  1. I'm sorry you are still not feeling great. When I was still in pain it was hard to tell between hunger, acid and pain. Now when I wake up after about 30 min I feel hunger and I'm recognizing that feeling. I drink 8 oz if milk/protein powder over ice and it takes me about 30-45 min. Right after I can tell I'm not hungry. But about an hour later I feel it again so I try some hot broth seems to feel full longer. The Jello was taking space and not helping with the Protein and hunger and I can only take about 4 small bites and I feel a little pain so my sleeve is full. My doctor said after about a minute and a half whatever you ate will kind of passed down and then I have another bite and keep doing it until it's been about a half an hour since you started eating. Makes you feel full longer but hard to eat so slow. Trying to figure out if you can try Greek yogurt instead of jello through the day. I eat a few bites from one yogurt a few times through the day to keep something on my stomach longer. It really helps me feel full. I am definitely not starving and the weight is just falling off. I'm also mixing two scoops of GENEPRO flavorless protein in 16 oz blender ball with crystal light powder and I drink that as my liquids but they also have protein in every sip. I can get 60 grams protein just in that 16 oz of crystal light. Hopefully getting more protein between meals can help you stay fuller longer ???? try the warmer fluids also it feels better than cold I seem fuller. Good luck!

    OCTOBER 2014

Hey Honeys!! I am home! My son is acting distant, it was a very long time. After all my complications, today I can say I feel great. I tried on some jeans that haven't fit me since before I gained all the weight after the baby and they were sagging and falling off. I went food shopping and it went pretty good, I also walked 3 miles not including my 2 hours walking in the store. I missed my freedom. I am going to have extra doctors visits weekly but I am so glad to be home, I get to sleep with my baby and nomore annoying roommates lol. I am also getting 16oz of water down in less than an hour without pain. I figured if I keep stopping myself I will never get my water in. I drink until I feel slightly full and my nut said its okay and won't stretch my pouch because its going through me. So I drink like 5oz every 15-20 mins and 4 to 5 bottles of liquid a day so 64 to 80oz. I am also having 2oz of tuna, chicken, beef, or pork 14G and then I use genepro with this juice (healthy balance made with splenda or diet oceanspray) water mixure for an additional 60G of protein, I drink that one slower so that it can absorb. I'm sorry I wrote so much I am just happy to be home and to be pain free and alive. Since getting my protein and water plus vitamin in I barely feel weak, I am going to be cleared for solids in 2 weeks and exercise. I had to wait longer because of the complications. I still feel some regrets, but hopefully it fades completely. Okay ladies and gents, I hope everyone is great I love you all.

I just had a small Omaha filet mignon with shrimp scampi and Italian herb veggies & rice. Over 38 grams of protein. About 5.5 ounces total. You can stop calculating....I also threw in a half scoop of Genepro protein powder.

Hi all I am in the week 3 stall but hanging in there. I am really tired, but that may partly be from not being able to do much because of my ankle. I can now put a little weight on it, so I will be going back to work part- time Wednesday. I hope my energy will improve as I get out more. Working hard to get my protein in. I ordered the Genepro, thanks for the suggestion BellaLuce4.

@@samuelsmom I was getting very tired of the sweet taste of the shakes too. I bought Genepro unflavored protein powder and now I am able to add it to my broth and it has no taste oh so happy I'm not drinking those ucky shakes today
  6. Since I've come to this site exactly one month ago, I have been "collecting" tips as I've come across them. I was just keeping them for myself, and then I realized they may be helpful to someone else. I'll bookmark this page and update it as I come across new and valuable info. Most of these are direct quotes, and had I known I was going to share this I would have kept the original poster's name to give them credit for the tips, but alas, I did not. So, thank you to everyone who may have contributed, and keep the good stuff coming! I count my breakfast Premier Protein shake as a meal, not a Fluid. (30 grams of protein) 30-60 minutes later, I have a cup of coffee. (Count it as a fluid if you like.) After that, I drink a 24-oz. tumbler of decaf, sugar-free iced tea, like Crystal Light throughout the morning. (Lots of frequent sips) Then I walk for 40+ minutes. Then it's lunchtime - tuna salad or chicken salad, or leftover protein from dinner. (16-22 grams of protein) and maybe a bite of veggies if there's room. About 45 minutes after lunch, I'll fill another 24-oz tumbler of iced tea and sip that throughout the afternoon, finishing by 30 minutes before my afternoon snack. At around 4:00, my afternoon snack is usually a Greek yogurt (12 grams of protein) or some leftovers. (This is also a good time to get in some veggies or a V-8 if you're getting enough protein at other times.) Maybe a cup of hot tea in the later afternoon. (Count it as a fluid you like.) Then dinner – again, getting 20-25 grams of protein from lean steak, fish, chicken, or pork, and maybe a bite or two of veggies. Finally, another 24-oz cup of iced tea or water 30-45 minutes after dinner that I sip throughout the evening. If I'm hungry later, sugar-free Jell-O or sugar-free popsicles are good. And if I'm short on protein or still hungry, another yogurt or protein shake. (I'm not worried about the calories because this menu only provides 700-900 per day.)

    Struggling with my 3 meals

Hi Crstal88.......I was sleeved on 10/27/14. I had my 2 week post op appointment yesterday with my surgeon. Everything is going really well. At my two week mark I could start mushy type foods so I did. Everything I have tried so far has gone down well. Thank God! I have always ate three meals a day and usually a snack at night so I did have to cut that out because my surgeons practice says NO SNACKING. I am still off of work so it's a little easier with my meal planning. I am suppose to be doing two shakes a day and one small meal. I was doing two meals and one shake but doc wants me doing two shakes and 1 meal so that is what I will do most days, but some days I am doing two meals and one shake. I was able to get my Protein on the days I was doing 2 shakes and 1 meal by adding unflavored GENEPRO to my drinks. I try to get my Breakfast in pretty soon after I wake up, shakes go down just fine for me in about 20 minutes. then I wait my 30-40 mins and I start with my liquids and try to get at least 24oz in before I have to stop drinking to be able to eat/drink my lunch. Then I wait again and start my liquids to get them in before dinner. And then sometime between 5-7 depending when my husband gets home I do dinner. then more liquids. This really seems to work for me and I think even when I go back to work it will continue to work. The only issue I have right now is if I have an appt or something around lunchtime I have to figure out how to get my lunch in in between. But it really boils down to planning planning planning!! I'm not really hungry at all much during the day so I think that helps me to stick to my plan. I have to really make sure to plan since in my family there is me, my husband and my daughter. My daughter has decided to not eat meat anymore so at dinnertime I am basically making three different dinners. So far it has been working, but again not without planning. When I wasn't watching what I ate it was easy to get lazy and then just eat whatever, this makes us plan ahead. I hope any of this helps. Good luck, I always hate when I read on here that people are struggling with things, you know you just want to reach thru the computer and fix it!!! Good luck and I hope it gets easier for you!!

Ladies, I wish I knew about Genepro during my first weeks post op. It is tasteless and a small spoonful packs 30 grams of protein. There is a thread somewhere on here that I kept reading. I finally went on Amazon and am kicking myself for not buying it earlier. #traveler60 sorry about the scrambled eggs. Not sure why they didn't settle well with you. Still happens to me sometimes on eggs n everything if I "mindless" eat my meal. I forget to chew sometimes... Lol. Boy does it hurt! I try to walk it off and that helps a little. Happy Friday everyone????????

Pre and post op liquid stages

unjury, Syntrax nectar and GENEPRO taste good and are 100% Protein isolate (that is most absorbable - no "junk" protein).
  11. I was getting tired of eggs for Breakfast, so I did the smoothie the last couple mornings. I know we're not supposed to "drink" our meals as a rule, but I figured during pureed stage it's alright. I used one container of Danon Light Yogurt, then about 4-6 oz of OJ, a couple frozen strawberries and 1 scoop of my GENEPRO unflavored Protein mix. Total calories 268, total protein 44g. That'll keep me full for a while! I sipped on it for over an hour.

    OCTOBER 2014

I haven't started tracking my calories yet. I do get in 1 Protein Drink a day of the GENEPRO, my nut says that's enough. Plus I get in at least 32 oz of liquids. I try for 64 but it doesn't always happen. I don't wait a whole hour after eating. I wait about 30-45 minutes depending on how I'm feeling. At work its hard to get in all my fluids, I do try though. And I had to switch up my Vitamins so I can get them all in. I take all but my Calcium before work, then on my 2 breaks that are usually 3 hours apart I take my calcium. It's working so far.

    OCTOBER 2014

It dawned on me at about 2AM this morning that I forgot to buy more eggs last night. So I started to panic, "What am I going to make for Breakfast?" Normally I'd just go to Subway and get a breakfast sandwich, LOL..but that's not happening now! So I had 1 yogurt left, threw that in my little Ninja with about 4oz of OJ and a few frozen strawberries and my GENEPRO unflavored protein. It took me a good 45 mins to get it down, but it really was yummy! My belly didn't like the cold so much at first. But I'd hold it in my mouth a few seconds and then swallow, LOL! For lunch, I'm having pureed chicken breast that I make last night. (added a little mayo and a spoon of veggie cream cheese--yum!!) and some pureed cauliflower and mashed taters. Barely getting the taters and cauliflower down though. I'm stuffed! I've heard about that cauliflower pizza crust, I've always wanted to try it too! I totally agree--some toast would be amazing. My 21yr old daughter and I were chatting on the phone today talking about Thanksgiving plans and I can't stop thinking of stuffing!!

I mix GENEPRO (unflavored Protein 30 grams) with crystal light. I stop at the Sonic in the morning and get a big cup of ice. I keep it at my desk and sip on it all morning. I mix another one in the afternoon and sip it all afternoon. Great way to get your proteinand Water in.

    Can someone please help me...

I've never heard anything about taking a certain amount of time to consume protein. It takes me about a half an hour to eat my Greek yogurt. Only takes me about 10 minutes to drink my soup or broth with genepro protein powder, and takes me about 15 minutes to do a protein pudding because of small bites.

    Pre op diet

This is a write up from the maker of Genepro: What makes GENEPRO so unique is that we are able to reduce the Protein molecule to half the size of normal protein through a process called Electrophoresis. This is a reverse electrical polarity method of extracting pure protein. In essence we take protein molecules that, for reference, are the size of a baseball. We push these baseball sized protein molecules through a Polyacrylamide gel (the gel stays below 87 degrees F) and introduce electricity through the gel. This process removes hydrogen ions, allergens and any fillers or binders so we are able to then bind the protein with a strand of six amino acids called a Hexapeptide which stabilizes the molecular structure. This hexapeptide increases shelf life of the protein as well as balancing the bitter taste that is present with the protein after electrophoresis and actually gives the protein a slightly sweet undertone. The protein is pushed through a filtration system and into a centrifuge which results in a pure protein molecule that is now the size of a golf ball (for reference). You may not be able to fit 30 baseballs into a shoe box but you can fit 30 golf balls. Thus giving us the ability to get 30grams of protein in a 1TBS serving size. This process also changes the caloritic count as well to 3.2 calories per gram of protein. The process as well at the hexapeptide are patent pending and have never been used before in nutrition (it's a genetic process that is used primarily in forensic science). The other interesting fact is that most protein supplements digest in the lower GI and whey is absorbed at only 31% so if you're "taking" 30g of whey, your body is only taking in 9g. Genepro is digested in the upper GI which eliminates gluten, lactose and bowel sensitivity and absorbs at a rate of 94% which makes it 3 times more effective than any other protein on the planet (medical or open market). Flavorless and odorless and can be mixed instantly in any food or beverage (hot or cold) without changing the taste or consistency. Truly the most complex and advanced protein on the planet. Each 1pound container comes with 3 empty, re-useable travel pouches that make it super convenient to use anytime, anywhere and in anything.

    anyone getting sleeved in DECEMBER?

Great tips bobbyswife! Only thing I have been doing so far is rubbing down daily with coconut oil and taking gelatin capsules to help with skin elasticity...fingers crossed. I have been using an egg and oils as a preshampoo hair mask every other week to increase protein in my hair. I did look up genepro. Anyone tried it? I know we should use whey isolate instead of the other casein blends. I was leaning towards ordering Unjury unflavored. I am also planning to order their Opurity vitamins because i wld only need one a day. Anyone concerned about wound after care? Do we use gauze or just large square bandaids? I read warm soapy water is best and nothing else.

    Pre op diet

GenePro makes a pretty good unflavored that you can add to broth. I like the syntrax as well. I bought 2 cases of premier protein and was gagging at the thought of them after day 5. Nashua Nutrition has samples for 2$ a scoop. Good Luck!!! You can do it!!

    anyone getting sleeved in DECEMBER?

@@Ronab My surgery isn't until 12/18 but I started prepping a few weeks ago. Here's what I've done. 3 weeks ago I slowly weaned myself off caffeine. 2 weeks ago I gave up alcohol and started chewing each SMALL bite of food 30 times. 1 week ago I started REALLY pushing getting my Water in. This past weekend I had my last carbonated beverage and am now water or decaf tea only. This week I also started a liver/kidney detox tea. This week I am also replacing 1 meal a day with a Protein shake, just to get in gear for my 2 week pre-op diet that starts on 12/4. On the Monday after Thanksgiving I am going to start 2 shake replacements a day. Another thing I have done is I took a cardboard box and covered it in a really pretty paper (the kind with the sticky back) and I'm keeping all my pre-op and post-op items in there. I have several brands and samples of Protein shakes, a new thermometer, GENEPRO, Biotene mouth spray, Gas-X strips, lip balm (for hospital), a Glade plug-in (for hospital), a brand new water bottle, and other things.

    Protein Shakes suggestions?

I use Bariatric Advantage from Amazon. chocolate is my favorite. Now I'm using GNC Cookies and cream, also CVS sells individual packets of their brand. I love their strawberry. I had them order me a carton and keep packets with me in the car ( I'm in sales and drive all day. Also I now use GENEPRO Protien (Amazon) this is for post surgery and is tasteless n can be added to crystal light drinks, oatmeal, anything really to boost Protein content. The Genepro Is really great directly after surgery when it is hard to get all the protein in. Good luck!!!

    4 Days Post

Today I had cream of wheat with a little agave. Propel water, protein pudding, cup of half broth and half cream of mushroom soup strained of course, added my genepro flavorless powder, water, 1/2 Greek yogurt 1/2 applesauce. So far I'm at 55 grams of protein. I'm happy.

Week 6 check in 40 lbs gone

it's hard in the beginning to get in all the Protein. There is another thread discussing GENEPRO Protein powder. I just bought some on Amazon n love it. A small amount packs 30 grams of unflavored protein. It can be added to drinks, purées , etc
  23. I've heard of some people naming their sleeves (Frankensleeve, Sherman, Miss Diva), and I actually named mine, even though she hasn't been "born" yet. Almost like anticipating a new baby (does that make me weird? lol). Since some also consider their surgery date their new birthday, too! I made myself an adorable box that I'm keeping all my post op necessities in like GENEPRO, Biotene mouth spray, a new thermometer, Gas-X strips, flavored Protein samples, mini food containers for work, even a Glade plug-in for my hospital room (thanks Elode!). I even got an adorable gastric sleeve keychain. So, here's to "Verti" my sleeve to-be! Did you name yours?

    4 Days Post

I know it's been so much easier than I anticipated. I'm feeling very blessed for that. My program doesn't have me starting protein until tomorrow. I won't have any problems because I love Greek yogurt, protein pudding, genepro flavorless powder for soup. Are you already doing protein? I am doing cream of wheat in the morning though. I hope you're doing better tomorrow. Are you on Pepcid?

Truly don't know what to do

Thank you to everyone that has replied and offered words of wisdom. I will keep trying. Yogurt of any kind, unfortunately, isn't an option for me. It's probably the only food I've had an aversion to my entire life, and it hasn't changed since surgery. I've tried mixing it into smoothies and dinner recipes...if yogurt is in it, I can taste it and I simply cannot tolerate it. My daughter is the same way when it comes to yogurt. However, I will continue to try getting my Genepro down and trying to eat high protein foods the best that I can. I will trust those of you who have said it's a phase and will pass. Good luck to those of you in the same boat as I am.
