    Need Help...starving

It sounds like you're feeling better, but I also wanted to let you know that split pea Soup (cambells even) has a lot of Protein and is pretty low cal. I ate it alot post op. I eat the greek yogurt post fill now, also, if you're concerned about the thickness, add some milk and blend it together. Only a day and a half and just think of the boost in weight loss!!!

    Protein shakes

Hi! I can not stand protein shakes. I add génepro to my chicken broth...and take a yogurt that has 13 gr. Protein. ...can you give me ideas? I don't know what else ...I would like natural skakes...thank you
  4. Hi - year on 3/16. I'm down from about 300 to 218 lbs. I haven't lost a pound since about Thanksgiving. I had my gall bladder out and was extremely addicted to Pain pills from about Sept 2015 to Jan 2016 when the docs stopped writing scripts. I was drinking a lot of alcohol and just gave up on eating regular food (Protein & veggies) and pretty much just lived on sweets and carbs. Maybe yogurt and milk in my coffee. Pretty pathetic. I'm in recovery now, and trying to really cut out carbs and refined sugar, eat more protein and Fiber (veggies and soluble fiber). I won't even go see my surgeon because I'm embarrassed. I don't exercise but my partner and I will be moving to a different city soon with access to jogging / biking trails right out our new house. Anyway, I hope it's not too late for me. I have not gained back but the "honey moon" phase is over. I can eat more than I used too when it comes to carbs. Oddly, they don't make me full, only when I eat meat is when I'm stuffed. I hate meat lol. But, back on track and getting healthy again. I'm seeing a counselor about my addictions and hope all of us 1 year anniversary gals who kinda just stopped losing short of our goals will persist and succeed! Prayers to you all.

Post Op Foods - Returning to Work

It depends on your plan post-op. Each plan is different. Mine was full liquids (yogurts, soups, shakes) the two weeks, then purees, then soft foods, then full meals all at 2 week intervals. So by 8 weeks out I was eating "normal" food. I have two teen daughters and a husband and I am a planner too. Generally before shopping each week I plan the protein for each night so I'm not scrambling with the what to cook or make with this issue when I get home. I just kept up my normal routine for them. During my first 2 weeks, I ate lots of greek yogurt and soup. Sometimes the eggface ricotta bake. I fed my family the usual stuff we would eat. In purees, if I made them meatloaf, I'd just mash mine up more - same with chili. By the third phase - it was lots of chicken and fish. For work, I don't have access to a fridge, so I pretty much pack the same thing on my office days. (I work from home a few days a week.) Chicken salad, romaine lettuce, yogurt and a cheese snack. Sometimes an apple (but I'm 1+ year out.) I didn't freeze stuff before surgery and I'm glad I didn't - my taste buds were off for a few weeks after surgery.

    Three more days!

Three more days till I get my fill! I'm all stocked up with my liquids and mushies for the first couple days out. I'm getting excited! My little guy and I went to the zoo today. I just had to take advantage of this lovely 70 degree weather we're having. Walked my tail off! I wish I had thought to grab my pedometer; it'd be nice to know exactly how far I walked. I've been having a bit of a week long "last supper". It hasn't been total junk, just things that I know I won't be able to tolerate once I get restriction again. Like tonight I'm making chicken pad thai for dinner. Noodles are a no-no usually. I've also been eating cereal like it's going out of style. I love cereal, but generally can't eat that either. I think it's that it gets mushy in the milk and then gets stuck. Oh well. Enjoying my Special K yogurt and berries for now. And sandwiches too - I had Jimmy Johns earlier this week. Okay, I guess I should stop obsessing.

    Please help - 2nd day

So I was right. I WAS allowed watered down yogurt. I just couldn't handle it. Should I go get a defill or just wait it out??
  8. @@theatrejo -time yourself and measure. If you are eating for more than twenty minutes you are probably full. I would stick with hydration being you priority at this point. Yogurt is a slider so its hard for me to feel full on it at four months. I have pretty much been able to eat a 5oz cup from the first day of soft foods on 3 days post-op.

    Super Snack Foods

Healthy snack ideas for your hungry stomach. For many of us, snack time is when we lose control of our diets, either by overeating, or by indulging in high-fat, high-calorie foods. This often happens because we allow ourselves to get too hungry and then are unable to stop ourselves from overeating, says Dee Sandquist, spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association and manager of the Nutrition and Diabetes Center at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington. To avoid getting too hungry, Sandquist says she recommends always carrying a healthy, portable snack with you when you know you'll be out on the run without easy access to healthy food choices. Try getting at least two food groups in each of those Snacks so that you're getting a combination of carbohydrates and fat/protein, which will help keep you satiated longer, she adds. Here, some super snack food ideas: Plain Yogurt with Blueberries - Pair plain yogurt with blueberries for a sweet treat that has a similar texture to ice cream. Yogurt is a great source of Calcium and Protein, and blueberries are packed with valuable antioxidants that help fight off heart disease. If fresh blueberries aren't in season, try frozen instead they work great in cool, creamy yogurt. Or if you get bored with blueberries, substitute any other frozen fruit like cranberries or cherries. Recommended Serving Size: Plain, low-fat yogurt, 1/2 cup, 56 calories Blueberries, 2/3 cup, 30 calories banana with Almond Butter - This combination will keep you satiated for a longer time than either on their own because of the combination of Fiber in the banana and protein and fat in the almond butter. Bananas are also an excellent source of potassium, which helps prevent muscle cramps and is essential for normal brain function. Of course, Peanut Butter would be a great substitute for almond butter. Recommended Serving Size: Medium banana, 95 calories Almond butter, 1 tablespoon, 101 calories Hummus with Pita Bread - Made from chickpeas, hummus provides protein, fiber, and carbohydrates. Spread hummus on pita bread for some added carbohydrates. Also try putting some veggies on your bread to make a great sandwich. Recommended Serving Size: Hummus, 2 tablespoons, 83 calories Pita bread, 1 round, 195 calories Apple with Brie cheese - Stick to a small amount of cheese with this snack because of brie's high saturated fat content. However, brie does offer a good protein source. Apples have a low glycemic index, which means they keep hunger at bay longer than other fruits. Recommended Serving Size: Apple, 47 calories Brie cheese, 2 ounces, 160 calories Salsa w/ Baked Tortilla chips - Ingredients in salsa vary greatly, but most tomato-based vegetable salsas are an excellent source of antioxidants, Vitamin C, and lycopene, which helps prevent heart disease and some cancers. Avoid high-calorie fried chips by purchasing the baked varieties instead, and be sure to look for varieties that list zero trans fats on their nutrition labels. Recommended Serving Size: Salsa, 2 ounces, 20 calories Baked tortilla chips, 1 ounce, 120 Light Microwave Popcorn - Although this is a single-food snack, Sandquist says she recommends it because of its high fiber and B vitamin content. Plus, who can resist the smell of popcorn? Recommended Serving Size: 1 cup, 30 calories
  11. I was banded on Monday 5-9-11 and told that I need to stay on a liquid diest until I meet with the Dr on the 20th... Its impossible, not only can I not get enough liquids in me from the swelling but I am truly starving... I am probably getting around 400-600 calories in a day right now and I find the cravings are worse then the two week diet before the surgery... I have been cheating and trying the greek (thick) yogurts, icecream, and others items like this to help me out, but i am really not sure if this is hurting me or not, things seem to go down smoothly, but am i creating problems with the size of my pouch, the stiches holding the band in place, and whatever other crazy idea my mind can dream up... Today i blew off my kids game because i am depressed on just not sure what is going on with me inside... I am not sure if i am right but i think i can appreciate were you coming from and only say its going to take stamina right now to get through this... as much as the shakes arent that great as long as i have some in me i dont have any cravings, but as soon as they burn off there better be a lock on the fridge...

    Seafood

I wish I could have them.but my taste buds are bad the sf jello or pudding are way to sweet now and the yogurt just can't stomach it. I have gone thru 3 different chewable vitamins can not stand any, protein water neither. Just hoping to get to my puree stage because looking forward to egg, tuna and chicken salad. Hope my taste buds like them. Keeping my fingers cross. Good luck Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Im confused as to whether or not Im allowed to have milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. The paperwork I got from my surgeon contradicts itself. On the one hand, they say not to have milk products, but in another section of a different handout they gave me it says to keep snacks like yogurt and string cheese handy. So, which is it? What were the instructions everyone got regarding milk products post surgery?

Little fill - 4 months from surgery

I had a very little fill yesterday .2 ccs. I thought I was already at 6 ccs, but the doctor said I was actually at 5.8. so now I am at 6. I am doing soft foods for today just to be safe. I lost 3.5 lbs in the past 2 weeks. I am now down 30 lbs!!!!! I have noticed that I am pretty tight in the morning and can not really eat anything solid. I started eating a few bites of yogurt when I wake up just to have food in the pouch and jump start my metabolism. Night eating is still the hardest part of my day. I get bored or something and want to munch. Any helpful ideas????? I do sugar free popsicles already. All in all I am really happy and pleased with the weight loss and the progress. My clothes fit better and my joints feel much better. I know I still have a long way to go, but I am on the right track at least and making head way. Oh and I have never had blood preasure issues, but when they took it yesterday it was 117/78. She said that was ideal!!!!! How cool. :smile2:

    HIGH QUALITY multivitamins

I've been taking vitamins in capsule form, the ones recommended by my surgeon, since 7 day's post op. Prior to that, I was breaking the capsules open and mixing the powder inside into my protein shakes and drinkable yogurt. But I was cleared to start swallowing them whole at 7 days post-op. One capsule, three times a day.
  16. I have been trying to find a Protein shake that didn't taste like a Protein Shake and I think my wife has hit the nail on the head! She knows I like Peanut Butter and chocolate is good with so much! So she created this for me. I just had a serving and it is soo good. 5 oz container of Danon Light n Fit Toasted Coconut Greek Yogurt 5 oz of low fat milk 3 tablespoons of Jiff Peanut powder 1 Scoop chocolate Protein Powder 4 ice cubes 4 oz serving has 22 grams of protein It may not be to everyone's liking, but it hits the spot for me. Good luck to everyone and I hope you all have a wonderful day!
  17. Ditto to all these suggestions. Bean soups have tons of protein and you can purée them to fit your "mushy food" phase if you want to. Drink skim milk (1g protein per oz) Have you tried plain Greek Yogurt with SF syrup or water flavor drops? I'm on soft foods and still can't even come close to getting enough protein without my shakes. Maybe get unflavored protein powder and add it to EVERYTHING. I even add mine to my mashed potatoes (but I still eat no more than 1/4 cup/day) But it definitely seems you need to decrease carbs and really up the protein.
  18. Depends how tight they do it too - my surgeon uses a larger (36) tube but pulls very tight around it, so there's swelling and he knows it will take me several weeks to tolerate solids. I am 23 days out, and I am tolerating small amounts of soft mush, yogurts, soups. Many things like chicken, fish, egg that I've tried, although soft, got stuck then made me slime until I threw them back up and felt instantly better. I am losing weight so I am not concerned.
  19. You are doing so well. I really struggled to get protein in too, its tough in the beginning. The advice I was given was just do my best every day. You will loose your stamina if you don't keep your calorie count but you have a few weeks grace yet. Eating high protein yogurts and drinking a shake a day should give you 50 grams of protein. This is a great boost of energy and if you choose wisely, low cal too. At the end of my day, I total my protein, using a app and if I am short I have some cheese, skimmed milk or a protein pudding. It will all get easier in the weeks to come
  20. Hi Eveyrone! Okay, had my surgery on August 6th and tomorrow I get to start eating things like eggs, yogurt, refried Beans, etc. I can also eat baby food but YUCKO...that is just not for me. I believe I am on this for a week or so and then move to soft foods and then normal foods at abour 4 weeks out. The day I began my liquid diet I was 311 per my scales. On surgery date I was 299 and today, almost one week out I am 287. Wow! I am down 25 pounds from start of liquid diet to today and down 12 pounds, so far, since surgery. I am having to work at my liquids....sipping, sipping, sipping. My hubby bought a diet Dr. Pepper today and although I don't even like them I would have paid good money to have just a taste but didn't want to go there at all so I didn't. Whew! Took a dose of pain meds last night and instead of helping me relax they seemed to make me keyed up instead. Didn't make for a restful night and today was my first day back at work. Will try to do just relaxation techniques tonight and stay clear of the pain meds. Can notice a huge differnce in a few of my shirts and it seems unreal to be at this point already. Woohoo!! Petrified of getting a leak so being super careful about what I am taking in and I take my temperature all the time. Not so much today at work but at times it tends to be a OCD thing. Any words of adivce??? I am urinating just fine BUT, and this may be a bit TMI, when should I expect to have a bowel movement? I mean I am passing gass all sorts of ways but nothing is happening as far as having a BM. Should I be concerned? What were some of your favorite foods when you moved into the soft food stage? Am looking for ideas to keep my tastebuds happy. xoxo

    Carb question

My Dr and almost every plan I have seen is against grains. And even though there are grains like maltomeal and cream of wheat on my plan as options, my Dr still says to avoid them if possible. I see a lot of people eating cheese and crackers or crackers with their tuna salad. Or all the people that eat yogurt. Still 60-80 grams of carbs seems impossible with a tiny stomach, and still getting Protein in.
  22. Heather, can you get liquids down? If not, call your surgeon ASAP. If you can't get any kind of solids down, you might call now anyway and get a slight unfill. Are you able to get yogurt or protien shakes down? You need some form of nutrition. Rebecca, I have days where I am hungrier than others. It is just the way of things. I asked my surgeon about it. He said that the stomach moves a little bit within the confines of the band giving more restriction some days than others. Other things can affect it as well, such as your level of hydration or Water retention. For some, altitude plays a role in restriction level. What I have learned is that now I am like my normal weight friends, some days they are hungrier than other days. It is what it is. For me, it's all good. Except when I get stuck.

    Whats happening ?

Potato chips and corn chips are no longer a slider for me. I'm too tight for them to be a slider. No matter how much I chew them up they cause pain. I think sometimes it is a texture thing too. Anything that will melt like icecream or chocolate is for sure a slider. I do not avoid all sliders or I would suffer from malnutrition or starvation. My band is pretty tight and even tighter in the mornings. Some foods that may be considered sliders are on my regular menu......yogurt, cream of wheat, soup ...... I just try to stay away from the high cal. ones like icecream.
