  1. I was banded Nov 27th. All was going well until last week friday when I woke up and noticed that the last scab from my port incision had came off and the site was full of puss. I immediately call my local physician and went in. I was put on antibiotics for 10 days. Well, tonight is my last dose and am just not sure....it looks better and is no longer oozing, however it is still red and the site is "scabbed over" and the scab is yellow. Am I being a worry-wort? or should I go back in? If it was any other site, I would not be as worried, but this is my port. I am scared to even make an apt for a fill until this is all taken care of. Any advise is appreciated. Thank You yyev

    Dizzy Spells

I had the same issue. I ended up passing out and hitting my head which resulted in 10 staples. Needless to say it was not pleasant. My blood pressure was low by the time I was seen in the ER (5 hours later) but that's normal for me. I believe it was dehydration, as soon as I got the IV fluids I felt like a million bucks. I am so diligent about getting enough water now.
  3. Hi there. I just had lap band surgery on Friday, May 18th. I'm still trying to recover, I am still sore in my stomach. My surgeon went through my belly button and it is extremely sore and I can't put on my work pants yet. I've been struggling since I got out on Friday. I try to take the prescribed meds (Lortab elixer) but find it making me nauseous since I don't have much in my stomach. I was suppose to return to work today, but am still having a hard time getting up and down because of the pain in my stomach. I've read others say they're feeling great right after. I have lost 10 lbs since Friday but I find it very difficult to stomach anything I put in it. I have been drinking protein shakes, eating jell-o and broth. I hope I start to feel better and this is actually normal of a few days post-op. I look forward to sharing my story with all of you and hearing your adventure thru this process!

  6. :confused:Hi guys. I haven't been on this site in years. Sorry about that. I had LB surgery in Nov 06. The first 24 months I lost 50 lbs (which felt great). I would have been thrilled to lose 25 more and be done. I was too tight and had fill removed to be prudent. I have had at least 10 fills over 18 months and not getting appropriate restriction. Now I'm wondering if I have a leak as within 2 weeks of no restriction after last fill, there was less fill in my band. I was given more and asked to return in 2 weeks. If still no restriction, they will do fill under fluoro. So...does anyone have experience with leaks? I have tried to find info. Looks like if it's the band it's a big deal (replacement--but those are 5% of the time. The more common appear to be tubing or port. The port surgery seems reasonable and relatively simple. Help??? Laura from Florida:frown:
  7. I set my goal for 125 then decided I want to be 110 I'm currently 124 so I'm very near my goal weight but with out trying hard I feel I'm starting to become thin. I feel great but I never been this small so it's shocking everyone that see me. I know when I have plastic surgery I will be thinner all the tummy fat & skin arm skin & w.e. else will be like 10 pounds less. That's for 2014 let's see what happens. I don't want to be a skeleton neither or size 0 but if I become size 0 it's ok as long as I don't look like anorexia.
  8. I'm 58 and a great-grandmother! I was banded on February 10 and I've lost a total of 53 pounds. Never a problem at all.
  9. Well, I am back from my appointment. No Fill. My doctor's guidelines are weight loss of less than 5 lbs in one month before he will consider any further adjusting. I've lost 10 lbs in the last 5 weeks. I explained that I did not think that the band talks to me and he laughed. He said I am obviously working the system the way it should be worked and if I want to feel food in my band, I am looking for it to be too tight! I'm only 2.5 months out and have 5cc's in a 10cc band. He is afraid that I will max out if I look to have a fill too soon. Thanks for the feedback but I will follow the doctor's orders and whether it is because of the band or in spite of it, I don't plan on losing less than 5 lbs a month! 10. Well Aetna denied me not enough details, even though I had been going to my PCP monthly since July 8, Nutritionist every 2 weeks, walk the treadmill, and go to curves 2 days a week. I have lost 19 pounds so far!!! Really frustrated don't know what to do? What I was missing it my 3 month detailed report from the Doctor, I guess they sent July 8 but than only sent nutritionist report. I called Aetna and got a their fax appeal number and my dr is going to submit all the paperwork that was forgotten. Has anyone gone through this process and how long does appeal take?
  11. Ive lost 31lbs since June 1st - I was sleeved June 9th - since the 9th I have lost 24 lbs Since my surgery I have been eating basically 0% fat Greek Yogurt - Fage is a good brand. You can mix with Splenda for taste if you like. Also, Progresso Light Soups in the blender so there will be no chunks. Campbells Select Harvest is really good too. I eat 2oz at a time, 3 times a day.... and do sugar free popsicles as a filler in between - WORKS GREAT! I also do 2 Protein drinks, Mid morning - and a few hrs before dinner. 25 grams each to give me 50 for the day. ( i need 40-60). Highly recommend the GNC Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 - leanest that i have found and tastes good. (chocolate tastes like choc milk ) My Dr says to walk 10-20 min right after eating. So I follow orders! One time I didnt... and felt the difference Walking right after helps it settle, and helps you burp etc if you need to. I highly recommend it. I must be doing something right 31 lbs since June 1 baby! Good luck you will do great!!!!

    Alcoholism in loved ones

I lost my mum 10 years ago to cirrosis of the liver, after 15 years of living with -as we affectionatly called her - the ninjashebitch from hell. I loved her to pieces and still find it hard to come to terms with it all sometimes. I was given loads of advice including the 'let them hit rock bottom'.....she did.... and then she died. In my experiance the problem with that advice is, after they are gone you are left with the knowledge/guilt/horror that you abandoned them. Just my honest opinion Nina x

    I Have an Appointment!

 Hey there. My first name is actually Ramona but I go by carroline. I just thought 'Mona' seemed a little different. Anyway, thanks for the reply. I'm from east Tennessee near Chattanooga. I'm working hard to "get all my ducks in a row" so to speak. Today I found out that I have to go for a psych evaluation and I have to show my insurnace company that I have been on some sort of structured diet plan within the past two years. But then again, I have been on a structured diet plan off and on for the past 10 years and I haven't been able to keep off the weight. Oh well, go figure I guess...lol. God is in control of this thing anyway so I don't have to sweat it. Hope all is well with you and I hope to hear from you soon. May God continue to bless you.:car:

    Preoperative diet

NYU dietician suggested up to six premier Protein shakes and 2 cups of vegetables a day. 2 tbsp fat free dressing. coffee with artificial sweetener and skim milk, sugar free popsicles. No carbs. I lost 10 pounds in two weeks and was never hungry. Those shakes are the best ones IMO. Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App
  16. I can't believe tomorrow is Tuesday and on Friday I will be joining the banded club!!!! The days have gotten easier to cope with, but I am a little concerned. I keep seeing that people loose anywhere from 10-25 lbs during their pre op diet and I have lost 2 lbs according to my scale :/. I have nothing but liquids and exercise as often as I can. Anyone else discouraged in the same way?!!

Hi Levi27, In case you haven't kept up with the other thread, I don't post very often because I cannot use my own computer and have to wait until I visit in RI. Good to hear from you and I see your great weight loss!! Congrats!! I finally was banded on March 6th at Beth Israel, Dr. Jones. I am doing very well. I have lost 19 lbs, but I hope to have a fill my next visit to get a little more restriction. I felt like it took forever to get it done. I was the last one in the group from the get together. I am glad I got to see one of your posts. I figured out how to do the ticker but I cannot for the life of me transfer it to posts:phanvan Nana

    How many fills?

I have a friend who has had 10!!! And is still gaining weight....and each one was 1/2 cc or less, one month apart! It's NOT about how many.... I have only had three....but my Dr. was very aggressive, and he knows I am aggressive also so we went full speed ahead....got that Green Zone in 4 months, then took another 2-3 months of a roller coaster ride getting things (Me and my attitudes Actually) under control and a "Groove" found.... I also do not like to compare how much I have to others...everyone is a little different...some people have not had a fill...(very rare, a lot of self discipline) And my band does things for me that it does not do for many other people....does not make any of it right or wrong, it's simply the way it is....

    How many fills?

As said, it's very individual. The real question here if your getting hungry that soon, is how much protein is in your meals. My surgeon tells me if I get hungry in less than 4 hours double the protein in the next meal. I'm never able to eat the whole doubled portion. If I do this and still get hungry in less than 4 hours, it's prolly time for a fill. Also, make sure it's not head hunger. When you think you are hungry, drink 8 or 10 oz of water and wait 30 -45 minutes and try to get your mind off food. If you are still hungry, you prolly do need a fill. What everyone else has in their band isn't relevant here.
  21. Honestly, I'm not that well versed on Skype, but I found this online to help shed some light on the topic, it looks like you can get at least 10 people on at the same time http://blogs.skype.com/en/2010/09/10_way_video_calling.html. I do know Skype is free, but I've only used it once with my mom and that was fun (she is not tech savvy at all )
  22. I have BCBS of NJ but haven't submitted to the insurance company yet. I see the doctor on 10/1/14 and am hoping they submit to the insurance company right after that. I will keep you posted. I can say that I didn't have a problem being approved with the band and another surgery to fix the band. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
  23. Hello, My name is Tricia and I am scheduled to have my lapband surgery with Dr. Orris in Tempe, AZ on August 30, 2012. I am so happy that I have made this decision but I am also feeling really impatient and I want it NOW. I return to work tomorrow (I am a teacher) and I really wish I wasn't going back as I look now. I will turn 32 in a week and I have 2 kids, 6 and 10 months old. My story is that I have always struggled with weight. In the past 8 years I have been between a size 12-20. I haven't "recovered" from either pregnancy, meaning I have never lost all the weight I gained. It is NOT as easy as I thought it would be to lose the baby weight and I have the body type that even to maintain the 256 I am now requires a low calorie diet and lots of exercise. I CANNOT be any bigger than I am now, I just can't. I am used to dieting and I am excited because the lapband will be the tool I need to actually have the diets work. Any advice for these weeks before my surgery is greatly appreciated. Also, if any more information is needed I am happy to give it.

    Questions

I am having my first fill next Tuesday. I was wondering if anyone has tried putting an ice pack on the port before having the fill. I am really nervous about the fill. I really don't even like to feel the bump where the port is. Also, I have probably been eating no more than 1000 calories per day. But, I haven't lost any weight. I lost my original 10 pounds, but I feel like that is mainly just Water weight. How is is possible to eat that little and not lose any weight? That is so much less than I ate before. I am eating Protein (mainly fish and eggs) and vegetables. The old me would eat at least one if not two candy items per day. You would think even without the band I would lose eating so much less. I am hoping to lose 10 pounds by August 16, but at this rate, that is not going to happen. Any suggestions? Sandy
  25. I started getting my info together in February of this year. My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 17th. I have lost 10 lbs so far in the past 4 weeks. My doctor didn't tell me to lose any prior to the surgery. I am getting nervous, but not to the point of backing out. I have battled with being overweight for most of my life. I am tired of the yo-yo of diets. I am excited about getting to have the surgery, getting to the road of recovery and getting to the point to where my hips, knees and back don't hurt. I have been surfing thru this site. I have started purchasing some of the protein products and budgeting my finances for while I am out. I am a nurse so my doctor says I will be out for 6-7 weeks. He knows that we lift and pull and run constantly. My hubby is very supportive. He is afraid that because I have a tendency to skip meals at work that I will make myself sick. I told him that I would drink protein drinks for a meal at work. I have discussed this with my doctor as well and he understands where we both are coming from and agrees that I do need to plan for meals and that the protein drinks could be that meal at work.
