Hi again Jenny and Liz - thank you both for the helpful websites, they both look great! It really helps having people to "talk" to that understand. I hope you both keep in touch and I will try not to bug you but would love to hear how you both are doing, since you are one week ahead of me. You must both be so excited, so soon for you! Jenny, I was reading your blog, you are going through some stuff right now, huh?? Hang in there, you sound like a strong woman. Did you find a better shake than Slim Fast yet? I am still reading up on them, haven't decided what to buy yet. My pre-op is strictly liquid.

Semi Low carb
DeletedMember replied to northstar9148's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't avoid carbs, I avoid highly processed or refined carbs (bread, Pasta, rice, sugar). But I eat plenty of fruit, Beans and lentils. I average about 80g-90g a day. Sometimes as high as 110g-115g. I have lost extremely fast, so I can't imagine the carbs slowed my weight loss at all. I've lost 162lbs in a little less than 8 months. -
I am 5 weeks post op and i just got my second fill. This seems a little fast to me, but my doc said get you butt isn here if you can eat more than a cup and can not go 4 hours between meals. Well, I have wanted to eat everything in site and everything goes down just fine. So now I am up to 4 cc's. Just wondering how many cc's everyone else has and when they started to really feel restriciton. I h ave a 10 cc band. Have a great Christmas everyone.

I am 4 months out and had my 2nd fill on 12/14 and i am at 4.5 cc's. That does seem fast I guess you have to trust your doc but I would be afriad of band erosion.

Kick starting my metabolism
funky_monkey800 replied to funky_monkey800's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you @julienorton & @horsegirl315....I believe the whole starvation mode thing may have been an issue...but good news! I have finally seen the scale start moving again. Not fast but moving. I do some lifting and cardiovascular and have recently incorporated "insanity" into my routine....which may possibly be the death of me! Started adding protein mix to more drinks and drinking more water....which is tough for me...anyways thank you for your help!! *as of today 168! Wooooohooo! Dang spell check on my phone..just cardio not cardiovascular...lol!! -
Yep. The fast weight loss we experience early out wreaks havoc with our hormones and it's just as likely to have an extra period as to have none. Just in case, there's no chance you could actually be pregnant is there? Enhanced fertility is another side effect of those hormones for some people.

Good to know! Hope you'll recover fast! Good luck

Last minute meal help
katesuccess replied to cchapman6's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I do chicken thighs (cut in thirds) in my crockpot - two packages at a time! I use whatever healthy sauce-like thing i'm hanking for at the time, and just be sure not to overcook them. Lately I've done them in a large pot in the over which is easier for me to monitor. Anyway, I then put them in 'snack baggies' in 2-2.5 ounce portions, spooning a bit of sauce over each after weighing. They all get labeled with a permanent marker and frozen. I take out whever I feel like for dinner each night - and they're fast and easy mini-frozen meals. Also meatballs (turkey or beef) are great for quick frozen meals. I can take a couple out and weigh them, deciding if it's a 2-ball dinner or three! Add a spoonful of FF gravy or marinara or slice with a bit of melted light cheese and warm up. Soooo easy! Sometimes I buy a big frozen bag of cooked chicken strips too, and pull a few out to weigh up to 2 ounces, and warm them in the microwave. Then I might add some guacamole, salsa, onions, tomatoes, satay sauce, whatever floats my boat that night. Experiment! Oh, and I did buy a packaged already cooked beef potroast the other day, figuring I'd cut it into several meals - Hormel I think. It was tough, fatty, and tasteless - I threw the rest of it out after one meal--so don't bother with that! -
The larget incison can hurt really bad - one of the stitches they put it was tacked a bit too high for me so once I ot up the weight pulled on it...ouch!!!! It fades! Set your phone or an alarm to go off in 20 min increments and drink a half ounce of Water each time. A goal like that helps. EDIT: IF you can drink that fast...dont push it. set the time/volume to your pace.

Hello - New here and looking for some HELP!
Mommy2Ps replied to dina1967's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You sound like I did back in the beginning. Hang in there, it does get better!!! You're in bandster hell! The limbo period of time when you're banded, but not at your sweet spot yet. Don't worry, you will get there! First off, you NEED to eat. Skipping meals and slacking on Protein will not help you lose weight. When you don't eat, your body is holding on to every ounce it can get and you go into starvation mode. By eating, you will increase your metabolism and make the food start working for you. Get some Protein shakes, Protein Bars, etc... they will help. If you're getting stuck on meat and vomiting, it could be one of three things, or a combo of all. 1) You're taking too big of bites and not chewing enough. or 2) you're eating too fast. or 3) you're band is too tight. I think you said you've only had one fill, so I doubt you're too tight. I'm willing to bet you're eating too fast and taking too big of bites. We're all guilty of it, and by vomiting, it's your band telling you you're doing something wrong. Throwing up is the last thing you want to do, as you could slip your band. Meaning, your stomach, while contracting to push food out, will come up through the band and that will cause the band to slip down. That is NO GOOD. Try cutting your food up in peices you would feed a toddler (or no bigger than the eraser on the tip of a pencil). Sure, it's a pain, but it will help. Great job at drinking the Water. Still practice small sips. Trust me, when you're tighter, big gulps will be a thing of the past unless you enjoy pain! Hmmmm, what else can I offer from my journey?!?! I don't claim to know all the answers, and Lord knows I've cussed this band on more than one occasion, but at the end of the day I'm almost 55lbs lighter and it's all because of the band and from what I've learned here and other blogs!! Good luck!!! You CAN do this and you WILL! -
Help!bad pain that went away after i puked
Diana_in_Philly replied to kmanddj's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You are eating too fast and not chewing enough. Slow down. Cut one tiny piece of food. Put it in your mouth. Chew 25-40 times. Put your fork down. Do not cut a second piece. Wait 40-60 seconds before taking your next bite. That's why you feel like you are going to puke. -
agree with carolinagirl, sometimes my first bite of a meal i eat it to fast and not chew enough and i get the same feeling as you are describing. i wait a few min's and try again with smaller bites or sips in your case and slow it down. you are still swollen from surgery. if slowing down doesn't help. some ppl like warm, not hot, warm drinks like tea. just sipping very slowly. also a ice pack may help. sit straight up and down don't slouch. and do a walk around your living room to help things move. it is rough at your specific time of recovery. hang in there.

Doing all right, thank you. I am still trying to regulate my gut... It is stubborn but unrelated to my surgery recovery, which is going swimmingly. I love my little hourglass... I never realized, before I started using it just how fast I used to gulp my food down. I still have to fight with myself to use my timer and slow down. It is going to take time for me to relearn how to pace myself. LOL Happily, that little tool is a big help to me. I kind of love it.

Delayed menstrual cycle?
ValerieDee1975 replied to KaiserKid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard good things about the mirena here. I think I'll give it a go. Thanks for sharing!! I am on my second Mirena and I do love it...no remembering, etc....it also mellows out the horrible symptoms I was having before.....super bleeding, premenopausal, etc..The worst part was the pain of insertion and removal...for me anyway, especially since never having kids (spreading of stuff down there)...but it was over pretty quick.....getting thick black stitches taken out of my hand was a close second in pain level.....even the surgery pain was much less....not trying to scare you, just info worth it though and it does go away fast....make sure to take ibuprofen/pain meds before and after -
2 weeks post op- eating little, hard to get protein
Meryline replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It is normal that you can't eat that much. I was allowed to eat up towards 5 oz in one meal, but I was nowhere near that for a long time. Also, eat slow. If you are not able to get the 2 oz in, then don't eat them. Chew everything well, take your time. If you eat fast you might really stuff your pouch. Your first priority should be protein and water. Not fiber, fruit and veggies. Those come later when you are able to eat more food. If you have met your protein for the day, and are still able to eat something, then you can have some fruit or veggies, but not really before that. Are strawberries allowed on your list? I wasn't until 6 weeks because it has seeds in it that can get stuck in your internal surgery wound. We all have different list though, so it might be. -
I know, usually they have 2 comments, one good one bad and all they did was post that one from a guy that was bigger people should eat less and excercise more, I was definetly annoyed as well when I saw that mainly because I'm not your average big person I mean sure I eat out every one in a while but overall I prefer vegetables and salads for dinner - I always have, I've just grown up eating veges so I'm used to it now - usually my plate at the dinner table is filled with vegetables like zucchini, broccolli, cauliflower, squash, beans, carrots so much that I can't even get meat on the plate and we use bread and butter plates - so basically a sandwich fits on there and thats it. Then there are others that do eat fast food all the time, I was definetly annoyed with the mailbag - maybe they'll rectify the situation eventually or at least post some more pros

Risks vs. Rewards
SKCUNNINGHAM replied to beachlover09's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ktkx - from one control freak to another - that was the hardest part of the whole surgical experience for me - being out of control for a while. And, I planned for the worst - had my living will done, had a detailed list for my husband where all the important papers were, all account passwords, safe deposit box keys, etc. I had all my bills paid, groceries bought and the house cleaned before the surgery. That aside - my surgery was a textbook case with no complications. I had surgery late one Tuesday morning, and left the hospital 24 hours later. My insurance would have paid another night, and the doctor wasn't pushing me out the door - but I didn't feel like I needed to stay at the hospital any longer and went home to sleep off the effects of the anasthesia. Since I arrived home - I have taken one pain pill in 5 months. Yes, there was discomfort as I was healing - but nothing a heating pad and wearing an abdominal support belt didn't take care of. I have had no problems with vomiting - only two times have a had a problem eating too fast/too much and tossed something back up. I had already had my gallbladder removed 20 years ago, so that wasn't an issue with me. I did have some acid issues, but take an acid pill morning and night, and a prilosec before I go to bed. No big deal. Was it worth the risk for me? Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! I don't regret my decision for one minute. If you want a description of potential side effects and risks - look for my previous responses to other posters - I did research and have some links. I think I will post it in my status so it will be easy to find. -
I have been drinking shakes everyday for about 2 weeks and today I have noticed being bloated. Is this common from the shakes? I dont use milk but buy the slim-fast or special K ones pre-made. I also have lost of gas regularly.

Those who took over two years to get sleeved
RJ'S/beginning replied to greensleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I waited 4 years for my sleeve...I just tried very hard to keep it from my mind until I got the call saying I was up next...Then things happened fast....they wanted to make sure I was done before 55..In Canada some surgeons won't do the sleeve after that..Instead they do the by-pass -
Skipping meal plan phases
iamOpalicious replied to Resha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I was sleeved the week before Christmas and my seven day or my beginning of the puréed phase I fast-forwarded a day or so and had some baked Beans mashed really well and some mashed potatoes as well. But other than that I stayed in each face that I was supposed to until it was over. But I do understand the cravings -
I am really phobic about vomiting. I get big meds with surgery to make sure it doesn’t happen after the op - and (touch wood) I haven’t vomited since. There had been gentle ‘regurgitation’ a couple of times when I ate too much or too fast - very non-violent, as you say. Get the best anti nausea drugs during surgery, and get off the heavy pain meds asap after, to reduce the throwing up chances... Best of luck...

Hair loss [emoji102]
OutsideMatchInside replied to bhackenberg1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you are going to lose hair because of surgery nothing is going to stop it. All you can do is promote fast regrowth with high protein and correct vitamins (D, Iron, Zinc) It grows back, it is temporary. It isn't as dramatic as people pretend it is.
