  1. Seems like... the more I read, the more people are having a HARD time getting in enough protien right after having WLS. Why don't people just add a tablespoon of GENEPRO protien into their broth etc? Seems easy enough to me. Am I missing something here? Do people not know about Genepro? Hitting your Protein target seems easy this way. So why don't more people do it? Is it a cost thing?? I am still 4 months away from surgery, so I am trying to get this all figured out...

    Looking for August sleevers

Sleeved 8/25 Hw 247 Sw 240 Cw 203 Almost to that ONEderland!!! Have been stalled for over a week. Of course it would happen right before getting out of the 200's. Lol. Feeling great. Need to exercise more but time is a huge issue for me. I take 30g of GENEPRO daily and try to get the rest of my Protein in with solid food. If for some reason I don't, then I'll take more genepro in the evening. I work nights (5pm-5am) so my schedule is a nightmare and I think it adds to my slow weight loss. But hey, I'm 44 lbs lighter than I was 2 months ago, so I'm happy! Oh, hair loss has started. Not pleased with that part. Luckily I have very long thick hair. I hope it doesn't continue too long. I do notice a couple areas it is thinning. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein intake

Get some GENEPRO. You can mix it with anything. I mix it with my hummus, yogurt, cottage cheese, I even mixed it into the infamous Ricotta Bake. We need to be creative in the begging soft food stage. It is very hard getting Protein in. Thankfully I have no issues with shakes. But I find the timeframe very difficult getting in protein and fluids in a 12 hour awake day.

Someone here posted about GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. You can add it to anything. I'm on pureed foods so I mix a scoop of that in to whatever I'm eating and that helps me get to the right number of grams. It is so hard to get down 60 g protein and 64 ounces of Water a day. I feel like I'm constantly trying to force something down. My surgery date was 11/19. It's getting easier though and the Genepro helped. I even add it to bouillon, mix it in the nutribullet and that way I get extra fluids in.

I agree a hundred percent. I been buying since March. The only thing I'm not getting again is the Genepro. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. I second the recommendation for Genepro! One tiny scoop and no aftertaste at all!
  8. One thing i tried that i love are breakfast parfait's. I use fage 0% fat plain greek (taste awful by itself, it's very tart) and i add a scoop of gnc vanilla protein to it. And top it with my favorite berries. (If you want to add rolled oats on top for a granola like effect knock yourself out) -instant 45g of protein right there. -premier caramel a scoop of any flavor protein powder and caramel flavored coffee - instant 50g of protein - i've added genepro to sauces, dressings etc I've done fruit flavored greek yogurt mixed with any ready to drink protein and blended it with berries and ice for about 50g of protein. -loco moco over cauliflower rice (pinterest) using 93% lean ground beef, 1 egg and a few tbs of egg whites. (Almost 50g of protein) I'll add as i think of other things i've done recently.

    Not getting enough calories

Mashed potatoes with Genepro in it has helped me get my calories a few days.
  10. I've done a lot of reading about GENEPRO GEN2 Protein powder and it seems like a terrific way to meet my protein goals each day. The company said it is tasteless and odorless and can be mixed in hot or cold foods. Has anyone used it? Is it actually tasteless? I have a really difficult time getting enough protein each day so this might be an answer. If you have used it what do you typically mix it with? Do you like it? Thanks for any input❗️ Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  11. Stir Genepro or another protein powder into everything you can? That 🐭🐱is a hard hard question to answer. I feel like I'm a protein with occasional sides of veggies myself. Don't you feel like screaming YOU CANT GET BLOOD FROM A TURNIP! , cause I sure do!

  13. I want to push back a little. Why do you need to drink protein instead of eating, say, chicken, fish, lean beef, etc.? I personally don't use Genepro because I don't trust its claims (gram is a unit of weight -- you can't get 30 grams of protein out of 15 grams of substance). But if I did use it, I'd probably check out prices here at the BariatricPal store, Amazon, and EBay and figure out who has the best price and shipping deal combined. Good luck!

    Failure, forgiveness & getting real

I have used GENEPRO. I don't find it completely tasteless, but more importantly it changes the texture of things I put it in and makes it unpalatable for me. The best I did with it was to mix it up with a small amount of Water and add it to chicken broth. That went down quite well. However, my daughter has started drinking fruit smoothies in the mornings, and throws the genepro in and she says she can't tell it's there. I'm trying different things to put it in hoping to find something that goes down easily. I got samples of a bunch of different Protein shakes, and even though I liked one really well pre-op, I didn't tolerate it post-op and had to switch to Premier Protein for my morning "get the protein started" Breakfast.
  15. I purchased Genepro unflavored powder to mix into foods, but I don't like the way it tastes. Even though it doesn't have added flavoring, it still has a taste and I find it unpleasant. I would not drink it in plain water. When adding protein powder into foods, I prefer to use flavored protein powder for sweet foods like yogurt, pudding, applesauce, and oatmeal. I only use Genepro in savory foods like soup, beans, and pureed vegetables.
  16. Perfect, thank you again. I will look into Genepro as well. Yowza, what a learning curve!

    GENEPRO? What's up?

My NUT told me to count it as 17 grams of protein, not 30, but that otherwise it was ok to use. I've been struggling with finding a protein shake I can tolerate. Genepro is the first one I've found that works for me.
  18. GENEPRO, I have seen tons of people love it but lately I have seen LOTS of people warn against it or say no to it? Your thoughts? I use it, I like that I can use it in pretty much anything with no added taste and at any temperature. It worries me that so many people advise against it.
  19. I'm feeling you...my surgery was June 21st as well, and I'm only using RTD Protein as creamer in my decaf coffee. I'm adding a scoop of GENEPRO to my coffee, so that gives me 30g plus maybe 5g from the RTD at Breakfast. I either drink a Syntrax nectar (23g) or add another scoop of Genepro (30g) to a glass of Water with some flavored stevia later in the day, and another to my refried Beans or Soup at lunch or dinner. That gets me to 90 or nearly there, so the third meal is just bonus protein for my day. I'm really impressed with the Genepro product, and I can't tolerate any of the Isopure powders right now :-P

    I'm struggling with muscle loss.

I'm losing muscle mass as well, but I knew I would. I get 80-90g of Protein daily, but with the calorie restriction it's inevitable that we're going to lose muscle mass. You just have to do what you can do mitigate it somewhat, and that's by getting 90g or more of protein and weight training. Sounds like you need to boost your protein intake a bit, I'd get some of the flavorless protein like GENEPRO and mix it with things like chili, etc... Or just a drink. It's 30g of protein in one TBSP serving, so it's a big help. Also, a VERY common misconception on this board is the "carbs are bad, mmkay?" They're not. In fact, a big part of the reason the body catabolizes muscle tissue for energy is a lack of other easy sources. Fat is not an easy source of energy for the body...it's the slowest place for it to pull energy from, actually. Before you lift, you should consume a good amount of carbs. Then protein after. Your body will pull energy from the carbs you ate, and use the protein for muscle maintenance. The good thing is, muscle has memory and when we reach our weight loss goals and can switch to a slight caloric surplus to add muscle mass, it will come back on more quickly than it would for someone who never had it.

    I'm struggling with muscle loss.

@@JodiT140 - @@OutsideMatchInside pretty much got it right. According to the makers of GENEPRO, they have reduced the size of the Protein molecule ala "Honey I Shrunk The Kids" magic. Then they say that what they really did was make a protein that absorbs so fast that it is "like" eating 30 grams of protein. Which again is horseshit. Another problem I have is that there is no verified independent study of the stuff. There are people on this board that swear by it because their blood test came back good after their 6 month or whatever. However unless you are talking more than a year, that could be from breaking down their own muscle tissue or the fact that they are getting the minimum needed from their diet to be in the normal range. Genepro is pretty much just BCAA's (amino acids that build proteins). That would leave protein markers in the bloodstream. But lets just say for a moment that it did exactly as it advertised. It gave you 30 grams of magical protein with only 90 calories. If you are trying to build muscle, believe it or not you are going to need the calories. You can't build new muscle tissue if you don't have enough raw material to prevent atrophy. Genepro would be of no use to anyone wanting to build muscle because it doesn't contribute to a caloric surplus.

    Pre-op diet is a b***h

@@GutBgone Good luck with your journey. Hopefully each day will get better. I think not being able to easily drink water will be an adjustment. Living in Maui where it is warm all year long I constantly drink water. It will be odd not to gulp down 1/2 a bottle in 5 seconds. @@Sutter Phoenix @@megan143 I really like the Unjury chocolate drink....I couldnt handle the smell of the unflavoured Unjury. I did find GenePro Protein to have no taste and no smell. I was able to get a few sample packets for a few dollars so I could test it out before I ordered the big package. Good Luck Everyone.
  24. I was sleeved on 10-21-14. The first week I had no trouble getting my protein and fluids in, the second week, there didn't seem to be enough hours in the day to get my fluids in and I couldn't tolerate even half of one protein shake. Someone here recommended Genepro Protein, so I ordered it. In the meantime, I quit bothering to even open a protein shake...it was just wasteful as I couldn't drink it anyway. It really weighed heavily on my mind. This past week my nutritionist put me on soft, well chewed food (not breads rice, or pastas yet, but pretty much anything else as long as it is chewed well). And, my Genepro arrived yesterday. I thought "thank heavens...I can eat food AND I have protein that I can mix into my food! Now I can be compliant with my protein intake" Um, not so much. I had been collecting recipes that I could eat at this stage, so I started making a new one everyday since Tuesday. I've not been fond of any of them...and I've made a variety of different things. I can't eat any more than 1-2 Tbls per meal or snack, no matter what it is. And it's not because I'm "full", it's because the taste of ANYTHING literally repulses me. I have to mentally prepare myself before I swallow because it just feels soooo disgusting going down. So if I can't eat that means I can't mix my protein, and I'm obviously not eating enough to get my requirements through the food. Well, this evening I decided that maybe I just didn't really like the new recipes so I decided to make something I've made for years and has always been a favorite. Nope. Same scenario. I literally cannot stand food. I am getting depressed because this isn't going the way I wanted. I have the greatest desire to be compliant and I TRY, every single day. It's not about wanting something different or "cheating", it's that I can't eat. My dietician says "you're early out...just keep trying, it'll get better". *sigh* I guess, but I feel like a failure, even though I'm losing (OF COURSE IM LOSING! I'm starving myself to death...this isn't what I wanted!) sorry for the long vent, but I'm so upset this evening.
