Count me in as undergoing the 3 week stall.

    Stuck????

25 pounds in 20 days and actually only 23 days if scale hasn't moved in the last week? That is a lot if weight! Your body is trying to catch up and you are in the dreaded 3 week stall. Tons of posts about the science behind it. It will move again but meanwhile you are nearly ahead of me and I am 8 weeks out tomorrow. Be patient. It's a marathon not a sprint.

    success

I've lost 14pds in 14 days. I really hope I'm not a part of the 3 week stall.

Warmest congratulations on your success so far! @@JamieLogical is absolutely right about the infamous 3-week stall. *Scream!* Most of us experienced it. Mine last almost a month, but the weight loss will resume again! So hang in there if you hit that stall.
  7. O.T.R. sleever

    New to this...and already frustrated

BTW, what you are experiencing is referred to as the 3 week stall. Most sleevers experience it.
  8. The dreaded "3 week stall" will end- don't worry, it does for pretty much everyone! I also hit that stall pretty early at 2 weeks post op and stayed around 200-202 for 3 weeks. Just recently has the scale dropped. I finally dropped to 198.6 and broke into Onederland on 9/17. I weighed myself today and I'm down to 193.3! The slowed weight loss can be discouraging- I had dropped 20 lbs in less than 2 weeks and then, BAM! - no weight loss. I realistically couldn't expect to lose 2 lbs a day for the rest of my weight loss journey. I lost over 30 lbs in less than 2 months, so I try to keep in mind that I would have NEVER lost that completely on my own. Especially in such a short period of time! I've lost over a third of my EWL. Stalls are terrible, but they happen. I don't want to stay at 193.3, but I am so much happier with my body now. My self image has improved greatly. At 7 weeks post-op, this is a great accomplishment for me. My clothes are baggier, and I can wear my old shirts that I had gotten too fat to wear comfortably. People have noticed I've lost weight- including all the people who didn't know I had surgery. Everyone's experience is different, and with the sleeve our weight loss will be slower than people who had the DS or RNY. Comparing our weight loss to other people is a double-edged sword; it's inspiring, but can also cause us to doubt ourselves and our own achievements.

    Blah...my first stall...

Ah yes, the infamous 3 week stall. I started just thinking of my body 're calibrating' and moving a smidge of fat from here to here, and moving more energy over there. I found that helped a lot with the mental energy worrying about the stall, thinking I had done something wrong, being catastrophic about it etc lol. I am a just over a year out...and I spend most of the month stalled lol then I lose. So I just think of my body needing a minute to figure out what to do next and get organized and it halts ALL PRODUCTION until it sorts itself out again and starts losing. Hope that helps!

    Ugh....6 months?!?!

I knew all along that my insurance would require the six month pre-op diet program. So, I decided to make the most of it. I lost 99 pounds (from 397 to 298) during that time. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I was as prepared as possible for the surgery; I re-established my relationship with food, and I set myself up for continued success post-op. In the 4 months since the surgery, I have lost almost an additional 70 pounds for a total of almost 77% of my excess weight since I started my journey. I can't imagine having to re-establish my relationship with food and deal with the aftermath of surgery all at the same time. Also, dealing with the 3 week stall (that everyone has) was so much easier when I had lost 120 pounds (at that time) than if I had just lost 20 pounds. I wish more people could see the benefits of that six month period and not see it as a bad thing. Anyway, I encourage you to get started now. The surgery is a tool, not a destination, and not the whole of your journey. The mental game is the biggest part of the journey, and the sooner you get that under control, the better off you will be. Good luck!
  11. To be honest, I wish I could get in a bit more than 500 calories but I get full very fast. And the gas pains are not pretty lol Unfortunately, I'm in the dreaded 3 week stall. And to make it worse, I keep gaining weight which is annoying. Granted, it's just 2 pounds, and then I lose the 2 pounds, and then it goes back. Its really stressing me out though. Anyone else going through this? Any advice to maintain the weight loss instead of me keep gaining?

    Stalled!

It's the "3 week stall". We promise it passes. It's very, very frustrating but it will pass. Stick to the program.
  13. at just over 3 weeks out i am on soft foods, so an average meal would be egg salad on a crusket light cracker nearly a whole egg, so about 90 cal a meal. volume wise that's maybe more than most can handle at this point but my surgeon and NUT very happy at my progress and say i'm healing up very fast. But realistically calorie wise only hitting the 300 a day mark. sometimes upto 400. My team aren't as obsessed with very high Protein numbers and want me to aim for 50gms a day (I can't do protein powers or dairy so have to manager with real food). i'm only half of that at the minute but they are happy for me to work my up over the next few weeks. I feel well, no pain, more energy etc. oh yes also on the 3 week stall on day 6 or 7, saw a slight movement down this morning - but i'm not worried. it's typical and i'll take it on the chin.
  14. I listened to what others did to get out of the stall. Eat more!!! It really works. I was in a 2-3 week stall. Starting eating more even added a few more carbs. I drink at least one protein drink a day. It will work for ya. I was sleeved nov. 14th.
  15. Hi guys, just went through the dreaded 3 week stall myself. At 16 days I stopped losing no matter what i did. I was getting in all my protein and water, exercising daily, doing all we are told to do and nothing. It lasted 8 days... The scale finally dropped 1.5 pounds yesterday. It does pass, it's super frustrating, but it does pass... Hang in there!

    Most Common Time To Stall

The 3 week stall could last from 1 week to 6 weeks. Does that narrow it down? Not much. If you stall at 5 months, that's most likely your BMR slowing down to match your caloric intake. That's a situation that won't change itself. You either have to up your BMR or lower your intake. Either way, the time it lasts will depend on how long it takes you to recognize and make that change. Sorry if I didn't really answer your questions.

    October 2013 Sleevers Roll call!

Hello everyone !!! I hope all is well or at least getting there. I know it's been a little ruff for many of us getting used to our new norm, but we'll be just fine... I'm looking forward to Spring already by then I would love to be 60lbs lighter and I'm already halfway there in one month....My husband and I are planning on renewing our vows in Vegas and spending our 10 yr wedding anniversary in Costa Rica so I'm looking forward to doing some shopping for clothes to fit my new body... I'm so excited and that's motivating me.. Even though my weight lose has stalled a little you know that 3 week stall everyone dreads and on top of that I think for us females that still get our monthly, we don't loose much during that week either. What I am excited about is shedding 9 1/2 inches in 3 weeks yaaayyy!!! #Stay motivated guys

I honestly didn't even give a thought to the fact that my body would need a certain level of calories hor the healing process! Doh! I have no willpower when it comes to the scale. Every morning like clockwork, and I've been seeing some numbers that surprise me a bit. But I know my 3 week stall is looming, and I'm really hoping that awareness will help me deal. 19. Aubrey there is such a thing as the "dreaded 3 week stall" where you stoop losing weight for a bit. Supposedly it's completely normal. You just have to wait it out a couple of weeks and if you stick to the plan the pounds will begin dropping off again. I'm at a stall too.. For the past 3 weeks my scale read exactly the same. Glad to know this is a normal process
  20. My stall began on Wednesday, and my 3 weeks was on Thursday. So it was right on the money, lol. I'm fine with the stall since I was expecting it. I've been going from 234 to 232 for days now. How long does it usually last for most people? If you had the stall, once it went away, did you go back to losing weight rapidly? I want to start losing weight rapidly again, and I'm worried that it will be slower after the stall goes away.
  21. I only weigh myself once a month. Otherwise I drive myself crazy and start living for the scale. This is about health for me. I'd rather focus on eating properly and exercise. Some people weigh daily and don''t get upset. Some people do once a week. For newly sleeved people I would say wait at least 2 weeks or whenever your first post-op appointment is. There are too many factors that may impact that early weight. You could be retaining fluids from the IV, Your belly could be swollen from surgery. You could be constipated. Whatever your routine becomes do not let the scale become the be all, end all. Take your measurements (neck, boob, waist & hips). When you hit that 3 week stall seeing the difference in the measurements may help you better see your progress. When you do weight yourself try to do it at the same time of day and in the same location every time.

    In the first month

Consider pain medication and swelling. You will lose, promise. I'm 10 weeks post op and down almost 50 as of today, also had the week 3 stall last about 3 weeks... It'll happen. Sent from my iPhone Im at my 3 week stall too Sent from my LGMS631 using the BariatricPal App
  23. Hang in there! I went through the same thing. Mine lasted about a week and then the scale started moving steadily again. For some of us, the 3 weeks stall arrives a little earlier. It will end and you'll start losing again.
  24. As repetitive and annoying as it may be to read the same question over and over again I must admit that it was that dreaded 3 week stall that made me seek out more information and brought me onto this site. While my Dr did tell me that stalls were inevitable I did not expect it to happen so soon and all the while my calorie intake was 250-350 daily. I subconsciously believed that my body was somehow broken to begin with as I have never responded well to changes in diet and increases in exercise. I was terrified that I would be the one and only person that would go through this surgery and STILL not lose weight and regain mobility. I can not tell you what a source of comfort it was for me at the time to see so many people posing the exact questions that were plaguing me. And even more comforting were the responses from the Veterans telling us newbies "hey, I have been there, it can last a few weeks, but trust me it will get better." ... and it has
  25. My son called for his daily chat, a time I really look forward to. He says, "How was your day?" Well I've had a lovely day. I got to go into the office, work with a team of 6 very smart people, we all got some great thinking and work done. I was able to join them in the lunch I ordered for us, and I've extremely been productive all day. What were the first words out of my mouth in response to my son's question? "Well, I'm still stalled." WTH?? That's all I can think of to tell him about my day?? So he's a very insightful smarty-pants and he says to me, "Mom it was one thing to rely on the scale when you could say 'oh maybe I should cut down a bit tomorrow' and use the scale to monitor and adjust your eating habits. But really, what role does the scale play in your life now??" For a change, I was speechless. Well he wasn't about to stop there. He carries on saying, "Maybe you should ask yourself if it's healthy to let what you see on a scale determine your feelings of success for the day? After all you're doing what you need to, and you told me you were going to focus on process vs. the outcome. Would anything change in your process if you just threw away the scale for 3 months?" No of course it wouldn't but can i throw away the scale for 3 months? I cannot. Why? Because maybe I'm sick in the head and I associate my self-worth with success or failure at pounds lost. Not what I do to succeed, but whether the scale says I've lost weight today. Unlike a lot of people here, over the last few years i could NOT lose weight. I could control my calories, my cardio-vascular health, what I put in my mouth, but I couldn't control my weight. Yet I continued to judge myself by my ability to lose weight. Not by my ability to do what was healthy, but whether or not I could lose weight. I may have been sleeved, but apparently that way of judging myself still persists. So really, I ask all of you.... if we are eating our Protein, drinking our Water, and exercising to the degree that we can, what role does or should the scale play in our lives when we're trying to lose weight? Should we not focus on the process, monitor the crap out of the protein and water and calories, and let the scale go off on a long hike to TImbuktoo? And can you do that? Why not? what do you think? (Note, I'm in the dreaded 3-week stall, I know this, I accept it, so it's not about the stall. It's about how we judge ourselves by using criteria or outcomes that are outside of our control).
