I am having trouble getting to my Protein quota set by my doctor; at least 75-85 grams per day. I have been mixing Protein powder with Protein drinks just to get more in the mornings...but, boy oh boy, the calories add up. My morning routine comes to about 516 calories. That's one serving of Chobani yogurt with 1 packet of unflavored protein power and one Lean Body Protein shake with one packet of unflavored protein powder. Those three items add up to more than half of the 800 calories I've been trying to stick to as advised for these first few months. I also take a handful of Vitamins which must be worth at least 5-10 calories each. Wondering if anyone knows anything about GENEPRO Genetic Tri-Protein Peptide. It says it contains 30 grams of protein (instanized peptide whey, hydrolyzed whey, and genetic hexapeptide protein. Is this the kind of protein I want and need? One thing nice is that the serving size (one scoop) is much smaller than the packets like unjury or Jarrrow Formulas, which I have been using. Plus it's only got 15mg of sodium. But is it the "right kind" of protein???? Thanks to anyone who can whey in on this topic

Sept. 8th & 9th Gastric Bypass surgery.
msspiceybaby replied to angelicHG7's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
AngelicHG7 I'll have to let you know I'm at my house until Tues. (I take care of my mom with my daughter. She in respice). Most of my product is at my mom's house, because that's where we are at most of the time. When I was drinking it was when I was during my 6 mons. Is the name of the protein you ordered on Amazon called GENEPRO. I understand you can even sprinkle it on your food.I bought some ready made. I don't see the doctor until the 29th. To get all final details -
I'm not a argumentive person and don't claim to know everything, I have drinked Protein drinks for years, but after surgery I got where i could not gag another Protein shake down.....could not stand the after taste of Isopure and I tried a closet full of others. GENEPRO has been the best for me. I love it,....no after taste and I am able to get all of my protein in for the day. What works for me may not work for someone else. I was just trying to give a helpful hint to someone else going through this journey....which we are all here to help each other. I wish you the best.

Ya know that term "apples to apples" ?? Well, that's how various companies out there get away with claims that just don't stand up to actual comparison. They make claims that are not actual side by side (apples to apples) comparisons. They claim how their products work differently and are therefore better and more effective with greater claims that aren't substantiated with actual independent data or research or any universally accepted labeling. Prime example as we all know......"diet pills" (not a single one actually works as claimed) I am always skeptical about any product's claims when there is considerable double talk about how differently their product is or works and yet they don't include actual side by side labeling or independent research to compare with other products. And while I certainly appreciate the individual reviews made by users of a product, I typically do not rely on those reviews as to whether a product is actually effective. At least not where the product's results are based in science and I have no idea of the reviewers credentials. Keep in mind people, we live in a society where the proverbial "disclaimer" is used in practically all aspects of our lives. It is meant to mislead. ie: "Information was obtained that suggests the person in custody actually committed the crime"........ (what information, from whom??? Suggests - not actual facts!! ) They don't have any actual facts, but it doesn't keep them from making unsubstantiated claims just to appear more knowledgeable. Here is a reply from another WLS site that throws out some valid points to consider....... "You cannot get 30 grams of Protein in a 15 gram serving. Not in our current universe. What they have done is process the crap out of whey protein, similar to how other failed companies have done in the past. The other companies failed because their claims were also bogus. They all revolve around a molecule they call a hexapeptide. The company throws around a lot of doubletalk, but you will not see a nutrition label the way you will on a reputable product. They have an asterisk next to the 30 gram figure that says "equivalent." That's because their 15 gram scoop only has 10 grams of whey protein. They claim it is "equivalent" to 30 grams of protein because their GENEPRO is absorbed three times better than "normal" whey protein. They have only their own marketing hype to make this claim. One of the things people seem to love about this product is that it dissolves so well compared to other whey powders. Well, duh. You are only dissolving 10 grams of whey, not 30, so of course it dissolves better. Take one third of your usual powder and see how well it dissolves. It will look like magic too.The other big problem with Genepro is that they claim to be absorbed in the upper part of the digestive tract. If you had RNY or DS this wouldn't do you any good.Unfortunately, people using this are thinking they are getting 30 grams of protein, when in reality they are getting only 10. That means the cost per gram is three times higher than you thought. Oh, and it could leave you malnourished to boot. As obese and formerly obese people, many of us have been victimized by fake science, false promises, and diets, gadgets and gizmos that don't work. There is no super food that will make us lose weight, and no super supplement that provides three times the nutrition that it possibly can." So.......does it work or not.....that is the question. I don't know. I'm just playing the devil's advocate here. Good luck

Help, please! Premier Protein shakes taste awful to me.. Need recommendations!
jess9395 replied to blissfulbeing's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Please read the Genepro thread on here. It doesn't have 30 g of protein per scoop, it actually has 10g. They claim its 3x more bio available so it's EQUIVALENT to 30g of another brand, but the science is questionable or at least unverified by independent research. Just FYI. I can't do premier either before or after surgery. Tastes plastic to me. I use Syntrax and BSN powders and the occasional premade Atkins or GNC Lean. -
The need to eat until stuffed
bleonhardt replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's almost ALL about self-control at where you and I are post-operatively! You're not meeting your protein goals, which is devastating to weight loss and feeling satiated by your food. I've not done the best job during the holidays, and I'm in a 3 week long stall right now. I know it's because I'm not keeping my carbs down and my protein up, and I'm not tracking every bite I put into my mouth. You should be losing more/more consistently than you are, maybe a re-start with Protein shakes and then advancing yourself through the different stages to reset your diet would be helpful. And you don't mention using any Protein powder...I still have to use it to get my protein grams high enough. On a normal day, I use GENEPRO unflavored in my morning coffee, so I start off with 20-30 grams of protein in a 12 ounce mug of coffee, with monkfruit sweetener and cream. Some days I have a container of plain yogurt with a little low-carb granola mid-morning, or cottage cheese with a tablespoon of pureed fruit stirred in. Lunch, I eat a cheese stick and a couple of slices of deli turkey. I have a handful of almonds or half an apple with Peanut Butter for an afternoon snack, then 3-4 ounces of my family's dinner protein and around 1/4 cup of vegetables. And I almost always have a sugar-free popsicle before dinner. That typical day gets me about 850 cals, 95 grams protein and 50 grams of carbs, with only 21 of them being sugars. I lose when I'm eating like that...80 lbs since the end of June. You've got the tool in place, you just need to commit to using it correctly, find ways to distract yourself when you're hungry (exercise, clean house, work, garden...whatever works) and get back on track. There's literally no reason for you to NOT be successful! Go get it, you CAN do this!! Does the genpro change the consistency of your coffee at all? I can not wait until I have a taste for coffee again lol but think that is a great idea to meet protein goals! Just can not do a consistency change as I won't enjoy it! Hey guys i'm new here and scheduled for surgery on 10/07/14! any buddies?
msspiceybaby replied to Bronxmerci's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Bronxmerci Sorry It took me so long to reply but I am in the hospital just got my computer and it want to act out. But GENEPRO is the best. It's unflavored, you can use it in hot foods and drinks. I've personally used it in HOT tea an HOT chicken broth. You Can not taste it. I ordered mine from Amazon. I had tea with Genepro (30 grams protein) in the morning and a Premier shake at lunch (30 grams of protein) for lunch. That gives you 60 grams and you still have the rest of the day If you wanted to do a little more. -

Thank you for your reply, my pea Protein tasted horrible so I returned it, I bought the GENEPRO, hopefully it comes when I leave the hospital. I am now getting ready for my surgery. I was called last night 3 times and my surgery was changed from 10am to 12pm to 9am, I have to be at the hospital at 7am, and it is now 4am. I am feeling very ready and nervous, I left packing for the last minute and I also haven't slept. I figured i'll get enough sleep later. Good luck to everyone having surgery today, I will update later on how it went. Here is my preop photo 10/07/14 -

@msspicybaby does genepro taste good? I was reading up on it and heard its a tiny scoop that dossolves into anything and that sounds amazing at 30 grams per serving. Where do you buy it? I bought pea protein and I'm hoping it doesn't taste too horrible, I really want it to be unflavored. -

For protein I use Genepro cuz its 30g of protein in 1 scoop. You can mix it into anything. Soups, oatmeal, coffee, water, etc. Pretty much anything. It has made it alot easier for me to get my protein requirements in because I am not a fan of sweets. I checked with my dietitian and she said it's good. Stop when full, or push on to get required protein in - confused
ShelterDog64 replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
GENEPRO and unjury unflavored I have found that both of these are good as far as not changing the flavor, but they do change the texture for me which is unpalatable to me. Not disagreeing, but just to contrast...I can't detect any texture change with genpro, but Unjury tastes AND feels weird to me. If you can get a sample or borrow a scoop from someone in your support group, do that. Everyone's taste/sensitivity is different. -

I bought GENEPRO on Amazon, Because of some threads on BP. Everyone was raving about it! I was using unflavored Bariatric Advantage and believe me, you could taste it and had to use 2 large scoopes!!! The Genepro is great, only a tiny amount packs a lot of protein and you can't taste it. I've use it in so many things now, it's a great find! The need to eat until stuffed
UNJURY replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi Mrs SugarBabe and ShelterDog64 I don't generally comment on competitive products but we believe that the GENEPRO marketing is potentially misleading. This is what was said on the message board used by bariatric dietitians back in the fall (things might have changed since then): one RD said: ----------------- "....I never heard of this product, but I am highly skeptical. When I first looked at their website I couldn't wrap my head around a 15g serving having 30g of Protein without defying the laws of physics. ..." and this is what one of the RDs here at UNJURY® Protein posted back then: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "...Using information available on the Musclegen Research website (shopmusclegen.com/protein?product_id=172), reviewed today, September 1, 2016, my calculations reveal that the nutrition label of this product may be misleading. One container of GenePro is 11.8 ounces, or 334 grams. There are 30 servings per container, and the label indicates that one serving provides 30 grams of protein. Therefore, 1 container should provide 900 grams of protein. You may check my calculations to ensure they are correct using the link provided. If your calculations are equivalent to mine, do you believe it’s possible for 334 grams of powder to contain 900 grams of protein?..." If you have more questions about this, you can call the UNJURY® Protein toll free number and ask for Jerome. I hope this is helpful. Jerome at UNJURY® Protein -
Question for people who use Genepro protein powder
CheleLynn45 replied to Amyly2n's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I received my two samples and mixed one pouch into my unsweetened decaf iced tea and with every sip I tried to see if there was a difference but really could not tell. My surgery is October 27th and any Protein with any kind of artificial sweeteners in it upsets my tummy and gives me a headache. I have never been able to drink anything with artificial sugars in them. My husband and daughter LOVE all those flavored Water drops and I cannot stomach them. I had no reaction after drinking my tea with the GENEPRO in it. Whew!! I am hoping this will help me out once I am past my liquid phase of my post op diet. I am going to choke down the premiere protein RTD this week before surgery for my pre op diet, but probably won't use them afterwards. -

I couldn't find the one from years back but this one is pretty good info about genepro. -
Since being sleeved 5 days ago, I have been having a hard time getting my protein. It is all too sweet. Upon the recommendation of this forum and checking with my nut, I ordered genepro. I tried it for the first time tonight and it's amazing. You can't even taste it. I just mix it in my crystal lite and drink away! I'm so happy.

I am also in love with GENEPRO -- I've been using it about a month and a half. Word of warning or bit of wisdom or how ever you want to say it... if you keep your drink with you on the go all day long as i do, do NOT forget it in a hot car or leave it sitting in the hot sun. The Protein powder is beloved by all, apparently, including miniscule flora in your drink. If it smells funky, it is - little algae blooms are beginning to appear and before long you will see the blooms coming out of various bits of Protein Powder stuck to the wall of your drinking cup. This will not keep me away from my genepro... just will make me do a better job of marking where my drink gets left and how much time is going by between "sips" from my shaker-bottle drink which i carry everywhere. Sniff first!

Clear liquids high in protein?
nonsenseprecious replied to walkinginfaith72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amazon sells an unflavored protein powder called Genepro (made by Musclegen). It's expensive, but the serving size is only a tablespoon (30 grams of protein), and you can mix it in pretty much anything. I have it in tea and Crystal Light, and now that I've started purees, I've also mixed it in with Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. It doesn't clump at all, and you can't even taste it. Good luck! -
any November 2017 sleevers?
trailtramper replied to Sugar42's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can’t do the shakes at all. It isn’t just the taste, but they make me queazy. My doctor approve for me to do these instead - see GenePro flavorless protein and Bariatric Choice Liquid protein (I like the berry flavor). Amazon delivers them fast if you are a prime member Or you can pay a little extra for delivery. -
Why are all "diet" supplements marketed like candy?
Bufflehead replied to Didjit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
@@ShelterDog64 I've got absolutely nothing against people using Genepro when it works for them. To be honest, I think that many people tend to over-consume protein post-op, so if Genepro is less protein than it says it is, maybe that is a good thing! Even if it was tested and turned out to be like those herbal supplements that claimed to be ginseng and were actually just ground up houseplants, if people are using it, they are losing weight, and their bloodwork is good, I see no harm in it at all.
