    TMI warning

Just curious. I have really been struggling with irregularity. I haven't had those issues in over 18 years. But I may go 3 days and things get pretty backed up. Does anyone else have these issues? Solutions? Our doc recommends Milk of Magnesia, but it does nothing for me.
  2. Hey guys! I’ve been struggling with lately and now I’m getting scared. I’m sorry if this is tmi but I need some advice. My bowels are hard little pebbles and are covered in this yellow/white jelly like mucus. What’s going on?
  3. I know, it is a little TMI. Even so, since being banded 5 months ago, I am full of gas! My belly hurts all the time from gas pain. The best relief is to just let it all out! Also, I have not had a normal (as in presurgery normal) bowel movement since being banded. I'm always having to strain to get something going or it is the runs! Geez!! Do you experience any of this?!?!

Yaz and other BC Pills for PCOS

There will likely be some TMI in this post so consider yourself warned lol. BCPs are horrible little buggers for me. The ONLY one I can take and not be COMPLETELY miserable is Ortho-cyclin (NOT ortho-tri-cyclin). The others are horrible, and Yaz was the worst for me. I practically hemorrhaged during AF while I was on it. I would soak a super plus tampon before I could even stand up off the pot and get re-dressed. On top of that AF lasted TWO weeks not one!! I tried the Mirena and I would have taken the yaz over that any day. I had migraines, dizzy spells, hot flashes, night sweats, gained 60 pounds in the 6 months I had it (I am a big girl but I don't gain weight THAT fast and as soon as it was removed I lost about half of it so....), had a horrible scraping feeling in my uterus, severe stabbing pains every time I climaxed, the list goes on and on. All we can use are condoms or withdraw. I swore off hormonal BC after the Mirena. JMHO, but when you add hormones into hormonal chaos you are asking for trouble, at least that is the way it has played out for me.

Dang it! Dang it! Dang it!

Welcome to bandland! I wasn't hungry for more than a week following surgery so I can't help you there except to recommend Isopure which is a great source of Protein - 40 grams per 20 oz bottle - and it's clear so it won't interfere with your Clear liquids program. I recommend the blue Isopure as the one that tastes the best. Well, tastes the least like a Protein Drink anyway! I understand that the protein will help you feel fuller or at least less hungry for a longer period of time than broth and other clear liquids alone. I will also recommend Benefiber mixed into broth or Isopure. Most people go through a period of the runs - not to put it too delicately! - followed by a period of constipation. In my experience, Fiber helps with both phases. The pain in the left side of your neck is probably from gas. Either that or referred pain from your esophogus (sp?). I got the best gas pain relief by standing next to my bed, bending forward from the waist and putting my forearms on the bed with my forehead resting between. You can bend your knees to make it a little more comfortable. It looks a little crazy but it really helped with gas pains for me - they went away after only a couple of days, for which I was very grateful. I think the fiber, passing gas, and moving the bowels did a lot to help with recovery from the gas pain. I know, TMI! But if it will help even one person . . . Good luck to you and please stay in touch with us at LBT.

    Loose skin?

My stomach has been hanging forever, but my boobs lost the weight first and I'm doen a cup size (was small to begin with) and they're incredible saggy (sorry if TMI) I'm just hoping my somach doesn't hang too much further but I concluded a long time ago that there is a tummy tuck in my future.

    I LOVE TO POOP!

Is it common not to poo after surgery. This may be TMI, but I go almost every time I use the restroom. I will be sleeved on December 12th.

    So. Much. Burping.

Warning, TMI..... I have belched and burped since surgery, and have a lot of flatulence. Thank god it doesn't smell, but I have to be careful it isn't a little moist..... sorry. As for bowel movements....two very small, extremely hard and painful motions onky, in 11 days. Sigh....

    Water - Favorite Cup

I have NEVER been able to do 64 oz of liquid a day even without a pouch. Im just not a drinker. I'm drinking as much as I can and making sure my urine is pretty clear which means I'm hydrated. (I know TMI) I try to do no less than 40. The PA told me that was the min. It's just hard...

    Not Loosing Wieght

Wheetsin, Really? Even mild dehydration? Because the first night I got a headache happened to be a day I had cried a lot. My only day of crying really. It was the first week and hormones you know.. Anyway, I thought because (excuse the TMI) that since my urine was not bright yellow that it wasn't the fluids. But maybe later on during the night the crying caught up with me. I will pay closer attention and see if this is a pattern. Thanks! And thanks everyone else who said it may be the fluids. I hope it is as simple as that..

    Sex!

Of course my feelings are hurt, and I feel like its all me. He's the type of person that thinks he's just fine and never the problem so I agree with the testosterone check. Tmi...I know!
  13. Ok. This is a little embarrSsing to ask but we' re all going thru the same thing and we are here to help eachother. One issue that I have had trouble with since day 1 is CONSTIPATION! I hate it. I understand that its not like before obviously, because we are not intaking as much, but its all bad for me. After a few days I feel super bloated. Has anyone experienced the same issue? If so what has helped you? Sweet

    Constipation Club

I also ended up in the hospital impacted. Do not wait until it is to late. I went through Colace, Milk of Magnesia, Miralax, SF Metamucil and would still have to use an enema to really feel relieved. TMI...I know. I have a very lazy colon and bowel but didn't know it. So now I am on Amitiza. A prescription medication for people who have severe constipation or IBS. Hopefully when I implement more foods things will improve but for now it seems to be doing the job.

Renewedhope is Headed for the Flatlands

Ok, This may be TMI, but what to do, what to do??? TOM should come visit me about 2 days after my surgery. YUCK!! How do I deal with this with the compression garment and all. My compression garment will be crotchless. Can I wear panties over it with a pad without making a mess. I can wear tampons if I need to. They make me cramp a little worse, but I can deal, but will I be able to mange that on my own. DH is a saint and will be home to help me, but tampons?? I don't want to ask him to put my tampon in. Oh dear, what a dilema.

    Today I Start

Congrats on the path you are taking!! I struggled a lot with my pre op diet but I stuck with it for the most part. It really does help with shrinking your liver. For some reason the Premier shakes made me constipated. I know...TMI! But just FYI in case it happens. I live off of the Atkins shakes. They are my life line!

    Lactose intolerance

I am pre-op, but was finding that the foods I've been eating are just not making me feel well. I've always suspected that I may have an intolerance to wheat, but not sure about anything else. So, I went on an 'exclusion diet' and removed all dairy, gluten (wheat, rye, barley, and oats), eggs, citrus, alcohol, and caffeine from my diet for two weeks. I chose these because after much reading on the internet, these seem to be the most common food intolerances. There are more complex exclusion diets, but this was hard enough to follow as it is. Luckily, I have a friend who has celiac disease (allergy to gluten) so she was able to help me understand what foods are gluten free and which ones aren't. Anyway, after the two weeks of excluding this all from my diet, then I introduced one at a time (not faster than one every three days). So far what I've found is I have intolerance to onion (goes right through me - horrible cramps and diarrhea). Even though this wasn't something I had purposely excluded, it just so happened that I didn't have much onion in anything until the 10th day in. I had been feeling great, then bam, the onions made me feel awful. I didn't quite see the connection at first, but then it happened again the next time I prepared something w/a lot of onion. The next thing I identified as a problem is dairy, but I seem to have a threshold w/it. A little dairy is fine. If I have more than a normal serving or multiple dairy items in one meal, I feel sick to my stomach, and get diarrhea again. Sorry, if TMI. Finally, I just reintroduced wheat products today and haven't had any GI symptoms, but VERY noticeable lethargy/tiredness after eating. And, I didn't eat a lot of wheat. I had popcorn chicken (that has breading on it) and a cookie. Then, took a 2 hour nap. Interestingly, prior to the exclusion diet, I was feeling exhausted every afternoon and most days needed a nap. Since the exclusion of wheat, I had not needed naps anymore.
  18. * TMI Alert * So this AM, it actually wasn't bad at all (at least the pooping part). Now the holding in suppository was another story... First I have to mention that Mr. was not down with doing suppository last night in the end, he wanted to wait the full 24 hours as per the packaging for Take Two. Now, yesterday I had the suppository in less than 2 mins before I started to feel the urge, which resulted in pooping out just the suppository. Boo. So this morning I kept that sucker in there for 15 minutes despite the fact that I could feel my body already wanted to go after 2 mins. Not sure if that was a good thing (cuz it took some real effort NOT to go), but at the end of those 15 mins, I was rewarded with a long-ish snake like poop that slid out with minimal effort. YAY!!! I was expecting a bunch of watery stuff to follow, but that was it. Which leads me to suspect that there is still stuff up in there (plus I still feel relatively bloated). So Miralax/Clearlax, Benefibre, Chia is going back into my daily diet until I start to feel normal again. Finally, I didn't do a before and after weigh in, LOL that was the last thing on my mind a the time. In fact I haven't done a "real" weigh in since surgery. I did do one fully clothed and constipated yesterday and it was 115, which was my weight the morning of surgery. Right now all I care about is fitting back into my jeans!! (oh and the ability to stand up straight would be awesome too)
  19. Hi. I was sleeved on 4/14 so I am just over a week out. I had my one week appointment yesterday and every thing was fine. I feel fine, no pain, no problems. I get my fluids down and my protein in. Sorry if this is TMI, but I just went to the bathroom. I had diarrhea. It was dark pink/red and turneed the toilet water pink. If it happens again, I will definitely call the surgeon. My question is, I just had Torani Sugar free Rasberry syrup for the first time today mixed in some runny cream of rice. I have never had it before. Could that be the source of the color? Just wanted to ask and see if anyone else uses Torani and has had this happen to them. Thanks!
  20. Most insurance now days requires a medically supervised diet. Generally it ranges anywhere from 3 months to a full year. My own was 6 months, but it also took an extra 2 month to schedule my surgery due to the fact that they were overbooked, so for me it was 8 months. Maybe your surgeon is just used to patients having a longer requirement and is just concerned that maybe you'll struggle with the dietary requirements and getting used to eating in a new way? But, honestly? Although I DID diet before my surgery I don't eat the same way as I did now during that time. I took my weight loss phase of my surgery to learn how to eat healthier and how to do it in a sustainable way since this is not a 'diet' but rather a life change. You have to learn to eat in a healthier way for the rest of your life, but you want to do it sustainably. I had to learn how to work in foods that I loved, but do it in moderation. Because I do not want to be a statistic in weight loss surgery failure. I do NOT want to gain my weight back! Hell, I cry if I'm up 1 pounds over what I consider my 'comfort range' (the top of my comfort range is 191. My secondary maintenance weight range is 186-191. I say secondary because my original maintenance range for an entire year was 179-183, but in your second year leading up to your third year post op you gain some weight back. It's normal. It sucks and I had massive issues with it which is probably part of what is causing my chronic anxiety, but I'm allowing myself to not freak out as long as my weight doesn't go over 191 at the heaviest. I'm 189 today. And sorry if that's TMI. I'm an aspie so sometimes I overshare what others see as pointless info.). Anyway, you are the one who knows yourself best and if you feel that you can be successful in three months then go for it! Also, welcome to the forums and I wish you the best on your weight loss journey! It's a difficult one, but incredibly fulfilling! 😊
  21. I may not see it so much yet in the mirror, but I can definitely feel a difference from losing the first 21 pounds off my body. I can walk up stairs without being out of breath, I can sleep on my back without being woken up from my gasping snores. My size 18 pants fit loosely while I was wearing size 22 my blood pressure has been normal ever since. This one is TMI, but after I clean myself after using the bathroom, I am not short of breath like I just walked up a hill. I noticed I'm smiling more, and that people are smiling at me. I guess I used to not have good eye contact lol. I can walk in a mall with my energized hubby n son and not have to stop n sit for a few minutes because I'm tired, and my back hurts. So far this is just a few things I've noticed. Can't wait to keep going ! Can't wait to see what 50lbs loss will do to my body! Thanks for listening!
  22. Hey everyone! I'm being banded on the 27th too. I have been doing a 2 week preop diet. The first week consisted of 2 protien shakes (at least 15g of protien and no more than 200 calories) and then one meal (4oz of lean meat and 1/2 cup veggies). The second week is 4 protien shakes a day. Both weeks I can add sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, and broth. The last day (Sunday) is clear liquids only. My first three days were REALLY hard. Day 2 fell on my birthday and it was hard not to "celebrate" especially since this year was the big 3-0 and I was pretty excited about another landmark number LOL. But I stuck to program and day 4 was much easier. I did get permission to have a drink at my party on Saturday though - so that was okay. I haven't been hungry this week at all and have actually been having to force myself to get all my drinks in. I haven't even been supplementing with jello, popsicles, or broth. I have gotten a few hunger pains but it's like it's just easier to ignore them. Last I checked (a few days ago), I was about 5 lbs down from the beginning of the preop. I need to get a new scale at home though - i don't trust the one i have, it's never consistent. As far as Christmas goes, I'm a little disappointed that I won't get to have some of my dad's amazing turkey and dressing or anything else. What i think I may do though, is make a plate for when I can eat again. My doc only has me on liquids for 2 days after surgery and then move on to mushy food for the next 11 days then slowly start adding solids back in. He suggests adding things in slowly so that if I have a problem - I can pinpoint what the problem foods are. So I should be able to have some of the Christmas meal on Thursday - maybe it'll be okay for a few days. If not... well, I'll be fine. It'll all be worth it in the end. On a side note, this week has been super emotional for me. I mean, i'm on my cycle (sorry if TMI) so that makes me a little prone anyways but I'm also pretty scared. I've NEVER had surgery or been on any pain medication so I'm a little nervous as to how I will react.
  23. Okay... I think I just need to vent or to get support or just encouragment from some one/some where. I was banded September 7. Since the pre-op, I am down 16 pounds.... Yeah its not bad since I have been eating normal food and not on a strict restriction yet. Just had my first fill 2 weeks ago, Im at 2cc now. Problem is.... as above... I am eating normal and not super restricted. I don't even think that THAT is the problem cause I DO notice a change in how often and how much I eat... The real problem is... this whole halloween thing... ya know, ya buy candy 3 weeks before cause its on sale and ya eat half of it before the day comes... YEAH THATS the problem... well, the day has come and gone... now what... I am and have always been a Junkfood Junkie... I have an addiction which I have been trying to control.... Okay so I recognize where I failed myself but now... how do I focus again... I don't think I have gained any weight (yet) due to my downfall but then again, since last week, I refuse to get on the scale until another 2 weeks (after my next period-TMI sorry).... I beat myself up for my issues but I recognize the problem and okay sooo I screwed up.. fine... but I need to focus again... ITS SOOO HARD... SOOOOO please someone, give me words of inspirations... words of guidence... How do I motivated myself to get up at 5:45 to go to the gym before work without being cranky, resentful and miserable? Something? Anyone? Funny thing is that I have PLENTY to motivate me but those things aren't motivating me. Geeessssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Please let tomorrow bring me the inspiration, motivation and dedication!!!!! THANKS for listening... ummm reading.... lol (if anyone bothered!
  24. I'm so sorry to be reading this...and I agree with NWgirl. It does seem way too early to be on mushies. I had to continue my liquid diet for an entire 2 weeks post op. Initially I found it impossible to get all of the fluids I was supposed to have every day, but do your best. Your diet seems high on carbs... Nausea is also a common symptom of dehydration, which can be very serious. So serious that I ended up being sent to the ER by my surgeon to have IV fluids to replenish what I had lost during an illness. I would not wait, but get in touch with the surgeon asap. In the mean time, I would begin to try to sip as much water as I could tolerate, and back off of the food. As I gradually regained proper hydration, my nausea resolved. When the system is upset, it is best to make certain to have fluids, and maybe focus on protein shakes. As for the constipation, TMI...when little goes in, little comes out (sorry to be so graphic). But being constipated is no fun. I take a stool softener, and milk of magnesia when necessary. You are going through both healing and major adjustments now...but get in touch with the surgeon or go to the ER... I pray you will feel better fast...keep us posted on how you are.

    Urinary Catheters

I didn't have one, which surprised me a little bit. Five years ago I had a hysterectomy (warning -- TMI ahead!) and for some reason the doctor did catheterize me but didn't give me an enema or anything beforehand..... and I had a bowel movement all over the operating table in the middle of surgery. What a nightmare for the doctor and nurses!!! And a very near-nightmare for me.... talk about contaminating the operating field. The doctor was extremely worried that I would get an infection, and for 5 days they gave me 4 different antibiotics intravenously. I was lucky -- no infection. But that experience did make me ask the bariatric surgeon about precautions for the lapband surgery. He said he was very surprised my gynecologist didn't give me an enema before surgery, but that it wasn't necessary for the lapband and neither was a catheter. My surgery was at 1:00 pm and I hadn't had anything to eat or drink since midnight the night before so I guess my system was pretty well cleaned out by then!
