Arabesque thank you, I have lost 80 pounds so far I am currently 160 the goal I was given from my doctors is 130. So I have 30 pounds left to go. I am 5’3. I know you are all right and the stall will pass. It’s just my first real stall I did not go through the 3 week stall and this stall just reminds me to much of all my diet failures. I know it’s all in my head and will pass!

April Update from everyone
StacyS replied to Ready2BHealthier's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ok ya'll... 18 days post-op and on full liquids! Man, I simply cant get anything thick down!! I was really looking forward to the yummy chocolate Protein shakes that I bought plenty of and NOPE... not going down well at all. I havent been able to drink not one! I have been able to eat about 3oz of blended cream of mushroom Soup, cream of broccoli, and cream of potatoe. And, this morning, by the Luck of the Irish, I was able to finish an entire greek yogurt blended w/some SF jelly!!! I was so proud of myself!! I'm still slow to get all my fluids in. I'm still coming up short on the 64oz as well as the 80g of protein. I am getting a little heartburn now! And, am sad to say, I have officially hit the "3 week Stall" everyone talks about! My scale has not moved all week!! How are you all doing???? -

4 weeks out today and down 25 pounds. I hit the 3 week stall at 2 weeks and the scale only started moving again on Friday. Been doing a lot of walking. Still having some pain in my stomach and when I swallow but I go back to see my dr on Wed and will talk to him about the pain then. Getting dressed in the morning is taking twice as long because clothes that fit me a few weeks ago dont fit me anymore. its nice to clean out my closet a bit though. lol. Glad everyone is doing pretty well. Cant believe it been a month already for so many of us! Keep up the good work!!!!! -

December 2019 Sleevers, how are you doing? What’s your stats?
scorpioscuba replied to smb123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was 12/28 and I'm down a little over 19 lbs. I just got out of the 3 week stall that lasted about 9 days. It was torture!! I do have to make sure I keep up on my water. I'm still on purees until this Saturday then I move to "soft foods." I'm looking forward to that after a month of liquids and purees. But I'm mostly not all that hungry and I get full so fast. I can eat about 2 oz of refried beans or ricotta with marinara sauce and I'm done. I still do a lot of protein shakes to get my protein in. I use it in my coffee and always bring a shake with me in the car when I'm out and about. -
Ugh....6 months?!?!
blizair09 replied to Detroit_25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I knew all along that my insurance would require the six month pre-op diet program. So, I decided to make the most of it. I lost 99 pounds (from 397 to 298) during that time. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I was as prepared as possible for the surgery; I re-established my relationship with food, and I set myself up for continued success post-op. In the 4 months since the surgery, I have lost almost an additional 70 pounds for a total of almost 77% of my excess weight since I started my journey. I can't imagine having to re-establish my relationship with food and deal with the aftermath of surgery all at the same time. Also, dealing with the 3 week stall (that everyone has) was so much easier when I had lost 120 pounds (at that time) than if I had just lost 20 pounds. I wish more people could see the benefits of that six month period and not see it as a bad thing. Anyway, I encourage you to get started now. The surgery is a tool, not a destination, and not the whole of your journey. The mental game is the biggest part of the journey, and the sooner you get that under control, the better off you will be. Good luck! -
Calling all October sleevers!!
BuffaloBill replied to Detroit_25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definately hit the 3 weeks stall. Havent lost anything in about a week. I watched a very informative video on YouTube from a bariatric surgeon named Dr. V about working out Post-Op. Your/My body isnt taking in enough calories to make working out productive. Walking for 20-30 mins is ok cause that speeds up your heart and will burn fat but anything else will burn muscle cause the body will go into starvation mode and eat your muscle. Dr Duc C Vuong check out the video on Working out after Gastric Sleeve. Now this all depends on your caloric intake. Now that ive moved on too soft foods I can only take in 1200 calories at most a day. Thats all my sleeve will fit . -

My surgeon warned me that there is usually a stall around 3 weeks, and that you may even a couple lbs, but its just your body getting used to everything. Itll pass, don't be discouraged! I hit a 3 week stall but i was so busy moving i barely noticed (thank goodness) -
July 2020 Surgery anyone?
Double_Me replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow marks 4 weeks since I had my bypass surgery. Over this period of time I've lost about 15 lbs, including a 10-day stall in the middle where I lost nothing a week after surgery. This corresponds to the 3-week stall, as I started shedding pounds at the beginning of my pre-op diet which was two weeks long. Glad that it's over- I've been steadily losing since then. Here's some stats: I've found that I still struggle to tolerate eating more than 2 oz of food at a time, so introducing vegetables back into my diet has been limited as I'm full up on my proteins. I average anywhere from 550-650 calories/day, which has usually included three 100-150 cal meals and a protein shake. Protein is about 55-70 grams/day. Go-tos have been ricotta or cottage cheese with salt & pepper, sliced ham/sliced prosciutto, smoked salmon with a little bit of lite cream cheese and everything bagel seasoning. Getting used to tossing those 1 or 2 bites of food left on my plate was hard at first, but became much easier after I stopped throwing it in the trash and switched to scraping it into my dogs bowl. Feels like I'm not letting good food go to waste! Mentally, I've had some tough days, but now I don't even think about eating to distract myself. Recently I've been unable to prepare a meal for myself without trepidation and discomfort. My stomach physically gurgles and turns as if I'm already going to experience rejection... has anyone else felt this? Its the worst when I'm heating up something hot... smelling food that used to appetize me causes this reaction. Usually as I begin to eat this feeling passes, but there is always some anxiety at the beginning. The most crazy thing about this is my mind still loves good food and cooking and I think about meals often, only to find that I'm repulsed by the idea of eating them. I've spoken to my therapist and hopefully we can find strategies to help, but so far this has been my primary source of concern post-op. I've been reading all of your posts and the comfort that they bring me as we go through this journey together is invaluable. Hoping for the best for everyone -
Dreaded 3-week stall?
BarefootDrummer replied to BriDawn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I see this is an old thread, just being revisited, but I had heard mention of the "3 week stall." Now, I'm living it! I was steadily losing weight every single day and then at 3 weeks it stopped. The scale has remained the same for the whole week, despite me doing nothing different. I still have a long ways to go. It does make me nervous because I've done many very low calorie diets in the past and my body adjusts to the lower calories and then stops losing. I asked my surgeon about this before surgery to make sure the same wouldn't happen and he said he didn't think it would. I'm hoping this is just the 3 week stall that people have spoken about. Does anyone know WHY a lot of people stall at 3 weeks? Is there any way to help break it? How long does it typically last? Holly -

Embrace the Stall
cindi gant replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
In 23 months I have had too many stalls to count. I did not have the 3 week stall. It seems like my first stall was at about 3 months. Not sure though. I have probably had 10 stalls or more. Some were longer than others. The sleeve was a revision so I know how this goes. I have not had many surprises. When you have a stall try the usual things, drink more water, increase your protein, exercise more, reduce your calories by 100 - 150 or maybe add 100 - 150 calories for a week or so. These things may or may mot help. Bottom line, trust the process. Don"t worry. Depending on when your surgery was, call your doctor if the stall lasts more than a month. You have to be comfortable with what your body is doing. You may not be losing pounds but you are probably losing inches. -

There is a lot of swelling and tissue trauma after surgery. Once this goes down, you will see that scale go down, too. Once a started losing again, the weight was coming off at 1 pound per day. WOW! I thought I was going to be one of those super-losers! But now I am at the 3 week stall. It is so good to know that this is common. Just gotta keep doing the right things and be patient. It will come off when it's ready.

3 week stall - Just a rant from a newbie
Shanna NYC replied to Charmed Holls's topic in Rants & Raves
Here to give you hugs and a shoulder. I have dealt with the 3 week stall and I’m just here to say, before you know it it’ll be over. Think about when was it the last time you even lost 13lbs in a month? Even in my best place with diet and exercise I can say that was a stretch. But also, this really isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon. We are in it for the long haul though our brains feel like this “tool” is an instant fix. It is probably harder around the holidays and I truly can’t say I’ve had to experience that end so early on, but just remember that the holidays are about so many other things. Hold on to the experiences outside of food. Remember that the food is truly not going anywhere and think of how you feel (and look) this time next year. Reach back to your whys. The greater reasons why we did this to begin with. I can’t help too much with full on menus, but one thing that helped a lot with puréed to soft was the ricotta bake. It felt like pizza/lasagna after I was sick of all the sweeter liquids and broths. It feels eternal now, but it will be such a small blip of time before you know it. Much love and wishing you a happy holiday and strength. -
Embrace the Stall
Mania replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Quick question. I had my VSG surgery 10 days ago. Before I started my 2 week liquid diet, I weighed 372.8 lbs. On this past Thursday I weighed 335.8. So that a loss of 37 lbs in roughly 3 weeks. I think I am now stalled because I have not lost any weight since Thursday (was seeing a 2-3 lbs a day after surgery.). Can this be my 3 week stall? -
Minimal to no weight loss?
The Greater Fool replied to MshellL87's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Everyone reacts differently to surgery. The 3 week stall is a thing, but it does not necessarily wait until the 3rd week. Your surgeon isn't worried and he did comment that you were a lower BMI to start, probably lost weight before surgery, so not losing much the first 3 weeks does not sound way out of whack. So... Get off the scale. It is crazy making and distracting and discouraging you. You don't need it for the important stuff. The important stuff: keep following your plan. Exercise if you are so inclined. Keep doing both. If you follow your plan, you will do fine. It will be OK. Honest. Good luck, Tek -
Do i qualify for the surgery ?
NikkiDoc replied to jessicasantana28's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The information seminar is normally a power point presentation to a group of people that are interested in WLS. One of the surgeons in the practice normally goes over obesity and the risks of obesity, the various surgeries that practice performs (sleeve, bypass, band, DS), the normal outcomes for each surgery, the risks of each surgery. They will normally discuss what else is available through their program such as Nutritionist (NUT), support groups. Frequently they will have a former patient come in to talk about their experience. Then a Q&A session. There is normally a coordinator there with handouts and they will take you name and number to follow-up to see if you want to schedule an evaluation appointment. The surgeon will likely have a few requirements prior to scheduling surgery. Most of them will be to make sure you are healthy enough for surgery: blood work, pulmonary clearance/sleep apnea test, Upper GI/endoscopy, EKG, PCP clearance, cardiologist clearance. Not all surgeons require all of those. It depends on the surgeon and your individual co-morbities. Many surgeons require a psych eval and may require you to attend pre-op support groups. Please do not rush from the first visit right to surgery. Take your time, do your research, make sure you really understand what changes you will need to make to your eating habits and your lifestyle. IMO the posters that come to this board shortly after surgery and are surprised about how hard it is, don't know about the 3 week stall, don't really know what they are supposed to be eating/not eating are normally the ones that saw the surgeon and a couple of weeks later are having surgery. As much as I was impatient with the 6 month supervised diet and the pre-op clearances it gave me the time to really start my new habits early. It gave me time to spend on Bariatric Pal reading about what worked and didn't work for people. It gave me time to really think about the whole process and how i was going to have to change my life to make this work. I don't have children so I don't have that complication. But having small children and needing to cook for them, shuttle them around, clean up after them while you are trying to heal and change your eating habits may make it harder. Your kids and husband are not going to want to drink that Protein shake with you. You may need to be cooking them food you shouldn't be eating. Having the time to really process that mentally before the surgery is a good thing. I don't want to seem like I am trying to dissuade you. I am not. This surgery was the best thing I have ever done for me. I am saying take your time to learn and to research. Go to a couple of different surgeons/practices. Find the one you are comfortable with. Don't pick the first one you go to because you are impatient to get on with your new life and your new you. I think insurance companies or surgeon's practices that have no pre-op requirements can be setting many patients up for failure. (Somehow Mexico is different since that is a different model altogether.) -
Consider pain medication and swelling. You will lose, promise. I'm 10 weeks post op and down almost 50 as of today, also had the week 3 stall last about 3 weeks... It'll happen. Sent from my iPhone Im at my 3 week stall too Sent from my LGMS631 using the BariatricPal App

I am going through the 3 week stall!!!! Glad I know it's normal!!! I am trying to eat every 2 hours and up my protein to help my weight loss. And I finally started to walk a little. -
Hi there! Congratulation on getting through surgery. You are likely in the midst of the 3 week stall which is very common. It would be helpful to know your current diet, Water intake and Protein intake. Are you getting a minimum of 64 oz. of fluids every day? That is the number 1 most important factor post surgery following by ensuring you are getting the appropriate protein. You should have 1 gram for every inch you are tall. If you are hitting both of those goals every day and sticking to a well balanced high protein lower carb (veggies & Fruit) you will lose weight. It is nearly impossible not to. Most people do not understand the importance of water and protein until they get stuck and then they start hitting those goals and the weight comes off. Best of luck to you.
