So all my paperwork has been submitted to insurance last Friday 2/13. I'm nervous bc I weighed 284 at the initial weigh -in and at my last appointment on Friday I weighed in at 293. I've worked so hard this entire time to try to get the weight back to the original 284 but it's been such a struggle, the lowest I've gotten is 290. I've cut out carbs, eaten high protein, and drank about 120 oz of water a day. I've also been working out every day but he weight won't budge. Will I get denied because of this? I've worked so hard and my doctors know it too.

decisions decisions.... 36.9BMI, 30yr female (no kids yet)
txfirefly979 replied to txfirefly979's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@livvsmum thanks for replying... that is actually one of my biggest fears (especially because I'm not sure I could afford it, financially or mentally, a second time). It looks like you've had your surgery already and hit your goal weight (congrats!).... having said that - do you think it would be possible to lose the weight after kids? my concern with waiting is that I wont spend the money on myself then (plus it would be another 2+ years of waiting and being miserable in my own body b/c of pregnancy plus breastfeeding). I know I definitely couldnt wait until we've had all the kids we want bc that would be 10 years away! appreciate the different perspective though -

BC/BS IL..did anyone NOT have to do 6 month diet?
KayleighsMommy posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
I am really getting frustrated. When my surgeons office first called to check on my benefits they were told no prerequsites.. no psych eval, no diet, nothing... Now they are demanding the results of my sleep apnea test, as well as 5 years documentation of my weight. I got a form letter today, and it appears that they also require 6 months of dieting....has anyone NOT had to do this??? I am getting so flustered and frustrated. -
Frustrated with this long WAIT to get a surgery date
shrinkingkimber replied to Maggie Journey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have BC BS and had to jump through all the hoops you did. I finished everything on April 1 however due to a medication that I am on that suppresses my immune system I can't even have my surgery till after June 2 which led to a surgery date of June 9. So believe me I understand having to wait a long time after finishing the requirements. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Disgusted by meat?
JupiterinVirgo replied to Thucydides's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I was always a big meat eater, particularly red meats. I can tolerate most but I have found myself much less interested in meat as my post op life continues to unfold. It really started when I was on solid foods, and following my surgeons advice eating the most Protein dense food Per ounce: meat. 3x a day. After doing this for a month I noticed I felt like crap. That I was feeling sluggish physically and emotionally and mentally. And I started to feel kind of sick at the thought of eating meat. I still use it to supplement my protein, but only a few times a week. When I listen to my body, it seems to prefer cheese, particularly grass fed raw organic. It prefers organic fruits. It prefers nuts and seeds. On a day when I eat meat, it's usually just once and my other meals are based on the foods I already listed. Blindly following the direction of so-called authorities, including our surgeons offices, can lead to problems. Most people who have the surgery are doing it as a way of taking responsibility for their own health and well-being. The critical part of this is being educated from more than one point of view. Another critical part, is learning how to listen to your own body. What do you need, to be healthy and happy and fulfilled. In my personal opinion, it is a huge mistake to assume that all bodies respond the same way to the same things or need the same things. We need to learn how to talk to our bodies and how to listen to them when they talk to us. My body is intelligent and so is yours. -
I was sleeved and unbanded on July 9th. Honestly, I'm less than thrilled with the results. I had the stupid band done Sept 28th, 2010. Worst thing ever!! I went from 238 down to 205 in 5 months and then hit a wall and went up to 222 at one point. I was 217 the day of the sleeve surgery. I lost 14 pounds in two weeks and since then it's been torturous. After the first 14, I have only managed to eeek out 9 pounds in 8 1/2 weeks despite the plethora of protein items and kick ass physical therapy workouts for my knee 3 times a week to get me in shape for ski season in two months. I honestly thought that I would have been down 35 by now. I was looking for 2 pounds a week based on my intake and exercise for the first few months. I don't think that that is too much to ask for considering that I physically can't consume large quantities of food. I don't cheat with high calorie treats, sugar taste horrible to me, I only drink water and the occasional Starbucks Refresher which is 90 calories. I do allow myself small amounts of carbs earlier in the day to have quick energy to burn for workouts. I'l even go to bed hungry just to force my body to live with what I've fed it. I won't lie and say that it's not depressing to read the success stories of others here. You would think after two WLS that my body would get the hint. My blood sugars are fabulous, my cholesterol levels are enviable, my blood pressure is wonderful;it's the fat that clings to my body that pisses me off. Why won't it vacate the premises?

WEIGHT GAIN? 6 MONTH NUT VISITS.
sc101071 replied to pleezeSleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I jumped 8 lbs after the first visit, bc I did not know it counted as the first visit. I was actually told it was not counted toward my 3 month program... Lost 12 the next month. Did not hinder approval at all. -
I too hated exercise. I think that the key is finding something that you really enjoy doing. Try different exercises, classes, sports and when you find something that is "fun" you will want to continue doing it bc it's not a chore, its "FUN". Anyway, you can start walking immediately after surgery.I started walking 2 miles a day about 1 week post op and then started going back to the gym on week 4, taking it really easy and NO AB work for at least 6-8 weeks! However, you should check with your dr, to see what his rules are. Also, it doesn't all have to be at one time, just buying a pedometer and trying to reach 10,000 steps a day is an improvement. Park further from the office or store, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. It all adds up. Now I work out 7 days a week and it's just part of my lifestyle. It also really kicks the weight loss a couple notches. I wasn't losing anything...I was plateaud for at least a month until I started getting more fills and getting consistent with my exercise routine. I also am more active, like taking the stairs at work (6 flights that I couldn't do before). Of course the weight loss helps too, but the motivation has to come from you.

So I've had the balloon in for 16 days now and I haven't seen much change in weight. Maybe 1-3 lbs depending on the day. This is very discouraging. I don't get it. Is anyone one weight loss medicine as well as the balloon? What was everyone's starting weight? Just curious bc I feel like I just paid a **** ton for something that should be working better then this. Ugh

Update 💓 i have now “graduated “ to shakes again although they’ve been causing me great pain and trouble keeping them down. I am also still being fed nutrients via IV for the next two or so days . The positive of all of this is that my pancreas levels are improving. I will update soon. Thank you all ❤️ -
Smoking, drinking and food!
2ndSpring replied to julia454's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so impressed!!! alcohol, cigarettes and food. Every minute of every day, you should pat yourself on the back. I smoked for 25 years. Quitting is very hard. That advice about the first 2 weeks being the hardest is BS. It is hard for much longer so keep your guard up. It is not just the physical addiction but it was such a part of your life. It was a reason to take a break, it was something to do with your hands when you were bored, it was something to do with your mouth instead of eating. right? I promise it does get better. At first you will be preoccupied every minute of the day and think of nothing else. Gradually the time between will get further and further apart until one day you'll realize you went a whole day without thinking about a cigarette. It helps to remind yourself that never again will you have to go stand outside in the rain or snow to smoke, never again will you need to wake up on a Sunday morning and run out to the store because you ran out, never again will you have the awful smell on your breath and clothes, and best of all you will not develop those deep vertical lines on your lips as you get older. so proud of you!!!! -
Third Adjustment...not Feeling Restriction Yet....help!!!!
corrykidsmom replied to ktsped's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded April 2. I had my 3 rd fill thurs for a total of 4.6 cc. Before I just felt full quicker but could eat without problems but yesterday for breakfast I tried a pancake omg. I must have eaten too quickly bc that's the first time I have got sick since surgery. 3 bites was all I took but it sure felt like hell. So I stuck to full liquids for rest of day I'm down 30 lbs but took 3 weeks off exercise so I've kicked myself now back to exercising again and hopefully it'll start coming off again. Good luck and hang in there. -
I've been married ( now divorced) and had boyfriends. The last one did a job on me. He had a fantastic body which made me insecure from the get go. But since being with him ... I gained 40 lbs very quickly. Which in turn made me very insecure. I didn't want to be intimate with him after awhile bc I didn't like the way I looked I gained an additional 10 lbs and he broke it off with me... No reasons. I know the the reason and this was all under a year. You don't need the extra baggage of him. I don't know him but he doesn't sound like he's nice to you. You may think you love him but maybe you love the idea of him. You need to work on the number one person which is you!!! And everything else will fall into place. I promise you this....

Hi everyone, Has anyone experienced any nausea post-op? I'll be 4 weeks out on Friday, been on soft foods since 11/22. Since Sunday I've experienced intermittent nausea during the day. Also more burping than usual. Not sure if it's because I restarted my BC pills Sunday, I stopped my omeprazole around the same time, a combo of the two, or something else entirely. It's more annoying than anything but sometimes if I drink Water it'll spark the nausea.

You don't need WLS just go on a diet!
relaxrelaterelease replied to Granmasleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's so sad that people are so judgmental! My surgery is scheduled for October 31st and so far I've only told my children (all adults), my boyfriend, brother and sister in law. I'm afraid to tell my mother bc she thinks I'm fine as I am. I will tell her beforehand though. Like someone else said earlier, I told my boss and coworkers that I am having a medical procedure done and thats it. It's none of anyone's business especially on the job. I'm taking 2 weeks leave and hopefully I'll be feeling well enough to return full-time. -
Hi Jennifer I think it is fantastic that you joined up in support of your husband. I think the biggest misconception may be that there are foods we can't eat after surgery. Granted there are MANY items we shouldn't eat, but unless for some reason he can't tolerate something, the option to have his favorites, in moderation, are there. Bread is hard for a lot of folks, its just too dense and heavy. There is no way to know exactly how he will be effected. I love my carbs too, and I know I need to stay away from them to really get the most out of my weight loss efforts. This has ALWAYS been the case, not just post op. Carbs are necessary for a balanced diet, but most have no real nutritional value. Since we take in so few calories, we really want to get the most bang for our buck, so I try to stay away. I just found some wraps (Fiber One honey wheat) that I will have for lunch on occasion. Your switching to whole wheat pastas etc, is a great step in aiding his changing habits. I had a conversation with my mother not too long ago, she has never had any weight issues and we were a large family of 10 kids, so she never really thought about the food we ate growing up and how it does shape our habits throughout out life, just that we had enough. We had lots of bread and Pasta, quick meals that fed a lot of people for less money. It was a way of life, and that's what it needed to be at the time. But looking back, my habits were formed early on, it was up to me to change them. I completely understand his not wanting his struggles to be ones your children have later on and his wanting it to change now. That being said, it has got to be hard for a whole family to make sweeping changes, but some are for the overall better good. I don't have children, but I do have my young nieces & nephews come over a lot. Yogurt, cheese sticks, fruit. all acceptable snack items that are all still good for me too. keeping an open dialog is most important, if there is an item that he feels having around will make it really hard for him then maybe talk with the kids and see if they can take one for the team & dad and do away with for a while. I also can understand needing there not to be junk food in the house, maybe each of the kids can pick their own healthier alternative while he is in the early stages. I have been keeping pre-portioned packs of nuts as a snack, it gives me a crunch and on my plan. Making the decisions as a family for the overall good should make it a little easier at least. He may not realize all the changes you have been making behind the scenes. There are a few really good websites that have very tasty family friendly recipes. www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com and www.emilybites.com The kids most likely won't even realize these are "healthier" options. If his inquiry about surgery opened more of a dialog about healthy eating habits for the family, there is no "fault" there. He might need to think about it in a different way, or at least know that you don't think of it that way. Every summer I go away with a big group of my family to the beach. This year I put it out there to my many nieces and nephews to bring their bikes as a way of getting from one house to another (and to get me moving on vacation) They JUMPED at it, they loved that I wanted to ride with them and every one brought a bike, the whole week we rode and they never thought it was more than a great way to spend time together. My point really has to do with perception. There is a sub-forum here The Man's room. He & youmay get unique point of view by checking it out. Again, I really applaud your efforts to understand what he is going through and your willingness to do what you can to make the process easier. Best of luck to you all!!

OH MY GOD!!!! I know that sucks out the wazoo! They should have been able to kill the holds and refund the $.. Fed policy. Id go a head and do a lost/stolen acct process. (which invovleds killing your acct and opening a new one) just in case they did manage to get ahold of the checking acct number and get fake checks made. Sucks but can happen. I'd hate to scare you but... just to be safe.

Anyone taking Trazadone tablets post op?
CammyC replied to Heather Meyer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Heather, I take Trazodone every night. I’m 16 days post op and I finally started swallowing the entire 100 mg tab. Before that I was just crunching them between my teeth just one so they broke up into like 3 pieces. It doesn’t taste bad bc I would barely bite on it. Just enough to get it to break up. -

WhitneyLC84 replied to Heather Meyer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol. Actually my surgery was yesterday and I took the traz last night. I have not slept since I came out of surgery. I've been laying in bed awake all night. I'm in way too much pain to sleep. I hope to switch pain meds tomorrow, bc this Percocet isn't working. -
Ah...luvs you, too SNT. Being curious, tipsy, tired and pissed, I've looked up a few threads here and I still think Headhunter got a really fucking raw deal. He got ganged up on by someone "mean" (I can say that without being banned, because clearly it's acceptable....see reference in Please Help -http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/please-help-98595/index4.html ) She's "nasty, rude and arrogant" (I can say that without being banned, because clearly it's acceptable....see page 3 of Please Help - http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/please-help-98595/index4.html ) Her opinions are "total BS" (I can say that without being banned, because clearly it's acceptable...see page 1 of http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f84/banding-out-usa-98764/#post1280255 ) IMO she stalks people who ARE far superior in intellect, I think that "somebody needs to kick that jackass in the balls. What a whiney biatch." (Clearly acceptable....blah blah...see Page 2 of http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f80/ghetto-99129/index2.html ) Can someone please explain to me ...oh, wait. I forgot. Asking for explanations is futile. Calling someone names, then running and telling the mods you're feelings were hurt. I feel so...so...dehumanized. Who's the whiney biatch? (Oh, and in all the threads I've read, you make one consistent error - loose vs. lose. Learn the difference. You're on a weight loss forum.) Grow a pair (not pear, btw). And with that, good night.

Switching surgeons - is it possible?
gottadosumthin replied to BexRNY's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm in the middle of that now actually. I haven't gotten as far into the process as you, but I felt the same way about the surgeon with my first consultation. Although I'm doing the sleep study through the first surgeon, I'm doing everything else with the second one who took the time with me and didn't rush me in anyway. The second surgeon is willing to take the sleep paperwork bc it was from a bariatric program. You have to go with who you feel comfortable with. I'm scared of getting the surgery; I've been dragging my feet on it for about 10 years. Now, I make sure I'm with an experienced surgeon who takes the time for me. Good luck!!
