    help with my protein?????

that's great to know- thanks! Do you find that if you add the protein to thicker stuff - yogurt; sugar free pudding that the taste isn't too obvious ( for the "no taste" protein

Sleeved on Jun 20/2013...lost & sad.

Boiled eggs are a waste of calories and sleeve space. Not enough protein .Research before you put anything in your mouth. I live on greek yogurt 14-15 gr of protein. Tilapia, chicken, red meat. Cottage cheese is high in protein. Special K PROTEIN PLUS cereal 1/2 cup with 1/2 cup Carbmaster milk. I don't have space for veggies or bananas in my sleeve. No protein? I won't eat it. Water? Yes, but not as much cause I forget to drink it. I take my Bariatric advantage vitamins and 1 iron pill every day. I am not doing ANY excersise but to walk from my cubicle to the mail room a few times per day. I've lost 35 lbs in 8 weeks. Ps: I take Wellbutrin. What is depression again? You gotta take something. See a doctor. Get serotonin levels up baby. Check your thyroid levels. You'll feel great.

    Frustrated

Hi all! I am new to this group. I'm sure this question has been answered before but I just need some reassurance. I am 51 years old and had the gastric bypass on 3/5/18. As of today I have lost over 50 pounds in 6 weeks. A few weeks ago I tried eating the soft food stage. I tried cottage cheese, yogurt, canned tuna, soups, etc. I would eat and it would feel like it was stuck and then I would have a severe pain in my stomach. It felt like the food wasn't going down. I would then throw it back up. I saw my doctor and I had an upper GI done and minor surgery to widen my esophagus. That was 2 weeks ago. I am still having the same issue. I feel week, have headaches and have no energy. I want to starting exercising but am afraid that I will pass out. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks! Cindy S.

New bandster - need help with drinking...

Hey Lauren, I was banded tuesday and know exactly what you are talking about.. the only thing I have been following is what the nutritionist told me.. about 2-4 oz of full liquids three times a day.. and sip Water at 2-4 oz per hour in between meals.. trying to add up to 32. oz a day. i know that feeling you are talking about.. but i think if we stick to this.. next week we will be better... also, i think they said it takes 30 min to feel full.. so take a few oz.. then wait about 15-25 min and see how you feel.. I hope this helps.. my doc said fat free suger free pudding is ok.. but in small portions.. maybe try yogurt? or what my plan is to dilute the cream of wheat single packages with water.. and mix in some protien powder and have a few oz. of that.. better than broth! Take care

    Banded On 1/31 ... 2 Weeks Liquids

YogaChick If my liquid diet was like yours I'm sure I would be fine as well. I am actually only allowed 3 shakes per day made with water and unlimited non caloric liquids. No berries, bananas, yogurt and certainly no meals.

    Nine days post-op

Hanging head.... No, Jessica, but it is helping my headache. And I counted the calories that I'm getting in daily, and with the Isopure, Premere Protein, greek yogurt, cream soup, and other fat free, sugar free things, I'm still only getting about 700 calories per day. I'm open to your thoughts.

    Post diet question

My NUT didn't give me a carb total yet at this point. I was told 60-70 grams of protein at 1/4 - 1/2 per meal. I could do 1/4 - 1/3 protein then 1-2 tbs of cooked non fibrous veggies. I would say most of the carbs I get are from the tiny bit of veggies or the natural carbs in milk. With that said I'm going back to Almond milk and adding in greek yogurt to my shakes to lower those carbs. My personal goal is to keep my carbs low and have them come from veggies. To many carbs is what got me here to begin with. That all being said everyone is very different and I say go with what works for you and your weight loss goals.

    Normal foods

Awesome topic. I've been wondering about the things i've read too. Several people saying they eat ANYTHING they want, just smaller portions. Honestly, it would be nice maybe 8months to a year down the mine to be able to have a cup of chow mein or a slice of pizza here and there, but as of now, i think its most important to train myself to eat well. I havent had a cheeseburger in almost 3 months and i'm amazed at how I dont crave it anymore. Im actually craving hummus and greek yogurt. Lol i'm almost 20days post op and if I start thinking I might be able to slide in chips or dessert soon then it's going to create a slippery slope. I know myself lol anyway, best of luck to everyone!

I Think I am Addicted to Sugar

Hi. I love sweets, too. My new substitute for candy and sugar is dried fruit. It's got fiber and vitamins and is very sweet. Nonfat, sugar-free yogurt is another sweet treat that is healthy. Sorry about the job situation. You really should find something new. We spend so much of our life at work that it's really important to find something you like. Nancy
  10. First off- I am 6 weeks post op banding. I have 3 ccs in a 10cc band, put in at time of surgery. I am Just wondering about getting something stuck. Thursday night (3 1/2 days ago) I accidently took a handful of pills all at once. How dumb! I knew as soon as I started to swallow I was in trouble. Well, since then I haven't had much of an appetite. I did have some pain between my breast a couple days. I am trying to eat but nothing sounds good. I have only been eating yogurt and scrambled eggs with melted cheese. That and warm Water is about the only thing that sounds good. Oh and I had some cream of wheat. Here it is Monday and I still have no appetite. My stomach feels "jittery" at times, if that makes sense. The pain has subsided. I just feel so weak. I do have an appointment with the surgeon day after tomorrow. They had planned on doing a fill, but I say NO! I don't think they would anyway with me feeling the way I do. My question is does this sound what others have gone through after getting something stuck? When the band slips you throw up right? Or can't get food down? Thanks

    Iceland Yogurt

Siggi's is my favorite brand Mango Jalapeno is my favorite when I can find it, followed by Orange Ginger and Coconut. Skyr is also the name for the style of yogurt. If you are looking to try new kinds of yogurt also look at the Noosa brand, their stuff is really good albeit not quite as protein dense as some others.

    Soft Food Phase Ideas?

I eat beans, refried beans, Tuna light in water, canned chicken, eggs, cottage cheese. I dont blend anything because I think you are supposed to start chewing but that just my opinion. Greek yogurt is good and has protein, sf pudding. I mix my protein mix with jello instant pudding cups.

    Anyone banded june 2008?

Hi Bandded, I was banded June 4, 2008. Look at it this way . . . 5 pounds is 5 pounds and it's 5 pounds less than you weighed before. Have you ever SEEN the volume of 5 pounds of fat? They used to show us what 5 pounds of fat looked like at the old Jenny Craig meetings. It's actually quite significant. I've lost a fairly significant amount of weight, but some of that was pre-op preparation, some was the actual pre-op liquid diet, and then my doctor had a very conservative and strict post-op liquid diet that I HATED at the time, but I did it, I survived, and it really helped my weight loss. I noticed that some people that were allowed mushies a lot sooner than I did noticed a slower pace to their loss because it's hard to find protein-filled mushies. I am also on a mission. I workout like a madwoman and I log every morsel of food into thedailyplate.com. Now, some people will say that the band is supposed to eliminate the whole "on a diet" mentality . . . but for me, it is just easier to endure when it goes faster and when I can make it my mission in life to lose the weight. I didn't want to wait to get to my sweet spot. I didn't want to wait for my 3rd or 4th fill. I wanted the weight off NOW. So, I stick to 1200 calories a day, most of them Protein filled. I exercise for AT LEAST 50 minutes a day if not more. I'm also really careful to recognize that yogurts and smoothies go down a lot easier than chicken . . . so I'm VERY careful about that stuff. But how has it been going for you? Are you exercising? Have you had any fills? I think getting the fills is crucial. I've only had one, but my doc was quite aggressive. I had 2 ccs at surgery time and he added 3 ccs (in a 10cc band) in July. I think I get .5 ccs at my next apptmt. Oh, and to clarify, I am 5'7", my starting weight was 263, on the day of surgery I was 247, and I'm down to 217.5 as of today.
  14. Do you have a hard time swallowing pills??? I sure as heck did with lots of pain and feelings of them getting stuck, until I remembered how my Grandma used to take her pills everyday. They always made her gag since they were too big, never seemed to go down all the way and she said they hurt going down. Put the pill on the back of your tongue and take with a little bite of yogurt. You can do the same with Cream of Wheat, oatmeal, Pudding or Applesauce. It works wonders!!! Promise! Try it for yourself!

Tips for not drinking after eating?

I too struggled with the idea of not drinking while eating, it is not only a habit, it is part of the dining experience. Who wants to eat and have a dry mouth? I tried it at first and found that certain foods drove me crazy without a drink (like salty foods). What I do is I wait until I am almost done before I start, but I eat yogurt AFTER I have eaten my protein and most everything else so it cant run through, it has to stay on top. I find that Yoplait Whips are best for this because they are airy not liquidy so I think it should be ok. Just be careful, some of them are addicting. Their new Vanilla Creame' whips are OMG so good and bad. They are not that good since the protien to calories is not what they recommend. I stick to the Fry's carbmasters in the morning (12 protein for oly 80 calories). I figure one of those in the morning should help me satisfy my thirst and keep me satisfied during mid morning, but after dinner I go for the whips, they are mostly air, so they dont wash through the pouch, but sadly, they are 160 calories for 5 grams of protein But they are sooooooooooo yummy. The strawberry are very good to. The chocolate are okish, not worth the calories. Hope that helps XOXO

    Full Liquids

I am three days post-op and doing very well! Today is my second day of full liquids. So far I have been able to tolerate some yogurt and chocolate Protein drink made with milk. I am hoping to try some creamy Soup later today. I am in love with chicken broth; I am sure it is just the salt content that is making it taste so darn great! I am on a liquid Vitamin and oh man it is disgusting! But I choke it down followed by a bit of apple juice. What is everyone else sipping on?

    Greek Yogurt

I actually tried the Greek yogurt for the first time tonight and was pleasantly surprised. I took my dietitian's advice and added a shot or two of the MIO drink mix to mine. It was very doable. I want to try the ranch mix, though, now! Gotta hold off until I can have raw veggies again.
  18. What did the liver shrinking portion of the diet consist of? I have been on a 3 week pre-op diet. Surgery next Wednesday. Consisted of protein shakes and 1 lite protein meal a day. Chicken and fish, salad. Greek yogurt, applesauce. Strawberries, and oatmeal. Been difficult but doable.

    Needing Breakfast ideas

I too need "on the go" breakfasts. I DO NOT eat yogurt. I have tried every brand, flavor and concoction out there and do not like it. So that is a problem. I am so jealous that you guys eat bread like things. I have not tried and am afraid that if it goes down ok, I will have a whole other issue to deal with. eggs don't pack well, not cleared for cereal. I was having 2 laughing cow (light) wedges on melba toast, but that does not have enough Protein or substance, though I like that a lot. Any suggestions will be welcomed! Thanks Hale for letting me tag on your post.

    Needing Breakfast ideas

How about making a breakfast borrito the night before and in the morning you can nuke it for a miniute and run out the door. 1 small south beach diet tortilla scrambled agg whites / no fat cheddar 2 slices of turkey bacon wrap it in surran and you are ready to go the next morning! Plan ahead! I also like whole oatmeal...just soak it in no fat milk or yogurt overnight in a tupperwear, by morning its tender and yummy, eat it cold or hot...no "cooking" required!

    Mushies early?

I was having potato soup, yogurt, mashed potatoes and farina Cereal by the end of the first week. Not very much at a time, but enough to make me feel better. I mainly followed the Cornell University guidelines. http://www.cornellweightlosssurgery.org/pdf/dietary_guidelines_sleeve_gastrectomy.pdf Everyone is different. I certainly wouldn't over do it or add anything too substantial. Listen to your body and act accordingly.
