Lyrica causes weight gain. A friend of mine is on it and she says it makes her very hungry. Elavil did that to me. It makes me crave sugar like crazy. ambien for me is the only thing that has no side effects. BBK, are you going to get an unfill? You could easily add a little bit of food back into your diet to stop losing. I wish I had that problem! I am struggling to lose 1 lb.

Where are my maryland sleevers?
BeagleLover replied to pinkie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My weigh in is this Friday. If you are worried about the weight gain, just look in the packet they gave you and call the nutritionist and ask about it. -
Jenna: The smoking issue is coming along nicely. You are cutting down which in my mind is easier on the system than cold turkey. I did it cold turkey and it was such a shock to my system. IT still hates me hence the weight gain. LOL! Doggie stuffs: My heart absolutely bleeds for you and what Jeter is going through. Keeping you and the family in my prayers.

I had the Mirena on for 3 months and in that time I gained 40 lbs and never took it off. I also had terrible cystic acne along my jawline. The Mirena was horrible for me. In fact, up until I had the Mirena placed I had been losing weight at a fairly constant rate. Suffice it to say I had it taken out and the weight gain stopped, the acne cleared up, and I began to normalize. I also happen to be sensitive to estrogen, so that could be part of my issue. I'm on my 2nd one but didn't experience weight gain or any other stuff. In fact, this one is actually caused my period to almost disappear which is great because it used to be so heavy. I will say that having it removed was pretty painful, more than I expected it to be. Good luck!
-
I would be skeptical that the Mirena is causing your weight problem. Yes, it has hormones, but they do not get absorbed systemically, like if you were on the pill. Therefore, in theory, the weight gain side effects would be less than with other hormonal birth control. Personally, I would take a closer look at what you're eating and exercise level. What has your nutritionist and/or surgeon said? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm on my third Mirena. No weight gain associated, zero acne, lighter periods, less mood swings than the pill. Removal hurts like a biatch, though!

what is the real reason I became obese?
lasal replied to leeann71's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would say a myriad of things contributed to my weight gain. I had a volatile childhood of uncertainty because my parents were making up and breaking up for my young years with a lot of verbal and some physical abuse. I suffered terrible emotional abuse and guilt to choose a side. As a teen I had a drug problem and was very thin. Once I stopped using drugs I substituted with food. I also gained weight as a form of protection against men so that they would leave me alone and not require anything from me. I also have hypothyroidism and gained 70 pounds with my first pregnancy. The rest I chalk up to pure laziness. I know I feel much better when I weigh less and exercise but don't always feel like. I am so grateful to my band because now it truly limits my food intake and I have to assess what makes me want to overeat. -
It might be a fine line...

Mine only get people food on very rare occasions. I was thinking today how it is funny that I am so very careful about what they eat so they don't gain weight, but I have had no problem shoveling bad food choices in to my mouth regardless of the weight gain! Yay for an interesting and lively discussion/debate, y'all! I'm inclined to agree with @loey13 based on my reading and countless exhortations to eat breakfast from dietitians and my therapist (an eating disorder specialist). I think that it's possible we could all agree on the following statement: If you skip breakfast, you may develop more hunger, leading you to eat more throughout the day, which could lead to weight gain. Thoughts? There are obviously exceptions to every rule so hopefully that is a reading of the study's conclusion that could apply to most people generally.

6 Simple Ways to Gain Your Weight Back after Surgery
GreenTealael replied to CharlotteKat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I would add having medical issues and using certain medications can contribute to weight gain that's hard to mitigate. (it's well documented that meds, steroids and psych, cause massive weight gains in a very short period of time) Congratulations on your new journey ♥️ -
Those who are on psych meds, bi-polar, anxiety, depression.
kandywolf posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am bi-polar. Up until surgery I have been stable for almost 4 years. I was taking Welbutrin XR 450 mg am, xanax 1 mg 3 x a day and Seroquel 300 at bed. They never told me before surgery that I would not be able to use the Welbutrin XR any more. They have me on regular Welbutrin 400 mg am. (Can not take them later in the day, they keep me awake) I am snappy, anxious, depressed. I now have been isolating myself. Back to not wanting to do anything. Crying/sobbing moments at least 3x a day. I feel out of control. I am afraid they will try to put me back on an ssri, because that helped the weight gain and the loss of my depth perception. Plus the last one gave me horrible side effects and hallucinations. I cant see psych med until the first week of Feb. I see my counselor tomorrow. Anyone have/had these issues? Well the bad news is I didn't see a great deal of movement on my scale this week - in fact the only movement I had went up slightly - 300g, Taking me back to 12kg loss total!!! The good news is that I saw my dietician this morning and have been well assured that this is actually normal. I clearly need to have another fill which is scheduled for next Friday. I was really bummed about my weight gain yesterday and thank goodness for some very close friends of mine that are there for me all the way and supporting me because I really needed it yesterday. Today I have a much clearer mind and totally understand that it's a process!!!!! livelovelapband.blogspot.com.au

Steph, glad to know you're doing better. Don't worry about the weight gain, as Pelo said, that'll be off in no time.

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Fell Off the Wagon - Ready to Get Back On
angelburch posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had lapband in January of 2007 and lost 50lbs over one year. I stayed about the same in 2008 and then in 2009 started having some issues, and at the same time moved from Texas to Arkansas. I couldn't find a Doctor in Arkansas that would take me (since I already had the surgery), so I had to see my Doctor back in Texas. When my problems began, it was after my last fill, and I couldn't eat ANYTHING, and was continuously stuck. I began to lose weight again, but also was having major spasms in my esophagus. When I was finally able to see my Dr. in Texas, he completely emptied my band and we left it that way for 4 months. Needless to say, I ate everything that I hadn't been able to eat for the last 18 months. In September, after X-rays and other tests confirmed that my band was fine, we started from the beginning and began filling again. Right now, I have some restriction (very minor), but my eating habits are horrible. I've completely forgotten how to eat as a bandster. My weight gain has stopped and I've held steady, but obviously I am not losing. It came to me early this morning that I hadn't utilized this website in a long time, and that I needed to get back here. I would love to have a mentor who can help me get back on track, and focus on the things that are important . . . my health! -
My Doctor (who is the inventor of the Duodenal Switch), doesn't believe in the liquid diet. Just clears 24 hours before. Due to my medication which was changed recently, my hormonal treatment made me gain weight. My doctor spoke with my Endocrinologist who verified the reason for the weight gain and understood. Weight gain, for people with medical illnesses could come for other reasons besides over eating. A good doctor will look for the reason why. My surgery is still on target for February 28, weight gain and all.

Sad....really pathetic- addiction to soda pop manipulate the band
emjay replied to lapbandtalker's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good for you on getting off the soda! It can be really difficult kicking the caffeine habit and giving up something you've been drinking forever. You will feel better. Don't worry too much about the weight gain at this point. I know it can be very discouraging. But you are improving your overall health by getting off the Dew. Your teeth and bones will thank you in later years! Also, congratulations on your weight loss so far! You are a true inspiration! -
I had an early menopause brought on by cancer treatment - OMG it was HORRIBLE. The hot flashes, I would get major panic attacks with them, and want to rip my clothes off. At home, I did rip my clothes off! It upset my sleep markedly too I was absolutely bug eyed, totally depressed, having major sugar cravings, etc. I went onto HRT. I know the risks, but I'm only 44, have early osteoporosis, was miserable and not coping with the menopause symptoms. HRT has been an absolutely life saver for me, I will be on it for a long time yet. I also had to start testosterone treatment and THAT was incredible. That's the fountain of youth. It took away all the aches and pains, the belly weight gain, the declining libido, the mood issues. The little break you had might just be a coincidence, I think a more natural menopause can sort of come and go, cant it?

If it was such a simple science then the obesity rate wouldn't be so high. 3500/ Calories In-Calories Out doesn't always equal a one pound lose. If that was the case people who stick to a plan and exercise and keep track of their BMR wouldn't stall... wouldn't have weight loss spurts... or weight gains. The fact is there are people who have hormone issues, slow metabolisms, yo-yo'ed dieted... lose at different rates.

Stretch marks after Lap Band
dylanmiles23 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Missy and CG, they are there. After 2 kids and endless weight gains and losses I have the USA road map on my belly. I have cottage cheese thighs, but I am thinner and healthier. I don't plan on wearing a bikini this summer either or any other. -
I did the samething you are doing, researched like crazy. Then my brother, whom is a surgical nurse, had the sleeve done. It was a breeze for him. I had SIPS. We both had our surgeries in 2015. He is now gaining again. I am steady at 148-150lbs. Zero weight gain. I have no regrets! In fact, I wish I had it earlier. Feel great. Have any questions, just ask.

*** Question for Bandsters ***
juliegeraci replied to FLMan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is really important to move to mushies then solids. Its not a good idea to eat all liquids. Maybe one protein shake a day but not all day long. It deafeats the purpose of the band to consume too many liquids. You may see a slight weight gain when you move your diet to mushies then solids. That will come off when you start getting fills. Good luck. -
I really am working on not eating sugars because sugar is what has contributed to my past weight gain and diabetes. Sugar is addictive and you can eat a lot of foods really easy that are sugary. those foods are sliders. I choose to avoid sugars as much as possible and eat a wholesome diet focusing around proteins and veggies. I eat or drink anything with caffeine in them now either. i don't miss it either. My plan is to eat healthy and balanced, like the Paleo diet. I even choose to eat foods that are organic without pesticides and antibiotics put in them. Healthy only for me.... I really love this. A side note, I am not perfect and will occassionally eat something that is not organic when eating at friends houses and restaurants. I love my new life style.....
