Going On Week 3 Of A Stall...

Me too Life. I am in a 3 week stall... But I believe that if we stick with our program, this too shall pass. Just avoid the One Big Mistake... giving up.

ESG date is Tues Nov 21!

The only time I have stopped losing was during a 3 week stall and it's when I started on "normal" food. I wasn't cheating but adding carbs in fruit and wraps/bread had an instant effect on my weight loss. The only mistake I have made really is over calculating nuts ( I was guessing what 20g was but when I used some scales it was actually 40g.). Since I got through this stall, I have consistently lost weight every week. My weekly losses range from about. 3-.5 kg per week. I have to say though, my clothing sizes are going down faster than the numbers on the scales. I just purchased a size 12 top and 14 dress (which is a 10 and 12 US size) and previously was a size 18-20(16-18 us). People are really noticing the difference too. I imagine you could loses much faster than me if you really restricted carbs and did intense exercise. I am going for behaviours that I can sustain long term. So I still go out the dinner but do lots of walking with some short runs and a couple of light strength training sessions per week. I eat the same meals as my family at home but just have a kids size serve and avoid to many carb rich foods. You are so right, you get out what you put in. A girl at my work had a sleeve gastrectomy the same time as I had my esg and I have lost more weight than her at this point which surprises me. I'm sure heaps of lsg patients are way ahead of me but it's so individual. Xo

    calling all December 2016 sleevers!

Anyone else in the 2-3 week stall? I'm starting to feel really depressed. Just wondering if anyone else sleeved in December is past the stall and how and when it broke. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. No worries! What you are going through is COMPLETELY NORMAL. You just had major surgery, your body is in shock and adjusting. Like you said, you know you aren't eating enough (it's physically impossible) for you to gain. It's a combination of Water, shock from the surgery, the dreaded 3 week stall (search the forum for "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall" and it will give you an idea of why this happens. One thing I will say is stay off the scale right now. You have more important things to worry about right now like getting your liquids and Protein. Try really hard to not weigh yourself every day, it just causes undo anxiety that you don't need. Hop on in a couple more weeks and you will be pleasantly surprised. I promise! Hang in there!
  6. I’ve read about the 3 week stall and I thought I had several more losing days prior to stalling, if I even would. It’s so frustrating!! I’m not even two full weeks out and to stall now is devastating.

    Discouraged and regreting

DON'T REGRET sweetie this is the 3 Week Stall!!!!! And YES it truly sux on so many levels I'm just a month in and same as you the weight that i lost came off in the 1st 2weeks and THAT WAS IT! !!!! My surgery was December 11th and this is the first week that i lost again and only like a pound. If you are following the guidelines you'll start losing again, try not to get depressed and throw it all away. Keep positive the best you can, I've been told there are THREE possible Stalls ... now, again in ur 3rd month and once more at your 6month mark. So stay positive girl we can do this so many people have succeeded let's be part of the success together!!!!
  8. I am a floor nurse and went back 1 week post op from having gastric bypass. A huge mistake. I struggle getting fluids in. Fellow staff get angry due to me not being able to assist with lifts. I have not been able to meet my protein goals since returning which i think caused a 3 week stall. Thankfully I have been able to avoid dehydration but i really advise you to take the time your dr recommends. I didnt listen and I have been paying for it. Good luck.

    Discouraged and regreting

It must be a good week my friends because it appears that my "3 Week Stall" had also been defeated and i too have lost some pounds this week. I can't tell you how hard it truly was stocking to everything and not seeing any results but it's happened just as everyone promised. Thank you ALL for the sport and guidance you give ~♡♡~

    June 2015 sleevers

I had my sleeved done June 5th .. I had to do the 2 week pre-op diet but didn't really do a good job at it. 2 weeks post op I had lost 25 ( s.w 268 ) but now 6 week post- op I'm down a total of 36lbs (c.w 232). In between though I had like a 3 week stall where I wasn't losing anything. I have been following somewhat the diet and been slacking on the walking but I have been working around the house and using my kids as weights lol to compensate for it. I'm 5'8 so my goal weight would be between 160-175lbs.

    June 2015 sleevers

I was sleeved on 6/25/15. My program starting weight was 235.4lbs. I was 223.9 when I started my liquid pre-op diet and on surgery day I weighed in at 215.1. This morning my weight was 196.8lbs. I'm very pleased with the way things are going for me. My first 2 weeks were pretty brutal on me (mostly mentally). I also hit the 3 week stall, it was a bit torturous. I just kept jumping on the treadmill for some easy walks. It seemed to do the trick. So I'm about 18lbs down since surgery, and 38lbs down overall. I'm still struggling with my mind wanting to eat more than my stomach can handle. I'm getting better everyday with that. I'm feeling great, and proud of the way I look, even though I'm a long way from where I want to be. Good luck everyone!!

    June 2015 sleevers

Hi, I was sleeved on 6/15. I did the pre-op for 1 week and lost 5 pounds. Oddly enough, i lost 16 pounds the first week, and hit the "3 week stall" in week 2. After that, it's been pretty smooth sailing. All told I've lost 30 pounds since the pre-op. My main focus is Protein. I drink 1 Isopure shake and 1 premier shake a day as a general rule, which is 80 grams of protein. I struggle getting all the liquid in daily. I'm an extremely picky eater, and the pureed stage didn't work for me at all. I either ate Soup, cottage cheese, or pretty much whatever chewed very well. Frankly I was surprised with my weight loss since I didn't strictly adhere to that plan, but it went well. I AM NOT ENCOURAGING THAT, I'm just sharing my experience; everyone's body is different. Just had my one month and the Dr. is pleased with my progress and moved me to soft foods, which is pretty much where I was already. I have found that 1/3 cup of food is about perfect for a meal I can't begin to tell how much better I feel with the weight loss. My recovery was easy, I feel like I've adapted pretty well, but oddly enough I am depressed, even though I feel so much better than before. I have a hair trigger temper now, which I did not before. My Dr. suggested that the worst of the attitude should be behind me by week 8, but he said it boiled down to 2 things, which I'd agree with: 1. I'm only intaking 500-700 calories a day tops, so even though I don't feel hungry I'm not giving my body much fuel, and 2. mourning the loss of my favorite stress reliever. Even though I'm not hungry I catch myself thinking like I did pre-surgery, and have to remind myself that I can't eat like that anymore, it's just not physically possible. This impact to attitude is a small price to pay though for a future that looks much brighter now than it did 2 months ago. Oh yeah, my new favorite thing is Cherry Antacid Soft Chews from Kroger. Never really had heartburn before, but I sure do now...
  13. 9/13 sleeved start weight 197 down to 180.4. 17 pounds trying to break though my 3 week stall. Good news off all diabetic meds still!

Plateau for the last few days...help!

Since the day of surgery I've been living in fear of the dreaded 3 week stall. I hit 2 weeks tomorrow and start mushies next Tuesday. I'm praying the 3 week stall isn't too devastating. I joined a gym today and start working out tomorrow so (prayerfully) that will help give my body the boost it needs to lose as much as I can before the 3rd week arrives. @@twinmommy83 keep us posted on your progress. Other than our heights our stats are so similar it will be nice to have someone to chat about this whole thing with. good luck!!
  15. Yes!! While I'm only 3+ weeks post op, I decided before surgery that I would switch to weighing only once a month. You see...I'm a recovering scale addict. And I wanted to use this surgery to heal myself physically, mentally and emotionally. I would weigh every day and beat myself up about it. Very self-critical. After reading so many posts about the "dreaded 3 week stall" I thought well hey, if I'm sleeved on Nov 3 then I'll just weigh in on the first of each month. That's easy to remember. So I haven't weighed myself since surgery. I'm guaranteed a decent loss on Dec 1 but I won't know if I've been going through a stall or how long it has been.

    Not Enough Weight Loss! Scary

It sounds like that dreaded 3 week stall, maybe? I hit that at two weeks post op Now im back on track, Im like you, I only have 60 pounds to lose. I'm trying so hard, I finally started back up with losing. Lost 5 pounds in week 3!! Hang in there, it is harder for us, due to the lower starting weight and smaller amount to lose, but we can do it!!! I started cardio aerobics, it helps Sent from my iPhone using VST
  17. This is very normal. The key is 60-80 grams of protein daily, eat carbs because they give your body energy, drink water and exercise. When you add excercise to the mix it confuses the body even more and it needs some time to catch up. Trust me it will catch up. I was in a 3 week stall at 35lbs...happy to say i am now at 50lbs, joined a gym...confused my body but when it caught up it caught up fast!! Dont stress it keep going and the weight will come off. By the way...GREAT job!! Dont forget to celebrate your success!!
  18. No, you're not doing anything wrong. https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=3 week stall
  19. I was sleeved Jan 28th..... SW 220 CW 192..... 28 pounds so far! Had the dreaded 3 week stall that lasted 2 weeks! Walking 2 miles a day.... 64 oz of water most every day.... Concentrating on at least 60 grams of protein daily. I drink 1 protein shake for breakfast that gets my day started with 30 grams of protein right off the get go! Greek yogurt.... Cottage cheese.... Grilled chicken breast... Seafood and refried beans are my staple food right now. Eating is a bit over-rated right now... Still have the feeling a bus is parked in my chest after eating! Congrats to all on your journeys!

Don't Know How To Eat !

This helps me a lot too, thanks guys. I am at that 3 weeks stall.
  21. Thank you for responding. Now I know I'm not alone either hehe. I had surgery the day after yours so we are in the same boat. 😁I think as long as we don't get disheartened, it will break. Maybe our infamous 3 week stall is a couple weeks late. lol. It is definitely confusing when the CNP and nutritionist say opposing things. Either way I think we're still in good shape and staying on track with checking in, and connecting with others. Cheers!

    Any December 30th Sleevers ?!

@@TheBombMom I'm eating cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, bell pepper and lettuce. But I've tried a little cabbage and carrot and my belly hinted it was not yet time. Celery has not been appealing yet. My surgeon said to hold off on the harder things until 6 weeks and then try them weekly. Last week I had seared tuna and could eat that no problem but then I had tuna poke and my belly suggested it was not fully ready. So we'll hold off on Sushi for a bit longer. Nothing huge or incredible happened - it was just a little gnawing that it was taking a bit more work than other things. I haven't been getting too excited because by the time I get my protein in my "belly budget" is near full and there's not a lot of room left for other things. Indian food was AWESOME - we did need to adjust the spice as I don't get rice or bread but my tummy was totally ready for the bit of increased spice. I was able to try a bit of everything and didn't feel cheated and I was able to eat on my left overs for 2 days. Fruit I've been eating. One of those big Honeycrisps is 4 servings for me and if I slice it thin I can eat the skin no problem. Haven't tried orange type fruit yet. Strawberries are a-ok and bananas (ok 1/2 a banana at a time) has been on the menu since mushies. I went for my 8 week on Tuesday and my surgeon said not to worry too much about the fruits and veggies right now as I'm on my supplements and my body can make the carbs and fats I need. That I just need to focus on getting in the protein and water as my body can't make that and would take what it needs from my muscle mass - and my muscles are what I'm not trying to loose! She said my 1000-to 1100 calories were good but not to go below 800 and if it varied in that range it was ok. My weightloss has been slower. There was a 3 week stall around week 3. But my surgeon said I was still on track and where I should be. I'm glad she gave me my little gold star because watching everyone else I was feeling a bit left behind. Even though I'm meeting things in my closet I haven't met in years. I'm sure I've said "How YOU doin?" in my best Joey voice at least 50 times when I discover an old favorite. OH and the super cool part - no more metformin and no more blood pressure medication!
