Calling all October sleevers!!
BuffaloBill replied to Detroit_25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definately hit the 3 weeks stall. Havent lost anything in about a week. I watched a very informative video on YouTube from a bariatric surgeon named Dr. V about working out Post-Op. Your/My body isnt taking in enough calories to make working out productive. Walking for 20-30 mins is ok cause that speeds up your heart and will burn fat but anything else will burn muscle cause the body will go into starvation mode and eat your muscle. Dr Duc C Vuong check out the video on Working out after Gastric Sleeve. Now this all depends on your caloric intake. Now that ive moved on too soft foods I can only take in 1200 calories at most a day. Thats all my sleeve will fit . -

Late June Sleeve Buddies?

@@Seastars You said "I just didn't think losing weight with the sleeve would be this hard. I read posts about the three-week stall, but that's AFTER someone loses, like, 30 pounds or so!" My 3 week stall was at 23 lbs, and I started with a BMI of 41 and no pre-op diet so no weight loss. My high weight was my day of surgery weight. I'm in my 5th week and still not at 30 lbs lost. And don't forget that men tend to lose faster than women, especially if they start at a much higher weight. Hang in there...I'm still eating 500-600 cals/day, I can't get to 800 and I think it may be inhibiting my weight loss. I'm walking, using the elliptical, doing some arm and leg weight work, etc...it'll come off. -
August post op sleevers: Check in
amazon replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
a little over a week. It's the evil dreaded 3 week stall Looking at my intake I think I need to increase it. I'm running between 450 - 650 a day. Most days I can get in close to my nut's goal of 80g of Protein (it was easier with shakes, lol). I graduated from full liquids last week to eating soft, moist protein (chicken, tuna, turkey) and it's been a challenge. Everything goes down ok, etc. I still try to get in one Protein shake to make my goal. I'm figuring out how to eat, not drink 30 min, then drink..then a snack? then not drink, then drink...eat. Sigh. It will get easier, I know. But I need the entire day to work this out. So trying to increase cals is a little difficult right now. weight gain after solid foods?
MegInNOLA replied to MrsPositive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Joan, I'm not sure about the Crohn's piece of the puzzle, but almost everyone experiences a stall or even a gain at around the 3-4 week mark. I know you're in week 6, but it might be the standard stall just delayed because you had to slow down the progression of your diet. I would say don't freak out--if you're keeping track of what you're eating and you're within the suggested counts, the scale will start moving again, I promise. I thought the same thing when I hit that first point where my body said "What's going on?" and weight loss stopped for 2 weeks, but it started again and has kept going. Hang in there--I think this is your 3-week stall, just on a Crohn's schedule. HUGS, though, cause seeing that scale move up is disheartening when you're doing everything right!! -
Easter Sunday - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

Well, I may have been a little ambitious in my goal setting. Nothing like setting a goal the week of the 3 week stall and a suprise TOM visitor. Well, a loss is still a loss and I will take it. -
Yes, I've hit the dreaded 3 week stall. Not only that but I'm miserable when I put anything in my mouth to eat. It all hurts so bad but I can tell I need to eat. Lost 20 lbs the first 2 weeks and ready to start losing again. I'm not sure anymore what I'm supposed to be eating or how much. I want to go back to the safety of the liquid stage!!! Everything else scares me. I find that I need to take zofran which I didn't start until about a week ago which helps when I do eat but I would love some help on food ideas. My doctor isn't worried about anything until I go in for my 5 week checkup and then that's when it gets serious. I think right now he just wants me to eat what I can and to heal. He's not concerned about protein or vitamins at this point and is okay if I don't lose another lb until I go in on 3/5. Anyone else going through the same thing and with a relaxed doctor the first month?

Nov Sleevers... What's Your Status?
katsmeow replied to Yasmine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I listened to what others did to get out of the stall. Eat more!!! It really works. I was in a 2-3 week stall. Starting eating more even added a few more carbs. I drink at least one protein drink a day. It will work for ya. I was sleeved nov. 14th. -
Sounds like the 3 week stall! I just came out of mine 2 weeks ago.. It will start moving again.. and 51 pounds is amazing!! Just keep going. I got frustrated and started thinking that I was failing.. but then once I increased my calories, per my NUT, it totally started going again. I hope you do too.. I'm just about 7 weeks out and I feel amazing.

Hang in there! This must be the dreaded first 3 week stall. Just keep plugging along and the scales will start moving again! You got this!

October 2014 sleevers check in please!
Buffer replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
October Sleevers, I need help!!!! I am not losing correctly. I am so frustrated and falling apart emotionally. I had surgery October 8th. I will be 6 weeks on Wednesday. I weighed 250 on the day of my surgery. Today I am 229 and I gained 2 pounds in the last 2 days. I have lost 21 pounds in 6 weeks and I had a 3 week stall. I lost 3 pounds after the stall. I could do better on Atkins on my own. I track every calorie down to the what I use to cook with, which at this point is not much. I have a hard time getting my shakes down let alone my Water. I am getting about 50 grams of Protein from shakes. I can't seem to eat any solid protein without a lot of pain. I can get at the most 32 oz of water a day. I am trying to force 500-650 calories a day. I walk every day. 10,000 steps and I work out 3 days a week in another type of exercise. I have tried to increase my calories by eating healthy fats like avocado and cheese. Nothing has changed. Any ideas? -

@@TheBombMom I'm eating cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, bell pepper and lettuce. But I've tried a little cabbage and carrot and my belly hinted it was not yet time. Celery has not been appealing yet. My surgeon said to hold off on the harder things until 6 weeks and then try them weekly. Last week I had seared tuna and could eat that no problem but then I had tuna poke and my belly suggested it was not fully ready. So we'll hold off on Sushi for a bit longer. Nothing huge or incredible happened - it was just a little gnawing that it was taking a bit more work than other things. I haven't been getting too excited because by the time I get my protein in my "belly budget" is near full and there's not a lot of room left for other things. Indian food was AWESOME - we did need to adjust the spice as I don't get rice or bread but my tummy was totally ready for the bit of increased spice. I was able to try a bit of everything and didn't feel cheated and I was able to eat on my left overs for 2 days. Fruit I've been eating. One of those big Honeycrisps is 4 servings for me and if I slice it thin I can eat the skin no problem. Haven't tried orange type fruit yet. Strawberries are a-ok and bananas (ok 1/2 a banana at a time) has been on the menu since mushies. I went for my 8 week on Tuesday and my surgeon said not to worry too much about the fruits and veggies right now as I'm on my supplements and my body can make the carbs and fats I need. That I just need to focus on getting in the protein and water as my body can't make that and would take what it needs from my muscle mass - and my muscles are what I'm not trying to loose! She said my 1000-to 1100 calories were good but not to go below 800 and if it varied in that range it was ok. My weightloss has been slower. There was a 3 week stall around week 3. But my surgeon said I was still on track and where I should be. I'm glad she gave me my little gold star because watching everyone else I was feeling a bit left behind. Even though I'm meeting things in my closet I haven't met in years. I'm sure I've said "How YOU doin?" in my best Joey voice at least 50 times when I discover an old favorite. OH and the super cool part - no more metformin and no more blood pressure medication! -
Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call
Jenn31MA replied to newgrandmother's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your in the 3 week stall. Mine lasted for 2.5 weeks and started 10 days after surgery. It kicked back into gear last week and I have only lost 15lbs since surgery. Don't compare yourself to other people as it all depends on what you started at etc. Also taking my measurements helped a lot because even though the scale wasn't moving (even went up 2lbs) i was losing inches. Hang in there. -
3rd week post op and only lost one lb...
thinoneday replied to 2bslimkim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup the 3 week stall is a real downer. . I remember getting rid of my scales and only weighing at the doctor appts. . . this was such a great thing for me. . . i was always so happy to get to the doctor appts and then the high it put me on for the rest of the day was always so great. . . now that i'm 15 months out and am done with the WLS doctor, I weigh myself and still only do that once a week. . . of course after losing 150 lbs it is alot slower (I MEAN A LOT SLOWER) but i reached the doctors weight loss goal and now am working on my own personal one. . . so I've got the rest of my life to do that. . . .it'll come off, slow is better then zippy fast too. . . good luck! and like they say, mix it up. . . one day add a bit more calories the next day lower it, stick in a exercise routine too -
I have answered questions about that dreaded 2-3 week stall for new post ops but now I am 9 months out and have not moved an ounce in 4 weeks. I know this is a stall and I know I have not lost all my weight, and I know that I am not eating enough to maintain this weight but of course my head wants to know HOW LONG??? For those of you past this point who have dealt with stalls like this, how long did yours last? These head games are the roughest part!!!

I third Creek and Matt's advice, increase your calories! You are already working out, which means you are burning on top of eating so little. I had the 3 week stall as well, and I didn't start losing again until I increased my calorie intake. When I started working out, I was taking in approx. 800-900 calories per day, and burning approx. 500. Now, I burn 600-700 per day and eat upwards of 1200 cal per day. I also have PCOS, but haven't had any problems with slow loss. I eat carbs as well. Obviously follow your program, but PCOS is not an automatic "death sentence" for losing.

Had surgery 3/12. Right under the radar of when cancellations started to happen. I had surgery at Blossom in Las Vegas and saw my local MD for follow up today. He removed my steri strips and pronounced me well healed. I ate my first real food in three weeks today and that was glorious. I’m looking forward to getting this show on the road weight loss wise. I’m down 17#’s since surgery. And starting into the 3 week stall that others have talked about. Hoping for a quick return to normal so everyone can move on with their surgery plans. -
What The Heck, Stupid Stall And Weight Gain. Grr.
Ms skinniness replied to TheGamer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The 3 week stall usually lasts about 3 weeks and this is a time that your body is adjusting in inches. Which is even better than lbs.... My weight loss has been up and down the whole time depending on how much water I retain. I'd rather retain water and not be dehydrated but found it very frustrating that my weight fluctuated constantly. Sit back and enjoy the ride......it will come off it just takes time...... -
@ - so sorry the talk didn't go as well as you might have hoped! give her time, hopefully she'll come around to it. and let her ask LOTS of questions and ask you to consider other options! i am currently facing down the dreaded 3 week stall! haven't lost any weight in 6 days. how long did it last for you all?
