    Fill Nightmare!

I also agree with the previous poster that stated that your fills seem huge. I have a 10 cc band and my doctor will only give me fills of 0.25 cc's at a time and I have a very hard time getting used to those, so I cannot imagine getting 2cc fills at a time. I would just ask your doc to start giving you much, much smaller fills the next couple times and maybe that will help, good luck!
  2. And... How much restriction? I'm a little concerned that either I have no restriction or I'm just not feeling when I'm done. I'm on full liquids but am doing some purred. I.e. I mixed some refried beans with sour cream and taco sauce and was able to eat 1/2 cup. This morning I was also able to do 1/2 cup cottage cheese. I went relatively slow but not much different than I ate before. I really had no problems at all eating it. I feel "full" but no discomfort. No issues at all getting liquids down. I just seem to be able to get anything I have tried in. No reflux, no pain, no indigestion, no burping, or anything like others have described. Seems so much easier than the lapband... I could barely get anything down with that dreaded thing.
  3. My operation is coming very soon 10/07/2017 ,I am looking forward but at the back of my head I am worry and sacred as hell, does very one have the same problem or is it only me..? Sent from my SM-G950F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Wth?

Are you keeping an actual food journal to log the breakdown of your calories/fats/carbs/protein? Sounds like you are getting in an OK amount of Protein, but might need more. At 6 weeks you should be aiming to get 80-90g at a minimum. And it's good if you can get half of that in before mid-day, rather than lumping it all in the afternoon. If you can, mix up what you're eating rather than eating the same thing more than twice a day. Are you logging your fluids as well, 64oz or more per day? How much are you exercising? It might be time to bump it up a little, like 10% more. More than likely it's just a stall. The human body is not a perfectly tuned machine and can have it's quirks. Be patient, I'm sure it will break soon!!

    01 29 10 229 lbs!

    From the album: Throughout Weightloss

  6. Hi all, so I am exactly one month out today and am down 21 lbs., which is what I was down on 1/10/13 at my follow-up with my surgeon...soooo apparently I hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I did take my measurements and have lost 8.5", all from my waist up! It needs to switch to below the belt next month.....keeping my fingers crossed. lol
  7. Gosh, it's only been like 4 business days ( I'm sure the Decision makers don't work weekend) and I want to know now! Lol My surgeon said 5-10 days, but I've read here it's much sooner. Yaaaaa! I'm going bananas lol

    Hernia?

Same here! I'm 10 days post op, and I slipped on something in my kitchen yesterday, and now I have this seriously painful stabbing very close to my incision on my right side. Like if I go to stand up from a seated position! Sorry, I'm not sure what it is though. I'm hoping it goes away. I used a hot pack and it didn't help. ☹️
  9. Hello everyone... I was sleeved on 10/31/16 so I'm 6 days out and I am experiencing these wincing pains in both sides of my torso if I take a slightly deep breath. This has been happening ever since surgery. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if so what can be done about it. I do have COPD so I am wondering if it has anything to do with my lungs. Aside from this issue, I feel great. No other pain at all. Sent from my VS986 using the BariatricPal App

New to the forum and band

have you tried distracting yourself? Instead of focusing on the meal, do things "between bites"... at work, I keep working, at home I find something as my primary activity (ironing, cleaning, playing a game) and take bites when my hands stop being busy... I can keep to about 10 minutes between bites like this :crying: As for chewing slow, just practice

    Exhausted!

I had surgery just 3 days after you on 8/20/10 and I have had several days in a row now where I feel the same as you. I am getting a solid 8-9 hours a night yet all I want to do is sleep.Yesterday and today I have forced myself not to take any naps, and forced myself to do housework and run some errands. It is like pushing a truck uphill to even get up the oomphf to cook my family some dinner. I am no where near the same calorie intake as you though so part of my desire for nothing but sleep might be the low calorie part. I am also at the "dreaded stall" as well. I think my body is finally catching up to what I did to it 3 weeks ago and is rebelling. It will work itself out eventually, I just want it to be sooner rather than later.

    Poof! It's gone!!

I was banded on April 18th with a VG band in Mexico. My starting weight was 227.5 lbs. My doc put the VG band in because I carry the majority of my weight in my abdomen and as a result, my internal organs are packed in fat. I got a 2.8cc fill on June 12th in Mexico. No restriction noted. I got my 2nd fill July 10th in Texas and the doc said he could only pull back 0.5cc. He gave me a 2.5cc fill under fluro. When I asked my doc in Mexico what could have happened to my first fill I was told it had dissipated possibly due to air being in my band. The first 4 days after the second fill I had restriction and now I'm back to eating whatever I want and I'm trying to follow the "rules". I was so worried, I e-mailed my doc in Mexico asking if my band could possibly be leaking! I was reassured it most likely was not... but I don't understand this. My sister who was banded at the same time with a 10 cc band has almost too much restriction after her 1st fill. I mean, the girl can eat 4 tater tots and she's stuffed like she ate a Thanksgiving dinner! I'm discouaraged with my weight yo-yoing so much. I am so anxious to see these pounds drop! I'd lost down to 204lbs at one point after the liquid phase of the post-op diet, went up to 215lbs (which was my pre-surgery weight) ... down to 207lbs and now I'm back up to 211lbs. I don't know what else to do other than schedule another fill. What recommendations do you all have?
  13. Hi everyone! It's been quiet here lately! I just wanted to stop in and see how everyone is doing. It's been about 8 months now!!! I was thinking about Labor Day and my upcoming family reunion. I would really like to drop 10 lbs this month. I've been averaging 8 lbs a month but I want more!! Anyone want to join me? My plan: Eat 1200 calories a day and exercise 5X a week for 4 weeks. I have never really stuck to this plan, but now I'm setting a goal! Wish me luck...
  14. You can do it! You've lasted 30 pounds, make it to 40 pounds, then 50. Do it in 10 pound increments that way you make you goal frequently. That made me feel great and successfull. :sad0: Best of luck, Carrie

    Emotional Eating Concerns

Hi, Yes I'm worried about it but will have to learn to channel it elsewhere, it does make me nervous! I was a casual smoker so stopping that and wine is hard, I'm doing a pre pre op diet which has made me kinda grumpy but I'm thinking if I can't get through this ill be just fine, I have surgery 10/09. Good luck!!!!
  16. I was sleeved 10/29 @ 3:00pm. Let me say two weeks prior to surgery I was placed on protein drinks for two weeks. Let me also say I have done everything by the book. My pre op weight 351 surgery date weighed 347 (I know not much lost). Surgery went extremely well, removed a herna, stayed in hospital two days, could have gone the day after, I figured I would stay one more night no problem. My doc requires you to stay on protein drink 2 1/2 weeks after surgery. No big deal not hungry anyway, no pain, peeing not frequent but i know my kidney is working no pain meds, sip sip sip I go, walking and drinking 64oz of water ( last three days) feeling good. I began to notice swelling around ankles and thighes when i go to bed they go down. Well today 11/7 is my first post op doc appt I get on scale "GAINED 13lbs". OK I say to self how could u gain 13 lbs without eating, even before surgery I did not accomplish that and I was eating food. So my doc is saying how great I look etc etc. Then he said how much did u loose? I said NONE I GAIN. Then I said are u sure you did the procedure?? He said yes. He said that I had a lot of fluids during surgery and I keep drinking. So he gave me 10 days of water pills, he also made me get a blood test to check my kidney. I see him again on 11/30. I had tell this story I had not heard it before. I don't weight myself so I had no idea how much I gain, my ankles swelling would happen sometime prior to surgery (not enough to call it normal) . So I was not upset about the weight, because I followed the rules. I know my kidneys are fine and the water pills will remove the excess water. I said thank you God if I had to have a complication, i am glad it was this. Just wanted to share, I feel great and all will be well to b continued. Stay tune for 11/30 update. Give your thoughts.

    Can't quite figure this out.

Our bodies and these bands are unusual things, let me tell you! I have been working out like a fiend since January, and monitoring my diet closely (still eat no-no's every once in a while). But I mean like HEAVY workouts! 40mins of extreme cardio, then I do 15-20 mins on the rowing machine, then weights, abs, then swim laps for 20-25mins. I do this religiously 4X a week and have since Jan. 1st. The scale has gone up and down 4lbs both ways, but as of today, I am EXACTLY the same weight as I was January first. For those that plateau for a week or two, consider my sad situation..lol. I STILL keep doing just what I've been doing because I know my body will eventually "figure it out." I have not lost significant inches either and have kept track of that since day 1. What I did lose is MAJOR body fat My BMI has gone down by over 4pts since January first! My clothes fit looser (which I don't understand since no significant inches lost) and I feel STRONG and my body is noticeably more muscular. However, that DAM scale messes with my head daily!! Bottom line is, this process and our bodies act and react in unusual ways...just keep doing what you're suppose to, and eventually (I say this at 10 weeks waiting) it will give us the visual results we SO desire!! Congrats on your weight loss!!
  18. For those who haven't been following my story............... I was diagnosed with an eroded band in November of 2011 and had it removed in March of 2012. I had to wait for six months before revising to the gastric sleeve as my surgeon wanted to wait for me to heal completely and do medical tests before confirming that I would be a good candidate for the sleeve. I have complete those tests and he was satisfied that I could have the sleeve. We also found that I had developed another hiatal hernia (the first one was repaired when I had my lap band surgery). My predetermination request for the sleeve surgery was denied. They stated that I needed to complete a six month weight loss program in order for them to consider my request. I asked my surgeon's insurance coordinator to appeal based on the reasoning that this was a repeat surgery for a lap band that had medically failed me and that I shouldn't have to complete the six month medically supervised weight loss program. She filed an appeal but no where in the letter did it address the six month weight loss program so of course they denied me again stating that we still hadn't submitted the records they had requested. Frustrated beyond belief, I took the initiative to write my own appeal letter. I used language from the BCBS-AL bariatric policy regarding repeat surgeries and their rationale for requiring the six month weight loss program and explained how I had met that rationale just by having a lap band for four years and that my waiting for six months before revising to another surgery was not conducive to improving my health. I just got off the phone with BCBS-AL and they have approved my surgery!!!!!! I am actually shocked that I succeeded in my appeal. I fully expected them to deny me and had already started the medically supervised six month weight loss program in preparation for that denial (and have lost 10 lbs over a six week period which is nice). I'm excited, relieved and nervous! I've been through this before so I don't know why but I am. I was very successful with my lap band (losing 94 lbs). I remember how wonderful it felt to be thin and feel good about myself and how I looked and not to be in pain anymore from carrying around all this extra weight (yes I packed the pounds back on after my band was removed). I can't wait to be there again! Yeah me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I've lost at pretty much the same rate since banding, though it's slowing down considerably now that I reach goal. It was very difficult, but I ate as if I had restriction even when I didn't. I know that doesn't work for everyone. It took me three fills to begin to feel restriction. After that, things got way easier. They have gotten progressively easier since. Well, except for the natural slowdown that has occurred as I've gotten nearer to goal. I have consistently eaten 2-5 oz. lean Protein and 1/2-1 cup nonstarchy veggies for my meals. I use 1-2 protein supplements/day. I journal on Fitday, and aim for 800-900 calories, 80-100 g protein, and <50 g net carb/day (primarily from veggie and legume sources.) I do not eat sugar, or use caffeine any more (important for appetite control, for me). I make sure I get adequate heart-healthy fat (supplementing with omega-3s). I take a good bariatric Multivitamin (and supplemented with zinc and Biotin during the hair loss phase), and take Co Q-10 daily, too. I exercise daily, at least once. For me, each of these components is important. It doesn't mean I don't occasionally indulge, but 99% of the time, I achieve what I set out to do. It's worth it, weight-wise. But mostly, I just FEEL a bazillion times better. Your mileage may vary--not everyone needs to follow the same regimen for success. This is just what works for me.
  20. Once again, Star is right on the money!! You will always have a tool to help you control your portions, but what makes up those portions is up to you. My weakness is cheetos, so I control that urge by allowing myself a single-serving bag of them once a month. That's what works for me. Other than that, I don't keep them in the house. For me, the first six months were rocket-like as far as weight loss. I dropped weight like crazy. At about 7 months out, I hit a plateau, which was a weight that I stayed at for nearly 10 years on my way up the scale. My weight loss, in pounds, slowed way down. BUT, once the weight loss slowed down, I started shape-shifting. I can almost watch my body change from week to week, and my measurements and clothes sizes reinforce that. I started in a 24/26 and I'm now in a 14/16. I'd be in a smaller size pants, but I have a bit of a tummy still. One thing that really affects how fast I lose pounds is that I got really serious about exercise. I have muscle and definition in places I didn't know I could have muscle and definition before. I had a body fat analysis at my doctor's office recently and it shows that I am within .01% of the amount of muscle I should have in my body for my height, even though my BMI is still in the obese category. That means that I am converting fat to muscle with exercise and that I've managed to protect my heart muscle from significant damage from rapid weight loss. That was a major worry of mine. My pulmonologist is also thrilled with my improved cardio fitness. The sleeve is a tool, but if you work it right, you'll be able to reach goal and to reach goal in a healthy manner. After all, it's not just about the pounds; it's also about enjoying your life and all of the newfound abilities that come with weight loss. If you're not sure what I'm referring to, please visit the "powder Room" and "Man Room" forums here on VST! Good luck on your journey!!
  21. So my surgery is scheduled for 12/29 and I'm feeling all the feelings: excited, nervous, concerned etc. But the worst thing is that because of Covid-19 my hospital is reviewing and cancelling/ rescheduling elective surgeries on pretty much a daily basis so that I won't know if I'm actually going to have surgery until xmas. I have 3 more days until my pre-op liquid diet and I'm not looking forward to the possibility that I'll have to stay on that without the surgery well into January if I get bumped. I'm also scared that I might get Covid while I'm there. This is so ridiculously stressful! I should be excited that I'm getting what I worked so hard for. Just gotta keep my fingers crossed I guess. =(
