    My first NSV

Yippy for you! They will just keep coming from here, Some of my first NSVs were things like putting on non wide calf boots, wearing a normal hotel towel instead of a sheet LOL Walking 3-5 miles and not really feeling much, picking my son up with out heaving him over my hip. losing my shoe size by 2 and having ot buy new shoes, shopping at VS for real size bras and panties. borrowing a skinny friends clothing and them fitting better than on her. Hugging my husband or being intimate with him and feeling very close rather than a body in between us.

    Nervous

I too am nervous...my surgery is Monday. I see that all posters in this thread are alive and well that is a comfort I have been following my liquid diet since last Monday and am hoping it will lead to positive results. I find myself waking up in the middle of the night in a panic. I have had surgery twice before but this one is anxiety provoking on so many levels. I am saying many prayers, and have the support of so many. VST has taught me a lot, and I look forward to posting about upcoming successes and NSVs

Will it ever start to work?

Hi Jini, chances are, it will start working for you soon. Trust me when I say that I don't know if you will lose weight. I've lost 13 pounds since April, so that is a chance that you might be a slow loser. I know that there are few things as frustrating as having weight loss surgery, then not losing any weight. I understand the frustration and the feelings of failure that come with slow weight loss. Do not let the scale dictate to you your sucess. I know, easy words to type, but for your own sense of sanity, you must find some other way to measure your sucess. I strongly suggest starting your list of Non-scale victories, your NSVs. You don't have to post them, but I find it is very helpful to look back at them, and I know that other people find them helpful to look at as well. I wish I could make it all better, make it so you had losses in the numbers like you are looking for. But all I can tell you is that you are not alone. As hard as it is, you are not alone.

How much weight have you lost

Hello Cleone, Great to hear you are doing so well. I started mushies just yesterday. Here's how my day went. My blind brother who lives by himself called me at 4:30 am saying he thinks he's having a heart attack. I tell him to call 911 and get to the ER I will meet him there. I had my granddaughter over for the weekend and we both jumped up and ran. Well turns out he didn't have a heart attack but had a PE, He threw a blood clot to his lung from another blood clot found in his thigh! He gets transfereed by ambulance to another hosiptal 30 min away. Ok, so I had to take my grandbabygirl back to daddy so I could go to be with him, make phone calls and alert other family members and on and on. Grandbabygirl was starving so we made a quick stop at McDonalds. I had a scrambled egg with a little gravy and was amazed at how little I could eat of it. I was under stress of course and was wondering how well I would do with it but seemed to do fine. By the time I got everything situated to get to the other hospital an hour had gone by so I started drinking, drinking, drinking. I get to the other hospital just as other family members are and we check on brother and he is in his room, stabilized and talking, thank God! So now that we have seen him and know he is stable everyone wants to go and eat. We end up at our one of my most favorite places, Chedders. They have fantastic food and the best prices anywhere. I'm thinkging ok, what can I get to eat here. Not a problem. I ordered the catfish which is VERY lightly breaded, mashed potatoes and green Beans. It was the lunch portion but it was HUGE. I felt like I was eating normal and eating a huge amount but by the time I chewed chewed chewed and chewed it some more I had only made a small dent in it and everyone else was done. I can't say I ate till I felt full because I didn't I felt satisfied so I stopped, got a to-go box. Then they had the 'cookie monster" OMG to die for. It has a HUGE choc chip cookie on the bottom, with two huge scoops of homemade vanilla ice cream on top, with the most amazing warm chocolate sauce poured over it with homemade whipped cream and a cherry. She brought four spoons, uh oh. Ok so I took two spoonfuls of the choc sause and ice cream, it was nervana! But it was my first time out to eat in months!!! I did great. So when I got home last night from the hospital, I just whipped out the left overs, this time I measured them and ate it again and it was delish! Again, no 'full' feeling just ate what I measure out, was satisfied, waited an hour after and started drinking again, but man about 9:30 I was exhausted and was ready to crash, made myselft stay up till 10 then went to bed. I still have a huge amount of the lunch leftover, but think I will try different things today. Maybe some refried beans with ff sour cream for Fiber. I haven't had any bathroom issues so far and I have been doing 2 Protein shakes a day since Sept 19. Sorry to go on and on, just wanted to share my day and let you know that under stress I still made pretty good choices and ate and didn't feel deprived at all. I have only lost 19 pounds since I first weighed myself Sept 5th, this is pre and post op, but that's still a little of 3 pounds a week when you put the calculator to it, and I had a nice NSV this morining. Yesterday everyone was saying how they noticed I had lost weight, my DH said I bet you can fit into your next size jeans now and I said no way, I tried them on last week and could button them but no way that zipper was going up, he kept saying I bet you can. Well you all know the disappointment of thinking they will just to find out they won't so I didn't try them on last night. This morning I got up, weighed myself, same weight as last week, but I 'felt' so light. I thought ok, those jeans are my guage so to speak, let's just see where I am. Took them out slid them up, buttoned them and zipped them and they fit just like they used to. Now granted I had to go into a size 20 about 7 months ago when my weight was out of control. Getting into my favorite size 18's today was a victory. Now to get below that and into all the 16's that have been packed away for over 10 years. I can't ever remember being a size 12 in my life so that is my goal, to get into a pair of size 12 jeans because I will have to buy a pair!!!! I know this is long and I'm rambling, but I'm so stoked this morning. I am doing so much better than I thought. No pain since day after surgery, no gas since 5 days after surgery, my incicisons are all healed and looking great, I feel so very very good! I don't want it to end. Me, who in all my previous posts was such a wuss, imagine that. This borad has taught me what to do and most importantly what not to do to avoid as many complications as possible and for that I thank it profusely. Hope to hear back from you soon, I know you are gonna do great, cause we both have another tool that I believe helps a great deal and thank you for that! Blugs! (blessings and hugs) Debbi

Nsv Sure Does Help With The Healing Process

And what is this "only lost 26lbs"?? - that is a whole lot of weight my dear! It wouldn't be I "only gained 26lbs" would it??? Don't be hard on yourself!! You made a positive decision to change your life and every pound and NSV counts towards that goal to be healthy!!

    Nsv!

This past summer my job gave us new shirts to wear. I was unable to fit into mine cause I had accidently ordered a ladies XL instead of a Mens XL. I couldnt even get this shirt past my stomach. Today as I was dressing for work I decided to try it again. It fit perfectly! Then when I went to work I got complimented by my co workers about my weight loss. I guess its easier to see that a person has lost weight when they are not hiding behind such baggy clothing lol

  13. Hello Fellow Bandsters,, Whatever catagory you feel you fit in, you are not alone. We are all on this WL Journey together!!!! I wanted to start thinking about next week. The new year has always aspired me to make commitments and try to do new and different thing. So I bring this to you all to help develop another challenge with a combination of other challenges so loved by all. NSV and Weight in one post. First Start Date, January 3,2006 End Date March 1,2006 Challenge is to list on the same post 1 new NSV (non scale victory) each week along with your WL stats. It would be helpful to date your entries. The reasoning is to keep all your stas and NSV in one place for you and others who are cheering you on to follow. By going back and editing/updating your orginal post we would be back to basic each log in. Rememberng the whys and our accomplishments each week. Something I know I forget sometimes. By the end of the challenge we should have a great idea of how it's going and a quick reference to where we need to be. If you are not yet banded - please join in and tracking your goals and accomplishments as well. This WL thing is truly a team sport and together we can acomplish more! ROAR!!!! Any thoughts, changes suggestions??? We have a week or so to refine it. COuld one of the moderators please sticky this? Debby

I'm posting early because I'll be running around most of the day tomorrow. 1/4/06 Weight = 236 NSV: I bought a size 18/20 belt to hold up my too loose size 22 pants. 1/9/06 Weight = 234 (-2) NSV: I was able to fit into a misses size 20 pants at Old Navy. 1/16/06 Weight = 229 (-5) NSV(s): 1) My mother-in-law came to visit this past weekend and called me a "skinny minnie!" 2) I can now fit comfortably (with room to spare) in those plastic, stackable patio chairs. 1/23/06 Weight = 228 (-1) NSV: I FINALLY had to break down and buy new size 20 clothing because I was tired of my old clothes falling off of me. 1/30/06 Weight = 226 (-2) NSV: I had to move the seat in my vehicle closer to the steering wheel because my butt isn't so big anymore. 2/6/06 Weight = 221 (-5) NSV(s): 1) Our female bowling league partner told me this past Tuesday that I had a nice butt. P.S. She wasn't hitting on me. LOL 2) I fit into and purchased a pair of size 18 shorts. SV: 4 more pounds and I'm halfway to my goal!! :biggrin1:

Delarla, I will paste the Wl list on the first post along with the culumative NSV list. I would like us to focus on both the weight and NSV. We should follow and reward, the best, funniest, or whatever NSV. I've seen some really funny ones in the past. Keep one eye on the scale and the other on life. Thanks for offering a basket that was so nice of you. I'll have to think of something for it too. Glad to hear you're doing better Delarla!

OK I heard the overall consensus so far. 1 (if you want to track more - go for it) NSV Timing - let's wait and here from more people and see what a consensus is. I love the challenges tooo! STICKY PLEASE.

    Frustrated in Kingston

Have you checked for NSV's (non-scale victories) like gatorgal suggested - changes in measurements, the fit of your clothes? You may be replacing fat with muscle. Just the relative amount of water in your body can make a bigger change on the scale than the rate at which we lose weight. I too weigh myself every day too, but I look for the trend over time rather than each weighing.

More gifts, I'm in! NSV, helped my secretary clean her new place, including the refridgerator, I had practically my entire body in that thing, cleaning every inch of it, in a squat position. Before I wouldn't have been able to fit into the fridge, or bed over that long, much less squat, stand, squat, stand, kept getting up to change the nasty Water. AND, I wasn't even sore the next day, but she was, and she's 30 years younger than me, LOL.

I'm starting at 265. I'm off my diuretic for a bit until I can get a new RX, so my weight has gone up. 1/3/2005 - Weight 265 NSV - I was able to walk up my driveway without being breathless. My driveway is a nightmare and has a 20+ degree slope (skateboarder's dream slope though), so this was a feat for me. 1/9/2005 - Weight 261 NSV - I felt like I got back on track this week. In addition to making better food choices, I exercised 5 days out of the 7. 1/16/2005 - Weight 257.4 :clap2: NSV - Clothes felt a bit looser this week. 1/23/2005 - Weight 258.6 I made some lousy food choices this week and reaped the effects. :cry NSV - My waist looks a lot smaller than it did at the beginning. 1/31/2005 = Weight 253 NSV - My husband told me last night that he could really tell that I had lost weight. 5 Week Total = 12 lbs
