  2. TMI. Warning: I had blood in my stool and urin. Went to the doctors and they said I was bleeding and asked if I had consumed alcohol. Lol My consumption was mindless.. and it hurt when I drank it.

    Cautionary Tale!

Well today has been full of some (not so great) adventures. First, I couldn't get out of bed this morning (just super sleepy) so I ended up sleeping until 11am. Drank about 1.5 ounces of Water before getting in the shower. The combination of no water in 10 hours + hot shower left me dizzy, nauseated, and shaky. That was TERRIBLE. But I did drink a 16 oz bottle of water in less than an hour afterwards, so my tummy is definitely healing. Then, I went on some errands with my mom. I brought water with me because of what happened this morning, but nothing else. Realized at 2pm that I'd had no Protein and no calories, so we stopped at a convenience store to see if they had Muscle Milk or something similar. They had Monster Milk, but I didn't want to try it because of the caffeine, so I grabbed a low fat chocolate milk instead. Drank about a third of it and my tummy did NOT like it. It looks like I may be somewhat lactose intolerant after all (I forgot that the milk I drank yesterday was Fairlife, thus lactose-free). In other news, (sorry for the TMI) - I pooped!

Hi all. Guess I will post my before pics too. Nina, no offense here for sure. As for the 1 inch per 30 pounds, not sure about that particular ratio, but if its not TMI, I can sure tell the difference and am quite happy about it
  5. Carrie, I know you're worried. A lot of us have second thoughts but to be honest with you, I don't have IBS and am more constipated than anything so I wonder if your symptoms with IBS would change. I have to take a lot of benifiber just to get things moving and I take it in my cup of tea. I'm also on an anti depressant which I believe tends to constipate you also. I know TMI but that's what we're here for. The vomiting that most people go through if they over eat or eat too fast or don't chew well enough isn't like the vomiting that we're used to when we have the flu. It's much higher up and the food isn't really digested so in some ways it's much easier although none of us want to vomit most of us have had occasion to. My daughter was worried because she said she had a strong gag reflex and didn't want the lap band like I have and is having the gastric bypass but that's her decision and I'm supporting her wishes with that. I had to cancel my lap band the first time two years prior to getting mine in 8/07 because of other people's issues that I had to deal with. Maybe if I had the surgery then I'd be thin by now. It has taken me a while to get used to the band and get it working but so far I seem to be doing well. My surgery went like clockwork and recovery was a breeze and I don't consider myself sick all the time and doubt most people do on this forum, so read more from people and talk to your surgeon if you have worries, I think it's normal and you're making a lot of major changes in your life right now. Good luck brandyII.
  6. Like so many "sleevers" I'm very grateful for my surgery. After struggling with my Lap-Band for years, I was so happy to have another surgical option to help me keep the weight off and continue living a healthy lifestyle. I'm now 6-weeks post-op and, though I certainly don't regret my surgery, I'm struggling with the changes that my body is going through. Forgive me for being blunt, but I don't know what to do about all of the diarrhea that I've been having! After two days of not having diarrhea, I ended up in the hospital with a partial blockage in my colon. I feel like I can't win either way! I can't put my finger on what's causing the issues with my bowels; I've cut out artificial sweeteners, added fiber, subtracted fiber, and various other combinations -- the only thing that works is returning to clear liquids. Of course, this is not a long-term solution. Honestly, the diarrhea wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't accompanied by major bloating and hideously loud bowel sounds! It sounds like there's a bathtub in my stomach that's trying to empty through a straw. I'm doing everything that my surgeon has instructed: taking my antacids, staying hydrated, being mindful of the types of sugars used in my supplements. It's just so hard to stay hydrated when the fluids that you're putting into your body come out faster than you can consume them! At this point I'm just feeling very discouraged and alienated by these symptoms. When I had my surgery, I was prepared to have to deal with people asking me why I'm not eating much or scrutinizing what I do (or don't eat) what I wasn't prepared for was the constant worry of embarrassing bowel sounds and the risk of having an accident in public! I don't want this post to discourage anyone who is considering having the "sleeve" or any other type of WLS procedure. Frankly, I just needed to vent and get some of these feelings out. If anyone has any recommendations or has had a similar experience, I would be very thankful to hear about it. More importantly, does this get better?

This is for the ladies who are banded?

Ugh I dread my periods. TMI here, but I'm dealing with it right now. I always find I'm a lot tighter the first day or two of my period but by day 3 I'm fine again. Hang in there, you're not alone at all on this one.

Oh yeah. I forgot that question. They do test for nicotine. I am 2 weeks post op and I had the RNY. I am just starting the puréed diet. I'm getting about 40 grams Protein per day and trying my best with the Fluid. No major problems. I've read a lot about no postoperative pain and stuff but I did have pain. It's pretty much gone now. I was constipated for a little over a week, but now I've had cramps diarrhea since yesterday. Don't know if it's my fault though. I went to an air show and got a smoothie. They said it was fruit only with no added sugar, but idk. All that may be TMI, but it's just my experience so far. Nothing major, just minor inconveniences. But I'm only 2 weeks out and my body is adjusting. On the upside, I've list 20 pounds since surgery.

    Wanted: September Sleevers!

Im super excited but nervous. I start my clear liquid diet and Miralax prep tomorrow and surgery weds! I hope everything goes ok as planned. I did cheat on the 2 week diet with chicken breast and veggies but did do the soup, shakes, sugar free jello, and increased my water intake dramatically! I haven't lost much weight though but have lost some. I think its because I was taking in to much protein (or constipation...I know TMI)... Good luck to all the Sep 3rd surgeries!
  10. Time to continue my journey. I'm home now, actually got home last night. Surgery went just fine. I do have some discomfort, primarily the incision site that they put the camera through. And it feels like I did lots of sit ups. The experience in the hospital was fine. That staff were all very friendly and helpful. The only weird thing for me, but apparently not surprising, was high blood sugars. One reading over 200. For 3 out of 4 readings they shot me up with insulin. Before release BS was 118. I was very motivated to come home as I couldn't get good rest there. They were taking vitals constantly (good thing I know) but didn't help sleep which was maybe a half hour at a time. Walked the first day and night and several times on day two, multiple laps. They took the cath out the morning of the second day and the drain right before I came home (didn't hurt but felt very strange). They warned that if a fever of over 101.5 to call them. I had a fever of 100.2 when I got home (none at hospital), took the pain med and went to sleep. It was 99.9 this morning and took the med again. Now 7 hours later no fever. Last night slept in my own bed with a long pillow on my side, actually was able to sleep on my side and feel pretty good this morning. It was so nice not to juggle the IV and drain. Also glad to be home as my cycle started today (sorry if tmi), so better here than there in my opinion. Have lots of post op meds. Have the anti-clotting injections, had two in the hospital and will begin self injection this afternoon. They also prescribed Actigall to prevent gallstones, and protonix. If needed I also have pain meds and anti-nausea meds. And for the meds I was taking previously they prescribed 15 days worth to be crushed and then I can resume the extended release if/or until no longer needed (blood pressure, effexor). The only other thing to take is my Vitamins. I chose Flintstones. LOL Have been enjoying an EAS shake this thus far and am up to 16g Protein and 10.5oz Fluid so have to work on that a bunch more, but didn't get out of bed until late so got a late start. Did keep a Water bottle next to bed for sips through the night. I guess that's enough of a novel for now. Off to read some more about everyone's experiences.
  11. my surgery is today and my anxiety is getting the best of me. I threw up twice last night ( sorry if TMI) I'm not so much worried about the surgery as I am the recovery. Not sure how bad the pain will be, etc. of course anxiety can have no real reason at all - last night I thought I was having a panic attack. not fun. well I'm off to get ready to leave for the hospital. Telling myself it will be ok.
  12. Hello I am new to this and have really found alot of your post helpful! I was sleeved 6/27. I am suppose to start my pureed foods this Monday. But today i tried a little egg and it was fine and for dinner I tried a little mashpotatos that was also fine but I did fine myself in the restroom a little quicker then normal. (sorry tmi) My question is about my liquid intake. I am wondering how much is normal amount of ounces to be able to intake? I just had a 16oz snocone and 8oz Water immediately after. It took me 2 hrs to finish but it was continuous, I never put it down. Is this normal? Or ok? Sent from my LG-D415 using the BariatricPal App

    What do we need!?

I completely agree with hopefulvspgirl I bought so many protien shakes I couldn't stand them after surgery so a lot of $$ down the drain. I also me get used baby plates or cutlery. The one recommendation I have is probably TMI but I would have Monistat our some form thereof my doctor had me on so many antibiotics while I was in the hospital that I was miserable about 3 days in at home. Hope this helps! Best of luck to you! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using BariatricPal mobile app

    6. Nature - I think what I love most about it is watching life in action from the cycles of the season to seeing living things going about their business whether it's an insect, bird, or squirrel. All of it works for me. And yes, I love water and am not happy when I'm not near some. 7. Hard to choose any one book. Maybe one of my first ones that turned me into a reader. There was Island of the Blue Dolphins, The Trumpeter Swan, and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. On the food challenge...did well on Tuesday, nearly made it through yesterday but had 1/2 a candy bar last night. On another note, I just gave up daily coffee today...I was drinking it to support regularity but way too much sugar and since I stopped taking biotin, no problem with regularity. So...I know, tmi.

    Laxative- safe?

I'm 1 month post op today. Down 27. I'm always feeling bloated. TMI- need to really poop, not these little rabit turds. Is it safe to take a gentle laxative. It would be nice going to work next week feeling not so cramped!

    One week out!

Well today is exactly one week from my surgery. I started out this process at 291. When I went in for surgery I was 255. When I stepped on the scale today I am at 243! So I have lost a total of 48 pounds since I began this journey back at the end of September. I have lost 12 pounds since surgery. So far everything has been really good. I am able to eat and drink and not get sick. Last night though I was getting stomach cramping after eating and also when I was drinking water. But this morning it hasn't happened. TMI...my BMs are weird. Liquid in and liquid out and all that jazz. I have heard to never trust a fart this early out and I do believe that is great advice! Back to a more pleasent topic....I finally have been able to sleep in my bed on my side. So the first few days I was sleeping in a comfy chair will like 8 pillows! I also was able to wash and dry my own hair this morning with little pain and discomfort. I have super long and thick hair so it is a pain! It has been raining cats and dogs here in Northern California so I haven't really been able to walk outside. Last night though there was a break in the weather so I went for a midnight walk and it was lovely. I also have gone to the mall to walk around which is okay just to get out of the apartment. I have one more week off from work so I want to relax and make the most of it! Each day gets better and better. I can't wait for next week when I should be able to start pureed foods. It will be amazing once I am back to eating regular foods and still lose weight!

  20. Sorry guys but I have to ask. I am struggling to get in my Protein. I was told to up it to at least 60 but more like over 100. So ONE day I decided to drink 4 of the Premier Protein costco drinks that have 30 grams each of protein. I got in 120 grams and the very next day I literally thought I would DIE. I had major bathroom issues like never in my entire life. Nothing would work. And I mean NOTHING. I thought I was going to have to get a stick of dynamite. Sorry for being so out there but it was horrifying!! I had to go to the doctor. They told me a lot of protein like that can really mess you up. Maybe my body wasn't used to it or maybe that brand of shakes who knows. All I can say is it has taken me a full WEEK to even get my body back on track. I'm on daily doses of miralax, Fiber pills, blueberries, prune juice..whatever is powerful. I never want that to happen again. I was actually scared!! LOL...I know it sounds ridiculous but it literally frightened me to death!! So how are you all really getting in these high amounts of protein and NOT having to live on laxatives b/c I really don't want to do that. But I've noticed that the higher the protein the faster the weight loss
  21. I'm sorry to just start off with tmi but has anyone else has extremely bad runs from the pre op liquid diet. In afraid to leave my house because I won't have a bathroom near by. I don't know if its the protein mic or the 1% milk or what. I'm just having a really bad go of it.
  22. My Life as Liz

    Dilemma

Thank you. The reason I can't tell my dad is because he's bi-polar and unmedicated. So if he knows something then entire universe knows it. No matter how personal it is. And I mean TMI personal. It's taken me YEARS to realize that he doesn't hate me and that if he wasn't bi-polar he might be an ok guy. Might. I just don't feel comfortable telling my sister. I really wish I could, but she always makes snide remarks about fat people giving the impression that to her being fat is the worst thing a person can be. I'm waiting till I see my other BFF in person to tell her. I just don't want to do it over the phone or email or text. She lives 2 states away. Everyone else, it's none of their business. I'll tell people if I feel comfortable. People who I get the vibe that they'd be against this type of surgery I don't tell. Everyone else, eat less move more.

That's funny!! My husband was like wow!! I'm still going thru stages of gas passing, last night it was like one after another!!! Lol I know TMI!!! But it was funny and felt wonderful!!
  24. You guys I got norovirus last week and it was VERY bad. TMI - from both ends. When I was throwing up I feel like I damaged my stomach. I'm 8-9 months from surgery so stomach should be healed by now but I can't eat. I thought I felt better and started introducing 'normal' food on Saturday. I've only been able to eat crackers which I know is a no no. I can't eat protein as I just get so nauseous and feel like I'm going to puke. Anyone had norovirus after surgery? How long did it take to recoup? I'm still quite tired but was able to go to the gym today. I don't want to undo all I've done because of this stupid thing. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm so close to calling the surgeon.

Am I Going To Die? and Salad for the price of a cookie.

I had my 3rd post surgical appointment yesterday, one week shy of 4 months banded. I was glad to finally be seeing the doctor because I've had some digestive issues since my last fill -- vomiting, sliming, discomfort...you name it. And then, about a week ago, I felt a lump in my abdomen, just inside my hip bone. It was tender to the touch and seemed to move when I changed position. I thought maybe it was a hernia I'd never noticed because of all the fat on my gut before but definitely wanted to have it checked out. So, I'm sitting in the exam room waiting for the doctor and reading the informative poster about the digestive system which, as we know, ends in the colon and rectum. How delightful to read the symptoms of colo-rectal cancer while I've got a lump I'm worried about. Here's my thought process: "Let's see, hmmm, change in bowel habits - check, pain or tenderness in the abdomen - check, other TMI symptoms - check, check, check.... OMG, I HAVE COLON CANCER! Great! Isn't this just ironic that here I am, finally losing weight so I can live a healthier life and now I'm going to die from colon cancer anyway. I shouldn't have smoked. I shouldn't have drunk too much. I shouldn't have had a high fat diet. I shouldn't have.....oh, here comes the doctor." So, when the doctor asks me how I am, I blurt out, "I have a lump in my abdomen and at first I thought it might be a hernia but after reading THAT, I'm a little worried it's colon cancer." He sort of laughs and says, "If you had colon cancer and could feel a lump through your stomach, you'd be f'n dead already." Well, I do like him for being blunt. So, he feels around and says it's a hematoma and asks if I had an injection recently. I did not and, I can't think of any incident where I got poked or fell on something..... So, chalk it up to all the swimming I did in Mexico - probably a small tear in my muscle. Phew. Thank goodness these hypochondria moments don't last too long. So, now that I know I'm not going to die (from this particular ailment), I mention that I might need a slight unfill because I'm concerned I'm not getting enough food since the last fill on 1/27. I've been trying to do about 1/2 cup of food but find I get very full just at a little over 1/4 cup down and begin to feel uncomfortable, get slimy and..as I mentioned above, vomit. The doctor says I don't need an unfill and that 2 ounces of solid food at a sitting is just about right. So, no fill, no unfill. But, you know, I really miss eating even though I take longer to do it now and can eat almost anything - just not much of it. I miss everything about cleaning my plate, the feel of the food in my mouth, having more than one course.....dessert! Today I went to the cafeteria to get some lunch. I got a small soup (less than half filled) and put 1 hard boiled egg, one slice of cucumber and a few carrot shreds in the smallest salad container they had. When I took it to the cashier, it wouldn't weigh -- it was too light for the scale so she charged me for a cookie (!!!) -- all of $.50. I got a packet of mayo and made myself a little egg salad and had some on a saltine. It tasted good. I could have licked the container but I was too full. I couldn't even eat the 2nd saltine. I signed up for this knowing the band was a tool and that I had to do the heavy lifting. It's working, I'm working. I'm vomiting, it's working. I'm sliming, it's working. I've lost 58 lbs, it's working. It's working, it's working.
