My bypass surgery was 18 months ago. I have experienced 2 recent episodes where my stomach area is extremely painful. It lasts about 24 hours, with lingering pain/soreness for a few days. Anyone else have this? Cause? Treatment? Sent from my SM-G781U using BariatricPal mobile app

Struggling to Consume Calories/Protein
Loreli04 replied to See.Allie.Run's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at day 8 post op after having Gastric Bypass Surgery with Hernia Repair. I am also struggling to get what my doctor wants me to get down. She gave me a chart and every hour I am supposed to drink 4oz . That is not happening. I am lucky to get 2oz most of the time in per hour. Today was the first day that I was able to from 8a.m. to 12 p.m. get a full 9oz of the protein shake in. I can't wait to have Cottage cheese. Right now I can have broth, Creamed soup and Low fat yogurt (I like Two Good) I drink plain water and Gatorade Zero and Crystal Light. I pray this gets easier, I have had pain off and on and also severe gas at times and I do walk. Gasx has been helping with that also. -
Two days post op
catwoman7 replied to erikamurphy1214@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the VSG was once part 1 of the DS. The DS was often done in two surgeries in the past - they'd make a sleeved stomach first, then would go in a few months or a year later and bypass the small intestine. But enough people lost enough weight after surgery #1 that they started offering it as a standalone surgery - and the VSG was born. Long way of saying - doing something like this in two parts should still work fine. I know you're wanting a SADI instead of a traditional DS, but the same should apply. -
I had my gastric bypass on April 3rd at the VA in my hometown.

Post Gastric Bypass - Does My Unused Stomach Still Send Me Hungar Signals?
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to boofie3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had VSG, so my experience is very different. But I did find some helpful info. Sounds like the general consensus is that the bypassed portion of the stomach does continue to produce ghrelin (the "hunger" hormone), but that other changes, including an increase in leptin, may mitigate the "hunger" feeling. So you likely will not lose hunger, but it may change and/or be decreased. https://oldedelmarsurgical.com/blog/gastric-bypass-surgery-impacts-hunger-hormones/#:~:text=It turns out that gastric, reduced along with the stomach https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article/88/7/2999/2845142 https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article/88/7/2999/2845142?login=false#:~:text=The authors examined 66 morbidly,% and 61.8%%2C respectively. -
Anyone have plastics in Dallas-Fort Worth area
ksgypsy replied to KarenLR75's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I Highly recommend Dr. John LoMonaco in Houston. An amazing Surgeon and even better human. He specializes in Bariatric patients. I had a body lift, arm lift and breast revision. Relatively little pain. He is meticulous about infection prevention and my scars are very thin & flat. -
@IrinaG59 that's AWESOME! Congratulations...what did you have? Sleeve or Bypass?

Hey ya'll...been a minute!!!
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much, everyone!! I'm just keeping my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed that I can get to the end of all this, get my revision, and go about living my life again. Every time I come out of a surgery, the surgeon tells me he found more stuff to remove. Last time I told him "No more looking around in there. Just get in, remove what's there, and get out" He laughed. I was serious. As expected, my weight loss has kind of stopped due to the weird dietary issues and not being able to do the kind of work outs my body is used to. But I'm not gaining, so I'm ok with it. I know in my heart that I'll lose the rest of my weight after my revision. Can't wait to finally feel better and get back to normal. And still, even with all this, I don't regret my sleeve. I hate that I had complications, but I know I never would have gotten to where I am now weight and health wise if I hadn't had the surgery. -
Pancreatitis :(
GMaJen replied to SymphonyOfDreams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just surfed Google for a few minutes and it seems that Pancreatitis after gastric surgery is not common, but one study said 1% after 3.5 years, and more common after sleeve than bypass. One site mentioned caused by blood clots, bowl obstruction, and gall stones. I know it isn't uncommon for people to have issues with their gall bladder after the surgery. -
Any April Surgery Dates?
BabySpoons replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My gastric bypass was performed on Tues. April 4th. The procedure lasted 4 hrs since the doc was repairing a hiatal hernia at the same time. I was 2 hrs. in recovery so my fam was starting to get worried by 6PM despite the hourly updates. No complications. Pain was minimal. No nausea, vomiting or gas pain. Dry mouth from hell. Sipped water day 1. Walked a lap and up another time to use bathroom. Surprised they didn't walk me more. b4 going home. Day 2 . Tolerated meals well. Tried a little of everything they brought me. Discharged me that afternoon. Felt more pain at home. Mostly pulling on incisions as I bent over, stood or tried turning over in bed. Sipping on prescribed Hydrocod helps for pain. Walking on my treadmill every couple hrs for 5 minutes to prevent clots. Drinking my protein drinks and water for now till appetite returns. Not weighing till after inflammation goes down. Overall...so far so good. Pain lessens each day. Praying for a speedy recovery for all of you this month!!! -
Am I recovering TOO fast?
Arabesque replied to JustJovi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone recovers differently & can or can’t tolerate different things at different times. Not everyone experiences temporary changes in their senses taste &/or smell. Some can drink cold drinks easily while others find warm or hot drinks easier & more soothing. Some people are advised (by their surgeon) to progress through the stages more quickly while others need to stay at a stage longer. You won’t really feel your restriction (a tightness across your chest) until you’re eating more solid foods & the nerves that were cut during the surgery are healed. The pain you initially felt would have been from stressing, straining or irritating your healing tummy. You shouldn’t use your restriction or discomfort as a signal you’ve eaten or drunk too much or too fast. Not everyone dumps. Less than 30% with sleeve & less than 40% with bypass. But it is easily managed by avoiding those foods that cause it (fats &/or sugars) which you should be doing while you’re losing weight. In time even those who do dump may find they can eat a small amount of these foods without issue. It is important to follow your plan. Remember all because you can doesn’t mean you should. The plan is in place for a reason. Initially to protect & support your healing tummy (think of all those sutures & staples holding your tummy together) & then to support your weight loss (awareness of portion sizes, calories, nutrition, food choices, reflect on old eating habits & establish new habits, etc.) Conversations with your surgeon & dietician would be of benefit to ensure you are making the best choices - behaviours & foods. If your surgeon feels you are healed enough to progress more quickly, they’ll let you know what you are able to do & eat now. I am worried you chose to eat cake at 4 weeks post surgery. It was your choice but was it a self sabotaging behaviour? Cake at week 4? What will you eat in subsequent weeks? Only you know the answer to this. Maybe a conversation with a therapist will help. And yes you will lose weight while your calorie intake is in deficit even eating cake but your focus should be on the nutritional value of what you are eating when your intake is low. Protein, protein, protein then vegetables & eventually some fruit & complex multi/whole grain carbs. -
Sleeve revision to MGB
Spinoza replied to newlifecoming's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I wish you all the best with your revision. If I ever had to do it I think I would go for MGB or duodenal switch. I'm sorry I don't have any wisdom to share re your future course but if you had time please could you share your regain experience? I think it's what we all dread - the slow creep and next thing we're back where we started. Anything you did/took for granted that you wish you hadn't?? -
Hi- I had a gastric sleeve in 2014 and lost 80 lbs. I have since gained back 90lbs. I’m scheduled for a revision to MGB on April 20th. I’m seeing from posts here that weight loss is minimal or at least slower with that. Just wondering how much you’ve lost, the timing of it and if you had any complications. Any feedback at all I would appreciate it. I’m getting a little nervous about it as it gets closer and just want to make sure it’s worth. Thanks

Had the Endoscopy done and everything checks out good. I still want bypass instead of sleeve. We talked very loosely about dates and its a tentative May 17th which is 1 week before when I wanted but it'll still be good. The sooner the better I guess. -
Hey ya'll...been a minute!!!
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Things have been super annoying lately. I had surgeries for all the polyps in my stomach in Jan, Feb, and March. Thought I was done, then the doctor looked down through my duodenum and found nodules all through it, so now I have a surgery on the 14th of this month to remove them. Hopefully he can get them all, if not, then I'll have 1 last one in May. THEN I will be cleared for revision surgery in either June or July. On the plus side, my A1c is now 5.3, which takes me out of even being pre-diabetes and is now officially normal. My blood pressure stays around 110/70ish. I'm in size 18 clothes now (from size 28), size 7 ring (from size 10), have a lot of annoying loose skin (the only real skin that bothers me is the loose skin on my neck/chin). I'm back to being able to do my normal work outs again. All in all, I'm doing well. Just want these surgeries to be finished so I can have the revision, recover, and get back to living my life normally. There will be new adjustments with the bypass (my main fears are strictures and malabsorption) but I'll get the hang of it like I did with the sleeve. Just ready for everything to finally be finished. -
The first month I lost 30 pounds. Then I hit a stall. Now at 11 months out, I lose around 8-10 pounds per month. But I have more shape and definition in my body, a lot of excess skin, I'm way healthier and stronger, and as long as I don't gain, I'm happy. I've had some complications and I need to have a revision to the bypass, so I assume I'll lose the rest of my weight then. I just do what I can now. But it's normal to hit stalls and slow down losing weight.

Meal delivery service?
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Jillian K8's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
1 Factor meal usually feeds me for lunch and dinner. So a 1 week box really goes far. I work full time, I'm in college full time, and I have a lot of medical crap going on due to complications from my sleeve. In and out of surgeries before I can be cleared for my revision. So for me and what I have going on right now, the Factor 75 meals are perfect. -

Happy with two replied to ceri84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hiya Jenn, I had my bypass on March 10th. today was a good day food wise no pain, (to be fair I'm going well) but at times if I eat too fast or drink too fast oh boy does it hurt. right in themiddle of the chest. and yes the saliva. All normal apparently and will subside in time. I'm just impatient and want it all right now. Hate taking my medication as its a few big tablets............yukkkk Best of luck. -
Worried I won't lose enough
Recidivist replied to Nyxienoodles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Big Sue took the words out of my mouth. In general, I don't think the amount of weight you will lose is a major factor in determining which surgery to have. For me, it was gastric bypass because of GERD, which was already an issue for me before surgery. The bottom line is that you are going to lose a significant amount of weight with the sleeve, which will vastly improve your health and your quality of life. At this point, that's what you should focus on and not the fact that you "might" have lost more weight with a different surgery. People have very successful long-term outcomes with both sleeve and bypass.
