  1. I got my first fill yesterday. 2 cc's. It felt weird. I was starving and liquids weren't cutting it. I ate some yogurt to make the hunger stop. Today the Protein powder and frozen chunks of banana are getting me through to lunch. Patience is the name of this particular game... my next fill is in 6 more weeks.

    Having Trouble....

Chances are at this stage your solid foods will be mushy - apple sauce, mashed potatoes, anything blended (my dietician said one person put a bacon cheeseburger into a blender), things that can be mashed with a fork like peas, yogurt, cottage cheese. Be careful transitioning - you really should avoid fried/battered food like LJS - the battering is just hollow calories and you get less Protein when you eat stuff like that because it fills your limited stomach space.
  3. It appears you are still in the mushy stage??? If so, try and focus on lower calorie soft foods. I have not eaten potatoes since my surgery 8 months ago because they are too fattening. You can eat oatmeal with some Protein powder added to boost the Protein. Fat free Greek yogurt is very high in protein. You can have cottage cheese, beans-excellent, low cal source of protein. Get creative. Make some home made chili for the cold days.
  4. Good idea!! I am 2 1/2 weeks post op so I am in bandster hell right now, but still trying to stick to eating well. Breakfast--2 egg whites, 1 egg yolk Lunch--1/2 turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread and applesauce Dinner--grilled tilapia, and half of a bacon potato with ff sour cream I didn't add the calories up but from all of the weight watcher days, I know I'm good. Tonight I will either have a ff fudgesicle or yogurt.
  5. Meat just isn't really agreeing with me and right now I'm eating mostly beans, cheese, Greek yogurt. Any vegetarians that can give me an idea of how they've been doing since surgery. I'm 2 months post-op.

    August Sleeves?!

Started at 233 DOS 8/30 & down to 210 for total loss of 23 lbs...of course 10 of that at least is water weight but I feel great anyway! Those who I've talked to say they hit there goals anywhere between 8 to 12 months do dropping 23 in 2 1/2 weeks is well on my way to total goal of losing 83 lbs...now I only have 60 to go. Woo hoo! Still on purée but not getting down much been busy & forgetting to eat or drink (which I NEVER would have forgotten to eat before lol) I don't notice till I start feeling weak or get dry mouth...sick of protein shakes yuck. Yesterday I had a yogurt & glass of water & a flintstone vitamin. Thinking of getting a juicer & getting a good portion of my nutrition that way. Gonna try scrambled eggs this next week...sounds really good to me Don't want my hair to fall out

    August Sleeves?!

Had my sleeve on August 28th. I lost 10 pounds from my five day liquid diet. As of today I have lost a total of 27 pounds. I am very happy so far. My diet is soft foods, but have no problems with tender chicken, cheese, beans, Greek yogurt, shrimp, eggs. Glad I got "sleeved"! Good luck everyone.
  9. Okay so I just found something that may help me and others in the purée stage with getting fiber. Oikos yogurt has 3g per serving. I don’t love Greek yogurt but I checked mine and it has none (my husband had the Greek stuff and he pointed it out) so I added a packet of Splenda and it’s isn’t super horrible that way. Tastes better than milk of magnesia. I read that we should try to get 5G per 1000 calories so I am gonna try to get one of those in a day and hopefully that will help.
  10. I also had really intense constipation for the first month after the sleeve. I took Benefiber and stool softeners and drank 90 oz of water a day, but I still had long bouts of painful constipation (5 days or more). At my one month check-in with the nutritionist, she told me it was fine to use Milk of Magnesia every other day prophylactically until I started getting more plant fiber in my diet. She also told me to add chia seeds to my Greek yogurt. This worked for that second month and, now 2.5 months out, I am able to eat more veggies and not taking the Milk of Magnesia anymore and am totally regular lol. TL;DR In my experience, getting enough fiber gets easier every week. Talk to your surgeon or nutritionist about Milk of Magnesia. My nutritionist didn't want people relying on it indefinitely, but was fine with me using it very regularly for a month until I started getting more fiber.

    Pureed Foods

Blended soups Milk sugar-free blended yogurt Sugar-free hot cocoa Carnation instant Breakfast Sugar-free fudgesicle Sugar-free pudding C ooked Cereal (oatmeal, Grits, Cream of Wheat, Farina) Dry cereal with fat free milk-soggy Dannon Lite and Fit creamy yogurt (like a drinkable smothie on the go) Low-fat cottage cheese (small curd) chicken, Tuna, salmon, crab, Egg, salads made with (low-fat mayo) premade crab cakes Mashed potatoes Unsweetened applesauce Soft cooked/scrambled eggs Canned fruit in its own juice Sugar-free Jell-O Soft cooked vegetables Soups should be non-chunky. Low-fat cream soups or pureed low-fat soups like Healthy Choice. (I bought a little food processor at Wal Mart for $14 from Black and Decker. You can just add any delicious soup and puree it) Add tasteless Protein powder to boost protein in soups. canned fruit in their own juice (no pineapple) and baby fruit, V-8 juice. ****Avoid overeating/vomiting at all costs. Both may cause slippage of the band and send you back to the operating room. Eat slowly and chew foods until they are a mushy/thin consistency. Work your way slowly up to ¼-1/2 cup of food meals. Do not eat pieces of food that are too large and can block the stomach opening (avoid thick meats and soft breads, opening of the stoma is the size of a dime). Stop eating when satisfied and comfortable not when overly full. Overeating can cause the pouch to stretch prematurely and may cause vomiting. This may also cause a slip of the band and require surgery. Eat three meals a day and consume protein with each meal. Consume one Protein shake (ex: 1/2 cup a few times a day if needed for extra protein) Always read food labels for low fat, the sugar rule, and high Fiber. Make sure you journal so you can keep track of what you are eating so you can let your doctor know. Also, you don't want to exceed 1,000-1200 a day. Also, what was happening to me, was that I was not getting enough Water, cyrstal light so my body was really thirsty not hungry. When I upped the water intake, my hunger pangs went away. I hope this helps!!! Audree:clap2:

Struggles with Living Away From Home

I guess I would have to learn to like seafood or food raise my own chickens. Do you have a modern kitchen? What is your set-up? What kind of market is available? You said that food choices are good, so I suppose that you can get seafood, lamb, chicken, maybe turkey? What kind of veggies are available to you? Can you get peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, zuchinni, carrots, sunchokes, mushrooms, greenbeans? Surely you can get yogurt and cheeses? I am somewhat familiar with Maltese cooking, which has Turkish, Mediterranean and Arabian influences. Let us know what equipment and grocery items you have access to. Do you take your lunch, eat at a cafeteria, or bring food from home? How big is your refrigerator? You can also PM me.
  13. That's a great suggestion Tiffy. For today, my meals will be Fage yogurt to try to up my good bacteria. I'm sure that being on antibiotics pre-op didn't help keep good flora growing. I think I just need to wait it out but I've decided to eat the yogurt instead of going back to clear fluids again. I'm starting to get a little hungry today. I wonder if that's because I had 1/4 cup yogurt this morning.
  14. I am 26 years old, 5"10 and I have a desk job. I am not very active. I didn't have a pre-op diet and I weighed in at 343. A month after surgery I weighed 318. Totaling a 25 pound loss. I followed my liquid/jello/sugar free pudding/protein drink diet for 2 weeks. Around day 9 I had about 1/3 of an omelette and some mashed potatoes, then I progressed and had yogurt, cottage cheese, Soups, etc. I have my first fill next week. I bought a nutrabullet and downloaded the "my fitness plan" app- they are some useful tools. Good luck!

    Work Lunch ideas?

Yesss, love this! ^^^ Here's my typical menu at work: Morning commute - this guy: https://www.amazon.com/Protein2o-Low-Calorie-Protein-Infused-16-9-Ounce/dp/B01GQ5HBGI/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1521227525&sr=8-3&keywords=protein%2Bwater&th=1 (Tastes a little like feet, but once you get used to it - it's not horrible.) Breakfast - 0%, 100 Calorie Greek yogurt cup Mid-morning snack - hard boiled egg or this guy: https://www.amazon.com/Oh-Yeah-Birthday-Cake-12/dp/B0171F2HL6/ref=sr_1_3_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1521228100&sr=1-3&keywords=one%2Bbar%2Bbirthday%2Bcake&th=1 *Lunch - 1/4 c. cottage cheese and tuna pouch. The herb & garlic and ranch flavors are delish! (I know it sounds gross together, but this is kinda like a mock-tuna salad and you don't miss the mayo. Add grapes, apples or green onion if you wanna get fancy.) Afternoon snack - hard boiled egg, raw almonds or LF string cheese *Dinner - protein slab (beef filet, fish fillet, chicken) and veggies if there's room *Not sure what options you have at your local grocery store, but mine has pre-made, healthy meals that are actually TWO servings for my new tummy! I'll usually eat half of one of these babies for dinner and then bring the rest to work for lunch, or vice versa. **Be careful with hummus - it's actually not a good source of protein... ***Most important - PLAN AHEAD!!! If you're unprepared, you'll grab the first thing you see; and at the office, that will RARELY be a protein-rich option. You got this!

    Advice needed- Regaining weight

I understand where you're coming from. I too become hungry when I'm sick (except a stomach virus) and tend to eat more comfort foods and I was sick A LOT this past winter/spring. I'm only 11 months out, but around 9 months I remember one week putting on 5 pounds in about 1.5 weeks. I let myself get into some old habits...one week I ate out everyday and grazed on a lot of snack foods for all my other meals. I didn't gain anything, so I just continued, but the next 1.5 weeks (although I did start to get a little better) I noticed the scale start moving slowly upwards. I cut back on the eating out (completely stopped going out for lunch at work), decided to buy some healthier Snacks (granola bars, yogurt, fruit--as I don't tend to crave these as much and will stop when full), and just started taking more notice of what and when I ate. I decided that if I continued to go up in pounds, I'd go back to low carb and/or measuring foods/counting calories, etc., but really didn't want to feel like I was on a diet. I just tried to do what I thought a "normal" person would do in this situation and it worked. Good luck getting back on track! That's just one thing I love about this tool...it's still there when we need it. Oh, by the way, I too seem to be able to eat a lot more than others mention on here. I also never truly lost my hunger either. So I guess we're all different.

    Typical day on full liquids?

I start in the morning with 22 oz of plain water, once I finish that I start sipping on an 11 oz can of protein shake which usually takes me at least an hour, then I start sipping on half Isopure Alpine Punch and half water throughout the rest of the day, it usually takes me the rest of the day to finish the bottle of Isopure. Then in between I'll have 4 oz ounces of yogurt, soup, or pudding. All together it is usually about 70 oz of fluids and 80 grams of protein. My pouch is really small (so my doctor tells me) so I can take in about 1 oz of fluid every 10 minutes, which means I am literally sipping something from the time I wake up until I go to sleep.

    5 month post op diet

My surgeon Dr. Marema has instructed me to be eating 700-800 calories at seven weeks out post op. A typical day for me is getting up at 730 having some hot tea with milk and a small teaspoon of sugar, a babybel cheese and a fruit cup of peaches at 9, a protein shake at 11, two ounces of deli meat with a small tomato at one, tuna salad with a couple slices of cucumber at four then my yogurt with a tapioca pudding no sugar added at seven thirty. This obviously changes from day to day but just wanted to give an example

    5 month post op diet

Good morning! My surgery date was 1-12-2015. I eat around 550-750 calories a day. I make a point to try and eat every 3 hours. My pouch is picky, so there are a few staples that I have. I usually make a batch of chili or buffalo chicken in the crock pot. Then I portion it into 1.5 oz containers and freeze it. The buffalo chicken I usually it with a small salad. I also eat the Morningstar farms spicy bean burgers. I can't say that I love them, but I can tolerate it. I can't eat a full bean burger. I can do about 3/4. Sadly, I am still supplementing most of my Protein with shakes. Here's a sample menu of what my day looks like: 7 am: lite and fit vanilla yogurt flavored with sugar free raspberry syrup 10 am: 100 calorie bag of roasted edamane (from sprouts) 12:30 buffalo chicken with salad 1:30 1/2 bottle of protein h2o Water 3:00 premier Protein shake 5:30 veggie burger patty with slice of cheese on it 8:00 100 calorie popcorn (bad habit I need to stop) or 1/2 peeled apple I have asked my nutritionist about how many calories I should be consuming and she tells me not to worry about that. She wants me to focus on getting 60-70 grams of protein daily. I hope I was able to help you. Good luck on your journey!

had adjustable lap- port is hurting

Hi Bullit - I hope your port area is feeling better. My port is about 4" under my left boob, seems low to me - I hope it doesn't drift to my thigh as I get thinner! Yes, I also felt weak the 1st two weeks or so - our bodies are in shock, and having hardly any carbs or calories does make you weak, that too gets better as our bodies adjust, adding just a bit of soft foods (tofu, hummus, yogurt) has helped me. Are you drinking your protein? You should try and get at least 60 gms a day. I've been doing pretty good on drinking my water, and you will find as your post op swelling goes down it is easier to swallow, though I think the post op swelling gives us a feel as to what a fill will feel like (?) I know when I go back to work, next week, getting all my water in will be harder to do. I was banded in Mexico (DR. Rumbaut) and have my follow up/fill Dr. Fox, not too far from me in Tacoma. Hang in there - We are doing great!!!

    When Did U Feel 100%

Oh, sweetie, me too! I am constantly fighting heartburn and I dread eating. I'm almost a month out ( July 9 surgery). Soup is a lifesaver, but it still hurts. I take Rx omeprezole or Prilosec daily and that really helps me at night. Try some frozen Greek yogurt. Helps with the heat and you get more protein. It's new in the ice cream case at the supermarket. Just know that you're not alone in feeling poopy. I don't visit this site too often, but I came here because I'm feeling the same way. I'm afraid almost of eating and I hate that. I really believe we will feel much better soon! Other things to try...a slug of pepto bismal before you eat or drink, hot drinks in the am, and sorbets or icecream sprinkled with tasteless protein powder. Just watch out for killer yeast infections with eating sugary stuff what with your immune system low. Acidophilus milk should help with that a bit, as I had to remind myself yesterday. We're going to be okay. Right now just kinda stinks. I'm afraid this will last forever, but I'm down to 218 from 248 so it helps. And my brain knows it cant last forever. We can do this!
  25. I am going to be completely honest. In the beginning, I was counting my calories and making sure that I stayed between 1000 and 1200 a day. The last couple weeks I have been lazy about it, but I am still losing. Here are some things I eat. Breakfast During the week (M-F), I have a Protein shake (EAS Carb Control) and some sort of fruit or a Fiber 1 bar. Weekends, I usually have a cup of Koshi Go Lean Cereal with 1/2 cup of skim milk or Weight Control oatmeal lunch This varies...last week, I had turkey and cheese on wheat bread with mustard. This week I am going to have a salad with chicken breast. Sometimes I have Laughing Cow Cheese with 6 reduced fat crackers and a yogurt. I could have yogurt and a string cheese. dinner Some ideas...1/2 of a chicken breast with a cup of veggies, a turkey burger with cheese, chili, Soup, Chicken Parm. I do not deny myself food either. If they have something at work, I eat it. If I dont, I find myself wanting it even more. I just eat an extremely small portion of it. I went to a birthday party for a kid and I had a cup cake. I go to dinner with my friends to the Olive Garden and Applebees. I just watch how much I consume. I drink Water and crystal light and sometimes Diet Snapple. Though I have wanted a Pepsi and I will have it. I do workout almost every day. 35 mins on the Wii. 35-45 mins of resistance training (weights, body ball or resistance band) and 30-45 mins of cardio I hope this is what you wanted. It is working for me, even though I do not follow all the rules. I do not have any Fluid, so I am able to eat basically anything. The PA in my office jokes with me telling me I wasted my money because I am basically doing this myself. I say it is the best $5 I ever spent!
