Looking for people that had their surgery on January 24th or close to it.
dvmp61 replied to Misty Barnhart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I'm on liquids until day 16 *sigh* I'm still trial and error with everything so far the only things I like are sf pudding, fudgesicles, and my crystal light, still trying to find a Protein powder I like because as of now I use GENEPRO but don't know if I should trust it has 30 grams or not. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App My doctor's office recommended a product called unjury. You have to order it from their website, but they deliver quickly. I like them because they have a sample pack for about $21, and you get 2 packets each of their Protein shakes, 2 of their chicken broth, and 2 unflavored. The kit also comes with a mixing plastic tumbler and a thermometer. This way I can try it inexpensively. So far, I've tried the soup and it was good! Just a recommendation. My Hunger Has Returned!!
Honeybee17 replied to jessjames's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think that's the same thing. This was referred by my bariatric surgeon. It is called GenePro and is sold by GNC. Look at the GNC website. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using BariatricPal mobile app -
I don't know how Im gonna make it thru the rest of this liquid diet.
viking girl replied to Crystal Ann Keister's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I have a hard time with the shakes and have one more week of liquids. I purchased Genepro from Amazon due to another sleevers recommendation. Mix it in anything and it dissolves and contains 30 grams of protein in one small scoop. That is how I will get my protein until I can add soft foods. I mixed it in cream of wheat this AM with some applesauce. Even in just 1/4 cup it mixed well and no taste. Good luck. -
Anyone tried this?
wannaBthinsoon replied to Ilovecats1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yep! I used GENEPRO unflavored with Crystal light. -
Can't seem to find a protein bar I can stand
jmar23 replied to jbaker5d's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's only 15 grams of protein since it is impossible to get 30 grams of anything into a 15 gram scoop. Search this forum for genepro. It comes up often. Just my .02 cents though so take it for what it's worth. -
Can't seem to find a protein bar I can stand
pretty.ruby replied to jbaker5d's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Genepro has an unflavored medical grade protein. That is 30 grams per table spoon. It can easily be stirred into sugar free pudding which would give you plenty of protein per meal or try it in crystal light to do double duty in raising your protein and getting your fluids for the day. Donna -
The Genepro stuff will work just fine for "normal" non-WLS people who are already getting their maintenance level of protein from their diet (even the typical American crap diet is usually adequate on protein!) and doesn't mind making expensive urine.
-
Yes Genepro is a life saver. I use it in all kinds of stuff.
-
This might sounds strange but I just put almost anything I was craving into a blender- 7 layer dip, clam chowder, white bean and ham stew, turkey/potatoes/gravy, etc. I added broth and GENEPRO to everything and it was so much better than boring shakes or standard soups!

I just reviewed this product, I will get this.

How do you guys manage all the sweets?
chocldy replied to 11072016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does the genepro have any sugar like substance at all? I don't like the fake sugar that is used either but I need more protein. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using the BariatricPal App -
The need to eat until stuffed
UNJURY replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi Mrs SugarBabe and ShelterDog64 I don't generally comment on competitive products but we believe that the GENEPRO marketing is potentially misleading. This is what was said on the message board used by bariatric dietitians back in the fall (things might have changed since then): one RD said: ----------------- "....I never heard of this product, but I am highly skeptical. When I first looked at their website I couldn't wrap my head around a 15g serving having 30g of Protein without defying the laws of physics. ..." and this is what one of the RDs here at UNJURY® Protein posted back then: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "...Using information available on the Musclegen Research website (shopmusclegen.com/protein?product_id=172), reviewed today, September 1, 2016, my calculations reveal that the nutrition label of this product may be misleading. One container of GenePro is 11.8 ounces, or 334 grams. There are 30 servings per container, and the label indicates that one serving provides 30 grams of protein. Therefore, 1 container should provide 900 grams of protein. You may check my calculations to ensure they are correct using the link provided. If your calculations are equivalent to mine, do you believe it’s possible for 334 grams of powder to contain 900 grams of protein?..." If you have more questions about this, you can call the UNJURY® Protein toll free number and ask for Jerome. I hope this is helpful. Jerome at UNJURY® Protein -
I had revision from band to sleeve on August 17. I have lost about 18 pounds which seems pretty good to me. I feel like I am learning to eat all over again. I seem to be doing pretty good with getting my protein in with the Genepro and I struggle a bit with the water. Last week I began to feel nausea and I realized I was eating too much. If I stick to 3 to 4 ounces I feel fine. My surgeon has advanced my diet as I can tolerate. I can eat salad or, anything really, just not much of it. My cravings are under control and I can have small amounts of sugar, like one Hershey kiss, and it does not seem to throw me into the trenches of hell of increasing my cravings for bad choices. I watch my macros which I have set for 20% carbs, 30% fat and 50% protein. For the most part I am hitting that or getting close enough. I am trying to establish life long eating habits without having foods that are completely removed from my diet. Eating out is hard because I tend to waste so much food. People say to save it and eat it later however I usually will never get to eating it because I just do not eat very much. I think I am going to have to eat 4 to 6 small meal/snacks a day to get my needs met. I am up to about 5 to 600 calories a day, but I know that is not sufficient, so I try to increase as I can. I know my body is in starvation mode because I have not moved on the scale for about 3 weeks. I am taking my Flintstone multi and a vitamin D daily and I also have some calcium chews. I do see a nutritionist but have not been able to get in since my surgery. Does this look like I am doing things correctly?

Best flavorless protein powder?
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to ebroms17's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I hesitate to even say this. I got some back talk from talking about it before. But...I have tried many proteins and couldn't do them. Until I found GENEPRO I add it to my Espresso everyday. Some say that it isn't good because they say it has 30grams of protein in 1 tablespoon. Even Bariatric store on here sells it. I buy my on line. If you are worrid about it ask your Dr first. It is the only unflavored protein I have found that mixes well and doesn't taste bad. Good Luck -
Gastric Bypass in Memphis
Tarver11 replied to LakeishaNicole's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you! Yes I had the gastric bypass (laparoscopic), I have 4 small incision scars and 1 small scar where the drain was. I take 2 Flinstones Complete, 4 Calcium Citrate (500mg) 3000mcgs of biotin (helps with hair loss/regrowth) and B12. I do not buy the bariatric vitamins that are sold, all of mine come from Walgreens (I would guess i spend ~20$ per month on vitamins). I do supplement my protein with Genepro unflavored medical grade protein from GNC, I go thru a tub of it about every week and half to 2 weeks, it runs about $38. However the $ i spend on not eating fast food or diet sodas more than equals out monthly. I also no longer buy a meal when my husband and I go out, I generally just get an appetizer or maybe an add on like a skewer of shrimp...so cost wise Its definitely a wash. -
The need to eat until stuffed
bleonhardt replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's almost ALL about self-control at where you and I are post-operatively! You're not meeting your protein goals, which is devastating to weight loss and feeling satiated by your food. I've not done the best job during the holidays, and I'm in a 3 week long stall right now. I know it's because I'm not keeping my carbs down and my protein up, and I'm not tracking every bite I put into my mouth. You should be losing more/more consistently than you are, maybe a re-start with Protein shakes and then advancing yourself through the different stages to reset your diet would be helpful. And you don't mention using any Protein powder...I still have to use it to get my protein grams high enough. On a normal day, I use GENEPRO unflavored in my morning coffee, so I start off with 20-30 grams of protein in a 12 ounce mug of coffee, with monkfruit sweetener and cream. Some days I have a container of plain yogurt with a little low-carb granola mid-morning, or cottage cheese with a tablespoon of pureed fruit stirred in. Lunch, I eat a cheese stick and a couple of slices of deli turkey. I have a handful of almonds or half an apple with Peanut Butter for an afternoon snack, then 3-4 ounces of my family's dinner protein and around 1/4 cup of vegetables. And I almost always have a sugar-free popsicle before dinner. That typical day gets me about 850 cals, 95 grams protein and 50 grams of carbs, with only 21 of them being sugars. I lose when I'm eating like that...80 lbs since the end of June. You've got the tool in place, you just need to commit to using it correctly, find ways to distract yourself when you're hungry (exercise, clean house, work, garden...whatever works) and get back on track. There's literally no reason for you to NOT be successful! Go get it, you CAN do this!! Does the genpro change the consistency of your coffee at all? I can not wait until I have a taste for coffee again lol but think that is a great idea to meet protein goals! Just can not do a consistency change as I won't enjoy it! Lol Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App -
I started green tea after surgery, didn't do coffee again until 2 months out. But I had a quick surgery, no complications, kept it slow to see what I could tolerate. I don't do cream in coffee, but I have taken to putting half a scoop of GENEPRO in my coffee with stevia and Vietnamese cinnamon.

Hey! Where do you buy your Genepro from -- Amazon? Currently on Protein shakes but if I can mix it into my food later that'd be cool too. Can't wait till next week when I can have pudding. Do you think it's the best flavorless protein powder? I was going to order my genepro from Amazon but thought I would check out GNC just in case. GNC does carry it and it was a few dollars cheaper. Oddball here - dislike Premiere - Thoughts?
doxaholic replied to tinytummy17's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thats where i currently find myself post surgery trying different shakes and not having a lot of luck. I have tried gnc unflavored not bad but i keep getting a severe aftertaste. Tried premier mix it is okay but not for everyday the already mixed were too chalky and thick. The one i really liked was genepro but that one has alot of controversey behind it and i am not sure i want to bet my health on it. So ultimately it is syntrax tried alot flavors and found some that are tolerable. Plus they have lots of flavors that i can interchange through the week. I actually liked the grapefruit and road side lemonade the best but there was nothing wrong with the other flavors either. As for unflavored fixing to try the unjury medical grade hmm we shall see. MINI GASTRIC BYPASS AND ACID REFLUX
Frustr8 replied to NYCGAL000's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Tablet, my cheap PartD drug coverer, Silver Scripts, won't pay for liquid, so I dissolve, stir and drink the slurrey down, about as tasty as drinking white flour paste. Dr Noria, my surgeon's partner who does my endoscopies, Dr Needleman my actual Surgeon and one of the Nurse-Practioners, Valerie, all gave, me a script for the same thing, I now have 253 in bottles, Wal-Mart Pharmacy called to remind it was time for a refill of another 120, now where do they expect me to keep these? Now I know why some people sell their meds, these are cluttering up my pill dresser. Yeah I have one of those, top drawer is current meds , second drawer is Miralax, Benfiber and 1 package of Genepro. The Gold Standard 100% whey isolate was going there too, got it on sale at Wal-Mart for $3.00, joke is on me, the individual envelopes are Strawberry, not plain. Imagine what it would have been like if I stirred into soup or broth! And the bottom drawer is inactive meds, nope no opiods, I still have Norco up in the active, but I have to be backed up against the wall in pain, it constipates me so freely. Sometime I will relate the Trek to the Milk and Molasses Enema, really harder to live through than my actual surgery, nobody wants to be entered on records as" Little Old Lady full of S***", pretty darn demeaning in the ER . Hated them knowing I didn't have my act together FECAL-wise! -
SassyMedic GENEPRO isn't completely tasteless and there may be some clumping. I slowly mix it in and if there are clumps let them sit for a few minutes and then keep mixing until there aren't anymore visible clumps. Hope you're feeling great soon! I'm POD 4 and still sore, but I don't think I've taken it easy enough. I relaxed a lot today. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Everything is going okay. I miss chewing though🥺 getting in my water is a struggle. I can only drink warm lemon water. I’m up to 5 cups. I hate all my protein shakes now. I found I can take Fairlife 1% plus genepro unflavored protein powder with only a little issue. I’m happy overall though. How are you doing?

Ok everyone, here goes..... I started my one week pre-op diet today. My surgery is in one week, June 7th, 2016 and my nerves are really kicking in. I have seen several people posting their stories in this forum, so I thought I'd give it a go. It will be nice to have one place I can update everyone and keep track of my progress. After reading so many inspiring stories in this discussion thread, I hope that one day, I can do the same. I'm all stocked up on Protein shakes/ powders (Premier Protein shakes, unjury protein powders, Syntrax protein powders, and GENEPRO protein powder), broths, teas, and sugar free Jello. Luckily, my pre-op diet allows a dinner consisting of 3 ounces lean meat, 1 cup veggies, 1/2 cup fruit. Thank goodness! And now for the hard part, posting my weight. Sigh.....First, my height is 5'6" HW- 290+ SW-287 GW- 160-175 There...I did it. Hopefully, I will never see those numbers again.

Honest truth about genepro protein powder
James Marusek replied to PittsburghRNYgirl9814's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I never tried GENEPRO so I cannot answer your question. I found Protein shakes to be almost unpalatable. But there are many choices available and one needs to experiment until one finds one that can be tolerated. I used Muscle Milk Light. The protein powders cannot be mixed by hand but a blender such as a Ninja or Bullet Blender should be used. I found that by blending in a banana, it made the Protein shake more palatable. There are also premixed Protein drinks available and some are tasty. There is another type of product called Protein Ice. It has 42 grams of protein in a 20 ounce bottle. It comes in a number of flavors. I tried it and found that it tasted horrible, but my wife tried it and thought it tasted O.K. Another choice is milk. During the winter months, I drink a cup of hot cocoa (no sugar added). -
Honest truth about genepro protein powder
PittsburghRNYgirl9814 posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am a little over 3 weeks post bypass and am having severe nausea to the point of looking at protein shakes and dry heaving. My dr is well aware of this issue and I had blood work drawn today- no results yet. My question is I cannot handle any taste of protein powder and I have read that genepro can be mixed into anything and is truly tasteless so I'm wondering if anyone has actually tried it and how "tasteless" it is. Thanks!
