I can’t find the right protein shake!!!
Prestonandme replied to VSG.girl19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was throwing up or getting very nauseous with almost every shake and powder I tried -- Premier, etc. Then for two months, I drank Isopure Apple Melon protein drink (40 g. of protein) and loved it. But it was too expensive to maintain -- $43 for 12 drinks. I've now switched to unflavored Genepro, at the recommendation of my nutritionist. I will be adding it to flavored water. -
I just reviewed this product, I will get this.

I like Genepro. Been using it for a long time as practically my sole protein source, mixes with everything. My labs came out great (i.e. Total serum, Albumin/Globulin) every time so I keep using it. In the past, I have written the company to ask for some data on a particular lot I bought but to no avail. As I said in a prior thread, maybe they just don't want to give out any hints of their purification process. I can understand that since their product is quite different than most protein sources out there. I use it when what I naturally eat that day doesn't hit my protein mark, it comes quite handy (soups, drinks, hot or cold). Nature's best Isopure (lots of other companies as well) was part of a class action suit for protein spiking and misrepresenting the concentration of their protein. Personally, I never tried the unflavored, so I wouldn't know about the miscibility aspect of it.

I had revision from band to sleeve on August 17. I have lost about 18 pounds which seems pretty good to me. I feel like I am learning to eat all over again. I seem to be doing pretty good with getting my protein in with the Genepro and I struggle a bit with the water. Last week I began to feel nausea and I realized I was eating too much. If I stick to 3 to 4 ounces I feel fine. My surgeon has advanced my diet as I can tolerate. I can eat salad or, anything really, just not much of it. My cravings are under control and I can have small amounts of sugar, like one Hershey kiss, and it does not seem to throw me into the trenches of hell of increasing my cravings for bad choices. I watch my macros which I have set for 20% carbs, 30% fat and 50% protein. For the most part I am hitting that or getting close enough. I am trying to establish life long eating habits without having foods that are completely removed from my diet. Eating out is hard because I tend to waste so much food. People say to save it and eat it later however I usually will never get to eating it because I just do not eat very much. I think I am going to have to eat 4 to 6 small meal/snacks a day to get my needs met. I am up to about 5 to 600 calories a day, but I know that is not sufficient, so I try to increase as I can. I know my body is in starvation mode because I have not moved on the scale for about 3 weeks. I am taking my Flintstone multi and a vitamin D daily and I also have some calcium chews. I do see a nutritionist but have not been able to get in since my surgery. Does this look like I am doing things correctly?

Hubby and I are getting sleeved next Tuesday! So far we are liking premier Protein, but I also wanted to get some unflavored protein to add to things like broth (I'm going to get sick of sweet real quick). Which ones do you suggest someone suggested GENEPRO to me. Thank you for your help!

Dizzy and nauseous day 7 post op
4Anna replied to baggyg0707's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have experienced a little dizziness too in the past week. I'm 11 days post-op. I try to start my day with Protein and it seems to help. I use GENEPRO which has 30 grams in 1 tablespoon and it doesn't mix clumpy. I take 8 oz skim milk (8 g protein) and mix at least 1/2 T (15 g protein) so that I'm getting 23 g right away. It doesn't have a taste, so you can mix it in applesauce, oatmeal, Soup, yogurt, etc. I got it on Amazon.com. My doctor also sent me home with some dissolvable pills for nausea, but thankfully that stopped in the hospital. I had it for 23 hours & it was horrible. I really hope you're feeling better soon! -

Genepro. Stay away
BigViffer replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aside from the fact that I thought they tasted awful, I mean gelatinous cough syrup/jolly rancher hybrid really really bad, their primary source of protein is collagen, then whey, and lastly casein. Collegen protein is technically a protein yes, but it isn't much more than a nitrogen donor. Casein is a decent protein though. Whey is still the reigning king for muscle mass retention and growth. Even with that low opinion of the protein shots, they are still better than genepro. As a list, I would go like this: Whey Casein Beef or Bone powder Soy Egg (the powder, not the real thing. Real eggs rock) Pea Collagen Toenails Dirt Velveeta Cheese or aerosol cheese spread Genepro -
The need to eat until stuffed
bleonhardt replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's almost ALL about self-control at where you and I are post-operatively! You're not meeting your protein goals, which is devastating to weight loss and feeling satiated by your food. I've not done the best job during the holidays, and I'm in a 3 week long stall right now. I know it's because I'm not keeping my carbs down and my protein up, and I'm not tracking every bite I put into my mouth. You should be losing more/more consistently than you are, maybe a re-start with Protein shakes and then advancing yourself through the different stages to reset your diet would be helpful. And you don't mention using any Protein powder...I still have to use it to get my protein grams high enough. On a normal day, I use GENEPRO unflavored in my morning coffee, so I start off with 20-30 grams of protein in a 12 ounce mug of coffee, with monkfruit sweetener and cream. Some days I have a container of plain yogurt with a little low-carb granola mid-morning, or cottage cheese with a tablespoon of pureed fruit stirred in. Lunch, I eat a cheese stick and a couple of slices of deli turkey. I have a handful of almonds or half an apple with Peanut Butter for an afternoon snack, then 3-4 ounces of my family's dinner protein and around 1/4 cup of vegetables. And I almost always have a sugar-free popsicle before dinner. That typical day gets me about 850 cals, 95 grams protein and 50 grams of carbs, with only 21 of them being sugars. I lose when I'm eating like that...80 lbs since the end of June. You've got the tool in place, you just need to commit to using it correctly, find ways to distract yourself when you're hungry (exercise, clean house, work, garden...whatever works) and get back on track. There's literally no reason for you to NOT be successful! Go get it, you CAN do this!! Does the genpro change the consistency of your coffee at all? I can not wait until I have a taste for coffee again lol but think that is a great idea to meet protein goals! Just can not do a consistency change as I won't enjoy it! The need to eat until stuffed
UNJURY replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi Mrs SugarBabe and ShelterDog64 I don't generally comment on competitive products but we believe that the GENEPRO marketing is potentially misleading. This is what was said on the message board used by bariatric dietitians back in the fall (things might have changed since then): one RD said: ----------------- "....I never heard of this product, but I am highly skeptical. When I first looked at their website I couldn't wrap my head around a 15g serving having 30g of Protein without defying the laws of physics. ..." and this is what one of the RDs here at UNJURY® Protein posted back then: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "...Using information available on the Musclegen Research website (shopmusclegen.com/protein?product_id=172), reviewed today, September 1, 2016, my calculations reveal that the nutrition label of this product may be misleading. One container of GenePro is 11.8 ounces, or 334 grams. There are 30 servings per container, and the label indicates that one serving provides 30 grams of protein. Therefore, 1 container should provide 900 grams of protein. You may check my calculations to ensure they are correct using the link provided. If your calculations are equivalent to mine, do you believe it’s possible for 334 grams of powder to contain 900 grams of protein?..." If you have more questions about this, you can call the UNJURY® Protein toll free number and ask for Jerome. I hope this is helpful. Jerome at UNJURY® Protein -
I tried the Genepro and as everyone said I cannot taste it which is great. The only issue is , that I use lukewarm water in a coffee mug about halfway and stir in the Genepro with a fork and it completly dissolves. Then I mix in more water and stir in Chicken bouillon powder and microwave it to heat everything up.. After a couple minutes sitting the protein powder starts to clump up a little.. Is this normal ? Thanks

I don't think that's the same thing. This was referred by my bariatric surgeon. It is called GenePro and is sold by GNC. Look at the GNC website. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using BariatricPal mobile app -

Where do you buy this? Have you tried GENEPRO? Gene pro is what I've been using. It says it is unflavored but it is FAR FROM IT!! Also, how big is the sccoop and how much protein does it offer Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I know every program is different but my dr warned me NOT to use GENEPRO, as he believed it doesn’t contain the protein it says and can lead to serious problems. Just an FYI. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Have you ladies heard of genepro protein?
-
SassyMedic GENEPRO isn't completely tasteless and there may be some clumping. I slowly mix it in and if there are clumps let them sit for a few minutes and then keep mixing until there aren't anymore visible clumps. Hope you're feeling great soon! I'm POD 4 and still sore, but I don't think I've taken it easy enough. I relaxed a lot today. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sleeved on 6/5/2020 - hospital return - no weight loss since
NerdySongBird replied to Fit&FineBy40's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For protein I use Genepro cuz its 30g of protein in 1 scoop. You can mix it into anything. Soups, oatmeal, coffee, water, etc. Pretty much anything. It has made it alot easier for me to get my protein requirements in because I am not a fan of sweets. I checked with my dietitian and she said it's good. WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
Tomo replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Genepro has been a lifesaver for me. I also have the Fruity Oh's flavor that I blend with my smoothies. Super light sweetness and blends well with almond milk unsweetened vanilla, fresh strawberries and bananas, -
Remember, fluids are the most important thing for us right now (I was sleeved 6/2), but there are good ways to get protein in without the shakes. Do you have any of the protein powders? I have two different powders: Isopure Zero Carb Vanilla - 25g protein per scoop, and GENEPRO tasteless powder, 30g protein per scoop. The Genepro is really spendy, so I use it sparingly - mostly using the Isopure. You can get them both through Amazon. Here are three of the things I've been eating: Super Milk Pudding: SF pudding (I like cheesecake flavor) make up with 2c skim milk and 2/3 c powdered skim milk. Makes 8 servings 1/4 c each. You can add a scoop of vanilla protein powder if you want to amp up the protein. Without the powder it's 3g of protein per 1/4 cup (which is a great amount, I've found). If I add the protein powder, it doubles the protein to 6g. Cream of Wheat or Cream of Rice: Cook cereal according to package directions. Dissolve 1 scoop protein powder in 1/4c milk. Stir into hot cereal. Mix in 1/8 t cinnamon and one MINI squeeze of Stevia (if that - I found it too sweet so next time I'm leaving out the Stevia altogether). This makes 2 servings 1/2 cup each. It slides right down and has 15g of protein in each of the 2 servings. Broth: Heat 1 c broth (homemade or canned low sodium) and mix in 1 scoop Genepro tasteless protein powder. 30g protein in the one cup. Anybody else have any good ideas / recipes for "full liquid" recipes???? I have 3 flavors of isopure. I also have muscle milk. I am on liquids only so no pudding or cream of wheat (thanks tho, they will come in handy next week). I have gotten in all my required protein and all my fluids by 6 PM. I was hoping that Protein Shakes would fill me up for an hour or so but my stomach seems to pass them on as if they are Water. May have to call dietician on Monday.
