    Metformin post surgery

I haven't had a Metformin since the day after surgery. All you did was hit the dreaded 3-week stall like almost everyone else on this board, I doubt that the Metformin had anything to do with you losing weight again (I'm not a doctor so take that for what it's worth). Personally, start tracking your glucose every day (twice a day if possible) if you aren't already and show it to your doctor and insist you be taken off of it asap if you don't need it. There's a risk of it driving your glucose too low once you've lost enough weight.

    Perplexed - no weight loss?

There is a lot of swelling and tissue trauma after surgery. Once this goes down, you will see that scale go down, too. Once a started losing again, the weight was coming off at 1 pound per day. WOW! I thought I was going to be one of those super-losers! But now I am at the 3 week stall. It is so good to know that this is common. Just gotta keep doing the right things and be patient. It will come off when it's ready.

2 weeks post op-- and stalled?

I'm in the middle of mostly a 3 week stall. I'm 0-3-0 for the last 3 weeks. It's going to happen. Mostly your body is adjusting, and you are going into starvation mode. My nut is on my case to eat something every 2 hours, and I am trying but mostly just forget to do so. It will turn around. Just hang with it.

    Purée and stall?

I'm definitely experiencing the 3 week stall. I've lost only .6 lbs in the last 3 days. I've walked and know I've been consuming less than 1000 calories a day. Alittle scary, considering the cravings (sacrifices) I have had to repeatedly push down. After losing weight so rapidly within the first 2 weeks, this is a bit upsetting. I want to desperately get out of the 300s.

How Much Did U Lose U First Month

Just let it happen. If you hit the 3 week stall, it will only stress you out more. Just enjoy the process and let your body heal while you work on new healthy eating behaviors.
  6. So, I hit my 3-week stall on Wednesday, and now it's Sunday. My stall has already vanished and I've lost an extra FOUR pounds since yesterday. Is this even normal? Yesterday, I did eat a TON of Protein. I mean, I ate so much that I thought I screwed up my diet. I ate like 5 pieces of beef tataki and 5 pieces of crab sticks. This is a lot to me considering it made me feel extremely full. I'm hoping my scale isn't wrong. I got on it 3 times and it keeps saying the same thing (229), and yesterday I weighed 232. It's my 4th day of PMSing so maybe the Water I was retaining has shed off of me, and I also had my first bowel movement yesterday since 3 days ago, (sorry TMI). Am I getting my hopes up? Or is this even possible?
  7. Hello, So I am 12 days post op and I have a few questions, actually. First, I am still on my full liquid phase. I start purees tomorrow. 1. How to tell if my pouch is full? I'm not really sure what I feel. I do get the hiccups if I drink too much. I'm trying to "feel" whatever it is I'm supposed to, but still not quite sure. I know when I'm not hungry and I haven't pushed my pouch at all. I haven't eaten or drank anything I'm not supposed to...is this why I don't know what it is that my pouch is full 2. Can my pouch even get full on liquids? I know that food can fill it up because it takes time to digest and filter through the stoma, but do liquids work differently? Does it just kind of go right through? 3.I think I've hit a stall. It's been like 4 days since the scale has budged!!! The 2 weeks before surgery I lost 13 pounds and then the week after I lost another 10. Could this be my 3 week stall??? I'm frustrated hitting a stall only a week after surgery. 4. Is marinara sauce okay to eat on pureed stage? I made some beef stew with it, but wondering if this is good because I know it has sodium and some sugar (from the tomatoes). 5. I still have a bruised feeling in the left part of my belly near some of my incisions. Is this normal? I feel like it should be gone by now. It isn't constant, but with certain movements. It is the worst when I lift my arms over my head and stretch out my belly. I don't have a fever or anything like that. 6. I get dizzy and light headed when I bend over. And slightly out of breath? Does anyone know why this happens and when it will go away? Please help!!!
  8. So I guess I hit a stall. I'm still 226. That 3 weeks stall everyone talks about I only mine was 2 1/2 weeks. I'm not gonna stress about it. I'm not gonna stress about it. Yeah right. I don't like it one bit. Wonder how long it lasts? But on the positive Side I'm not gaining. Time to read what people do during stalls to speed things up. Wish me luck.

    Getting frustrated

This sounds about right. There’s something doctors and others call a “3 week stall” where your body is recovering water lost and rebuilding the stores it expended during the first week or so of very low calorie/healing. The stall can happen earlier for some (it happened at the 10 day mark for me), or a week or two later. Regardless of when it happens, it usually lasts 1-3 weeks (mine lasted a week) and breaks as long as you stick with your guidelines. YouTube has some great info videos on this stall, worth checking out!

I violate thermodynamics and it's crap

Girllllll it's WAY too early to start freaking out. First off, you often GAIN anywhere between 5-15 lbs from the fluids they pump into you and swelling. That can take a couple of weeks to shake off, plus your surgery involves a lot of sutures- so again SWELLING. Secondly, your body has just been through what it perceives as a trauma; it's a whole lot of chaos as far as it's concerned and it may take a little while to get with the program you have in mind. Lastly, there's that damned 3 week stall thing... Mine came at about 2 or 2.5 weeks... and lasted more than 3 weeks from there. It was very disheartening, but it did break eventually! (And I've had smaller stalls since, I've learned to live with it.) It's not a race, it's a marathon, and really this is a lifestyle change. RE: when you "get to look ok"? WLS patients have a lot of body dysmorphia issues. In your mind, you may get to your goal and still not feel like that. It's something to address with a counselor, setting your expectations realistically. (I may be wrong, you may have realistic expectations but are expressing it as part of this general frustration.) Generally, I think you are being too hard on yourself and need to be a kinder to yourself during this process. You're doing all the right things. Everyone who goes through this is afraid it won't work for them. Give it some time and keep doing what you're doing. Maybe contact your surgeon about what your expectations should be; this type of surgery is pretty new, so it may be a little different. It'll be ok, just give it time.
  11. Hi all. I am now in the dreaded 3 week stall and I am trying really hard not to freak out about it because it is sort of expected, at least out here in "patient land". My Dr.Never mentioned it. The question is do you think that we elders lose slower than the youngsters? I am 4 weeks post op, I am in a stall and I have only lost 9 lbs since surgery, at least according to my scale. (The Drs scale reads heavier, but that is due to randon times of day, fully dressed vs buck naked, etc) If you include pre-op diet, I have lost a more respectable 21 lbs and over all I am happy with that, but I guess I was expecting more. I feel like I am eating nothing getting in my 70 gs of Protein and 7-900 cals/day. Barry

    Losing slower?

I hit that 3 week stall at like a week and a half. It lasted a full 3 weeks and since then, I have been losing very slowly. Same as you with calories and Protein. I've been working out 4-5 days a week as well. I have a follow up appt today and am taking my food journal in to my dietitian to see if she has any ideas.
  13. Congratulations ! I was sleeved the next day on the 8th. High weight was 228. Surgery day was 216 and today 198 !!! Also lost 6 inches of my dreaded belly fat ! Yahoo! Luckily I didn't have the 3 week stall.
  14. well I got over the 3 week stall!!! I am now on week 4 pureed foods but not even hungry for them. Getting my 64 gms of protein, and drinking my fluids. Lost 2 lbs so far this week!!! YAY!!!!
  15. I too have hit that 3 week stall. I have lost 32 lbs including preop and havent lost anything in a week or so. I try and just stay calm and focus on getting my Water in (which is my biggest challenge) I have also taken a sabbatical from the scale.
  16. So glad to hear about the 3-week stall.. I too have stalled at 3 weeks and even gained 2 pounds.. I'm suppose to start soft foods on Thursday... I was worried I was eating to much soup..LOL.. But all this sounds pretty normal.. The only difference is, I don't think I'm getting enough fluids or protein.. I need to work harder on that... So nice to be able to read about everyone and share.. Thanks!

    THE GIFT

That’s a great idea though I’m not sure I could do it. I weigh myself every day (I know I’m crazy and obsessed - no need to tell me - LOL!) I’m only 10 weeks post-sleeve but I’m so nervous about gaining back any of the weight I’ve lost. I don’t freak if I stay the same (I had a 3 week stall) but I do NOT want to gain!! Maybe I could start slow and do every other day?!!! :)
  18. If you don't mind, what are your stats? I think you are a couple of weeks ahead of me. Everyone keeps mentioning a 3 week stall. I am starting that tomorrow. I am 47 and need to lose around 56 pounds.

    Texas Forum?

I got sleeved in Mexico 5 weeks ago. I am doing great. I have always been a fast healer and this surgery was no exception. The only issue I had was getting wore out extremely easy after moving around. I hsve lost 36 pounds. The first 32 pounds came off in the first two weeks. I just dropped the other four after a 3 week stall. I am very happy so far.

yes - if you do a search here for 3 week stall -you'll see TONS of information. I"ve not been sleeved yet, but I already know that this is perfectly normal and to just ride it out as your body makes adjustments

Learning To Eat Again And Very Slow Weight Loss

Hey hun. It sounds like you hit that famous 3 week stall. 3 weeks after surgery I see tons of posts that people hit a stall for 2-3 weeks. Trust me, you will start losing again.
  24. Whew! I was gonna be really mad at myself if I had already screwed this up! I have a Protein shake in the morning, then some cream of wheat for lunch, and either a scrambled egg or some refried Beans w/cheese for dinner. Last night I just started on some tuna. Im eating around 700-800 calories a day. I'm getting my protein & Water goal, but I also did have a 3 week stall. Basically, the only week I've lost is the week of my surgery. The nurse practitioner kinda got on to me for not losing any more (15 lbs post-op) and for eating too much. ???? I've only had pain a couple of times and then it was one bite I was fine, then the next bite just put me over the edge. I don't know if I've encountered any slider foods yet, I'm not sure I'd recognize it if I did! Thanks for the reassurance y'all!

    How much weight? How fast?

I had surgery 6/30. RNY. Lost 24 lbs in the first week (including the 2 days liquid pre op). And..... nothing since. I've been in a 3 week stall. Everyone says its normal. I saw my dr a couple of days ago for my one month follow up. She said once I start taking in more calories it'll start dropping. I've gone into starvation mode and my body is waiting for more nutrition. Ok. I'll be patient...
