    Restriction Years Out From Surgery

I have about the same restriction as I did about 6 months post-op, 19 years ago. There are meals when I can only eat a bite or three, others when I am able to eat my (small) portion completely. I rarely push the actual limits of my pouch. Rarely being vacations with some gourmet meals and even then not every time, it has to be something extraordinary. I don't think my experience is the norm but I am happy with it, usually. Good luck, Tek

    10 day post opt

So I was wondering if anyone else has had the surgery on sept and what are the hardest parts as of yet .. I know with myself I’m having trouble reaching my fluid Intake. Also not being on any vitamins has me feeling sluggish. Thanks 🙏
  4. Sept 8th I had my Gastric Bypass done … 10 days post opt and working towards getting better every day . I have my first apt with the surgeon tomorrow so I’m hoping to get some answers to questions I have . Like vitamins and trying to get my protein and fluids in .
  5. 10 day post opt and have to say lots of questions still although I know it's Normal. Def having issues with being able to get all my fluids in because I feel so full and then my stomach hurts .. I know that when I tried the primer protein shakes I got sick immediately and I believe it was the milk .. which I never had a problem with before .. but now slowly introducing like almond milk and taking it slow .. but I'll admit I'm scared of food .

    For the ladies

I had started mine the day before surgery. I was also on blood thinners. That cycle lasted 7 days. I had about a 10 day break and then it came back with a vengeance for two weeks… so roughly 3 out of 4 weeks I had a heavy period. Cramps were horrible with heavy clotting. I was told to watch my cycles and if it continued to check in with my gyn, but also told that it’s not out of the ordinary to have cycle disturbance early in. Also got the “very fertile” time warning but I have my tubes tied and my hubby has a vasectomy - so we are clear there.

Finally i can buy clothes again

Great job! Yeah I love wearing stuff that used to not fit and now it fits or is even big on me. I've gone through all my clothes that I had when I was smaller and even stuff I wore after my first surgery (I was sleeved in 2016, lost a lot and then gained back and had revision in 2021), now I need even smaller stuff. Originally I was a 2XL shirt and those were starting to get tight, now I'm a Medium (!!) and down about 10 pants sizes as well. I've been getting my stuff at the thrift store because I don't know if I'll outgrow them (undergrow?) and they'll end up being too big. Once I reach my final weight and size I'll do a shopping spree.
  8. if you're swollen, that likely means you're retaining water. Might explain the weight issue. like others have said, it could also be the infamous "three-week stall" (that most of us experience) a little early - or you could still have some of the IV fluids in you that were given to you in the hospital. Some people leave the hospital up to 10 lbs heavier than when they went in!
  9. Hey everyone! So, I got sleeved on 09/13/2022! I usually bounce back quickly from anything, however I am so nervous something will go wrong or that I am doing something wrong! So, if anyone could help me with some of these questions it would help ease my mind some what… On the left side, where they pull the stomach through is it normal to feel a little hard, very very sore and a little bulge? If so, how long does this tend to last? I have had this since the day of surgery. Was anyone else sore just getting out of the bed? Did it feel like you would pull something doing so?! Did anyone else resume Vyvanse days after surgery? It seems to me that most people returned to normalcy immediately and that is not exactly happening to me. If you use shakes like Atkins, Ensure Max, Premier Protein can you mix them with a whey protein powder to get you closer to recommended amount of protein per day? Are sugar free popsicles the easiest way to stay hydrated? How many are ok in a day? Can I do low impact indoor cycling at a slow pace? Did you start walking for at least 30 mins immediately upon discharge home? And how long did you let your family stay after? While they are a HUGE help and I truly appreciate that I have each one of them…They are driving me literally nuts with what I shouldn’t do. (I shouldn’t do anything except stay in my bed and go to the bathroom.) (My mom thinks I shouldn’t even go outside to walk🤦🏾‍♀️) because I could get sick from being open and having a major surgery. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Not one of them have ever been overweight or had any bariatric surgery! They all smoke which is their choice I did too previously, but I don’t allow it my apartment, so they are in and out every 10-15 mins, especially on the nights they drink wine 😡… My sister is also here with her out of control, talking back to her seven year old😤. Any pointers or helpful thoughts are welcomed!!! SW219 CW206.7 GS09.13.22

    Body odor?

I have this problem! I'm down 118 pounds, I'm a year out and my deodorant DOES NOT WORK. I shower regularly, I eat my vegetables, I am not in ketosis, and am well hydrated. I'm baffled and embarrassed. I bet i've tried 10 different kinds of deodorant and none of them work the way they did before my surgery.
  11. I'm scheduled for 9/19. Super nervous!!!
  12. You can absolutely lose your teeth if you have bad teeth and you throw up often. Calcium deficiency can cause this. I forced myself to vomit 2x and I’m 1month and 10 days out. The hair thinning is more concerning to me but this is still worth it. I’m 30lbs down 5’6 was 220 after 2, 4, 7, 9 yo kids.‘I was able to get it and jumped

    Gall Bladder problems After VSG?

My bariatric surg was 8/8/22 5’6 highest weight after 4 kids (2,4,7,9) and a challenging relationship with their dad for 14 years. Down maybe 30lbs by now. When I was told on 9/12 I had a 26lb weight loss and told my GB had a stone so 10/3 is my surgery. It came to surface bc my pcp needed a f/up mri from a pancreatic cyst and Found excess Fluid in my stomachs. my surgeon said normal but not my gallbladder even the cyst is normal. Worse part is my mother and auntie both very judge mental and critical told me to pray. My mom said “People Get addicted to Surgery, not bc you feel better Eventually but bc the anesthesia😳😒) this being a Med necessity! But I’m so tired of the non support I’d honestly threw in the towel recently.

  15. I had band to bypass revision on July 19, for GERD. There's plenty of people on here who have revised to bypass that lost additional weight and are now at a normal or near normal BMI. So I don't understand why your doctor said that. But I do understand everyones medical situation is unique. But don't give up yet, because you're still early in the game. The first month or so I felt similar to you. Wasn't losing much at all and wondering if I would lose. This was a fear of mine since I made the decision to revise. I'm eight weeks out now and I've lost thirty-five pounds. Not as fast of weight loss as those with a virgin bypass or those with a higher BMI, but I am still losing. So just follow your program and wait until you're fully healed and then you will probably see more pounds coming off. One thing I will add, when the scale wasn't moving in the first month, I was definitely losing inches. Have you noticed your clothes getting bigger? Because that's still a loss. The scale will catch up.

    August surgery buddies!

I’m with you. I just had my appointment today and was so stressed that I was going to get lectured or my team would think the same things. I have about 150 more pounds to loose (at least) - so I was expecting to have lost at least 30 this month. It was just a goal I set for myself, but I really thought I could do it. After loosing about 23 pounds the first 7-10 days, I thought I’m so going to crush this…. Then a stall hit. My period came back (had it three out of the last 4 weeks) and I’ve been beyond drained. Turns out my BP was low and I’m mildly dehydrated. I kept saying “if I could do more I’d loose more”. The dr and dietitian both told me to ease up on myself. They said I’m doing great and they are pleased with my progress (turns out my weight fluxed up with my period so I’m down exactly 20 pounds from surgery day). Even so - they are happy with how I’m healing and told me to get hydrated, up my protein & calories (they gave me a range) and then told me to follow up with my pcp (see him Monday). But to stay on plan and they both think I’m off to a good start and that I will do well. The first month is all about healing, recovery and getting used to our new routines as we progress through the phases. They asked me what NSV I noticed when I was frustrated with the scales and encouraged me to keep watching my body change because that is sometimes a better indicator of progress (and I do see a lot of changes). I know it is hard, especially when we set goals for ourself and we don’t meet our own expectations. But slow and STEADY wins the race… we can do this!! I was so stressed going into my appointments but I was so happy when I came out hearing their encouragement to keep doing what I’m doing.
  17. I have trouble eating! I do my protein shakes almost every day and then that's enough for me. Unfortunately when I get stressed or bored I pick up potato chips, grapes, or I do have a healthy salad. I find potato chips to be my downfall so I'm trying very hard to stay away from those. But I think my main problem is I'm not getting enough protein in and that maybe why my weight has gone from 265 in 2019 to 170 lb April 21st of last year to now 198 lb! So I am depressed about it but I'm trying to do something about it and want to do a reset after I do this colonoscopy! Any remarks, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated as I want to get back to 170 and even below that my goal is between 140 and 150 I'm 5 ft 4 in. I'm also about to undergo another procedure for my back having a spinal cord stimulator implanted this procedure will mean I have undergone at least 12 back procedures / surgeries since 2015 so I'm in a lot of pain but implementing exercise as I can. 19. Hey guys, so I am 10 months post-Op and I used to be a social drinker. I do wanna introduce alcohol socially only during dates and other outings. Ofc I know I'll have to be cautious and what not and that I will be, so question is what alcoholic drinks are more favorable for bariatric patients? Form your experience, which ones did you try incorporating? Something that's low sugar and less calories? Red wine, white wine?

    Under Boob rash

i just got out this chafing ointment that I used between thighs as preventative after it went away and read directions again. It says ot can be used on chafed skin. It’s called camois butt’r and it’s anti-chafe skin that’s used by a lot of cyclists. It works. I got it on Amazon. 22. I had the gastric sleeve with Dr ceaser elenes. The surgery itself was 1000/10. Didn't feel any pain or experience any issues. Excepted the fact that I woke up speaking Spanish....😂😂😂. Followed the after diet for the first 3 months and lost 80lbs. Surgery date. June 1,2022 Price $3000 Travel $700 (from Miami to mexicali,Mexico). Hw 384lb Surgery 372lb Currently weight 291. Pros: The price extremely affordable. Had been getting dicked around by my insurnace for 3 years. The care (bedside manner) of the doctor. Getting a new lease on life(not to sound corny). No more early morning back pain. sleep apnea. Blood pressure meds. Cons. As with any out of the country surgery lack of a follow up. After the first three months your done no more care. You are on your own... kinda scary. But do I regret my decision hell No. A great price Great doctor Great facilities. I give it a rating of 9/10.

    Under Boob rash

This may sound funny but I had boob rash for years. Once I got it cleaned up by using over the counter yeast cream for the vagina. I then put deodorant on under my boobs and have never had the rash again. It has been well over 10 yrs now. Keep trying whatever you can to get it cleaned up. I feel your pain!

    **Weight REGAIN**

Sounds like your doctor has faith in you since you originally went from 400 to 170 lbs. That is a huge accomplishment. Despite the weight gain, you are still way ahead in the weightloss game being 135 lbs down. Maybe he suggested the 10 day liquid diet to try to get you back on track. Similar to the post-op diets, kind of like a reset. I know resets can't shrink your stomach but it does reset some people mentally and they can go back to the dedication they had early post-op and continue doing whatever they did to be so successful before. Also, since you have vitamin deficiencies, maybe he feels you having a revision would not be a safe thing right now. I think you seeing your pcp is a good thing to address or exclude any other health problem that may be causing you to gain weight. If you really want a revision and he is unwilling, perhaps get a second opinion.

    **Weight REGAIN**

Welcome! First of all, great job on your weight loss. Even after the regain, you’re still down 130 pounds from where you started, which is a major accomplishment. Secondly, I’m appalled that your bariatric surgeon’s solution was a 10-day liquid diet, as if that’s a realistic long-term weight loss strategy. I do think you’re on the right track to go to a PCP and get your thyroid and vitamin deficiencies corrected. Are you tracking your eating at all? I use MyFitnessPal, but there are other apps like Baritastic that have similar features, and I think tracking your eating can really help you see where you can improve. At least for me, there’s something about seeing the numbers that makes it clear what is or isn’t worth eating.
