Heartburn/indigestion~Dysmotility Of The Esophagus
yaya77nc posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I had the Barium Swallow done on Thurs & results came back as Dysmotility of the Esophagus(which means my esophagus has gotten lazy and is not pushing my food down fast enough so therefore it feels like something is stuck and I have really bad heartburn/indigestion), I have been referred to a GI doctor to see what needs to be done, good news is that the band is fine (no slippage), I was just curious if anybody else has experienced this before, thanks for reading. -
You will do great. The first few days are the hardest and after that recovery is very fast GOD BLESS and PRAYERS!!!

Your story was mine for the first 3 fills. After fill #4 my restriction came with a vengeance. AND it was only .5cc's more! Plus it took effect almost 3-4 weeks after he gave me the fill. So you should be paitient after a fill, because alot of the time there is a delayed response. That is why they schedule fills at least a month apart. I believe I am at my sweet spot now, however, with my hard head I still eat too fast and too much. Once I can regulate the small amount of food I really need, I will be fine. Good luck!!!

Hello everyone....My name is Tee and I go get my first fill on thursday(6-09-05). What should I expect? Will it hurt? What should I eat right after and for how long? I am really scared, only because the nurse told me that it will hurt just a little. Oh yeah......before I go one last question. How soon and how fast does the weight come off after you have your band filled?

Can you chew your food too much?
ffpandamer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep reading "Chew everything really well!" and things to that nature. Can you ever "overchew" your food to the point that it goes through the band too fast? Thanks!! -
It would be super helpful if the ones that DID NOT experience hair loss could provide some insight on why they think they dodged the bullet. Did you have any complications? Did you get the recommended Protein in daily? Did you lose weight fast, slow or gradually? Did you take any supplements? Did you do anything special? I'm sure this information would be appreciated by ALL!

Post Op Questions - War of the Stomach!
RavensAngel posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm nine days post op and on the smushed diet I've been eating cream Soups, broth, shakes, pudding, and the sorts. I tried some mashed potatoes today and I have tried soft eggs. Anything I eat and not drink starts my espohgus to moving and then my stomach and its like its not going anywhere but the moving is crazy busy. Then I have to pause a while I can't even finish my food and wait. Before long I start burping and then it seems to move just as fast but its not stuck. I am curious does this type of behaviors pass? I previous to operation had a severe issue where unlike the normal person I could feel my food being pushed and rushed through all the routes it goes through and a case of IBS. It was horrid then but at least the food went down. Now its sort of like my espohgus and stomach is fighting the food. War of the Stomach! It is kind of creepy. Does my stomach need to learn to eat again? What's the skinny? -
pre-op diet?
My Big Day 3/15/2011 replied to Just Jess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is as follows... Breakfast 8 oz skim milk, 1/2 scoop Protein powder, 4 oz fruit mid-morning premade Protein shake lunch 4 oz fruit, 6-8 oz plain yogurt afternoon 4 oz vegetable, 1 oz peanuts or1/2 cup hummus or Beans, or 2 tbsp Peanut Butter dinner 4 oz protein, 4 oz vegetable, 1/2 cup whole grains or 1/2 potato with 1 tbsp olive oil early evening 8 oz skim milk, 1/2 scoop Protein Powder, 4 oz fruit The above diet for two full weeks and then on the last day you can eat the breakfast, mid-morning shake, and lunch then switch to Clear liquids after that and take mag citrate at 5:00, then lots of Water before midnight and npo after that. Wondering how fast mag citrate works? Hmmm. -
Issues cooking for the family, am I the only one..?
adcovington87 replied to adcovington87's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My kids are too little to cook and if I see another fast food bag brought into my home I may have a freak out... So I have taken over my kitchen again... Thanks for the advice, I was feeling pretty bad about not following what I was told to do even over a couple bites of solids, physically and mentally... -
Same. No pain, nothing weird at all. I started very slow and finally worked my way up to a mild buzz. Probably 4-5 bourbons over four hours. I did not notice the predicted "holy crap, you get drunk so fast now!" effect.

In oct I had surgery everything was great. My husband was wonderful supportive etc. I started at 320 as I have been losing he has been going to fast food Pizza etc getting super jealous and over protective etc. Now that I'm 70 lbs from goal he isnt supportive at all. It's all lip service at this point. Has anyone else spouse just went off the deep end over this??????

This surgery is a 6-12 month head start. You will still have to work on your "whys" but this is the best chance I've ever been given to get myself on the right track. I still fail. I turned down lunch from a fast food place, but bought a lillipop on the way home today. Every day we have to make the right choice, the sleeve just makes it easier.

Horrible Heart Burn that only goes away when I throw up
MBird replied to Joannegonz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I’m sorry you’re in so much pain. There are a few reasons you’re getting ill. One is, yes, you are eating too fast and when eating too fast we don’t chew the food into a suitable mush. Also it’s chicken. I’m unsure what you eat but some soup can be acidic, and of all meat, chicken is the hardest to digest. I would wait a full month on chicken. Or purée- I have had this issue and learned to slow it down a lot. That helps because then I can feel restriction starting before it’s too late and before I’m pretty syed to throwing up. I wish you the very best and hope you feel better soon. -
My sleep patterns always get messed up after any surgery I have had. If you are anemic on top of having surgery going to your dr for some fast acting solution is what I would do. I would be scared too, just losing so may hours like that.

Calorie intake 2 weeks post-op
StLouisGal replied to LA Girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate about 500 to 700 a day for the first four weeks post-op. I'm six weeks out now and eating between 1000 and 1200. It sounds like you are right on track. Just keep up with the Protein. Once you start eating regular food the calories will add up fast. Good luck! -
And I'm alive to live to tell about it.as everyone knows I've had my highs and lows on what this entire experience has done to me and I was made a vowel to myself that I wouldn't make it more or less what what it was. To say the least I regret it. I am almost repulsed with stepping on a scale everyday. I look at a scale and want to run out of the house. Started the journey back on December 20,212 and thought it was the best decision I have ever made. Fast forward to 7 weeks post op and I've had 2 additional surgeries ave hospitalized for the last 10 days. Better days are ahead I can feel. I'm working with a world glass team and they know they're stuff. I'm eating drinking and having urinations and bowel movements. Had tomato bisque with cranberry juice and sorbet for dinner. It was yummy. Within about 10 minutes of that was off to restroom letting it all out. My stent is set to come out this upcoming Tuesday and I'm so glad for that! Hopefully this is the beginning of the new sleeve for me. Some stats; SW: 256 CW: 209 GE: 140 Almost out of the 200s. Would not have been able to do that in 7 weeks. Good bye 46 pounds!

Getting discouraged.....need some encouragement
sillykitty replied to Heather E's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You've lost 66 lbs since April, that is in no way slow. I'd suggest focusing on the positives, instead of some unrealistic expectation on how fast you would lose. When in your life have you been able to lose 66 lbs in 4 months? -
That was really fast, Congrats!!! Best of luck to you on your surgery date!!!!!

I went to the required seminar the first of April 2012, went to my first surgeons appointment was May 3rd and I had surgery June 22nd. So mine went FAST and could have gone faster had I wanted it to. After the seminar I hemed and hawed over meeting with the surgeon once I did, thing moved. Granted, I took the bull by the horns- I got all the orders from my surgeon and I faxed and called to set up everything and got it done by the end of May. I waited to have surgery until June 22 due to my work schedule.

I just got my 2nd fill and boy do I feel the restriction, had my first bought with "sliming" a lot the other day, never will eat too fast or too much again. It's disgusting and painful. I feel a slight full and tight feeling then now I know to STOP EATING IMMEDIATELY, before I get the pain and slime. This is the first real restriction I have felt sice the first few weeks after banding. I have another appointment December 11th....to check and see how it's going. Would love another fill before Christmas.

do you belong to a gym?? maybe use some different equipment for a few weeks...your body is probably used to your current workout...alot of gyms give 1 free personal training session...use that and figure out how to use the weight machines...you may need to shock your body into some strength training. if you work out at home then...do you switch up the workout you do on the treadmill?? try not walking at the same pace the whole time...do intervals walk as fast as you can for like 1 min and then slow down for 2. or have you started jogging?? if not start slow..30 seconds at a time and bulid up. do you have free weights?? if you google exercise with free weights it will give you all kinds of exercises to do.

Angie you will be fine...I don't feel any different...I can even still drink pretty fast (did by accident earlier). I am hungry right now...I really want to chew. Doing liquids now is harder than after surgery...then I had swelling galore...I don't feel swollen at all.

I wouldn't worry about what happened. I have had this problem a couple times when I forget I have a band and eat to fast or to large of a bite. I consider it a put myself in check moment. I find making myself burp helps to fix the problem quicker.
