  1. Nana -- I was banded the same day as you and am facing the same boredom. Luckily my doc is a bit more liberal with the full liquids: anything thin enough to go through a straw, but no chunks. You can maybe call your doc and see if he/she can loosen up the restrictions a bit? Yesterday I tried mixing not-fat plain yogurt with fruit juice to make a kind of smoothie. It was much more interesting to drink than the Protein shakes. the mad frog lady.

    How much can you eat?

At three months I was still on soft foods and could eat about 1.5 oz of dense protein or 2 ounces of very soft food like yogurt. I remember going out to dinner and ate one medium-large sized scallop and could not take another bite. At six months I could eat about 2 ounces of dense protein such as chicken breast or turkey burger, Maybe 2.5 ounces of slightly moister meat such as grilled salmon. At a year out I could eat 3 ounces of dense protein. At 3+ years out I can eat 3 ounces of dense protein + 1.5 oz green veggies. High carb slider foods I can eat almost unlimited amounts, which is why I try very hard to just avoid them and not start -- because there is almost no stopping point. You cannot count on this surgery to restrict how many cookies or crackers you can eat -- at least not for long. Some people do keep that type of restriction, but many don't -- so don't count on it to keep you in line after the first several months.
  3. For me, I use Shaklee's Vanilla Soy Protein powder (15 protein gram sper service and mix with a high-protein yogurt (low fat/low carb: Stoneyfield or Dannon = 15 protein grams) to make a delicious shake - add ice and you are good to go.

    Purred foods?

I can't bare the thought either. I've been sticking to hummus, yogurt, cottage cheese, refried beans and mashed regular and sweet potatoes. If I need more protein I'll keep drinking shakes. A week is too short to resort to blended meat :-)

    Purred foods?

I've had no problem. My daughter bought me a book called Eating well after Weight Loss Surgery. It was written by a chef that also happened to have LapBand. The recipes are yummy. She has recommendations for each recipe as to when you can start it and guidelines about how much to purée and so forth. I made a turkey burger in which after grilling I cut in half and then puréed with a Greek yogurt sauce. The next day took the other half and puréed with BBQ sauce! It was very satisfying! Most recipes are broken down into LapBand, bypass and sleeve then broken down to week 1, 2, 3, 4...

    Random restriction...temperamental band!

Yes. I feel more restricted in the am. First food of the day takes me a bit. Sometimes I need to get up and walk around . Then some days. Like someone posted Yogurt is barely doable. Is it hydration ? I usually drink the same amount of water. Once I'm irritated it takes awhile to settle. Then back to life light!

    7 Days Pre-OP

I was banded 3/25/08, and put on liquid diet for 2 weeks prior (ended up being 3 weeks as I caught a cold and my surgery was postponed a week, not enough time to stop and start again, so I stayed on it another week). Up until 4 days before surgery I could have a small amount of lean protein, which I saved for the evening when I tended to overeat the most. I had either 2 hard cooked eggs with salt/pepper, or 2 unbreaded chicen tenders grilled with salt/pepper. For liquids I could have broth, clear or cream soups, protein drinks, fat/sugar free popsicles, fat/sugar free jello, yogurt, water, tea, coffee. I knew I would be hungry during the day, but my job is busy so I was able to ignore it. I found I do boring really well. Don't have to think too much about what is for dinner, just keep the freezer full of popsicles and the cabinet full of soups and broths. I even found a way to have cheese. If you heat tomato soup, and break up a couple slices of Kraft Fat Free cheese, it melts and you have cheesy tomato soup, a liquid. It really jump started my diet. I increased my exercise with walking and by surgery had lost 35 pounds. The rest has come of since then. Good luck with your surgery.:behindsofa:
  9. Yes...this definitely helps me! I am just shy of 3 weeks out, and so tired of pudding and yogurt and soup and protein drinks, I can't see straight!! I know that there is light at the end of the full-liquid tunnel, but it really helps to hear it again. Thanks!!

    getting enough protein.......

My doc has said 60-70 as well for protein intake. I plan 1 snack a day but again that was his instruction. I do have the unflavored protein powder from GNC. I do my best to get most of it via food .. eggs, quiche, tuna, cottage cheese greek yogurt however also add it to the cottage cheese, tuna, even DD ice tea.. it litterally has no flavor so I can make almost anything high in protein.

    getting enough protein.......

70? I guess different doctors recommend different amounts? My doctor said to shoot for 45 grams for non menstruating women and 55 for those who are menstruating. I eat a lot of chili - thats great protein! (large chili at wendy's has 28 grams) Also you can buy non flavored Protein powder at walmart and put it in anything...applesauce, yogurt, shakes, etc. I like to make a choc Peanut Butter shake with my herbalife choc mix, a tablespoon PB2 (powdered peanut butter - can use regular lowfat) and then add extra protein - it is like a heavenly chocolate dessert and I feel like I am getting something fabulous like dairy queen. LOL I use the vanilla herbalife shake and put in frozen fruit, skim milk, and extra Protein Powder, too. I know they tell us not to drink a lot of our protein - but I cannot eat more than a cup at a time and even then sometimes I can't eat much - so this is the only way I can get in my protein....and since I hit my "sweet spot" I am never hungry anyway... Good luck to you! Kim

    Diet/foods

Natalie, I use unflavored unjury powder in my oatmeal, soups, yogurt and make shakes with it. You can even add it to your veggies.
  14. Hi. I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I'm struggling with food. I am on the soft food phase, I follow the rules. I eat very slow and I take very small bites (the size of a pencil eraser) yet everything I eat gets stuck even yogurt and apple sauce. As you can imagine it's very uncomfortable. What can I do? Sent from my LG-H950 using the BariatricPal App
  15. I'm 4.5 months out I've lost 70lbs since surgery and total of 110lbs since I've started the program a year ago. I'm very happy but very scared of going back. Typical day 5 oz low fat yogurt with my crushed medicine. Protein shake about hour later. This is where I'm worried lunch I eat 6-8 oz low fat cottage cheese. I get my water and at least 2-3 protein shakes that's not my worry. Dinner 3/4 cup fish/chicken with salad. I'll sometimes swap lunch and dinner ,but the fact that I can eat 8 oz cottage cheese worries me. In between meals I'll sometimes eat a banana 3/4 of one. I've done this with minimal exercise plan on changing this very soon as weather gets better. Just very worried I can eat so much without sickness.

I'm 13 days out... Purée help!

Every doctor is different, but mine listed puréed foods as liquids that can pour out of a bowl. Some examples are strained or puréed soups, applesauce, blenderized soft or canned fruit, yogurt without fruit pieces (they recommended Yoplait light). Hope this helps!

    Liquid Diet Tips?

I made my own broth, the broth I make for chicken Soup. It is significantly tastier than that stuff from the can, or from a cube! I also occasionally used a low-cal, low-fat greek yogurt to make a smoothie instead of having aNOTHER Protein shake. It really helped. I like the Syntrex nectar whey protein isolate shake powders; they come in SO many different flavors. Really breaks up the boredom of the shakes.

    Day 3 Post Op

I was sleeved on the 24th and discharged on the 25th from Johns Hopkins. Getting in both fluids and Proteins has been a huge challenge due to acid reflux. I'm taking a 40 mg protonix in the morning and a 20 mg otc prilosec in the evening. Anyone else find something that works better? I only got in 24 oz of fluids today, but discovered I can tolerate sf popsicles and ice. It took me 2.5 hours to drink an 8 oz Protein shake. Greek yogurt and sf pudding goes down more easily. I only had one dose of pain meds today and am going to try and make that it so that i can maybe have a bm again someday. Can we take Colace yet? Sunday was awful, but Monday and Tuesday continued to improve.
  19. Hi I was sleeved may 30th and have lost about 35lbs and I am still not cleared for certain textured food, like anything hard, crunchy, crispy, crisp raw veggies, or generally scratchy (like pretzels) on the inside of your mouth. I am also not allowed any grains (my doc is specific on carbs and allowables to reach his goal of max 50 per day) or anything with lots of "membrane" tissue like eating actual orange/grapefruit slices, grape skins or raisins, fruit peels, popcorn or regular corn. My typical day looks like breakfast and first snack, one a Protein shake and one a greek yogurt. lunch I try to eat leftover meat from the night before but usually can only get in about 3 oz before i'm stuffed. Today I "treated" myself to a whole foods hot bar, $2.12 and delicious! I'm a cheap date now! I have not done great with the afternoon snack, most days just skip to dinner, where I'm eating only meat and like 1 tbsp of veggies. I am paranoid about losing hair because mine is fine to start so I'm trying to eat as much meat and cheese as possible. Problem is tiny tummy gets so full so fast on them. I have only been able to get in about 700-800 per day unless I start grazing on Peanut Butter, then it's all over. I use Bariactiv Vitamins, took them once on an empty stomach and threw them up but since then eat them mid breakfast and ok. Like the others, powdery and fruit flavored. I'm also on Iron, b12, and a ppi acid blocker

    Stomach growling??

I was also banded on 9/11- I have a hard time getting in the three protein shakes the doctor wants me to have. The doctor told me to do a half a cup of cream of wheat or grits for breakfast. 1 cup of protein shake mid morning. A half of cup of any cream soup for lunch (strained). A protein shake for the afternoon. And 4 oz of Greek yogurt with a teaspoon of protein shake mix and a teaspoon of sugar free jelly and then another protein shake in the evening. I feel like I'm constantly eating. Is this pretty similar to everybody else's menu?
  21. My doc does allow sf jello, sf pudding, Dannon fit & light Greek yogurt, ice pops...I just wish I could at least have a small salad included too.

    Portions Size What is yours?

I eat 3-4oz of lean protien, 1/2 cup of veggies and 1 serving of starch if I still have room which typically I don't. If I do it's typically like a 1/2 slice of toasted wheat bread or 1/4 c brown rice etc. If I'm hungry in between meals which some times I am I eat a healthy snack like a greek yogurt or 1-2 oz of cheese or something around 100 calories. Hope this helps! You're doing a great job! Congrats on your success!

    19g Mediterranean Feast!

From the album: Post-Op RNY 6/26/2014

Score! I bought a tube of dill paste from the fridge section near the vegetables. I squeezed some into greek yogurt, added 1 ounce of soy milk, and it made an incredible side to go with my dinner! Will work for fish, tuna, hard boiled eggs, etc. Makes a great helper for chewing. Today I ate Shwarma (chicken thighs) 3 oz @ 16g Greek Yogurt with Dill 1 oz @ 3g Vegetarian Moussaka. -- Although I am in the purees stage, I can no longer eat that texture. I will gag and starve. So I sad for an hour and chewed responsibly, and I got this meal in. Hurray.

    I am soo hungry

Maybe try adding nonfat plain greek yogurt to your shakes. It will definitely boost the protein.
  25. So I am on day 4 of my pre op liquid diet, and so far so good. I am allowed 3 Protein shakes a day, broth, SF jello(which I hate) and two 100 calorie yogurts a day. I have been eating everything but the Jello and I am so sick of broth!!!!! If I drink another cup of broth I might puke! Just want to know if anyone had any ideas on something I can add to my broth to give it a different taste? Really desperate and in need of help!!!
