    February Sleevers

Mastiff_Mama, I think you are my soul sista! I have two English Mastiffs, was also sleeved 2/18 and now have a BMI of 34!! I've lost just 1lb in the past week and am starting to freak out! Everyone on here says its just the inevitable 3 week stall but I'm worried that since we don't have as much to lose, I'm going to lose weight SLOW. But, slow is better than not losing!! I'm just trying to trust in the process. I, too, am happy that people say this is normal. I'm just ready for the weight to start coming off!

    3 weeks po stall

My surgeon warned me that there is usually a stall around 3 weeks, and that you may even a couple lbs, but its just your body getting used to everything. Itll pass, don't be discouraged! I hit a 3 week stall but i was so busy moving i barely noticed (thank goodness)

    FRUSTRATED!

Everyone. The week 3 stall is very common. If you use the search function at the top and put in 3 week stall, you will get a whole lot of tips on how to break out of it. Basically your body has adjusted to the the decrease in calories and is going into starvation mode. There are several techniques on how to break the stall. You'll have to find the one that works the best for your situation.
  4. Ahhh, yes...the dreaded "3-week stall"! Basically, what happens is your body goes into "survival mode". Because we lose so quickly, the body will frak out so to speak. Your body will think that it will die because you are starving yourself and it will grab on to any fat reserves to keep you alive, even though you are perfectly healthy. You will hit a few stalls. It is aggravating, but don't be a scale ***** (like I am). I used to weigh almost daily. Between Jan 16 and Feb 18, I stalled a few times and only lost 12 pounds, where had been losing 20 per month. I got really bummed about it and quit weighing. I'm out of that stall now, thankfully!!! Scales are evil now! Just stay off of them!!! Good luck!

    The great thread killer......

And how long does the 3 week stall last? I haven'tlost anything in the last 45 minutes and I'm worried I've failed!!! I know that I can't drink fizzy drinks, but if I wait til my vodka and redbull goes flat, that will be ok right? And I also ate a KFC family feast for dinner and I'm worried I've stretched my sleeve, how can I tell?
  7. update: I've been in a 3 weeks stall!! surgery weight: 232 on 9/07/2012 current weight: 165 on 2/26/2013 I'm almost 70 down, but I know I need to spend up my cardio! have u guys gone back on your liquid diets? let me know if it works and what what you guys do to avoid temptations! Thankyou!!
  8. Bust the stall 1:Go on a 48-hour liquid diet. 2: For two days in a row eat two dried prunes in the morning two before bed and almost one gallon "90/120oz "of water a day. 3: Breakfast one hard-boiled egg. Snack 8 ounces protein shake . lunch 1/2 cup shredded lettuce with 1/2 baby Bell cheese shredded with 1/2 hard-boiled egg 1 teaspoon and a half ranch dressing. Evening snack 8 ounce protein shake. Dinner Baked chicken breast green vegetables. Before bed snack 8 ounces milk. You will be drinking 80/120 oz of water. Do this for 2 days try one you like and let me know how you did BTW I'm the stall queen I have had 7 week stalls 4 week stalls and 2/3 week stalls Sent from my iPhone using VST
  9. Someone asked me the other day how I was going to deal with being thin. Well, I am only 19 days out from surgery so I feel like it is way too soon for me to worry about. Even so, the question confused me. I finally realized why. Since I gained weight, I think of myself as a thin girl in a temporarily fat body. I still have trouble believing this will work. Especially since I think I am in the dreaded 3 week stall. The scale has not moved in 4 days. I am just pushing on and waiting to see what happens.
  10. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks that I've been the same weight. Starting weight was 240 Day of surgery was 228 sleeved 1/22 Today 208........yes I'm down 32 pounds but not a single one in 3 weeks. Stalls happen and I just added Zumba to my regimen, increased my fluids, and increased my Proteins. I'm also starting to monitor my sodium more....hoping doing all that will help!

    Stall

I think i have hit the famous 3 week stall. I am 3 weeks out today and I have not lost anything in the past 3 days. I was losing 1 to 2 pounds everyday. Time to ignore the scale, right. Put it away for a while. I did start goin to the gym this week. Doin cardio only for right now. I guess I should take measurements and see if those move. Should have done that anyway. Guess nothing to do but hang in there and it will pass.
  12. I had my VSG surgery on Nov 6th, 2012. ( 15 wks post op) Counting pre op I have lost a total of 60 lbs, 20 of that before surgery. For the past 4-5 weeks I haven't lost a pound and I actually keep fluctuating a few lbs. So far on my journey I haven't had much difficulty, except for the 3 week stall at 3 weeks out. I can eat pretty much anything I want and I was still able to loose. I am looking for suggestions to start really working on jump starting my weight loss again and start focusing more on myself. I have started to exercise a few times a week and I am trying to drink more water. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Sleeved tomorrow 1/28!

Things are good! I am still having some pain in the incision on my right side, but it is getting a little better every day. I am also in the midst of the dreaded 3 week stall which is no fun! I did lose 20 lbs though which is exciting! I just can't wait for this stall to break! How are u doing?

    3 week Post op update!

Thanks so much for all of the information!! I'm telling myself now that I won't be obsessed with the scale, in hopes of not being hooked on watching for that 3 week stall. I doubt I'll actually manage that, though, since my OCD probably won't be that forgiving. I've gotten some Protein powder samples already but will add that specific type at GNC to my purchase list. I know a lot of people struggle getting in protein initially, so I'd like to get the biggest bang I can out of the powder I use. I'm not super active now (shocking, I know...lol) but am looking forward to feeling better and having more energy post-op. I will add in cardio early on, too, as I think that's a key component to early, consistent weight loss. Thanks again for sharing so much. ~Kat

    3 week Post op update!

Hi Kat! Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Yes, each day my priority is protein and Water. I'm so glad discovered the GNC Wheybolic 60 because immable to bang out 90% of my protein goal by Breakfast. Please note that i make the shake at 7:30 am, and it takes me until nearly noon to finish it (when 2 scoops are mixed with 8 oz milk it makes about a 12-16 oz shake). I add some water too to thin it out a bit, otherwise it's pretty thick and sits heavy on my sleeve. As far as supplements, I take nexium (PPi) and Actigall (to preserve the gallbladder daily). I also take flintstones complete multi vitamins. I will only take the actigaull for 6 months, and the nexium as needed after that. I did purchase an Iron supplement just in case, but probably won't start it until my 3 month labs are done, and only if my iron is low at that point. I'm a big milk/yogurt eater too, so I haven't needed any Calcium supplement, I'd definitely meeting a healthy level each day. Honestly, I think the biggest key to my loss right now has been the gym. I started back at the 2 week mark doing low impact cardio (elliptical, bike, arc trainer, incline walking) and I'm pretty sure that helped me skirt past the dreaded 3 week stall that most people encounter. I had been weighing daily at that point and noticed my loss starting to slow dramatically (.4 pound for 3 days straight) and decided it was time to up the ante a bit. Since that point I've been losing .5-1 lb a DAY. Hoping to prolong this as long as possible...so if I see another slow down I will change up my gym routine again. My intake is around 450-550 calories a day, with 64 oz water/liquids and minimum of 60 grams protein a day...most days I'm hitting a good bit higher (today was 94!). Hope this helps!

    All of my December sleevers...

Love I went through a 3 week stall myself it was VERY FRUSTRATING! Please don't destroy your surgery due to frustration I can tell you now I UNDERSTAND how you feel I really do but the scale WILL MOVE AGAIN but don't hurt your progress when in a stall your body needs time to adjust to the new environment you have now given it shifting this and it can also go it to protective mode for a few weeks but it will adjust to your new lifestyle and react once again. But if you give up and Sabotage your already put in hard work YOU ONLY HURT YOURSELF I promise you if you stick with it the scale will move again and you will see results but whatever you do DONT hurt your progress by feeding your body NO NO FOODS! I believe in you I need you to believe in you too! YES YOU CAN! I hope you break your stall soon and get out of this funk I really do. Please be strong you can do it! Go team go!
  17. VSG family I need help/advice. I was sleeved on the 28th of January and from my last pre op visit on the 22nd until today I've gone from 399 to 368 which is good I know but every day for the last week and a half my weight ranges between 366 and 369. Am I in the 3 week stall or what? I met with my nutritionist yesterday because I'm not getting enough fluids in and that has to improve or I can make myself sick. I feel fine for the most part not in major pain just don't have to much energy. What can I do to get the scale to move?
  18. The dreaded 3 week stall??? 1/21/13 DOS and I lost 10 pounds the 1st week and now nothing for 2 weeks... I knew to expect it but how long did your 3 week stall last?
  19. Hello, So I am 12 days post op and I have a few questions, actually. First, I am still on my full liquid phase. I start purees tomorrow. 1. How to tell if my pouch is full? I'm not really sure what I feel. I do get the hiccups if I drink too much. I'm trying to "feel" whatever it is I'm supposed to, but still not quite sure. I know when I'm not hungry and I haven't pushed my pouch at all. I haven't eaten or drank anything I'm not supposed to...is this why I don't know what it is that my pouch is full 2. Can my pouch even get full on liquids? I know that food can fill it up because it takes time to digest and filter through the stoma, but do liquids work differently? Does it just kind of go right through? 3.I think I've hit a stall. It's been like 4 days since the scale has budged!!! The 2 weeks before surgery I lost 13 pounds and then the week after I lost another 10. Could this be my 3 week stall??? I'm frustrated hitting a stall only a week after surgery. 4. Is marinara sauce okay to eat on pureed stage? I made some beef stew with it, but wondering if this is good because I know it has sodium and some sugar (from the tomatoes). 5. I still have a bruised feeling in the left part of my belly near some of my incisions. Is this normal? I feel like it should be gone by now. It isn't constant, but with certain movements. It is the worst when I lift my arms over my head and stretch out my belly. I don't have a fever or anything like that. 6. I get dizzy and light headed when I bend over. And slightly out of breath? Does anyone know why this happens and when it will go away? Please help!!!

    Icon23! Where are you?

I'm doing great! I might be in the 3 week stall, but I lost 2 pounds in the past week, so I don't exactly consider it a stall. I lost 15 pounds the week before that, though, so it's a big difference. I'm just trying to be patient with the process and pay more attention to how I feel and how my clothes fit. I'm down from a tight 22 to a comfortable 20. My birthday is in 2 days and I already feel like I've given myself the best present

    3 month post op stall?

Stalls happen often after the first 3 week stall. For me, I think the pattern is stall a week lose for two weeks, repeat. Running for an hour every day for me seems to help the continual downward trend. The biggest positive I have noticed is the reduction in chest/stomach and legs. The scale is no longer a weekly need for me. I measure success based on how my clothes fit or how I feel or how I look in the mirror. Can now wear size 34/35 jeans and medium/large shirts. I seem to be 1/2 way between sizes which is a little odd. Just keep meeting and beating your water, protein, and exercise goals. Your stall will break. It is just a matter of time.

    All of my December sleevers...

Its nice to see everyone is doing okay I love good news I also been loosing a pound a day since Monday after a 3 week stall I love it and I hope it continues I really don't want to loose the weight that fast due to the possibility of loose skin but the faster I see the hundreds the better I am almost at my half way marker thats when i will be happy. still don't see much of a change when I look in the mirror but I see it when I put on my clothes. maybe in another 10 pounds I will see the mirror effects lol

    Week #3 Numbers. :-(

Here are my numbers so far: 1/18 DOS 179 Week #1 171 (-8) Week #2 167.4 (-3.6) 11.6 total Week #3 165.8 (-1.6) 13.2 total So only a 1.6 lb loss for the week. I told myself before surgery that I would be fine when I stall and/or the weightloss slows down. I have to admit, this has been very hard. I am doing well from the standpoint of getting all of my protein and fluids in. My calorie intake is between 450-700 calories a day, but being on liquids for 3 full weeks is tough! I am not "hungry" but I'm not satisfied either. My energy level is pretty low too. I can't believe I only lost 1.6 lbs this week. What's crazy is the last 2 days I was at 165.4 and this morning I woke up .4 lbs heavier. Seriously? I hope I don't hit the dreaded 3 week stall on top of this. Ugh. I also worked out 3 times this week doing cardio. This is crazy. My original hope was to drop 15 lbs in the first month and then hopefully 6-10 lbs per month after that. Now I'm thinking that may be unrealistic. Last week, I would have said I am definitely on track to lose 15 lbs my first month. Now, I'm not so sure. Each week that weight loss has slowed down to about half of what it was the week before. If the trend holds, I won't make it. Hopefully, that trend will break this week. We'll see. I think all my past yo-yo dieting has really screwed with my metabolism.

    im not convined

You are really early out. It takes time to get the hang of it. The weight loss for me has been sporadic, which can be very frustrating. Do a search for 3-week stall on this site and you will find tons of people that are experiencing what you are. We all lose weight differently and at a different speed. I am a little bit of a slow loser, but I am losing and you will too. Back up to the basics and follow your nutritionist's plan. You will see results.
  25. Kate, first things first, you're doing great!! You're a little over 2 months out, not 3 months, so don't beat yourself up. Personally, I cannot eat 8 ounces at a time, but we all are different, different bougie sizes etc. Have you talked to your NUT about it? I try to only eat to where I am mildly full. I know I eat too fast so if I eat until I am only slightly full, I know the FULL feeling will catch up with me! Another thing I have done recently is make myself drink at least one protein drink i the morning. It seems to help me not eat as much later in the day. I have read a lot about eating your biggest meals earlier, so to try to keep on track with that I drink a protein shake in the morning, try to have my biggest meal be lunch which I eat around 11:30-12:00, and then I try to have a decent size protein only snack around 3 before I eat dinner around 5. If I am still hungry later, I will have a protein snack (like chicken) around 7, and I try not to eat anything after that. I just had a 3 week stall myself, and finally managed to break through. I have really been ramping up my liquid intake and trying to be extra mindful to keep the protein up and carbs down. You're doing great, keep it up!!
