I was banded on April Fools Day this year. It took me about 4 fills (had one last week) to get to where there was any restriction felt. I have a large band that holds 14 cc's and I now have 7 cc's. I started with 2cc's and got fills in 1cc increments. I have not been dropping weight very fast, but I think this last fill is enough to do it. Just be honest with your doc and they will increase your fill as needed. It's a process. You have to be patient

how has your diet changed since surgery?
JennsinCA replied to pinkbunies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery isn't until Nov. 19th but I was diagnosed with celiacs disease in December of 2013. Celiac means you are allergic to wheat, malt, barley, and rye. What it really means is no bread, no pasta, no pizza, no fast food, and no eating at restaurants even if they say "gluten free" because chances are I will get sick anyways. I have already had to give up all the good stuff so I'm really hoping I this disease will help me be extra successful with my sleeve. @@finediva I miss bread too I mean I really miss bread 9 more days until surgery and I am soooo excited! -
How do you know when your stuck?
NanaPat replied to NanaPat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok this is what I'm feeling, so I DO NOT wash it down! Ok I will try this next time, I think I may not be taking small bites, or I'm eating to fast -
How fast did you go through sizes?
Wallflower7522 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How fast did you go through sizes after your surgery? I tended to wear most of my clothes pretty fitted already but so far everything still fits exactly the same even though I'm down almost 30lbs. (I know like half of that was Water weight) I kind of carry my weight weird, so I think that probably has something to do it with but I was just curious what everyone else's experiences were. -
Like you i've only pb'd twice since my surgery. Both were from chicken and not taking the time to chew it properly. When I get full I get that really uncomfortable feeling you're talking about. I also get that if I eat too fast.

5:2 and fitness, staggering your routine to match your intake?
Globetrotter posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey everybody, So as I mentioned in another thread, I am doing the ADF, Alternate Day Fasting version of 5:2, it just works better for me psychologically, don't know if there will be any advantage loss-wise. Does anyone have opinions/advice on whether I should stagger my workouts to match my caloric intake? Like, should I save intense cardio for feed days, or do high intensity cardio on fast days on purpose, or does it even matter? -
Re-introducing myself.
illuminationlady replied to Bec's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome back Bec and welcome Brooke! Congrats on trying to have a little one! I have 3 girls who are nearly grown. They grow up way too fast. Enjoy this time with DH. Soon you'll be preg. I know of another bandster with a similar story and she did get preg after losing the weight. Best wishes to both of you! -
Bored With Liquid Diet Choices!!!
Motivated1 replied to marciebeth07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Equate generic form Oscar slim fast is really good. The only thing about it is it only offers 10g of protein and it's packed with 170 calories. Im 5 days post op and I'll usually drink half a can then drink some water or g2o and a small spoon of peanut butter for more protein and drink the rest later and if I want anything in between and yosicle sugar free popsicles are AMAZING -
You will not get instant results and I learned that early on. Then I realized slow is the best way because any other nurse I worked with that had gastric bypass and NOT lap band lost fast and has gained it all back. So relax and it will happen. Remind yourself of your rules...eat slower 30 min, small bites chew well...this a life change not weight loss sprint. By the way I was banded 4/2012 and as of today I have lost 51 lbs so for 4months out you are doing well. The numbers going down is always good!!

Friday Morning Weigh Ins! - 15th August 08
lellow replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh wow looks like those of us who were banded around the 1st are slowing down a little, but that's okay! We have many fills to get through before finding the 'sweet spot' and it looks like after losing quite a lot of weight fast in those first few weeks, that our bodies are acclimatising in this third week onwards. I started on solids today too and had a tiny piece of grilled fish and three scallops for lunch - YUMMO! AND it filled me right up so I didn't even have dinner! WTG Ro and liquidbluegal on great weight loss! You two are blazing through it! -
I was banded Dec 28,2012 and have only lost 40 lbs. Last month I only lost 4 lbs when before it was going so fast. I hate to ever tell my business but I suffer from bipolar disorder and the meds were what caused my weight gain of 75 lbs in 5 yrs. I don't need a fill,I am already super cautious because I seem to get"stuck" pretty easily. Is the hunger just in my head? I used to not get hungry for hours and now I find myself grazing. Not gaining weight, just not losing as much. Any advice?

I had one a couple of years ago unrelated to WLS. They actually stopped the treadmill test after a short time as my heart rate went up too fast. Ended up having a Lexiscan about a week later as a subsitute where they take pics (MRI-like) then inject you with something that replicates walking on a treadmill (speeds up your heart) and then take more pics. Hope you can just do the treadmill test!

It's Finally Here! Tomorrow I Get My Sleeve

How exciting! Sending you fast healing prayers -
:rolleyes2:My surgery for lapband was on April 5, 2010. Since the surgery I have battled intermittent constipation and six weeks out developed very dry and peeling lips. I do drink my Water, my problem is at work I'm not sure how much I am drinking, I could measure better when I was off work, at home. I'd read on another post where taking fish oil capsules would help the dryness and taking a stool softener for the constipation. Anyone have any other ideas?????

Day 4 post op, couple simple questions
MrsKarenC2008 replied to Angry Banana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@rking I take pills regularly for arthritis pain ... first 6 weeks I had to crush them ... I would mix with a tiny bit of Water and drink it fast ... tasted like crap ... but then after the 6 week mark .. doc cleared me to take them whole ... which freaked me out ... so now I break in half and take half at a time ... seems not to upset any of the delicate workings in there! I just had to make sure before surgery that the pain doc could give me something crushable ... which was no trouble at all ... Good luck to you!! -
If I have my Protein shake in my coffee I sip until noon and then I'm good. If I drink it fast it makes me feel overly full and miserable LapBand ~ November 1, 2016

linda thats very normal...slow way down and take VERY small bites (size of pinky fingernail). i still have to push away while everyone else is eating if i eat too fast. you will get used to the signals in time. Try using a babyspoon to eat with, it forces you to take very small bites. in time you dont even think about it anymore you just do it automaticly. also...try ground turkey. i love it. I still cant do chicken real well but find i dont miss it so much really.

Last night was my first taste of red meat since being banded 6 weeks ago. :hungry:It was heaven to be able to chew, even if I had to chew to mush. I have to say, they weren't kidding about red meat sticking with you!!!! I got full so fast, I couldn't even finish what I put on my plate. I had three small slices of roast beef with a tablespoon of gravey so it wasn't dry. I was full when I went to bed and was STILL FULL this morning when I got up. I couldn't even eat breakfast!! I didn't get hungry until lunch today. So solid food DOES stick with you longer. Now I understand about controlling hunger. May sound stupid to some of you, but it was a revelation for me. I think I can do this!!

So I just wanna know that it's normal to just have a bad day with the sleeve. I don't mean feeling wise but I mean rules wise. Today, I got busy and didn't plan and looked up and it was 3pm and all I had for the day was 5oz Greek yogurt and 12oz of water that morning. Then I actually got hungry which hasn't happened since my surgery 8 days ago. So as soon as I got home I ate cream of chicken soup with some milk mixed in. I ate it way too fast and too much (like the old days). Now I'm here and in pain(stuffed), knowing full and well I didn't follow the rules and I'm mad and frustrated. I'm upset I didn't take the time to plan better, I question my choice to have this done. What if I seriously hurt myself the next time I don't plan. I'm frustrated that I can't just gulp down water to catch back up. I know that I choose this I just need to know having bad days (aka "learning days") are normal. So when was your first bad day??

I think I'd try it in my own home sometime before that day/night to see how it was tolerated before doing so in public! Although that isn't a guarantee either especially if you forget to pay attention at the party and eat too fast or too big a bite. You'll also have at least one maybe 2 fills by then and from what I understand, it also depends on how "tight" you are. Sounds good though, that's what I'm craving right now and I'm on full liquids/very soft foods! A friend suggested pureeing it but uh, no thanks! Ewwwww!! I'll wait til October when I'm off any eating restrictions! LOL!

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a little feedback or simular experience from anyone who wants to share. Here's my story: For about the last 6 weeks I've been having reflux problems at night. I feel acid in my throat and have a sore throat in the morning. I tried taking Zantac 150mg but it didn't help. Then I tried Prilosec which helped a little bit. I also elevated the head of my bed and stopped eating after 6pm. I also cut out acidic foods. Since none of this seemed to get rid of it completely, I called my fill doctors office. He was on vacation so his nurse told me to go to my primary doctor and ask to have an upper gi/barium swallow done. I just got the results of the upper gi and the impression by the radiologist reads: "old duodenal ulcer or duodenal inflammation.". The primary doctor told me to go back to see the fill doctor (his office is closed until monday) because she didn't know what to do from here. In the mean time she gave me Nexium to take and I'm doing MUCH better since taking it. I don't have any acid in my throat and my sore throat has gone away. I didn't have much faith in the radiologist who did the upper gi because he had never seen a lapband before. He asked me lots of questions about it including "when are you going to have it removed". He didn't understand that I couldn't drink the barium really fast because I had to wait a minute in between swallows for it to go down (it was morning and I try to be extra careful in the morning because I'm a little tighter then in the afternoon) It made me nervous! I have to call the fill doctor on Monday to see if he'll see me. I posted a message on Dr. Kuri's website to see what others thought and I got an immediate email from JoAnn (patient facilitator) telling me to call Dr. Kuri right away! And Sandy,RN told me to get an unfill right away to prevent reflux damage of the esophagus. She thinks I've waited too long already but as soon as I realized the reflux wasn't a temporary thing, I made appointments (it just took a long time to get an appointment with the primary doctor and then I had to wait to have the upper gi done and then another week to get the results) Oh, I hope my band has not eroded or something terrible. I'm doing so well with my weight loss (it's been slow but steady). I hate to think of loosing my band and gaining it all back. :-( Anyone else have a simular experience?
