None Scale Victories of the week :)

Hey guys I just had to post a little entry about all of my little (or not so little) NSV of the week! (Sorry in advance for all the colors..lol Made me think of being in middle school again. hahaha) So the first thing I noticed this last week was that my rings are getting loose. I have this one ring my sister got for me, and I just love it. It used to fit on my ring finger but I have had to move it to my pointer finger because it was about to fall off the other day... (It used to be tight) Second... I went down a full pant Size!!! Ya know how jeans can vary in size? Well I was in a size 22 when I started and about a week ago I was able to fit into my big 20's... But today I got into my small 20's Oh ya.. And they fit and look good So excited! That is one step closer to being back in the teen digest Third... I can tie my shoes so much easier! I used to have to sit down try to reach for my feet across my huge tummy. Now its no problem Forth... I have noticed that my libido has just launched to a whole new level..lol It seems like every other thought is about sex... ha ha ha... AND!!! to top it off... I have lost 19 inches over my whole body !!!! Yay for me I hope all of you out there are having as much success as I am. I hope your finding the little things that encourage you and push you through each day. Keep your eyes out for the little details that make you smile. Cloths that fit different, The fact that moving is easier, You feel different, You sleep better, your off some meds... etc... What are your none scale victories of the week? Please share!!!!

    Nsv! (one Of My First!)

You got to love all the NSV...you look good, well done!
  5. So, my best sisterfriend and I decided to head to the beauty shop on Saturday afternoon (bad idea!!)... to Celebrate the great weather in Chicago and I desperately needed a TRIM!!! I had several NSVs in the salon.. They included... I sat in the dryer chair (for 2 hours!!) comfortably.. with it digging into my thighs and me having to strategically wedge myself in it! The shampoo cape actually closed around my just fat neck and didn't pop open 2 million times like w/ my previously REALLY fat neck!! My just fat neck actually fit into the shampoo bowl divot w/ ease.. where my previously VERY fat neck wouldn't and I would end up w/ a very wet back!! No Water on my back this time!! My shirt and jacket don't fit any more!! YEAH!!!! I love it!! I'm actually okay w/ my prematurely grey hair.. cause my head is getting smaller!!! (See pic)
  6. There was a tiny spot on a bench seat on the train today. I was able to easily fit my little butt in there. It was easily half the size of any gap I would attempt to sit in pre surgery. Why are my NSVs always about using public transport???

    Up and Down Numbers

First, great work! You've lost more than 50 pounds! Okay, sounds like you've hit that dreded platoue. (gawd, I wish I could spell.) I'm beginning to thing that these are rather on the desirable side, since they give you a chance to get used to your new size. Some speculate that it's the body's way of maintaining it's sanity. I noticed right off you haven't listed any of your NSVs, which in my book, are more important than scale victories, especially given that the scale is a damn lier. Look at how fit you are! WOOT! Have you had a real measurement of your body-fat taken? it could be that you are losing fat and gaining muscle. You didn't publish your weight, but it could be that you have an athletic build and will find that at 180 pounds you have a body-fat of 23%. Woot! In my not so humble opionion, the body-fat percentage is much more important than what the lying lyer of a scale says.
  10. So, when I first started my journey, I met a gal at the support group wearing a super cute dress. A few days later, I ran into her during my post op at the surgeon's office and she was wearing the same dress, so I told her it was cute. She offered me the dress and I said Thanks, but no thanks. I told her it would never fit me, but she told me to have faith that it would! At last week's support group meeting, she told me she had the dress in her car for me. I tried it on today, with absolutely no hope/thought that it would fit today. Well, it does!! LOL I think it's too young for me, and it's definitely too low cut, but I'm posting the picture here, among friends as proof that the dress fits! Nope, I'm not at goal, but I'm crying because I never in a million years thought this dress would fit me and it does. THIS is a true NSV!!! Maybe in another 20 or 30 pounds I'll feel differently, but right now, I will not be wearing this dress in public. I'm pumped, though, to see real, tangible results of all the treadmill, exercise, and recumbent bike time I've put into me! Happy Dancing Today!!
  11. As my hubby said , I was a "cheap date" before surgery, as i cant hold liquor much. 2 was my limit, now im "one and done ." !! I have a cup of regulat tea in the am, decaf the rest of the day. Couldnt tell you about soda pop, I rarely had it before WLS , now its never . . Some people just lose their taste for certain things, but honestly you wont care when your clothes are getting too big ( again ?? ) , the compliments are coming in left and right along with all the NSV s !!! Good luck !!

    NSV...for me :)

We had a big BBQ and usually I can eat as much as 3 grown men. I kid you not! But this is the first holiday I've had the band and I only ate 2 ribs and a serving of greenbeans. I was so full! It felt great eating like a normal person!

    NSV...for me :)

Congrats on your NSV! I can't wait for my first cookout! Hopefully I can eat on my birthday that is on Aug 2nd. I am 4 days out from being banded and hopefully I can have some of my birthday cake! lol

    My first NSV

That's awesome. NSV= non scale victory. something that is not related to the number on the scale.

    My first NSV

A new shoe wardrobe? I think if anything would cause a lady to get the sleeve this would be at least top 5!! Congrats - that is a really good NSV!!! I haven't gone down in size per se. I used to need WW but that was before banding. But, I have noticed I have to tie my laces tighter these days. Getting smaller does work out well!!

    What is your greatest NSV?

Clothes are loose Some clothes that didn't fit last year do now I had to get a ring guard because my ring kept slipping off I can cross my legs again I don't get as winded climbing stairs I can walk for hours (shopping) without any pains I can fit in Victoria's Secret panties I'm noticing men are paying attention to me again, this has been pretty exciting.. even though I have a wondeful man it sure feels good to be noticed again lol My 8 and 9 year old neices noticed that I'm smaller and they're excited about it, that kinda meant alot more than when adults notice. I can't wait for more NSV, I've only just begun. Thank you for this post, I was feeling a little bummed today as I feel like I haven't lost any weight in about a month, I'm getting frustrated. But looking at my list has reminded me of how far I've come.

    Encouragement

Neicy, that's why I posted about this trip... to encourage other bandsters and let them know that their life is just going to get better and better. Hopeful 1, I didn't have a clue what would happen to me after I got my band. I really assumed I'd fall flat on my face. To lose 50 pounds has not been hard at all. In fact, it's been so rewarding to see the NSVs uncovered. I never dreamed I'd fall in love with bicycling and go on beautiful treks. And to be capable of climbing any mountain trail that I wanted - all the way to the top and back down. Well, that has to be one of the most rewarding moments in my life. I've learned that it takes more than just losing the weight. You have to also have some steady form of exercise to build up your endurance. Without the routine bicycling, I would not have had the lung capacity and the leg strength to hit those mountain trails. There were times I was huffing and puffing, but I did it! Again, please let me encourage you to reach out there and attempt things that you might never have even contemplated. You and your family will be so pleasantly surprised. Best of luck to each of you!!!

    Encouragement

That is AWESOME Marie! Isn't it amazing the difference with the weight-loss???!!! I think we are actually very strong from the years of carrying the extra weight... and then... when we lose a chunk of that weight... WATCH OUT LANCE! WTG!!!!!! I love hearing about NSV's... it just makes my day! I was just happy to be able to ride my bike the last few weekends... I got it for Christmas and the beautiful thing had just been collecting dust as it was just too uncomfortable to ride at my previous weight. I am so glad that I am able to enjoy it now and know it will just get easier and easier! Darcy

    A pleasant surprise

Nice NSV and maybe take your daughter to some seminars, she is seeing what you're going through. Ask her if she would be able to deal with it all. And yes if you can help her get to a healthy weight at this young age then it's a great idea. Or maybe ask her to work with you, follow what you are eating and exercise together then if she has really given it her best shot and didn't succeed help her look into banding. My daughter is 15 and my sons 15 and 18 they are all within a healthy weight range. From the day they were born I made it my goal for them to never have weight issues ( highly likely as I did have issues). I kept them active from a really young age and encouraged them to find a sport they loved and would stick too. My daughter choose gymnastics ( been doing it since she was six) she has a beautiful slender strong body, my sons choose rugby and archery ( both fit and muscular), I also cooked every meal, rarely bought them take out and always encouraged them to eat fresh fruit, it's paid off thank god even though I didn't follow my own rules. Lately my daughter has started nagging me about buying her some skinny tea program to loose weight. I keep telling her no and to not start with fad diets ( she doesn't need to loose anything but her friends are all doing it), I keep reinforcing that she needs to eat good Protein, vegetables and hardly any processed foods as she needs good clean foods for the 12 hours of hard training she does every week and if she starts these stupid fad diets her sport will suffer and she can start to mess up her metabolism ( what happened to me over the years). Teach your daughter what she should and shouldn't be eating , I know she is old enough to know but we tend to loose the idea of what's good and what's not, work together as each others support. Best wishes to you both.

Today's NSV... I crashed my bike and didn't get injured/killed. When I was 360 I was petrified of crashing because with all the force from my weight, I could get really injured from just a minor crash.. Today, I had a minor crash and was more worried about the bike than me... and we're BOTH fine!

I had an NSV today, I started at 474+ lbs, I'm down 220 lbs, a friend threw me off balance today, she is a good 20 lbs heavier then I am now days... I've always been able to stand my ground... I wear an XL tshirt and not only do I not have to stretch them before putting them on, but the are lose!! I'm excited to see the number 254 even though it is the starting weight oh so many of my support group members! I actually have to turn down hand me downs because they would be too big for me.

    Couch to 5k

Any of you fellas (vets or newbs) doing or completed a couch to 5k program? I have this NSV goal of running a 5k with my two older kids. My 8th grade daughter does cross-country/track and my 6 grade son will likely do both as well when he is in 7th grade next year. I'm currently at 335lbs, and usually don't have much problem walking 2+ miles at an 18 min/mile rate. Curious if any of you guys started a C25K program at a similar size... all tips are welcome.

    Help :(

Definitely, definitely, definitely STOP WORRYING If you search past (and even current) posts here you will read about the dreaded week 3 stall....there is even one by me!!!! You have to keep in mind that after losing so much weight so quickly your body needs time to adjust to that weight. I will also tell you that stressing out over it can make it worse. Just keep doing what you're doing and TRY not to focus on the number on the scale....it's just a number!!! Instead, focus on the NSV's (non-scale victories). When I hit the 3 week stall (which lasted 2 weeks BTW), I took my measurements and even though I hadn't lost ANY weight in two weeks, I had lost several inches....proof that the scale can, at times, be my worst enemy!! So, don't beat yourself up....you're doing great!!!!
