trouble with weight loss pre-surgery
jazma replied to SusanR62's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I did a liquid diet-protein drinks (low carbs, low sugar) and yogurt (LF, LS) and drank 64+ oz water a day and dropped weight fats..And i walked 2+ miles a day on the treadmill. -
Ok, I got in a bit earlier for my second fill, yesterday 3/16, thank God....the hunger was getting pretty much. No portion control, and stall of weight loss, even with some exercise. So, now I feel a bit tight, having a bit of difficulty getting even the soft yogurt down. I am going to try to make it without calling the doc to unfill. I think after my stomach heals from the additional 1.7cc, I will be ok with eating again. Not hungry, mind is clear...no grazing, I think I will be fine and even might find my new total amt 6.4cc in my band, just might be the right amt for this month. Oh, got the Wii game.."Dancing with the stars" and love it. Time goes so fast when you are having fun. I have found myself sweating, that's a good thing. Patti with a smile:smile2:

Looking for some advice from longtimers!
Tiffykins replied to Timetofly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I suffered the liquids in liquids out until I got to mushies. Greek yogurt helped, and I know a few other members bought some Probiotics to mix in their water/crystal light to help with the gi tract. My surgeon didn't prescribe a PPI until I talked to him about it. I had this kind of weird twinge in my stomach after I would eat something, and then I felt like I could eat again. I can't say it was hunger, but it was weird. I went on Prilosec 20mg once daily, and haven't had any issues since. I didn't go on the Prilosec until about 6 weeks post-op. I take it first thing in the morning, and I wait 1 solid hour before eating anything. I would definitely talk to your surgeon about getting on a PPI. If your surgeon can't prescribe one for you, Prevacid and Prilosec are both available over the counter. I have one more 90 day refill on my Prilosec, and keep saying I'm going to wean myself off, but I'm doing so great, I don't want to throw my body out of whack. -
Thanks for this. I'm really working on trying to listen to my body and interpret signals correctly. Everything got so scrambled over the years that it's hard for me to know when/if I'm truly hungry. Newly-banded and hunger has not returned yet so I am just taking baby steps. Guess this is what learning the band is all about -- learning when food is required and responding appropriately. I want to enjoy my food and then stop. The band is allowing me to do that, even if it is just applesauce and yogurt right now.

3 Days post Gastric Sleeve Surgery And Clear Sailing!
Crawford replied to Crawford's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
1st couple days they suggested protein shakes.. clear liquids and vegetable & chicken broth.. sugar free popsicles.. watre other clear liquids.. low fat yogurt.. skim milk.. soft foods after the 2nd week.. -
It's easy to make soups. Use unflavored or chicken flavored protein powder, combine with water or broth, and add soft cooked vegetables or lean meats. You can add even more protein with fat free greek yogurt. Spices to taste. The 14 day pre-op diet is to shrink your liver so it isn't in the surgeon's way. So the no fat, no sugar, and no alcohol part is very important.

Between my multi, calcium supplement (1 tablet three times/day), and my Greek yogurt, I'm getting at least 1000mg. But with all the milk, cottage cheese, broccoli, kale, and cheese I eat, it's probably closer to 1200-1500mg most days.

How few calories are you taking in post-op?
dianegoe replied to With His help's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You guys are so LUCKY!!! I would die for pudding or cream soups. I feel like my surgeon (who does not have an ounce of fat on him) must want to punish us for being fat. I think he's so stict because he primarily does gastic sleeve and RNY proceedures. He treats everyone the same. So his lapband people have no food because his sleeve patients have no food. I can't wait for something like yogurt or applesauce, or creamy soup anything that is not a liquid protein yucky drink. Have a nice Sunday. Diane -

Pureed lentils are fine! They are good pureed with a little Greek yogurt and spices.

My doc said to advance to stage 2 diet upon discharge from the hospital. This includes a pre determined amount of the following... yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, cream of wheat, jello, soup, SF pudding for one meal and 60 - 80 oz protein via shake broken into meals or however we can get it in us...sipping all day, whatever.....it trips me out that some people are still on clear liquids for weeks.

This is kind of funny because after I swim (1 hour) I am starving! My mother who also swims actually feels less like eating. Shrug. So I always plan to eat afterwards. Not sure if others will disagree (only have had one fill so no restriction) but before I eat I have a drink of water. I then eat my meal. Since I don't have restriction I usually feel like I could eat more (my doctor says 3 oz protein, 1/4 veggie, 1/4 startch). You might want to have a go to snack that after you've eaten and then waited 10 minutes that you can have if you are still ravenously hungry. Here are some thoughts grilled chicken, cheese stick, veggie, fruit. I live alone so I have the option of just not buying foods that I should'nt be eating. A greek yogurt with fruit would also only be about 160 calories which would be better than the cookies. Also how about sugar free pops?

:rolleyes:I'm here. I couldn't get in to my own journal this weekend. I could read everyone elses but my own. ODD. So, it's day 17 and I am down 16 pounds. I can handle a pound a day. I know this wont keep up as I have been starting to incorporate real foods back in to my otherwise semi-squishy foods. Today I had 2 scrambled eggs, 1 chunk of mozzarella cheese, a protein shake, applesauce, yogurt, and 1.5 stuffed shells. After eating the stuffed shells, I went to the gracery store and didnt feel so great. I came home and made some shepards pie for my lunch or dinner tomorrow (we'll see how I feel at lunch). When I eat "real" food, I get light-headed and gross feeling for about 2 hours after. I was feeling crappy but now I feel fine. Thats just another thing to ask the doc about. I am on the "early" shift at work for the next 2 weeks. I hate the 7am but love the 4pm. Today was quiet since the giraffe wasnt there and pretty much all of the insurance co's that I must deal with were closed. I got a lot done. There was minimal drama today. Usually Mondays are drama-filled since the weekend has occured. I am off to shower and play with my doggie... then nighty-nites.

Bandsters in Their 20's
mrsparker621 replied to Mia26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I am 22. I had my surgery Wednesday 8/12. When I came out of sugary I was in a lot of pain but they quickly gave me meds and I felt OK that day and the next day at the hospital. I went home the following day and slept mostly, I was pretty uncomfortable for Friday and Saturday. Sunday I had the runs all day, I couldn’t keep anything in me!!! I felt hot and dehydrated. And Sunday afternoon I started getting weird twitching in my jaw – like it was locking up. It was the most uncomfortable weirdest thing – finally it subsided but then came back like an hour later about 100x worse – so my husband took me to the er and they knew right away it was from my anti-nausea meds! They gave me Benadryl and it went away in a couple minutes – but what a scare!!!!!!! So today is Monday and I am feeling better, my husband is back to work today so I am on my own. I actually feel pretty good today – I have been regretting my decision for surgery this week – but I know its gets better!. I already lost 25 Pre Op and since Wednesday another 13lbs! So that’s at least good news. I am just looking forward to having more strength and being able to get out of the house and back to work and my normal routine, I’m hopping that will come with the next stage of foods where I can have creamy soups and yogurt – I am only on clear liquids and protein drinks right now…. Cant wait for a few more weeks to go by and see how I’m feeling… -

Sleeved 11/7, Question?

I lived on yogurt and scrambled eggs. Also, canned tuna crumbled very fine with mayo. There was no way I could stomach pureed meat. Bleck! -
Help me clairfy something on my pre-op diet
jmegirl replied to Hacker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Each of those items listed is considered one serving, and it's saying you can have 3 servings or less per day... So essentially, you can have 1c of skim milk and 2 8oz yogurts today. Tomorrow you could have 2c of skim milk and 1/2c of cottage cheese. Does that make sense? -
Help me clairfy something on my pre-op diet
jmegirl replied to Hacker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, good thinking! Cottage cheese has much more Protein than yogurt does, so it helps you stay full for longer. It seems a bit thicker too, so that helps keep you full also. Good luck on your journey! -
i can eat anything, but my hubby is diabetic and does most of the cooking so 99% of whats in our house is diabetic friendly, and he doesnt care for sweets like i do. so......almost anything from a diabetic cookbook is healthy, they have recipies for pizza, tacos, hamburgers , also side dishes, breads and desserts. we make a diabetic friendly thick spagetti meat sauce and use it over whole wheat pasta or by itself. yummy ! we eat lots of baked fish, brown rice and salads too. also try the book called "Fix it and forget it diabetic cookbook" for the crockpot or the others in the series . great recipies ! try frozen yogurt or weight watchers ice cream for the sweet tooth . good luck !

It is funny that you mention banana as making you sick. I was given strawberry banana jello in the hospital as well as strawberry banana yogurt. All i could taste was a sickening sweet banana taste. Disgusting... I have heard taste can change dramatically

I usually start off in the morning with the low-fat yogurt eaten ver slowly -- seems to do well. Then mid-morning have a little oatmeal. Often I will just have cottage cheese and some fruit for lunch, a protein bar mid afternoon and then fish or very tender chicken and veges for dinner -- I really like the Jack in the Box teriyaki chicken bowl -- but don't eat the rice. Very small portions chewed very carefully -- I find I have to stick to softer foods as well. I can eat the fish part of the sushi but too much rice will get stuck. It's a learning experience for sure.
