Ok so I feel like I'm trying to stall the process from fear of failing I guess. I've been researching surgery for over 2 years now and finally took the next step, found a surgeon and a doctor that wants me to have the surgery done. I actually have my psychological evaluation the 14th of this month. I guess I'm just afraid of what's to come. I'm 22 years old and have been overweight my entire life. I have never seem myself skinny or even close to a normal size other than pictures from when I was 2 or 3 years old. I'm excited to have the surgery but I guess since I don't know what to expect I'm fearing the unexpected. Maybe I'm just freaking myself out over nothing but it's a scary thought that 6 months or a year from now I'm going to be a completely different person when I look in the mirror. My family is pretty much split down the middle as support. My dad has been pushing me to do this for a while but my mom is skeptical because she thinks I'm going to change and be a different person all together. It just feels like it's happening so fast. I went to see my new pcp and she wants to try to have everything sent in to have the surgery done by the end of February or early in March. I know this is the best thing for me I'm just freaking myself out and need someone to bring me back down to earth. Lol

Favorite broths, drinks, etc.?

i like the herb-ox chicken broth by hormel. and they're individual packets so you can make one cup at a time in the mocriwave. and if i'm not mistaken, the low-carb slim-fast has more protein than the protein one? i could never find a protein shake i liked though. so i drank slim-fast for some meals and to get protein at the beginning. -
PCOS and looking at getting the Lap Band
twinmommy2014 replied to Shauna80's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have decided to do banding too due to weight and pcos. I am 5'1 and 195 lbs. I don't eat alot and cannot loose weight. It takes me forveer to loose 5 pounds only to regain back. I just finished my pre-op testing-bariusm swallow and blood tests including 2 hr fasting glucose. My first consult is July 31 and I hope it's not too long before scheduled surgery. I have high blood pressure, depression, insulin resistance and I am only 30. I don't want to get full blown diabetes or heart problems when I am older. I want to feel better about my appearance as well. -
I was banded on 2/22. For the last few days I have had a soreness at the bottom of my esopagus like it is irritated. Whenever I swallow anything it is painful as it passes this point and feel swollen. What are the s/s of erosion? I thought maybe liquids for a couple of days would help. BUT my other problem is that I am so hungry, too! I mean painful hunger pains and feeling like I would throw up from hunger. It's bad. The other day I couldn't eat fast enough (since I am now slow) to get rid of the hunger pain and someone actually had to go get me sugar and spoon! This week I haven't been very good, either. I am so stressed at work and last night I wished I didn't have the band so I could eat, eat, eat. I am scared of having complications since I was banded in Mexico and am basically on my own here. I can call the doc who does my fills - he has a lot fo experience and his scheduler has had a band for 10 years. What do you think?

I am feeling nervous but mostly hungry. I have been on clear liquids since yesterday. It is hard but the time has flown by fast. Please say a prayer for me tomorrow. Thanks, Rachael

Give it some time and try again. Not sure why, but our taste buds change over time and our tolerance to foods also change over time. Also remember to eat slow. My problem with soups was eating too fast. Once I learned to slow down tolerance was much better. In the case of French onion soup.. could have been the onions or the bread. Hang in there , it gets better.

I'm hoping that six months from now, I open this journal and barely recognize the feelings that I am about to express. I've been overweight forever. FOREVER... and isn't funny that when you look back at old photos, when you thought you were as fat as could be.... what you wouldn't give to look that way now??? I was reading some old diaries that I wrote when I was in HS, and I was complaining about how fat I had become.. "ballooning up to 140 lbs". Anyhow, I'm trying desperately to replace my habit of eating crap and vegging out on the couch, with diet and excercise. I want to be an excercise addict. I've been working out as well as I can.. my schedule isn't exactly condusive to good excercise habits... BUT I've found the more you WANT to work out, the more you will find time to do so. And the eating crap?? That's still my biggest struggle... it's just easier to swing by Mickey D's and order a value meal than to come home, broil fish and steam veggies and sit down an eat.. BUT I guess if I can convince myself to WANT to prepare a healthy meal, I will. My nutritionist would cringe at the amount of fast food I eat. I really need to stop that... More later.. Gotta pick up the kids.

Dr Kelly made a nice sleeve for me 8 days ago. When does the excitement start? (LONG)
educationrulz replied to desperateforchange's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That sounds like a great surgical and travel experience. My hospital stay was soooo boring, and painful unfortunately. But, the floor and staff were great, so I can't hold my pain experiences against anyone. But, I did walk alot like you and I think that contributed to my overall fast healing. Congratulations on getting your sleeve! BTW, can you explain your ticker? It says 233 lbs gained. Is that how much you're wanting to lose? -
I was eating a hamburger.... I think I was eating too fast

I was wondering if anyone could clue me in as to how fast you buy new clothes. Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited to be able to buy them soon, however I'm not independantly wealthy!! I've seen some people on this site say they outgrew their clothes in a matter of weeks - is that really the case? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated (e.g. should I start buying them when I see they are on sale, buy them tighter in hopes of fitting into them, etc...). Thanks.

Yes it happened to me too. All thoughts led to my upcoming surgery. Once I had the surgery and got back to work (I stayed home for only 10 days!) the obsession seemed to subside. Now I actually sometimes forget I had the surgery! Unless of course I eat too fast or don't chew enough...then I get reminded real quick!

Hi Everyone, I am almost 5 weeks out and I am having a hard time eating within 30 minutes. It usually takes me at the most 20 minutes to finish a meal. I don’t really have a problem with food feeling “stuck” and was just wondering if other had the same issues and any tips to help!

Hi Everyone, My lab work is back from my visit with my General Practice doctor – and I am terrified. I have gone into this lap band surgery with the wonderful thoughts that I have no co-morbidities. Well I am very wrong. I cry as I write this, b/c I have been in a fright all day long. My blood sugars came back at 282! I spoke with a nurse at work, who went over the labs with me. Turns out she has been diabetic for 20 years; so she knows her stuff. I DO NOT know my stuff! I know nothing of the disease, it does not run in my family, and I am so terrified I feel like I’m frozen in time. My GP has not discussed these numbers with me yet; the lab report was mailed directly to me, but I did fax it over to him today; and will see him next Monday. The nurse at work told me that I’ll most likely have to do another series of blood work. She asked if I fasted and I did for 12 hours prior to the test. The only thing I did was water in the a.m. with all of my vitamins. I know that I have to loose weight, have better nutrition and exercise. This number has just made the horror of being overweight ‘real’ for me. I have never had a problem before; last blood workup was 18 months ago. I ‘feel’ fine; perfectly fine. I do know when I go off of carbs I feel much better. I’m not a sweets-a-holic, but I do get my occasional sweet tooth. My head is spinning. I’m so afraid to go on to the American Diabetes website; worst thing I think I can do right now. I’ll terrify myself to death. I told my best friend when I left work today, b/c I was crying then. I told her that I MUST loose weight. She does not know I plan on banding. “Sheri Lynn, you can do this, I’ve seen you loose weight a hundred times on WW – just do that and it will go away”. Yea. Sure. This is why I am not telling her I’m being banded. Do many of you suffer with diabetes, or still do? Can the weight loss truly help? I’m still crying. My FIRST thought was to come and write to all of you for support and advice. I know it’s my extra weight – I am not a stupid person. I know I have to get exercising, and of course my diet can improve – otherwise I’d not be considering the band! Please help me feel better.

Sherilynn, I was feeling the exact same way you are just about a month ago. I was diagnosed 2 weeks before surgery. But you will find that those blood sugar numbers will plummet within a couple of weeks after surgery. I was between 160-190 pre-surgery. And now, four weeks out, I average 105. Don't sweat it. And, if by chance, the numbers don't fall fast enough for your primary doc, you'll just have to take a pill everyday until they do get in the right range. Everything will be fine. You're doing EXACTLY what you need to be doing to get your diabetes under control by having this surgery. Good luck!

Please take my comments as wanting you to enjoy maximum success. I failed with a lapband..partly not understanding how to eat. I found much success with the sleeve, losing 150# in 14 months (and maintaining for years now), but I had to understand how to do this. In the early months I strongly encourage you to eat dense, lean protein(fish, chicken, beef, other seafood etc.) As your main food each meal. Eat it slowly, chew carefully. You will get full really fast! It takes a small quantity! Then have a few bites of healthy veggies. My program called for doing that 5x a day. If you are mostly compliant with that you will have long term success. I am now four years out and I do sometimes"splurge" but it is in a controlled, not daily kind of thing. During the losing phase, following the bariatric recommendations most of the time is really important. Good luck, I do know it's difficult and most of us aren't perfect...but being consistently compliant is key. Sent from my KFJWI using the BariatricPal App

I did aweful yesterday on my pre-op diet. We were in the car driving home from vacation for 18 hours. I ate fast food for all three meals. And this morning, I'm so bloated. I'm hoping alot of it is Water weight. I have to really stick to this diet for the next 9 days. But I also think my Special K Protein drinks were not that good for me. After logging them on my tracker I realized way to many carbs in them. NOw that I'm back home and have my samples of shakes I bought here, going to start on them today. Has anyone been losing weight yet?

I just searched this topic after another horrendous bout with hiccups. I realized that it happens usually when I eat too much, too fast or haven't drunk enough Water........... My band is VERY tight when I don't drink enough during the day - especially in the mornings. Once I drink plenty of liquids, I am able to eat a little more.

I thought I am to old. Did you have any problems with your age? I am just so confused but yet happy too. I would love to hear more from you on this. I am so scard. I would also like to say thank you to all of you and given me the support on this. I was so worried because my doctor really did not want this to happen so fast but he said to me that is how he had six, you know s--t happens sometimes. And that was he exact words to after he laughed and give me a big huge.

Post-Op Day 9 Weight Loss Stall. Not enough calories?
SqueakyWheel&Ethyl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dropped 16 lbs pretty fast, but have stalled the past couple of days. I logged my intake today (and for yesterday) and see that I had 18 gm of protein yesterday, and 300 cal. Today, I've had 39 gm protein and 629 calories. Is the stall because I UNDERSHOT (by accident) the past couple of days and Ethyl (my body's alter-ego) switched to survival mode? -
I have had only a few stuck episodes and both were with chicken.. I have switched to dark meat chicken, like thighs.. I make sure if I have them they are cooked in liquid.. also I have had a few close calls with eating too fast.. make sure you lay your fork down between bites and try to chew at least 20 times or more with each bite.. no drinking while eating, etc. all the rules are there for a reason.. Getting stuck is very painful.

Surgery In 3 Weeks...soooooo Nervous....
PEvette replied to journey2healthy616's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My family knows, my real friends all know....people at work, only told 4 and that includes my boss.... The next 3 weeks will go by fast for you...if your doctor gave you a pre-op plan to do.....stick to it...the first 3 to 4 days will be hard, but its smooth sailing after those days.... I praise God I'm on the "losers bench" now....everyday I'm feeling better and better.... -
Hello everyone, I am a newbie to the site but am post op three years in September. My starting weight was 370lbs and 8 weeks ago I was 282lbs. I was thrilled but really struggling to eat. Something was blocking and I was choking at night while sleeping. Pretty scary to be woken up out of your sleep because you are choking on your own saliva. Anyway I went to the doctor and they immediatly emptied me out. It was such an incredble feeling to not have any restriction. They wanted me to be empty for a week or two to make sure I was ok. But I was supposed to still be careful with my food intake. Well I went haywire right away eating everything I have not been able to eat for the last two years.(pasta, bread and fast food). I did not go back to the doctor for three weeks and in that time I gained twenty pounds. They gave me a partial fill and told me to come back in a month or so depending on how I was feeling. Well it is a month later and I am dreading going back. I have gained another twenty pounds. I put on almost half the weight I fought to lose in just two months!! The worst part is I am so upset with myself, my cloths don't fit me, I threw out all my "fat" clothes and refuse to buy a larger size yet I cannot stop myself from eating. I now know what it feels like to be a drug addict. I am eating secretivly in my car figuring if nobody sees maybe I won't gain any weight. I am in a real bad place right now and need help. I am so glad I found this site, I believe it is a step in the right direction. So upsetting the jeans that were falling off of me 8 weeks ago I struggled to button this morning. I just hope I can get back on track. I know I have to go in for another adjustment but I am so embarressed by my weight gain I am afraid to face the doctors. So Sad JimmyXXL
