How is this for anxious....:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: My consult with Nisrene at TLBC if on April 13th and because I don't want to waste any time whatsoever, I called her this am to ask if I could book the surgery now as I feel so well informed etc especially from my very very informative friends here, she agreed and I will be banded on April 26th. She said that I will need 7 to 10 days for the pre op diet so that was the soonest. I am freeeaaaaaakiiiiinggggg out!!!!! I feel so ready for this. I know I can lose the wait but I cannot keep it off. Each time I lose I gain back even more. I have reached 205 which I didn't even weigh when I delivered my first child. I am off to San Andres Island tomorrow for one week but I look forward to talking with you guys soon. Thank you again, all of you for your inspiration, courage and support D

Hello, I was also banded on 8/14 but am still having port tenderness. Also, I get a fill on 9/23 too...very strange! I lost 10 lbs prior to surgery and have lost 20 since but like you, have little restriction. I do have some but not a lot. Best of luck to you!

Hello, I was banded 03/07/11 and I am still really swollen and in pain. Everyone I know with the band weren't swollen at all like me and was pain free by 2nd wk. It frustrates me cause I.m trying to get back to work, but my port site and my right side is swollen and I.m worried about it. Just to say my port is in the middle of my belly. Is there anyone that was still swollen and feel pain in there 2nd wk. Is this normal?

I've had the info seminar and I'm meeting with the surgeon next Wednesday. Not sure what procedure I'll have, but leaning toward the sleeve. I have a friend who got the lap band 10 years ago and she has put it all back on. Another friend got the sleeve 2 years ago and is really struggling. She's gained back 35 and in crisis. My main worry is not the surgery, but regaining weight down the road, like happened with all my other big weight losses. Any advice from the long-term folks? This is the one aspect that terrifies me. Thanks!

OK, so I'm trying out some options for when I have to do the liquid protien diet and found something really GOOD. I mix up a batch (2 cups) of SF Jello and add a scoop of unjury unflavored. I put it into 2 1 cup individual serving cups, then when I'm ready to eat it I add a squirt (small) of Redi-Whip. It comes out to 10 gm protien, 1 gm carb, 75 calories, and its yummy!! I think the whipped cream hides the slight wang of the whey protien or something, or maybe It just makes me feel like I'm cheating, which technically, I guess I am...

Very Low Weight Loss After Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
bellabbr posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so frustrated. I blew our savings to have this surgery and now I don't think its working. I have lost 5 lbs and I am 10 days post op. I am getting in my Protein and most of my Water. I am still in the clear/full liquid phase. The only possible thing I can think happened is I eat a pudding because I was so sick and tired of drinking Protein shakes so I add my protein to my pudding and between that and the protein shakes I am at like 25-30 grams of carbs a day. Please tell me there is hope. I am so upset -
Hi... I live in Medford... I went to Penn Hosp with Dr Kirkland. He is a great doc! I would refer anyone to him. He listens to you. As I have read in here some docs are making people wait for their 1st adjustment. Dr. Kirkland wants you to be sucsessful & does not want you to have the hungry feeling at all. So me having my surgery on 10/5 he is ajusting me on 11/5, then again before Christmas. I feel like I need an adjustment as I am starting to get hungry. Good luck in your search. Check out Dr Kirkland. Google him and you will see he is a great doctor.

ButterflyBandita?? posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To say I'm excited is an understatement! I'm finally getting this damn band out. I've only had it in for 8 months, but it has been no fun for me at all. Thanks to everyone for all of your assistance as I researched and researched within these forums. I think I've read every single post on this site. I'm feeling really good about my decision. Anyone else having surgery at the same time? -
I have been thinking about having this done for quite some time and am now REALLY wanting to get on with it. I attend my first seminar on October 19th and then will be anxious to hear what my insurance (Aetna) will do. I have my doctor's full support, as I am dealing with many issues including Type 2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and the usual. I've been overweight since childhood, parents putting me on medications by age of 10, and then done every diet known to woman, and then some. I've done many of the diets more than once, losing, only to gain back more than I lost. It's is so wonderful to come to this place and hear your wonderful success stories, hear your concerns and get the support, and have you ask the same questions as many of us have - and have them answered. Thank you to all of you who put in your time and effort to support and encourage me, us! Success and health to everyone on your venture and endeavor!

I bought a cook book over the weekend called Hungry Girl. This girl makes all our favorite recipes in low calorie, low fat versions. I made the salsa pumpkin Soup for lunch today and it was DELISH! So, here it is... Ingredients 4 cups fat-free chicken or vegetable broth One 15-ounce can pure pumpkin (I used Libby's) One 15-ounce can black Beans, drained and rinsed 1 cup canned sweet corn kernels 3/4 cup salsa 1 tablespoon minced garlic (I used a little garlic powder instead) 1 teaspoon chili powder 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin Directions In a medium pot, bring broth and spices to a simmer. (if you are using the minced garlic, spray the pot with a little cooking spray and cook garlic for a minute before adding broth and spices). Add pumpkin and mix well. Add remaining ingredients, stir, and bring soup to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes. Enjoy! Makes 4 very generous servings! (I would guess 1.5 cups or so, maybe even a little more) Per Serving: 177 calories, 1g fat, 991mg sodium, 35g carbs, 8.5g Fiber, 8g sugars, 9g Protein

Today I decided to get a fruit & yogurt parfait from McDonalds for the first time. I ate about half the yogurt but not the fruit. 10 minutes later I had some serious back pain going across my mid back. It lasted for about an hour. Well, jus to make sure that I wasn't imagining things I just ate the other half of the yogart. Lo & Behold my back is killing me again. Has anyone experienced anything like this? What causes this type of reaction? Any info. would help. Thanks!

Still on the fence....
coolcrystal replied to Denourse's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yeah, that sounds about right. You should try to find a doctor that will also give you the fills for free with that price. My doctor charges 15k for everything including all dr. visits and fills for a year. I think there is a doctor in Colorado that charges 10 or 11k for everything, but then you have to find a fill center around you. But, it might be work it if you save 5k. Yes, I'm glad I got the band. I'm very happy with my results so far and I'm still on my journey. -
Hello everybody! I too am new-just joined yesterday. I got banded on 10-7-05 and Dr. St. Laurent says that I have done real good for a bandster because I have lost 58 pounds in just 3 months!!! However, I had my second fill 5 days ago and and am not doing well at all. I can just barely keep down liquids or a few bites of yogurt. I'm going to give myself another 3 or 4 days and if no improvement I will call the doctor back. Does anybody think that this is too restrictive or should it settle down after a week or so? I tried a few bites of baked fish yesterday and it got "stuck" and lasted for about 2 hours and I about died. Couldn't throw it up but it finally stopped. I am afraid to eat any solid food right now and I swear that I will never go through that again!!!

I had my sleeve done on July 16th. Went well except I had sever nausea and had to be re-admitted to the hospital for another day to re-hydrate. I am able to drink clear liquids now and I will start my pureed foods tomorrow. I have lost 19 pounds since my two week post op liquid diet and am very happy. I still have a very bloated feeling in my stomach which feels like a lot of gas and popping. Anyone else feel like this the first week out?

August 20 Bandsters, Tomorrow Is The Day! Let's Hear From You.
Gigi_Girl posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am excited that the day is almost here! My surgery is scheduled for 10 on Monday. The pre-op liquid diet passed much quicker than I expected. Today I am drinking coffee, Vitamin Water, suger free gatorade, and strained chicken noodle Soup and preparing food for my family. Funny, I am enjoying the smells of food, but it is not bothering me. How are you feeling today? -
BANAJOR OR BUST! Surgery 4/3/06
azremaxpro replied to lightnerbride's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I went to mexico on 3/3/06 I am feeling great and down 19 lbs. I went to belightweight DR Kuri. I chose that one because of the new hospital and they only wanted a $500.00 deposit. The hospital was incrediable. Brand new and so clean and well kept. The rooms had a place for my husband to stay at my side and tv and DVD for him to wach movies. The shower was also a huge tiled shower. This allowed my husband to get in with me post op and be by my side. I drove 8 hrs the day after and then felt good enough to go to work the next day. DONT!! take at least 2 days off. I hope you have as wonderful of am expirance as I did it make sit so much easier. Good luck and good prayers for you all. Brandy -
Go get kids sippy cups. They are small and help keep track of your liquids. When you finish one you feel like you really accomplished something. Also set a timer for every 5-10 min to remind you to sip. My doc said he was most concerned with water at this stage. You don't want to get dehydrated.

the scle is not budging 1 ounce, but I'm happy 26 lbs down. Thats 10% of my starting weight! I'm in bandster hell, but thats ok.... I was mentally prepared to be there. I'm eating and drinking Water and not worring too much. And very thankfully, I lost from my tummy first! Surprised me considering I'm very apple shaped.

BUT...I eat a cup of full fluids or mushies and and I'm ok for 2-3 hours....and still only getting in <900 calories, but just spending more time hungry than I was. It's all good. I scheduled my appt for my 1st fill for May 4th. My soreness is almost all gone but still get tired easily. Grateful the wknd is coming. Incisions are looking good. Signed up with a gym today and I'm really excited about that. Hit the treadmill tomorrow. Tried scrambled eggs tonight and they went down fine. Man, did they taste good!! I can SERIOUSLY see how my relationship with food will be changing. Now, when I'm hungry, I get kind of sad that I can't go out and eat a plate full of enchiladas or a nice sandwich or a steak or even my favorite salad. But it is precisely at that moment I am grateful for my new tool. I can't overeat even if I wanted to. So I shrug my shoulders, go have a 1/2 of cottage cheese and Voila! My hunger is cured ....and so is my sadness (that I can't have enchiladas). I sometimes miss that FULL feeling I used to get....but not really. Not after I've cured the hunger with even a small amount of food. I'm over it just like that. No regrets, no more mourning. This is certainly going to be an interesting journey.

I am 2 weeks out today! I was 281 at my preop testing which was about 2.5 weeks before surgery, I'm 261 today. I lost around 13 lbs the first week after surgery, however the scale has not moved, well it went up a couple pounds, since Monday! Is it really possible to start as stall at 10 days post op? Am I doomed, it's not like anything else I've ever done has worked, maybe this just won't either!? I'm only 5 feet tall so for my weight I really would have thought I'd get a little more out of this than 13 lbs.

If I'm not trying to build muscle, why should I care about protein?
sweetie716 replied to chunkyloverlovesyou's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Making good food choices is a key part of surgery, and that includes getting your Protein in. Definitely follow your doctor's plan because they've put it together based on the specific needs of people who have gone before us. Here's a really good article that addresses a few of these things, in particular #3, 9, and 10. It is not an easy thing to make the change, but for the best chance at long term success it's so worth it. http://www.bariatriceating.com/2015/03/02/top-10-bariatric-post-op-mistakes/
