What are your favorite full liquid and pureed stage recipes?
chiquitatummy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 10-days post-op and very happy to say that things have been going well. I've had no trouble getting liquids in and so far (cross fingers) my new little tummy is doing well with almost everything I've given her. I am on full liquids and will be for three more weeks. For my meals so far I've had Fairlife shakes, a couple of the bariatric pal soup mixes, yogurt with peanut butter protein and SF caramel syrup added (it was so good!), and Pero fake coffee with genepro in it. It would be nice to add a little variety over the next three weeks. Does anyone have a favorite full liquids recipe to share? I'll take favorite pureed recipes too since I'll be on that stage for another 3-4 weeks after graduating from full liquids. Thanks in advance! -
3 days post-op & hungry
XtinaDoesIt replied to JennaP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Jenna, I also had/been having a pretty easy recovery. I had my surgery on Feb 8. Sometimes, I do feel hungry though. I can tell when it's just head hunger when I'm am hungry for something specific. Like when I am craving something salty or one of my old snacks. But if I feel I should eat something and go for yogurt or something I think that's hunger.. maybe. Lol. Im also just figuring it out. My body hasn't been super consistent with food right now. Some days I feel hungry, some days I can't get down more than a few bites of protein. It's still pretty early for me... I decided not to freak out about anything... until I'm 3 months out. -
February 2021 bypassers?
betterme2021 replied to TreeTrunks's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everybody when I was in the full liquid stage I was drinking Boost High Protein (I like to mix half chocolate and half strawberry) and Boost also make a Mobility shake which I think probably helped with my knee pain. Aren't you allowed yogurt and V8 juice at this stage? If you are try mixing 2oz beef broth and 2oz of V8 and warm it up a little in the microwave it tastes like tomato soup! I started the puree stage today and let me tell you it's worth the wait! I had a scrambled egg this morning and I felt like I was robbing a bank! An egg, who would have thought? It felt so good to chew something other than a vitamin. So hang in there you guys are right around the corner from hitting a good spot!!! -
I wish but I can’t stand yogurt

Scared and Nervous
NovaLuna replied to Delta Lisa's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If it helps... you learn to eat different. Do I still crave foods that are bad for me? Yes. But it's easy to say no, at least for me. I also crave a lot of healthier foods. Fruit, veggies, yogurt, nuts, etc. My biggest advice to you, since you're having the DS (I had the Loop DS, myself), is to keep on top of your vitamins, your protein, and your fluid intake. Getting your fluid in will probably be a struggle for the first few months (it was for me) but it'll get better. But the vitamins are very important, so put a reminder on your phone if you have to. I have a set schedule for taking them and my vitamin levels are 100% normal (I'm 13 months post op), but the first 9 months were learning what worked and what didn't in my vitamin regiment. I dealt with a vitamin A deficiency and a potassium deficiency. Too much iron and too much calcium. So it was a bit of a learning experience. If it helps at all, I'm grateful every single day that I made this choice and am happy with the surgery I chose. If I had to do it all over again, I would. -
I called the dietician line at my surgeon's office and they told me that I can have fish, eggs, yogurt, and chopped chicken from a chicken salad kit. I told her I was on pureed still, but she claims that it counts. Weird. Eating an Egg Beater's egg right now. Time to see if I keep it or loose it.

February 2021 Sleeve Surgery
NaturalMom replied to LifelongJourney's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Had my surgery on the 23rd. Everything went well. First 24 hours were a bit rough, but now I'm doing okay. Walking 2-3km everyday since Thursday, getting most of my water and protein in. Still sleeping in a recliner, but hoping in the next couple days to move back to my bed. On strained thin liquid diet for 10 days, then smoothie consistency liquids for 10 more days, then purees for the next 10. Hate every protein shake I've tried, so I've been putting unflavored protein in my soups, broths, yogurts and that's been okay. Think I really hit ketosis today because my breath is awful and the taste in my mouth is so, so bad even right after brushing my teeth. Oh, weighed myself this morning for the first time and I'm down 13.8lbs from surgery--YAY! -
@Kukubari: Ugh. I hear you. On the first day of puree stage I blended up a bit of beef, took one look at it (plus a sniff), gagged, and went straight back to full liquids, for another 2 weeks lol. I did eat cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs made with lots of milk so they are really runny, with a tsp of paté on top...which may take care of your meat want?
-
I start pureed foods tomorrow and the idea of pureeing meats into the consistency of applesauce makes me want to vomit. I'm autistic and I cannot handle certain textures. I know that yogurt and other dairy products will be fine for me, but I so badly miss meat yet the idea of meatsauce is nasty. How to you all recommend I get around this? Also, I love eggs, so any eggvice on the subject will be appreciated.

I've got my protein in liquid and powder form, sugar free jello & popsicles, broth, gatorade G2. Just got my sweet some sweet potatoes cooked for when I move to pureed food, can soups, tuna, egg and yogurt. I can't do dairy so having to make sure I have my plant based options ready to go. Mine surgery is Wednesday.

Have you tried protein yogurt theres some that have 20grams of protein in them thats how i survived after my surgery. I couldnt drink protein drinks i wanted to puke with the site of them. For my smoothie recommendations check out pinterest theres tons of healthy smoothie protein shakes u can make, coffee, fruit u name it. Good luck

I used to throw a couple scoops of vanilla protein powder in it when I was cooking it (this wasn't a single serving - more like three or four (it's been forever since I've made it, so I can't remember)). Loved it. I'd often top about 1/2 C of it with some Light & Fit yogurt. This conversation has got me thinking about it again..

Food Before and After Photos
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Food photo dump ! Speaking of dumping, anything too rich and/or sweet will cause it for me (this means decadent meat and pastry are equally problematic, 😒) All photos are “afters” Fatteh - roasted lamb and spiced eggplant with nuts in garlic yogurt (SO amazing) Classic cheeseburger from a Guy Fiore burger joint (good but too rare for me) Waffle with hazelnuts, Nutella ice cream& white chocolate sauce Lemon tart - very very good but too sweet for me Mango - I realize that I barely eat fruit anymore -
The protein cereal doesn't sound so good. I guess it will be oatmeal as usual. After surgery I don't like eggs too much. I have cooked them thinking I will eat them, and end up throwing them away. I am not, or ever been much of a yogurt eater. I am lactose intolerant, and have tried those, but I don't like it. I did end up buying the caramel flavored Fairlife Protein Shake (someone on here told me about it), and I do like that one. I have not tried the chocolate yet. Funny how our taste changes after surgery.
-
I haven't eaten a bowl of cereal as a meal since I had surgery since my protein requirements are so high (higher than most because I malabsorb it), but I do occasionally sprinkle 1/4 C or so of Trader Joe's High Fiber cereal or Kashi's Go Lean granola on my yogurt sometimes.
-
I've never been much of a cereal eater, even before surgery. If I want breakfast food, I'll usually have something like eggs (or egg bites) and chicken sausage, or Greek yogurt, or a protein bar. Occasionally protein oatmeal. There are some low-carb/keto cereals on the market with mixed reviews, so you could try those. They can be pretty expensive, though. Somebody in a keto forum recommended a brand called Wonderworks that's available at Target and Walmart.

I have trouble getting in my 70-80 grams of protein per day if I don’t start off with a protein heavy breakfast. Cereal won’t do it for me. Most days breakfast for me is a premier protein shake mixed with cold brew coffee. Occasionally I have Greek yogurt or eggs & bacon.

I’ve experienced a few times where I need to rush to the bathroom after eating. It was very obvious last night it was due to eating a small amount of nonfat (but w/sugar) frozen yogurt. I guess I thought dumping syndrome was super painful? My experience is not painful but it does involve the need to immediately go to the bathroom. Is that one type of dumping syndrome?

Really Struggling - advice needed
Moon2408 replied to jackie1533's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'll be six weeks out next Monday. The first few weeks do suck. I never got even close to my daily protein and fluids for several weeks. I tried so many different things and just felt like nothing tasted good!! One way that I get about half of my daily protein is to make a smoothie for breakfast. I mix 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries, a scoop of unflavored protein powder (I like the genepro), a couple of dollops of strawberry cheesecake greek yogurt, 2/3 cup of the fairlife milk and a little zero calorie sweetener. I have a Ninja blender and that really works great! f you can tolerate a smoothie at this point that might help with the protein and also add to your daily fluids! I also added the unflavored protein powder to things like broth, cream of chicken broth, no sugar added hot chocolate, sugar free chocolate pudding, etc. I know bone broth has a good amount of protein if you like that. Not eating with your family is really hard. I just keep telling myself that this is not forever and things will be better soon!! Loosing my extra weight is motivation for me!! The hives could be from stress to tell you the truth! My daughter gets hives when she is REALLY stressed. The dr told her to take pepcid. Works like a charm! Keep drinking what ever tastes good to u and know that things will turn around soon!!! Oh, sugar free popsicles and no sugar added fudge bars are really good too!!! You can do this!!!!! -
I had the bypass 6 months ago. For the first month, I couldn't even drink water without feeling sick. I had to get a script for a nausea patch that is worn behind the ear. I could only drink Peppermint tea. By the second month, I could only eat Cream of Wheat, and a little bit of Oatmeal. I couldn't drink Protein drinks until my 4th to 5th month, and even now, I didn't drink them very often. I recently tried the Carmel flavored Fairlife, and I do like that one. I eat raw, unsalted almonds, and walnuts if I get hungry between meals. It is my go to food. I haven't had a problem with it. Have you tried to eat Cottage Cheese? I eat that instead of yogurt, because I don't like yogurt, and it has more protein. I still have a lot of mucus when I eat. I have to spit after almost every bite I take. I asked the doc about it, and they didn't seem concerned. Oh, and if my hubby cooked anything, the smell would make me feel so sick, I would have to go outside to get air.
-
So I'm at a loss, the smell of food now makes me sick to my stomach especially when my family eats fast food. I struggled with eating because everything would come up, found out I had a small stricture. Had the procedure last week and have been trying to eat but nothing. Everything I've tried has come back up again and it tastes disgusting I mean just vile. The only thing that stayed down was refried beans from a local Mexican restaurant and when I eat Greek yogurt but I'm getting tired of it. I cant even drink my protein drinks they make me throw up mucus. I know this won't last for ever but I have no clue what to do and I'm hungry. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice? Before Surgery Shopping List
BigSue replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I used the 2-ounce disposable cups right after surgery, first to measure out protein shakes (you have to sip really slowly for the first couple of weeks, so it's best to track your intake 1 or 2 ounces at a time), and also to portion out purees and soft foods. Your portion size for purees and soft foods is about 2 ounces, so you can measure out individual portions of stuff like yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed cauliflower, applesauce, pudding, Jello, etc. I still use them all the time now for meal prep. I like to make a big batch of something and split it up into individual servings to freeze. You can fit 8-10 in a quart-size Ziploc bag. I have a freezer full of these containers with individual servings of turkey meat sauce, Mexican shredded chicken, Asian chicken, BBQ chicken, black beans, salsa, raspberry puree, and strawberry puree. That gives me tons of easy meals, like: Mexican chicken + salad, Asian chicken + cauliflower rice & veggies, BBQ chicken + green beans, turkey meat sauce + ricotta bake, turkey meat sauce + spaghetti squash, Greek yogurt + raspberry puree, etc. (The black beans and salsa are just so they don't go bad before I use a whole container and I can just thaw a little at a time.) I also use them as condiment cups, like ranch dip for veggies, or salad dressing to bring to work, or for small amounts of toppings like parmesan cheese or nuts. They also work as pill holders (I mostly use a pill organizer -- another great thing to have: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072VQY7M7/ -- but sometimes I don't want to bring the whole day's worth of pills with me). -
Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?
HollyDolly replied to LoveSimcha's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello. I had the cursed lap band too! It never slipped but I ended up with a hiatal hernia, a gastric polyp, AND my esophagus had begun to dilate. We tried didn't we? Who knew it would be such a better choice to have a large portion of the stomach removed rather than have a tube put around it? The one I was scared most of was the safer choice! I had my sleeve FEB 10TH. I had band removed November 2019 with hiatal hernia repair. That surgery hurt so much worse than this sleeve it's unreal. Fixing the hernia and removing the band required a lot of muscle cutting. So here I am. Lost 16 pounds before surgery (over 4 weeks by 2 weeks eating extremely clean then 2 weeks of required liquids only) I have lost 12 more pounds since surgery morning. 28# total. Wow, being off of sugary foods, sodas, carbs, all of that junk does work! I hope you find yourself much more comfortable after this surgery than your lap band one!! I am tolerating my liquid diet so much better than I did post lap band surgery! Stick to your surgeon's guidelines 100% !! Be true to that 2 week pre op liquid diet! I truly believe it helped my surgery go better! We were a bit worried from scar tissue from lap band so WE ARE MORE LIKELY FOR A LEAK UNLESS WE STICK TO THE RULES ❤❤❤ I know you will have the discipline and you CAN do this because you had to learn discipline with your band. Also, I recommend Collagen Protein (unflavored) for your liquids you do OTHER than your protein drinks. Collagen is very healing and nourishing to skin and hair and helps new cell turnover. Collagen Peptide protein tastes great and mixes easily in a little warm water....then add your milk and some ice. I use ORGAIN brand unflavored. I add to broth, soups, yogurt, pudding, jello. It dissolves well and does not effect flavor at all. GODBLESS (or whoever you belive in) and you are going to be happy! Thank God liquid diet is temporary !!! So excited for you to kick butt !!!!! -
3 weeks post op - The good and the bad
icandothis_gastricsleeve020221 replied to Dubai_MGB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 23 days post sleeve and still on pureed. Basically all I eat are eggs, oatmeal, tuna salad, and oikos triple zero yogurt. I cannot wait to get on soft foods in a week. As far as water, right now I can have 3 sips at a time and drink 3-4 bottles of water or protein2o, no chugs though. Like you, I do feel dizzy at times when getting up or turning a corner, but not bad enough to feel like I'll faint. I kind of just pause for a moment. I have a lot of energy and feel great and am looking forward to going to the gym next week. My biggest issues right now are lack of bowel movement, skin dryness, and a crazy headache (think its PMS related though). What are you eating in the soft foods stage? -
Let’s talk protein shakes!

Thanks Big Sue (although it looks like Little Sue is a better fit...congrats!) I will definitely look into those Built bars! I LOVE chocolate coconut!! Thank you! P.S. I never thought of adding the protein powder to my Greek yogurt! Hmmm, I’m going to give that a try too!
