Nutritionist are nuts! Don’t get me wrong, many are good. But many also go by that stupid “BOOK” and what the book says your height and weight should be. What they say every single person should be is BS! -

Yes guys can be D-Bags at the gym! Either they think their all big badass’s or they stand there and just stare at you like lost dogs. Every time I’m in the weight room I enjoy yelling at guys for be D-Bags! LOL! Anyway, a personal trainer can be very helpful. They will hold you accountable and help you with everything you need! Honestly to tell you the truth...I was completely against weight loss surgery for years! In my profession I always thought with hard work and dedication...you can lose weight! Well that’s BS!!! Cause I can gain all the muscle in the world but I also gain fat too. I can work hard and lose weight, but I can NEVER keep it off. I realized I have an eating problem. A problem that my knowledge and skills can’t fix. So I decided I needed help. So I looked into Bariatric surgery and decided that it’s an amazing opportunity for me to help me with my eating problem. I will be able to lose the fat Iv been packing on top of my muscles and keep it off. I can be healthier and live longer! I’m am now 100% for Bariatric Surgery! -

My professional advice...LIFT WEIGHTS! Your booty will be amazing!!! Every person is different. Every body is different. The way everyone is made is different. I’m not a believer in the BS written on paper for every single person that is a certain weight or height. Not every woman is the same nor built the same way. And not every man is the same nor built the same way. And yes! Thick girls are way cute!! -

Lucky you, after softball and basketball practice they fed us salt pills. Yucky little b*****'s,seemed like they stuck in my esophagus half way down[emoji20]Guess what positions I played? Center, power forward because when teacher or coach wasn't around we played boy rules. And considering I now have 2 knee replacements- catcher. Yep good enough I was on a traveling team, very minor league but we thought we were the greatest thing since sliced bread[emoji12] Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
Just a heads up, I called BCBS fed today and they said if paperwork gets sent AFTER Tuesday it takes a week for them to get it in the system!! So out of the 30 days, it takes them 5-7 days to get it put into their system!!

I don't understand how you could have been fed in hospital? Protein shakes? I was sleeved 1 week ago and I'm on only clear liquids, no yogurt, and only 6 ounces of protein shake a day that's about half a small container. Water, chicken broth, ice pops, that's it

I'm playing the waiting game with bcbs fed as well! It seems like it's taking them FOREVER! Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

Serial Yo-Yo Dieter considering surgery (questions & concerns)
BadGuy40 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Long story short, I have a beautiful baby daughter who means the world to me. Don't get me wrong, there's 1,000,000 reasons to do this in the first place, but it breaks my heart to imagine passing down bad habits to her or (at worst) her losing her father. I know exactly what it takes to lose weight. Calories in, calories out. Just stick to that, and you'll lose. Its insanely simple - yet somehow I can't stick to it. Logically it seems idiotic to not get a handle on this. I mean no judgement, I'm just speaking honestly. Somehow, I CANNOT get a handle on this. I'm at the point where I'd call this addiction. Food is tied to my emotions. At my best, I'll go months and months eating right (enough) and lose 50+ pounds. I even lost 120 in younger days. Somehow, the motivation eventually drains from me and its like nothing will stop me from checking out . . Its just not 'there' anymore. Before I know it, the weight is back. I've been down the same road so many times. The thought of going down it again, dedicating my life to it, is draining. I'm fatigued and I haven't even started (again) yet. I'm not sure where to go from here. Questions: 1 - What is the success rate, no BS. I mean long-term success where people are living happy lives and food (one way or another) isn't their end-all be-all. 2 - I keep hearing you have to make a lifestyle change, diet, lose weight, eat right, etc. . . I'm also hearing if you don't, you can grow your stomach back and gain weight again. This sounds incredibly discouraging, because if it was that easy, wouldn't we all just do it without surgery? 3 - What is the best option for long-term success? Apologies for the vent session. I'm at the end of my rope and I'm frustrated. -
So I keep feeling like I'm doing something wrong.... I know I've been told "don't compare yourself to others" but it's so hard not to. I started this journey 10/24/17 my surgery weight was 232. I stalled when I was about 4 weeks out and was stalled for about 4 weeks.... I'm now 5 months out and just feel like I should weigh less than 190lbs. I again, haven't lost anything in the last two weeks. I eat very little carbs, 60-100g of protein daily, water is on point, and I increased my calories to 1,200cal daily bc I'm going to the gym anywhere from 2 to 4 times a week doing cardio and weight training (group classes). So many other people have lost 60lbs in like 17weeks post sleeve..... Am I just over thinking it? Am I a slow loser? Am I a healthy loser? Am I doing something wrong? SW 232 CW 190 GW 150

I don’t remember exactly how long-was sleeved in August-but it will. It may take a couple weeks bc your body is adjusting and you’re still full of post surgery fluids, swollen from all that they did and medications. I do remember post c-section, after 2 weeks I saw a huge difference and felt normal at 6 weeks. Hang in there!! It’s gonna be so worth it before you know it!! Congratulations on having your surgery! It has been the best choice I have ever made! Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 188 on 3/7/18 5'7" GW: 150

Pre-Op Diet for Initial Weight Loss
TX4everLinds replied to Kay07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keto is low carb (usually less than 30g), moderate protein (bc protein unused turns to sugar, and high fat. The idea is that you starve out of carbs so that your body burns fat for fuel. It works! I recommend Maria emmerich’s website and cookbooks. She explains it well. You have to remember that carbs in non starchy veggies are a little different than refined sugar and bread carbs in that they have fiber. -
April 2nd surgery date is set!
KatFight replied to jrsone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@jrsone I’m so happy for you. Congratulations. You sound like you definitely have the mindset. That’s going to take you a long way in a positive direction. I had my mindset intact too and it’s helped me get through the post-surgical diet with ease. I’m sorry to hear that your wife’s surgery was not possible bc of insurance. That’s really disappointing. I wish you all the best and hope children are in your future. Let us know how you’re doing when you get through it, ok? 🌞 -
Pre-Op Diet for Initial Weight Loss
Blondietex replied to Kay07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really can't look at Keto as I like to work-out and you need more carbs to do that, and I like lots of veggies and fresh fruits which aren't really doable and still keep to the very, very low carb requirements for Keto. I went back to a modified Paleo/Whole 30 diet which focuses on clean food sources, high protein and typically no dairy, grains or legumes and is low sugar (and when you do use sweeteners, only low glycemic sources like real maple syrup, dates or coconut sugar) as this has worked for me in the past. I've never had an issue with eating dairy, grains and legumes in moderation and still loosing weight. So I just don't eat them every day and only in small amounts (like max 1/2 cup serving a day). I make sure any grains I do eat are whole grains or sprouted grains/legumes, and I stick to grass-fed dairy to get the added healthy Omegas. Healthy fat sources are also key for Paleo - like avocados, coconut oil, etc. and keep me from feeling hungry. My surgeon had also recommended the Paleo diet as well. When I'm lazy and don't want to cook, I'm luckily we have a place nearby that makes ready-to-eat Paleo dishes and also makes Paleo compliant condiments like BBQ sauce, steak sauce, etc. which are a pain to make yourself. However, you can now order these things online, and there are meal prep delivery services that follow Paleo/Whole 30 (or Keto) guidelines. The real key for me pre-surgery (and will be for post-surgery) has been learning to avoid office food, planning for office breakfast/lunch meetings and limiting my eating out. This is when I fall off my healthy eating I also have a bad sweet tooth so I've been trying to have alternative choices at work and home like sugar-free jello, stevia flavored gum, real fruit popsicles and fresh fruit. I've been packing my own "snack packs" with things like 1/4c almonds and 1oz of hard cheese or beef jerky and 1/2 cup of seedless grapes or a hard boiled egg and 1/4c cashews. So when the bagels appear, I have something I can reach for 11 pounds down so far. [My case is going before committee this month and I hope to have the surgery in May.] Now I have to gear up my workouts more... -

Good Lord! Demand a referral to another one immediately!!! That's absolutely terrible. Mine works with my surgeon and her bariatric patients routinely so knows the drill. While I was there, they had 3 other of her patients in the waiting room doing the same thing I was doing! I'm so sorry you had that experience, but don't put up with that BS! Fire her! -
I feel so doomed
mobmilkmaid84 replied to NurseRosemary's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
It's been hard to do any outdoor exercise due to heavy snow and weather where we live but since spring is finally coming around every night I've been strapping him in to the back carrier and going to collect sap for our maple syrup and hiking back from the woods w him through the field Bc there is at least 6 inches of tough crust to fight through. I've also pulled back out my elliptical and have been trying to do it in the evenings. I was worried I lost my pouch but I've literally have been eating 3/4 or an egg and maybe a half of a sausage link for Breakfast but am starving by 10. So iv had a shake to hold me over until lunch. I'm happy to know my pouch tolerance is only my fault but now to get over the stupid food addiction again. So I've been starting to keep a good log to keep me accountable -

no, no challenges at all. and i’m not trying to be flippant, but, getting to the goal itself was the reward! it’s the thing i have wanted my whole life and it’s here and i can’t believe it. every time i go up three flights of stairs and don’t even breathe hard, that’s my reward. every time i sit on the floor and play with my niece, it’s a reward. every sports game i take my nephew to, which i couldn’t before bc i couldn’t fit in the seats, it’s a reward. every day is a reward in a hundred different ways. -
3 days post op and in pain just sipping water
DMF3296 replied to Jennoue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weighed more in hospital too bc they pump you with all the fluids, then when I weighed in at my 7 day post up I had lost 8 pounds, my doctor said that was normal bc it was the fluids balancing out. -
I am in BC Canada and there is no self pay option here for gastric sleeve. I had a gastric band, but it was removed in September 2017 due to a port infection. My doctor sent a referral to the bariatric program here, but it can be a two year wait for a consultation even... so I am exploring my options. Where can I go??? The thought of surgery in Mexico is terrifying, but so many people do it. Are there any other Canadians out there who had surgery elsewhere? Where did you go? How much did it cost? Are you happy? TY in advance

Two years of documented weight...
Introversion replied to sasa_maria's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was insured by BC/BS of Texas at the time I was sleeved 3 years ago. -
It’s just crazy to me that he told me to lose weight than i do and tells me no more. I know with others he didn’t tell to lose weight bc they weren’t way pass 40 I feel like he is too busy and doesn’t get to know each patient and just says to me what he says to other ppl. I wasn’t required to lose weight either for insurance or anything... Thanks for responding!!!

That's bc colon cancer is almost entirely preventable. The idea of a colonoscopy freaks people out, but cancer is worse. I am getting a colonoscopy as soon as I am old enough. Bring it on! Cancer sucks.

It depends on your dr!!! My one dr was so wonderful and made my height 5’6 when I’m really 5’7 and that made my BMI higher so I qualify.. but now with my other dr he is going by 5’7 and told me that my BMI is 40.7 and not to lose anymore weight or they won’t cover surgery bc I’ll be under BMI.
