Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

This is the first time EVER in my lifetime I have not only lost weight over the holidays (the scale finally budged from a 3 week stall) but also I am feeling energized, enthusiastic and ready for 2013!! I have a goal to try and loss 9 pounds by the end of January... I want to be in Onederland so badly! Is this realistic?
  2. High/Surgery weight: 227 (July-3-12) Current weight: 174 Spring goal: 157 End Goal: 137 Height: 5'2" I am in a 3 week stall ugh... So I hope I'm not shooting for too high of a goal.
  3. I bought a knock-off of a bullet at Aldis for $18 and its awesome. Works great for blending 1-2 cups of food at a time. Sleeved 12/11 and on puree now. Initially lost 22lbs but at the 3 week stall now.

    3 weeks post-op

Hey this was the exact path I took. I was sleeved 12/5 at 277. 12/20 at 2 week visit I weighed 257lbs. The I started purée I went up to 261. I am at 260 this am. There is a lot of threads on here about 3 week stall guess that is what has got us. I am going to try eating every three hours starting tomorrow because some on here suggest that will help metabolism. I know it is frustrating and seems like the scale will not move but it will sooner or late. Best advice I have been given is to stop weighing everyday although I still do it is good advice LOL! Also look at inches loss. If you don't currently track this begin it will surprise you.

  7. Thanks. I keep hearing about a 3 week stall but not this early. I don't want to have a 2 week AND a 3 week. I was liking dropping weight every day
  8. It's not only possible. It's normal. Read the link in my sig. Many people experience the 3 week stall. It's nothing to worry about. It will pass.

    Not losing weight

I went through that 3 weeks stall as well but it seems I hit another stall. I was sleeved on 11/15/12 I weighed in at 311 and I got down to 288 but it seems that I gain 4lbs then lose those same 4lbs. I asked my doctor about it but he said it happens and I will get passed it but boy is it discouraging.

    Not losing weight

Your calories are low and you're getting your protein and water. I'm going to agree with everyone else that you're just in your 3 week stall. It happened to me too. I was loosing weight like crazy, then nothing for a few days, then it started to come off again.

2 weeks post op-- and stalled?

I'm in the middle of mostly a 3 week stall. I'm 0-3-0 for the last 3 weeks. It's going to happen. Mostly your body is adjusting, and you are going into starvation mode. My nut is on my case to eat something every 2 hours, and I am trying but mostly just forget to do so. It will turn around. Just hang with it.

    My new Journey

Welcome Rocio, your journey so far has been fast. Did you do a lot of research first, if you did not have time then use this site to get answers to questions. There is a search facility and lots of answers - you will find that the same questions come up on a regular basis. I would suggest that you look at the following to get started 3 week stall Depression after surgery/buyers remorse What to eat on purée/soft diet stage If you do have any questions then just post them and you will find that there are lots of helpful people on this site who have lots of experience. There is one thing I would urge you to do and tat is to take your measurements, you will find periods when the scale does not move and when this happens recheck your measurements and you will find you have lost inches. Also claim this weigtloss journey for yourself and do not try to compare yourself to others and their weigtloss, you will ALWAYS find someone who loses faster than you and if you compare yourself it is easy to get down. Your body will lose weight at the rate that is best for you - keep on mind that your journey may take longer than you think. Again welcome, this is a brilliant site. Cathy
  16. I just heard about a week 3 stall on weight loss, is that true? I have been at the same weight for about 10 days and am just wondering.
  17. Deedee- that's good news. So it was a combo water retention & the 'dreaded 3 week stall.' I hope that things have gotten better or will get better soon. Hang in there!
  18. I must say I'm a little taken aback by the number of posts I've read on this forum recently by people who seem genuinely surprised that you can gain weight after having surgery. Whether it be Water retention during that first month (3 week stall) or simply 9 months down the line and someone is eating crappy foods and not following their plan anymore....it is most certainly possible. In fact, no matter what type of WLS you have, a person who is determined can eat around it. This is why most of us are forced to have a psych eval and see a NUT several times before surgery...so we understand this is not fool proof. This is not meant to be a criticism of anyone here. My real concern is why aren't your doctors and NUTs driving these points home with you before surgery? My surgeon made me sign a document stating I understood I had to eat right and exercise for the rest of my life or the surgery wasn't going to help me. If I could say one thing to everyone it would simply be that the surgery will not do everything for you. You have to eat the right things, and you need to exercise. The sleeve helps initially. But as time goes by the sleeve does less and less, and you have to do more. The people I've seen here who have been successful are those that embraced those changes and learned better eating habits while they were still in the honeymoon phase, so when their capacity to eat increased they made better, healthier choices and maintained their goal weight.

    Stalled at 7 weeks out

I just went through a 3 week stall, I know exactly how you feel. Make sure you are getting all your protein and water in, I have a real hard time with both. I have lost 4 lbs. since the stall in the last week. Hang in there, it will pass, stick to your routine and you shouldn't have any problem. When did you have your surgery, mine was Oct. 30 and I have lost 28 lbs.
  20. Is this normal? I'm 3 months post op and haven't lost anything in almost 3 weeks??? Eating 3 meals a day, should I cut down??
  21. Webchickadee

I choose the right surgery. Right?

Our stats are similar (I was 319 lbs pre-op and I am approx. 5'4"). I have lost 104 lbs in 7 months and I'm still dropping. I just went through a 3 week stall, but the weight loss has started again and I'm just "keeping on". My goal weight is 135 lbs and I have NO DOUBT I will make that goal. You will over time change many things about your lifestyle (if you're committed to making and staying at goal). Mostly because it just feels right! Eating healthy (Protein first, veg next and carbs last, if there's room!), exercising (it will become a great habit and you'll miss it if you don't get your workouts in!), not needing most or all of your meds any more, fitting into "normal" clothing and being able to shop wherever you want (and finding your size on the rack!). Your surgeon is probably quoting "average" statistics to help moderate your expectations (and perhaps even lessen the chances of you blaming him if you're not successful, by making you shoot for an easier target!). He/she is quoting the generally accepted medical average loss for ALL VSG patients. So that includes the ones who were non-compliant with their post-op diets, didn't exercise and did not follow post-op instructions, etc. I don't think there is any reason why someone who is generally healthy, follows the post-op diet and exercises can't lose 100% of the excess weight they wish to lose. It just takes discipline, sweat and focus. All without messing with your intestines, having to take supplements for the rest of your life and possibly experiencing dumping syndrome, etc. I like my Pylorus valve where it is, thank you very much! And I WANT to absorb all my nutrition. That being said, each decision is highly personal and everyone is entitled to their choice and opinion. If you've done the research and feel comfortable with your decision to do the sleeve rather than the by-pass, don't let generic stats (even from your surgeon) dissuade you! If there are other health reasons he has for thinking you would benefit more from the bypass, have him explain it in detail, then reaffirm your choice and move forward!

    weight loss slowed

Read the link in my sig about stalls. You are getting to the point where you are likely to hit the 3 week stall. That's okay and perfectly normal. Do not try to reduce calories or delay moving on to the next phase because you are afraid of gaining weight. At this point in your journey your calories are so severely reduced if you do not start eating food eventually your body could go into starvation mode and that will really hinder your weight loss efforts.
  23. Butterthebean

    Frustrated as hell!

I would say do a search on the 3 week stall, but you will be reading all night. Just read the link in my sig. You have hit the inevitable stall that most people hit in their first month. Don't fret and don't change anything. Certainly do not cut out your protein shakes. They do not make you fat. Keep drinking and walking and take 2 weeks off from weighing yourself. Start measuring yourself instead. Soon the weight will be falling off.
  24. I have been having some nausea lately, but I am still trying out new foods. I hit the dreaded 3-week stall and thought a couple if times about throwing the scale through a window. But, the stall is over now and including my preop diet, I'm down 40 pounds!!! I have had a recent flare up of my kidney stones, but besides that I haven't felt this good in a long time. My back doesn't hurt, my knees and ankles don't crack and grind any more. I can't believe it has already been 1 month!!! I was so excited to break 300 and now I'm melting away day by day!!!!
  25. Butterthebean

how long does a stall typically last?

It's different for everybody. But take heart, cause when it breaks the scale will plummet. Check out the link in my sig...it has some good info about stalls. The 3 week stall is one you really can't do much about but wait it out. But that's okay. Just be patient and it will move.
