Wow you guys are prepared it's making me feel really bad. My surgery date 9/15. I just bought my Vitamins and GENEPRO on Amazon. I'm afraid to buy shakes because Everyone warns of change in taste and I'm the one with a sensitive stomach to begin with. Seeing you picture now have me freaking out . I had my surgery this morning (12 hours ago) and I feel fantastic

Great News! Take it slowly. Ramp up to the Protein and Fluid goals. If you need help with getting protein into things like applesauce, Soup or yogurt try GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. 1 tablespoon has 30g protein and 98 cals. I still use Premium protein (Choc and vanilla) premade drinks from costco. 30g 160 cals. Couldn't have kept my protein high without these 2 products. Best Wishes!! Help with water intake and protein
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to alemapsept15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suggest finding a high protein powder. I am preop but was having a hard time getting the 64oz liquid plus the protein drinks down. I found genepro medical grade protein and add it to my shakes, jello and sometimes other bevetages to boost my protein. Its 30g per tbs and has very little of the "ugh thats protein powder" flavor. Its does have a protein powder smell, but not bad according to my husband. -

I agree a hundred percent. I been buying since March. The only thing I'm not getting again is the Genepro. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app -
Bob, I work for he federal government in an agency that regulates food. cynthiarm2000, I admire you for eating the way you do. I would very much like to be eating organic...grass fed...ethically treated...minimally processed...uncured.. ...foods. I would like to have my own chickens, so I know they are humanely treated in the eggs I eat. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to purchase organic, grass-fed, ethically treated products. They do cost more than the factory farmed ones in the grocery store. Working full time, I don't have the time to raise my own chickens. How has my identity changed since surgery? I'm now called "skinny". I concentrate on getting my Water in, Protein in, taking supplements, getting regular exercise and doing things one day at a time. I try not to preach weight loss surgery to those I am so tempted to prosleytize to. I know that people have to come to their own decision about weight loss surgery, since it is highly personal and everyone is different. Before surgery, I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Now I have to do a considerable amount of planning regarding what I will eat, when I will eat it and how I will prepare it. Because I am not a cook, work full time and have a busy life, I live on GENEPRO Protein powder and Quest bars right now. I would like to do more cooking when I retire in 7 years. I hope to raise chickens in 7 years but I'm thinking that may change too. I would like to travel when I retire as well. Having chickens to take care of and traveling don't work well together. I think you'll find some adjustments to your occupation as a "food guy" but I wonder if it may give you an opportunity as well. You will be in a position to create new recipes that are high in protein and lower in carbs. IMHO there will be an opportunity in the near future for those businesses catering to people like me who are needing high protein, low carb meals. I notice advertisements are proclaiming how much protein their products have. I LOVE it when I can go to a restaurant and they have something tasty on a menu which fits into my food plan. Something that doesn't come in a HUGE portion that is high protein and low carb. I don't know if my rambling helps you or not. I wish you success with your surgery and hope you have an easy recovery. Blessings, Kathleen

Sick of clear liquid diet, rather eat nothing.
Tami_Lynn replied to LxA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm stumped by that! I don't understand why you cant have Protein drinks! They are what was pushed the MOST for me and everyone I know who has had this surgery. I hope you get it soon. I ordered "Genepro" from amazon. It is medical grade protein and has 30 grams per small scoop, not sure if you actually absorb the entire 30 but as with any supplement, you don't absorb all of it. I put it in my Water as its flavorless. It does thicken the water slightly but I don't mind it. -
Protein Recommendations
Elizabeth21 replied to jenniferg2013's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I weaned off shakes altogether beginning week 3, so hang in there, you won't have to deal with them forever. I also added unflavored Protein to foods/drinks to up protein intake without using shakes. (I like it in diet lemonade and bouillon.) I ordered GENEPRO from Amazon.com. One teaspoon adds 10 grams protein. Good luck! -

Lesley-vsg, try the protein powder Genepro fro Amazon. It is 30gm protein in 1 tablespoon. I put it in my morning milk, cream of wheat, yogurt almost anything. It has no taste. I mix 1c chocolate lactaid, 1/2 banana and 2T. Powder. I drink 1/2 in the morning 34gm protein. If I don't get in enough protein thru-out the day, I drink the rest before bed. I get 68 gm protein every day. Having a backup plan is key. -
Heightened smells and gag reflex

Are you having any Protein drinks or shakes? Do you just keep going back to liquids? What protein are you keeping down? Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App I can put GENEPRO in my yogurt and sometimes get a premier Protein shake down(I have to force myself but it depends on if I can get my gagging under control). Nothing tastes the way I remember it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Get some unflavored Protein powder - I have GENEPRO & unjury chicken. I add the chicken flavors to chicken broth or Soups. The genepro mixes in other soups (be careful of the temperature), yogurts, cottage cheese, puddings, coffee, teas too. Try adding the Premier Protein (4 ounces) into some coffee and Fairlife protein milk is also good. I'm almost 3 Months out and these have helped me meet my protein goals. smoothie king also has a gladiator protein that I enjoy on occassion. I have tried the nectar protein but don't care for them very much. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

Does anyone actually like their protein drink?
Stevehud replied to AvaFern's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I post video taste tests of Protein powders and ready mades on my blog at http://cuttingthefatwithaknife.blogspot.com I will say be very very careful most protein powders have both regular ( non diet) and diet versions. Such as Muscle milk has regular which is for body builders and designed to put on weight. and muscle milk lite, which is for dieters. so be careful. I know one big issue I have is with the GENEPRO, it says you get 30 grams of protein from 1 tablespoon of product, which is impossible because one tablespoon is 15 grams, so how you can get 30 grams of protein from 15 grams of product beats me I even posted on their face book page and sent them an email and my posts get erased and emails go unanswered. I have asked friends who are chemists and one food additive manufacturer with a phd in food sciences and both tell me its not possible there is no way this is a factual statement, both felt it was a marketing ploy where they are using weight vs volume in the same sentence. Personally I enjoy the Syntrax nectars the best so far , matrix also very very good, I also like a particular chocolate by twin lab but its very hard to find. Particularly I enjoy the vanilla torte, and the fuzzy navel, I also enjoy the Cappuccino, and it uses totally decaf coffee in its flavor. Now if you have allergy issues or want a really mild taste look for abouttime yes its one word you can find it online or at some gnc's and natural food stores. they make a product called fill shake and go, its a pre loaded plastic disposable bottle, you just op the top an add liquid , shake it up and drink. but it has very few ingredients, just 4 total, the flavors are extremely mild, almost not there, I recommend the strawberry chocolate, birthday cake and vanilla, the banana is ok but you have to like banana, per se. find them online. Hope this helps. -

Genepro protein powder. It’s a tablespoon of powder for 30 grams of protein! I mix it into pudding, sugar free hot chocolate, water, crystal light, oatmeal. It’s unflavored. Works great! I got it on Amazon

Well said PAstudent!! I wonder if your Surgeon or Nutronist has given you any guidelines? It is a work in progress, you HAVE too do the work. If you want to be successful track your food. Did your Dr say you can eat solid foods? Yu are just 1 month out, I had the RNY and I had to do Protein Drinks for 4 weeks after surgery. Then I went to soft blended foods. But to tell you the truth I was to scared to eat at all. I still use my GENEPRO protein with my espresso everyday to help me get my protein in. Hon, protein helps ud heal. Please work on getting the amount that you were told to do, also drink lots of fluids because with surgery our pouches can't hold much at a time and you don't want to become dehydrated. That is a whole another dilemma. Take care and keep us posted. If I can help in anyy way just ask. -
It depends on what stage you are at in your journey. If you are pre-op now, I wouldn't worry about using protein shakes. Trust me, you will get sick of them soon after surgery, so you don't want to exacerbate the problem by drinking protein shakes before you need to. Best protein sources pre surgery and post surgery are fish and lean meats. Greek yogurt and cottage cheese help as well (just keep the carbs below 20g per yogurt). You can get plant based proteins, as well, but I found it is a lot harder until you get further along. In my first few weeks, I mixed the protein powder with broth, diluted 100% juice, FairLife milk, and I actually made these 2 once jello cups and mixed in the Genepro. Each Jello cup gave me 12.5 grams of protein. As I went into pureed foods, I did a lot of soups. Mostly of my own making, because so many of the store bought soups have too much sodium in them. The recipe for the jello cups: 1 box of sugar free Jello with 5 scoops of GenePro protein. Makes 14, 2oz cups. I bought the cups from the dollar tree. They are plastic with lids that restaurants will send home condiments in.

I'd highly recommend GenePro. It's pretty expensive but, it is worth it 100%. On amazon it is $47 for 47 servings. BUT the key is that the scoop amount is so much smaller, approx. 2 tablespoons for 30grams of protein. I found that when I was only a few weeks post op, I couldn't consume that much liquid. So when I went to mix in unflavored protein powder, the amount of powder wouldn't mix in right. It would be chunky or "grainy". With Genepro, I could still get in my protein requirements with less powder and less liquid. Plus it mixes well with hot and cold liquids.

I'm 2 weeks out from Lapband revision with Gastric bypass surgery and I also do well with the GenePro. Because it's 30gm protein per serving, I take it with a cup of crystal light in the morning & early evening. With approved low fat Greek yogurt, it meets my protein goal. Can't stand the taste of a few others that seemed tolerable prior to surgery. I found the GenePro at GNC. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone Use Genepro?
Suzannestylin replied to cuteNATL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Love Genepro! I put it in yogurt, sugar free pudding, Soup. Anything liquid, it's great I buy it on EBay or Amazon for best price. The 90 serving size is best price. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
I like Genepro. Been using it for a long time as practically my sole protein source, mixes with everything. My labs came out great (i.e. Total serum, Albumin/Globulin) every time so I keep using it. In the past, I have written the company to ask for some data on a particular lot I bought but to no avail. As I said in a prior thread, maybe they just don't want to give out any hints of their purification process. I can understand that since their product is quite different than most protein sources out there. I use it when what I naturally eat that day doesn't hit my protein mark, it comes quite handy (soups, drinks, hot or cold). Nature's best Isopure (lots of other companies as well) was part of a class action suit for protein spiking and misrepresenting the concentration of their protein. Personally, I never tried the unflavored, so I wouldn't know about the miscibility aspect of it.

Opinions in Genepro protein powder?
Thinkingthinner1109 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have seen that others have mentioned it on here, it says there is 30 grams of protein in a tablespoon instead of a huge scoop and it mixes well in hot water and has no taste. 0 sugar and 1 carb. -
Protein Goal/Shopping List
SassyNanny replied to DuckieXD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder from Anazon. No flavor at all. It is a very fine powder and usually dissolves well. I put in lots of things. Last night I had SF pudding made with nonfat milk and added the powder to the already set pudding. It didn't blend in all the way but the lumps were just chocolatey bumps like old fashioned cooked pudding could get. No biggie. I use it in my bottled Water with Mio drops. Soup, mashed veggies, spaghetti sauce. I whip it into my raw egg for an omelet. 30g Protein 98 cal a one tablespoon serving. My saving grace for getting my protein numbers up. Best Wishes! Those of you having issues with the shakes, I was tipped off that you can mix GENEPRO with sugar free hot chocolate. I tried it the other day and it wasn't bad! 2 scoops of Genepro is 30g of Protein.

My nut and my surgeon both recommended genepro. It’s the only thing I’ve been able to tolerate. I really like it and have had no problems with it.
