  1. You are doing great! More than a diet this has been a learning experience for you. I’m happy for you that you are so self aware. I believe you will do well because you know where you went wrong. It’s impossible to stop bad habits if we’re unaware of them. Day 6 and we going strong [emoji123] For some reason I can’t wait to get to day 7 Bc I think I’ll feel like I’m passed the F* this point [emoji28] Yo-Yo Girl from New York City

I would just go to Mexico and skip all the BS!
  3. Real food for thought (probably the only real food I'll be eating today). Despite not being a religious person, the serenity prayer came to mind: "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference. " You cannot change your brain (completely [yet]), and that's a struggle, but you definitely (should) have the courage to change, and the wisdom to know your limits. Surgery just modifies your anatomy. As effective as it is, it's still a crutch. It buys you time to develop habits, to rewire years of mistreatment of yourself to the point where you got yourself sick. And the sooner people see obesity as a sickness, the sooner people will stop that body acceptance BS that some people are perpetuating. Four words to remember: YOU. ARE. KILLLING. YOURSELF. And any reasonably sane human, under the threat of imminent demise should instinctively jump on damage control mode. It's basic survival instinct. And after being aware of it, like any self preserving ecosystem should purge itself of the problem as efficiently as possible. So accept something that's sub par? Hell no. Would you drive with a flat tire? Would you jump of a plane with a faulty parachute? From the moment you take the decision to undergo surgery it's to solve the problem. And that's the only mindset that should prevail. Of course you can falter or even fail, and in that case is back to the drawing board until you get where you need to go. Falling is acceptable, standing up is indispensable. TL;DR: Hell no.

    Unflavored protein powder

My favorite is NorCal grass fed unflavored. It needs mixing in cold liquids but all whey does. I feel it is the healthiest. I don’t use any other.
  5. We are still trying to determine if mine will cover a new surgery so I may be out of pocket too. I’m so glad you are feeling better. I went to two doctors about my band too and they said there was no slip or erosion so my insurance won’t cover the removal. My doctor now is trying to work with me on getting my insurance to approve the removal as a medical necessity so I’m hoping it all works out bc the band is miserable.
  6. I’m scared of buying too much for my post op Bc if my tastebuds go crazy I won’t know who to give these things to. I’m going to buy very little and just try it and see if I tolerate it. Initially I wanted to stack up and have everything that way I could be prepared. Yo-Yo Girl from New York City
  7. I’m glad to hear this since I’m going in for VSG on 5/10! One question though: was it gas pain or the pain from the co2 they pump in during the surgery? Also, my doctor only starts you out on Tylenol because they said most people don’t need pain meds. I think that sounds like bs. Thoughts on that? HW: 311 CW: 258 SW: We’ll see on May 10! Face 2 Face Friday (ok Thursday)

@FatGuy5000Your eyes are amazing! Don’t you think they stand out even more? I meant to start doing what you’re doing with weekly face pics. Did it once and it fell by the wayside. Anyway, your skin is also looking very good. I’d swear you had a facial! Keep up the grind bc you’re getting it done! FatGuy no more, now you’re ThinGuy. 🐈
  9. I think my surgeon told me a weight that was attainable. I took two weights in my head and those are it. I have been as small as 160s (barely and for a short time) but I've been there when I was younger so I know it's possible. I'm 5'5" my hw was 302, had my surgery on 4/17/18 weighed 292.9 on 4/2/18. Yesterday I weighed 269. But I'm 2 weeks out. Anyways here's my goals, I will ALWAYS be overweight by medical standards Female- 38 years old HW: 302 Last dr. Weight 292.9 Surgery weight- 283 CW: 268 GW 1: 180 GW 2: 160 Healthy weight/BMI: 143 With my bone and body structure I would look like I was dying at 143, even 153. I got sick was in the hospital and was down in the 160s and loooked good but sort of sickly and gaunt. So I guess long story short. I desperately want to be under 200 pounds, THATS my goal!! I want to feel and look good. The numbers are numbers. I think BMI is BS.

    One week post-op and hungry!

I had hunger too and it was not head hunger. You’re hardly eating anything...of course, some of us feel legitimately hungry. I found if I kept busying myself the hunger would pass after around 20 minutes. If you’re not already, make your best efforts to get your protein bc that may help. [emoji258]

    Alabama BCBS

I have Fed Blue, but my approval letter and everything came from BCBS of Alabama and they're paying 100% of surgical costs. All I had to pay out of pocket were the co-pays for dr. visits.
  12. I don't know about the body just "letting unneeded calories go." That hasn't been my experience. My body is EXTREMELY thrifty and finds some damn way to assimilate the billions of crap cals I've fed it over the years! LOL. My bowels do slow down if I down regulate my fiber volume.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I hope so too. I hope all this data I'm collecting will be worth something in the end, if for no other reason than to at least get me some answers. I am non-compliant on my C-PAP (because I can't tolerate the damned thing while sleeping) but when I was Poudre Valley Hospital recovering from the surgery, I was able to use it without issue but coming home, no such luck. What they told me when I called the nurses station at the surgery unit was that they fed oxygen into the C-PAP, which would make sense as the solution as it's something that they were doing there that wouldn't carry over to when I got back here. I'm hoping I can speak with my GP and she can order it with oxygen just so we can try it and see how it goes. Of course, given the fact that they didn't initiate C-PAP at all during my last sleep study, there's every possibility that I might not have sleep apnea anymore.

    Birth Control

I scheduled a gyn. Appointment shortly after my surgery for this reason. But I do not want an IUD. I don’t like the idea of having that in my uterus and I have heard too many horror stories from friends/families. I hope to continue with the good ole pill form of bc.
  15. I’m so jealous! I can’t wait to be where you’re at bc this liquid diet is killing me. I’m expecting post op liquid stage to be much easier because it just has to be. Being full after a few sips sounds good to me but being this hungry after 5 shakes is torture [emoji30] I’m such a complainer lol Yo-Yo Girl from New York City

    Birth Control

I have a friend who's body is very very sensitive to BC, and even after her sleeve it hasn't changed. She just uses condoms with her husband and is very careful! It's been something like 6 years and no unplanned pregnancy! However, if you know yourself and that's cutting it too close, go ahead with the pill, obviously lol. Good luck

    Lower Abdominal Pain

Oh and I slept in a recliner for nearly a month. Couldn’t lay flat bc of the pain. After that, improved rapidly. HW 356 CW 267 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18

    Birth Control

Hello everyone! I know I need o get on some kind of BC for after my surgery but I'm unsure on which to get. The dietitian recommended getting an IUD because sometimes after surgery your body will absorb medications differently than before. I don't know much about an IUD but my main concern is weight gain or stalling postop. Does anyone have any experience they'd be willing to share? Also, if I do get the IUD, should I get it before my surgery or shortly after?

  20. Don’t worry. I’ve had a few stalls. It’s so frustrating bc I know I’m doing everything right. Just keep on doing your thing. Be consistent w your protein, water and vitamins. HW 356 CW 267 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18
  21. I had DS surgery on 3/16/18. I'll be cleared for veggies, fruits and wheat bread in a few days. I can't have anything with a lot of fiber right now. I am not tracking anything yet bc I want to wait until I can eat everything. Breakfast is a premier protein shake, maybe scrambled eggs. I have these 1 cup containers that I take to work everyday filled with food. Las week I filled them with a little refried beans, shredded enchilada seasoned chicken and a little cheese. I will eat two or three while I am at work. It depends on how hungry I am. I will have some sort of snack when I get home. Maybe another premier, more chicken (I love chicken), protein oatmeal, etc. Sometimes I will have a sugar free popsicle. When I am brave enough I want to try greek yogurt. It didn't agree with me before the surgery but I am hoping that has changed. I have learned that I can no longer have spicy food which sucks.

    Exercise?

I am currently 5 weeks post-op ds surgery. I was ok'd for walking, elliptical and stairmaster after 2 weeks. I haven't gone to the gym yet bc I love to lift weights and it would be too tempting. At my 6 week followup I should get the ok for more strenuous exercise and to use weights.
  23. Yes true, I was referring more to the idiots who smoke it every day and try to sell their bs that it has medical advantages while their stoned.

    Leaving your job?

I had a slight change if heart....briefly. I did just get a decent raise a few days prior to me leaving for surgery. And, my team sent me a nice plant in a cool planter. But, I've been getting calls and texts while I'm on disability. That and I was shot down for a opening in a different department even though the manager of that department wanted me and asked specifically for me. Also, I work with my wife, shes in a different department but it's another stressor neither of us needs. So this week I believe I will be spiffing up my resume and looking for a new job. I'm fed up and I need a new challenge.

    Poll: What is your goal?

I'm 5'4". My highest weight evs was 325lbs. My most recent high was 287lbs and the weight was heading up, up, up. I started pre-surgery preparation last May (2017). SW 222.4lbs CW 193.2lbs 1st GW 150lbs Secret GW 135lbs (that puts me smack in the middle of my theoretical "normal" range for my height) My actual physical goals are beyond scale related. I want to reduce my chronic daily pain back to the point that it's <4 on the pain scale. I want to reduce my risk of BC recurrence, normalize my A1c out of the pre-diabetic range, reduce my fasting insulin, reduce the fluid around my heart and reverse my heart enlargement, normalize blood pressure without drugs, reverse my asthma and dependence on asthma drugs, decrease my left arm lymphedema leftover from BC, increase my core strength to correct some DDD changes and curvatures, improve my balance, increase my endurance, and be able to participate in life outside my front door step. I want to be able to go anywhere, do anything, wear event appropriate clothing without being self-conscious, be able to wear a bathing suit in public and be able to take float trips down the Frio and Guadalupe and Comal rivers. My most recent NSV is that I went to a minor league baseball game last night and wore a short sleeved shirt for the first time in 20 years. My butt fit in the seat (barely) but it fit. And I wore my arms bare in all their bat-winged glory. I put the F-U in fun. It felt so freeing and I was able to just cope with the pain from sitting in the chairs and for too long without using anything for pain, and was still able to enjoy the night.
