10 years post gastric bypass surgery !! having a hard time finding love
StratusPhr replied to ATHENA LEIGH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a sleeve to bypass revision 7 weeks ago. I can only eat about 1 oz of food at a time. I've tried three different protein shakes, they all literally make me sick after about 1/4 of the shake. I can feel it churning and gurgling in my chest. I can't get my protein in with just food. I am not getting all my supplements taken, it's like eating a meal taking the big calcium pills. I really am frustrated. I need to weigh or measure everything I put in my mouth, which is fine. I was severely dehydrated last weekend. I should have gone to the ER but the wait time is up to 10 hours. I knew I wasn't drinking enough. I didn't know how to prioritize supplements, protein and drinking. My skin was very dry, my lips stayed chapped for two weeks prior to the sudden onset of uncontrollable vomiting and an instant pounding headache. Not a migraine but a headache that I couldn't get rid of. That was Saturday a week ago. I talked to my surgeon in Dallas Sunday. He wasn't to make sure my abdomen wasn't hurting. He said if I started running a fever 100 or above get to the ER. I'm 2.5 hours away from him. I started doing better, I was drinking Pedialyte mixed with no sugar added grape juice like crazy. I ended up drinking 2.5 bottles, 33.8 oz each, and grape juice and two cups of lactose free milk every day. I'm back to eating again, trying to. I've thrown up twice today, I woke up at 4:30 AM yesterday and threw up. I haven't had nearly enough to drink, eat and I've taken 1/3 of the calcium I should be taking. Any advice at all? Thank you. -

Revision because of Complications
Tomo replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm so sorry you are going through this. It sounds terrifying and painful. I had a revision from vsg to rny in August. My recovery was same or easier than with the vsg. I chewed Mylanta mini tabs to get rid of the excess gas after surgery. Physically, I don't feel different either except that my appetite is much less after RNY. All my issues were resolved after the revision (acid reflux, hunger problems... Etc.). I don't have any issues anymore, not bowel related or stomach related. So far (knock on wood ^^), it has been the best decision I've ever made concerning WLS. -
They told me 30 times but I have found that sometimes I have to chew more. After my revision to gastric bypass, I've found that if the food doesn't break down all the way by chewing (i.e. liquid), I won't swallow it, otherwise it has a high likelihood of getting me sick an hour later.

Revision because of Complications
jensteinberg16 replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm 18 days post op from my revision. I had RNY in 2007 and about 5 years ago, I started getting small bowel obstructions. Surgeon thought it was scar tissue, so I went in for an exploratory laparoscopy expecting minimal recovery, and I came out with a brand new bottom half of my bypass (rare issue called intussusception). For about a week, I was sore and tired and needed the pain meds. The biggest thing post op is to get your protein and vitamins in. The fatigue was the most debilitating but I ended up adding some extra vitamin D, B and omega 3s and it made a world of a difference. I have a desk job and after about 5 days I could sit and work for a few hours at a time before I needed a break. I've made sure to keep my social calendar empty so I can reserve my energy for the 'must do's'. I'm on purees now and I'm feeling better each day. Best of luck to you and I hope they're able to fix your issue soon! Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Revision because of Complications

Could anyone give me any insight on how this will work? The differences between the sleeve recovery verses the revision recovery? I'm not entirely sure if I'll be getting one but at this point my gut is saying that it's going to be necessary. I can't eat or drink anything. Throwing up, dry heaving, Still have stomach pain, they think it's all from gastritis. I feel like i'm starving to death at this point. My diet is ice cubes (barely). I can barely walk from malnutrition. I just turned 19 and I'm in college so I also don't know how much it would affect my classes. I'm looking for things that are obvious about the recovery and things that aren't obvious that I might not think of. And if anyone else has gone through this. When I got the sleeve I was more able to research things and literally memorize everything but I'm so messed up I really need someone to just help me figure it out kinda. -

I am revising my sleeve to a DS on Feb 7th. I feel like I am going into this surgery with my eyes more open than before. that is good and bad. I know I can and will lose weight. but what if I can't keep it off? last time I maintained for years until pregnancies and miscarriages messed me up. I'm not going to have any more pregnancies, but I'm still scared. Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
1. No, I can definitely say I feel healthier and though I have experienced some regain, my body has changed for the good. 2. Yes 100% 3. I was miserable for about 8 months after surgery because my body decided to hate everything I put in it, and for awhile there I was surely tested HOWEVER, I had a great team with my bariatric doctor whom helped me through. Of course this a person by person basis but something that drove me close to regret. 4. I was sleeved in 2015. I WISH they would have told me about the possibility of getting severe GERD and hernias. That conversation wasn't thoroughly discussed and as it may be my fault, I'm now finding myself needing revision which health insurance that won't cover leaving me to fund my revision on my own. Life is a little miserable right now because nothing seems to help but again, this is all a person by person basis. I wish I would have pushed for RNY at the beginning but I still don't regret getting WLS. Best of luck to you!

How much weight did you lose per month after 6 months?
Tomo replied to Rey Rodriguez's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 10 lbs. from my new goal I set at the time of my surgery. Since my revision from VSG to RNY in August 2021, about 9 to 10 lbs. a month, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. I've lost about 65 lbs. in 5 months. -

Doesn’t anyone follow helpful support pages or people on Instagram covering their weight loss surgery journey? I had a sleeve to rny revision 3 weeks ago and would love to follow some folks on Instagram since I don’t have Facebook and don’t want to create an account. If you’re active on Instagram please feel free to share your @ and any suggested Instagram accounts you follow/find helpful. Thanks! -
I think a lot of the answer lies here. Anything you do will be offset by this; eventually, your body will force you to not be hungry. On the list of survival mechanisms, it's pretty high up there. I'd honestly take a deep breath, look at this like another project to conquer, and start by giving my team where you had the surgery a call. Maybe your new set point isn't BMI 25, maybe you're doing really well by maintaining your weight where you are. Maybe you need a revision. Maybe not. All I know is that being permanently hungry never ends up being permanent. Fortunately.

i'm pre-op, for the second time
gabbykittyvsg replied to gabbykittyvsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I've read and experienced, there's no BMI requirement for revision due to complications such as GERD. Some have been able to get a revision based on BMI alone, but I think that's rare. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app -

I'm getting a revision from sleeve to bypass on March 1st. I'm praying this pandemic doesn't change plans! I'd love to lose about 30 pounds but that's not the reason for surgery, getting rid of the acid reflux is the goal! Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Aaand here was go again round 2- 20 years later

I'm waiting to have a gastroscopy to see what can be done. Like you I had RNY 21 years ago, weight regain, god awful reflux, bloating etc. Surgeon want to have a look to see if the anamostosis is OK and if there is leakage from the pouch to the remnant stomach, which back then they left the old stomach in. Which can contribute to the weight regain and the reflux. He will only do a revision abdominally, so interested to hear how you get on. -
Revision surgery: Why will this time be different?
incredibleshrinkingnurse replied to KSW22's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my VSG 7/2015. I never felt much restriction and was hungry from the start. I restricted my calories to 800 per day and followed all the rules for the first 3 months and lost 60lbs… then my mother in law was dropped on my doorstep. LONG story but I was the sole provider for my husband and 2 small kids, working 12 hour night shifts. She had stage 4 emphysema and end stage esophageal cancer with alcoholic dementia to boot. Our house was tiny. She was 69 and weighed 65 lbs … let’s just say I was a bit stressed. I stopped counting calories. I plateaued for a full year and then started gaining. I’m now 6.5 years out and just 27 lbs from where I started. I’m hesitant to revise. My bariatrician tells me people tend to not have as much success with revision. I chose a sleeve because I didn’t want to risk not being able to absorb medications I need but my GERD is so bad I may not have a choice. I’d love to hear if anyone had a similar struggle with their initial surgery and were successful with the second. Those in the thread who had the scar tissue and hernia repair, surely they will allow a follow up procedure. -
No Restriction - VSG to RNY
AB2B replied to 2badogs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Interesting post. Happy you all shared. I have my revision from VSG to RNY bypass next week and I am so anxious to know how my body with adjust. I have terrible GERD now plus have gained and lost the same 30 pounds for 2 years. I had VSG in March 2017. -
Hi. I had My revision from Lap-Band to Gastric Sleeve on Dec 29. I have to say this is not what I expected (although I don’t know what I expected). I expect some of my problems are hormones, I hope. I loved my band but then the esophagus problems started. It seems all I do all day is try to get my fluid intake. I go back to work on Jan 12th. My concerns and questions are, How did or do you handle the fluids intake and bathroom issues? At the moment again I’m just drinking (sipping) all day. I have to hold the cup or it seem I zone or distracted and won’t drink. I got dehydrated and had to go to ER for IV. I scares me know so don’t want to happen again. Then the bathroom it’s like bumm, you gotta go (BM). Any advice would be appreciated. just noticed my old info is still there I can’t figure out how to update

Am I really gonna lose weight?
Myrandalynn06 replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the lapband in 2009 and due to complications had to get it removed and got the bypass all fairly quickly and I had the revision on 12/15. I struggled with post op diet until this week when I started to eat some puréed foods but I am just not losing weight. Emotionally really frustrating that I went through all this and not seeing results. -
Am I really gonna lose weight?
Tufflaw replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Originally I started at 315, got sleeved in late December 2016, made it all the way down to 195 in about 7 months or so. I had several major issues in a short amount of time, including losing my job, having a health issue with one of my children, starting my own business and then losing it, so I had a lot going on and didn't focus on keeping with the program. When I started my two-week fast at the beginning of November 2021 in preparation for revision surgery, I was about 293. -

Tufflaw replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Not to be cliche, but if you think you'll succeed or fail - you're right. You need to have the right mindset going into this. I did very well with my sleeve that I got in 2016, until I started slipping and put it all back on. Five years later I got the revision to bypass 6 weeks ago and it's going very well again, except now I know what to watch out for and how to (hopefully) avoid the pitfalls of last time. Believe that it will work, and do everything you can to help it work, and it will work. -
Had revision surgery on 12/27, I have the physical support but the emotion support of my husband comes and goes. He was not a big fan of me having the surgery but respected my decision enough to be present in my recovery which has been far worse than my initial surgery recovery. I agree tons of support on the boards here. It really helped me through the nerves leading up to surgery. As well as giving me some realistic expectations on after care.

Just want to wish you luck! It’s gotta be hard not having the support you need. I’m hoping your revision goes well. I’m having an endoscopic suturing revision for my sleeve that was done in 2012. I lost over 100 pounds and got pregnant a year out. I’ve gone up and down for the past 10 years but never back to my lowest and now I’m close to my high 😩. Hoping for a reset.
