    Low Bmi'ers...how Long To Goal?

Hey Guys: I'm 5'1. My first pre-op weight was 205. The next month, my Nutritionist told me to add "healthy carbs and startches" to my diet, and at my next pre-op appt. I weighed 213! I had to work the next 4 months just to lose the 8 lbs. I gained. I struggled. Finally, at my last pre-op, I had gone back down to 203, and my weight at surgery check-in was 199.5! I am 8 weeks out, and I weigh 178 right now. I had a 3 week stall. I up'd my protein to 70-80 grams of protein, and just started exercising last week. My stall broke, and I lost 3 pounds! Slowly but surely, and I have gone from a size 22 to an 18, sometimes a snug 16. LOL For the record, I haven't had any sweets, or breads of any kind. I thought following my meal plan strictly would promote faster weight loss. I am still sticking to the plan, despite not having the fastest results. I think the lack of exercise, slowed down my loss...Good luck everyone! We didn't put our bodies through this to fail:)
  2. So I'm 4 weeks post op and yes I'm on a 3 week stall which I hate but i understand ! Well today I talked t my NUT and i'm just getting a little under or just right at 900 calories in a day and Ive tried getting my water in but i'm just not getting it all in ! My protein ive had no problem actually I'm 64 +++ ! Well today she tells me I need to raise my calorie intake to 1200 ive tried and i just can't and she said Ive got to get that water in that's why ive got a stall any suggestions???????

    Stall at week 3?

I thought I was immune to the 3 week stall.... kept on losing until I hit my 2nd month and then stalled out for almost the entire month and lost only 3 lbs. The good news is that you just keep on your path and hopefully you will get to the finish line in the end. I'm down 105 lbs and have 25lbs to get to goal. 1 year ago I needed to lose 130 lbs. My mind now focuses on the 25 lbs because it sounds so much more doable and sounds like what a "normal" person needs to lose. Even with all the stalls, the frustration of losing slowly, the feeling like everyone else loses faster than me.... I wouldn't change a thing!
  5. Is anyone else on a 3 week stall? I know its normal but frustrating

    21 Weeks Post-Op

I'm down -3 lbs this week!!! Woot woot! I can officially say that the after Christmas/Holiday vacation recovery is fully underway! I haven't done anything drastic, I've just been back to work for a week, eating healthy choices, drinking lots of fluids, and really just watching all the crappy stuff leave my every day meal choices! And it's working! So glad! I was technically on a 3 week stall, because I was eating so much bad stuf the last few weeks, that this week I felt soooo much better and in control. I'm going after my 145 lbs goal with complete focus! I'd love to hit it in the next 3 to 4 months! I'd be sooooooo excited! Just got to keep focused, and know that the little numbers add up to big numbers in the end!! And my NSV? I walked into the the GAP yesterday and grabbed a pair of size 8 jean legging (jeggings I think they are called) and they fit perfectly. I walked into a name brand store and bought a pair of size 8 jeans??? Whaaaat? REALLLYYYY? WHaaaattt???? It's made my week! So excited! pant suze not changing

i had my surgery on dec8 and have been on a 3 week stall.....the scale moves up n down .......my heaviest wt was 251 and day before surgery 228....today 209......BUT ..all my clothes are fallin off me .......from 3x tops to xl tops ...and tight22's to tight16's.....everybodys body is built differently ....but yeah, i stay bummed out on a daily basis cuz the scale is not moving , but my clothing sizes are ! I have been measuring myself too......but find it inaccurate as to exactly where i put the measuring tape the previous time .....a lil higher or lower on the hip makes a big differene in accuracy...i thought about putting a dot on my hip with a black permanent marker so i can be precise !!!
  8. I am experiencing the same as you!! Big drop in first couple of weeks. Then 3-4 week stall, drop of 5, then 3 week stall, drop of 5. Talked to my doc and he said I was doing fine! Ok! The weight didn't pile on overnight, and it's not coming off that way, either. Everyone is different, and progresses at their own speed. Don't be too hard on yourself-- I am impatient too!!! Just keep doing what you are doing!
  9. I am a realistic person, really I am. Pragmatic even....but these stalls every few weeks are just the most aggravating thing. 3 week stall, then five lbs off I am at another stall (sleeved 11.28)....where I sit at 216 (down from 246 initial weight, then 236 one week preop). I am eating enough, not too much, not too little. I have to admit I am lucky to get in 40 ounces of fluid each day, not the requisite 60 ounces then recommend. I just need reassurance that this is completely normal, and this follows similar paths to a lot of post op patients. I guess if I know by the summer, I should have at least another 40 lbs off, I would breathe a huge sigh of relief. But there are no guarantees, are there?

    Finally broke my stall

Congrats! I also am officially out of a 3 week stall as of today also! Doesn't it feel great? I am also on my fitness pal. I'll add you.

In a stall and FREAKING OUT!

You have hit the inevitable 3 week stall. Read the link in my sig. It will help explain why. Don't worry about it. It will break on its own very soon. Most people go through this.
  12. What a long, strange 6 weeks this has been. It seems such a long time ago that I was laying in the recovery room in horrible pain. This process has not gone at all how I have expected. My first 2 weeks I dropped 37 pounds. Then the scale didn't move AT ALL for 3 weeks. 3 weeks in a row I got on the scale to just get the exact same number. It was so discouraging. Today I got on the scale & I was down 5 lbs. Finally I am moving in the right direction again. I thought that I would have lost more by now. I do recognize (even with a 3 week stall) that my weight loss average is a pound per day over the past 42 days. That is a lot of weight. I also have finally broken through one of my biggest mental fears. I have been in the 380's many times in the past few years. I have never made it into the 370's. With my 3 weeks stall I was afraid that I was doomed to stay in the 380's. Well, today I am in the 370's. Over the past 6 weeks I have learned many things but there are 2 major lessons that I have taken away. The first is not to compare my weight loss to others. That is the most self-defeating behavior. If I looked at just my weight loss, I would be happy. When I compare myself to others is when I start to stress myself out & feel discouraged. The second lesson is to just follow the program. If I eat healthy, incorporate exercise & listen to my body then I will lose weight. It might not be the way that I expected, but it will come off. I am just starting this new journey. I need to be strong & have faith in myself & the process.

    Frustrated!

Yes as the others have said, stalls happen. I had a 3-4 week stall starting at 2 1/2 weeks. Look up "3 week stall" there are tons of threads on this! The best advice has been given right here... just keep on going, do not compare your weight loss with others and follow your Drs advice. This is not a race. Cheer up! This is an adventure!

    Frustrated!

You're in what's known around here as the 3 week stall. Many people have a big stall sometime in the first three weeks. This article will help explain why. Just be patient. Weight Loss Stall or Plateau A weight loss stall or plateau is an extended period of time during reducing efforts where is there is no weight loss according to the scale and no loss of inches according to the tape measure. This is why it is so important to take your body measurements before surgery, so you'll have a reference as your weight loss progresses post-op. We suggest you take measurements of your chest, waist and hip, neck, upper arm, thigh and calf. Be aware it is very common for your weight loss to "stall" shortly after surgery. Diana explains the reason for this below. The Inevitable Stall By Diana C. A "stall" a few weeks out is inevitable, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet. As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a saber tooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored. Breathe, and fuggedaboudit for a few days. What You Can Do About a Stall or Plateau If you are experiencing a post-op weight loss stall or plateau further out there are a few possible causes. First, check that are you really in a stall. If the scale has stopped moving you may be losing inches, so check your measurements. Too Many Carbs? Carbohydrates can start sneaking into your foods without you being aware of how quickly they are adding up. For more information on carbs, see our section on Carbohydrates. If you are struggling with your weight loss you may want to examine your daily carb count. You can try to keep your carbs under 50g a day and see if that makes a difference in your weight loss. Do not eat carbs before bedtime as it triggers insulin and initiates fat storage. There are some great web site resources you can use to keep track of what you are eating. Fit Day Spark People - If you join Spark People also join the DS group. The Daily Plate Calorie King For more tips on keeping a food journal see the Personal Nutrition Guide. Eating Enough? If you are under-eating or go more than 4-5 hours without eating, your body will shift into fasting mode, slow your metabolism and conserve your stored energy (fat). This can contribute to a weight loss stall or plateau. Make sure you are eating small meals or small Snacks throughout the day and also ensure you meet your daily Protein requirements. Try eating some protein with every meal or snack. For more information on protein requirements see our section on Protein. Drinking Enough? An adequate level of water in your body aids in the effective breakdown of fat. The daily minimum recommendation is 64 Fluid oz of water a day. If you are in ketosis you will need to drink even more water to ensure the ketones are flushed out of your system. You may also need more than the minimum amount of water if you are exercising or live in a warmer or dry environment. Exercising? Exercise can increase your metabolism and burn fat. Strength training will build muscles and will boost fat burning. In a stall you can try increasing your volume of exercise or changing up your routine to overcome a weight loss stall or plateau. If you have been doing mainly aerobic activity, try doing a bit of strength training, and if you have been doing mainly strength training, try an aerobic work-out. The High Fat - High Calorie Stall Buster Many DSers swear by the fat/calorie shock as an effective weight loss stall or plateau buster. Having a day of higher fat and calorie eating followed by a returning to consistent low carb eating can sometimes "shock" your body back into weight loss mode.

Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

Loose the scale!!! I had to as I was obsessed as well. Eating before bed isn't good either as you're metabolism slows way down when you sleep. Sounds like you aren't getting enough protein. Drink a protein shake. I had a 3 week stall and added protein and water and changed up my exercise everyday. I read that your body will get used to it and slow down. Also do some weight lifting. That will help your metabolism as well. My weight comes off slow some weeks and in chunks the next. Remember as long as the scale is going DOWN be happy!!! I set mini goals. Right now I am hoping to lose 10 by end if January. I am down 5 so if I can lose the next 5 then I am going to Good Will and look for new jeans????. And if I don't well I will shoot for it still and get the jeans when I get there. (I want to desperately be under 200 and this goal gets me there. What's your goal?
  17. Really, Im not kidding, This is pretty common. Even if you were eating 1200a day, it is not causing you to stall. Search "3 week stall". The worry is not needed... You ARE "eating like a bird",its your body adjusting to the surgery and rapid weight loss....taking a breath, It probably thinks you were injured and starving! Many have gone through this and gone on to losing massive amounts of weight. Just follow your Drs plan. Also, If you haven't started already, measure as well, you may well be losing inches. I went through MANY stalls over the first 12 months... stalls that lasted weeks. It is common for the body to do this. Just keep up the good work and it will come off.
  18. Was sleeved 12/10 lost 16lbs the first week and a half. Haven't lost a thing since. Some days it goes up a pound or so then we'll come back down. But hasn't gone any lower than my initial lowest. I've been following my plan, I'm on purees now, should I be concerned or is this normal? I was thinking maybe I would call my nut on Monday just to check with them. Any thoughts? I hear about the 3 week stall how long does it last?

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Finally broke the 3 week stall!!! Down to 216 as of this morning...200 is so close.
  20. I listened to what others did to get out of the stall. Eat more!!! It really works. I was in a 2-3 week stall. Starting eating more even added a few more carbs. I drink at least one protein drink a day. It will work for ya. I was sleeved nov. 14th.
  21. I started at 244 the day I was sleeved 9/26/12. I had the 3 week stall lasted 2 weeks the 6 week stall lasted a week the 9 week stall lasted 4 weeks. My hair is good my skin arms tummy boobs is saggy I'm not the kind of person that gets depressed but right now I am so depressed . I was not a big eater to begin with and I've always been active my big problem was skipping days without eating and then Benge eating eating the wrong foods. My nut,doc and my Exercise psychologist don't know what's wrong or what to do has anyone at all had this any of the vets can add info here? I'm not lossing lots of inches on the stalls or at all I'm in a 16/18 have been sin 2 weeks out and not went down one inch other then in my shins 1 inch there that's all the inches iv lost in 7 weeks.
