    African American Sleevers

Every thread I have read talks about the dreaded 3 week stall. It is the first of many. Your body is in major adjustment phase, trying to hold on thinking it's in starvation mode. Keep working the sleeve and you will see results. Don't stress because that's no good either. Never before had your body lost at this rate so be gentle and understanding with what it does. You will be a big loser! Lol

    Need Motivation and Advice

My numbers consistently dropped up until 6 months. After that its been slow going. I also had a 3 week stall at week 3 & at 3 months for over a month! Don't be discouraged into making bad choices. Clean up your menu & up the exercise, you will see some movement!
  5. Finally broke that darn 3 week stall And got a NSV: I'm in size 8 jeans and got in a size S dress!
  6. I went through the typical phase immediately after surgery where it was hard to want to eat or drink anything because it all tasted bad, and then it passed. Since then, I've felt pretty normal with food. However, in the last week, everything has started tasting strange to me again. Food tastes bland, or abhorrent. There's no in between. Even my beloved Crystal Light which has seriously helped me maintain my water intake suddenly just tastes bad. I don't recall ever reading any posts about food taste issues coming back. I'm still eating, and I'm trying mightily to choke the water down. Just wondering, has anyone else experienced this, and does it go away again? It's interesting, it seems to coincide with my weight finally beginning to drop again after a monstrous 3+ week stall. I've been back to dropping about a pound a day, after levitating between the same three pounds for those three weeks.

    Any March Sleevers?

Me to please. Thought I was added but not coming up. Thank you sunette.odendal@gmail.com I am at that dreadful 3 week stall. Picked up in stead of losing. Hope it will start coming off soon. Have a nice day;)
  8. So glad I found this thread. I was sleeved 3/18 n my first post-op appt was last week n I had lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks. I was elated. Today I didnt have an appt but had to stop by my drs office to pick up a paper n decided to weigh myself. Only lost 3lbs since last week. I know thats good but I feel it should be more. Now reading thru this thread I see alot of ppl hit a 3 week stall. This is y I refuse to buy a scale. Lol I was also wondering about daily calorie intake. I average 400-600 calories daily. Waiting on my NUT to advise me on this. I also track my Protein n I'm getting my 60 grams of protein in. I try to eat high protein foods such as eggs, cottage cheese n Beans.

    Post op march sleevers

Me too. The 3 week stall is driving me bats!!t. Hoping to get the scale moving again any day. Other than that I feel pretty good. Have been tired since the very 1st day but is gets slightly better all the time. I may feel like my normal self very soon. I am tolerating most anything I've tried to eat and the restriction is great. Maybe even more restriction than I had planned on.

What are good total fat, carb numbers?

There's a link in my sig about the 3 week stall, it explains the what and why of it all. My goal was always 1 gram of protein for every 10 calories, so that put me at 40% of my daily calories from protein. I split the rest of my calories pretty evenly betwen carbs and fats but didn't worry about either, as long as I didn't eat any starches (cause they are evil). Now I eat much higher fats, maybe 50-55% of calories...mostly healthy fats. There is nothing inherently wrong with eating fats, and at the low calorie limits most sleevers are eating you're not likely to take in very many anyhow.
  11. It's amazing that it seems like just about everyone has a 3 week stall. Mine lasted about a week. I tried getting more fluids but I am not sure it matters. I think it's your body chemistry adjusting after the surgery...just my thoughts. I started losing again in the 4th week. Don't worry too much about it!
  12. Welcome to your 3 week stall. It happens to many many people. It's not at all about what you're eating, it's about your body adjusting and catching up. It sounds like you are doing AWESOME with what you are eating/drinking and with your tracking! Tracking is a great tool, especially when starting out. As far as nutrition, I don't worry too much about my fat, because I know it's healthy fat (Olive oil, avocado, almonds etc.). I try to keep carbs less than Protein now that I am this far out (8 months), but if I want a glass of OJ or a banana in my smoothie, I have it. I won't deprive myself of the things I want, HOWEVER, protein always comes first to me and I pay attention to my total calories.

    Making up a goal

I'd like to set a weightloss goal weight for June 1st, but how does one go about setting a realistic but not too easy/obvious goal? I was sleeved march second. Sw 224 CW 198 Gw 173? That's 25 lbs down in the next 8 weeks. Think that's too much for me? Watch me hit my 3 week stall right now and throw me all off. Lol
  14. ^^ you were sleeved in march and are on a 3 week stall? The best thing anyone in a stall can do is go back to logging what you eat, drink and what kind/duration of exercise you are getting. Applying discipline is going to be crucial to getting past stalls. 3 weeks is a long stall, motivate yourself. Cut salt, up protien a s work out!! Not just cardio, wieght train as allowed.
  15. Everything already stated above is true. I didn't realize how much I relied on food. I knew I ate too much and I knew that I had an emotional attachment to food. It was where I ran for comfort.. After surgery it came to my attention that food had more control over my life than I realized. I'm only a little more than 3 weeks post op. It has been very hard to change my relationship with food and I've only just begun. The 1st 2 weeks were the worst. I had to give myself a good talking to and make myself accept that my affair with food is over. Permanently. That being said, I don't regret getting the sleeve for one minute. I'm having the dreaded 3 week stall right now. It's just ridiculous. But I know the scale will move again soon and I know that my new eating habits are in my best interest. If you do your homework and prepare yourself for the huge changes you are about to make, the sleeve is great. Just make sure your ready because there is no going back.

    Stalled ????

Proudgrammy said it best - ride the wave. ( good one ). I'm riding the 3 week stall wave too. It's a major bummer. How can one not lose weight while eating between 400-800 calories a day?? I dunno but the weight is bound to come off eventually. Hang in there! I'll be hanging in with you.

    Post op march sleevers

Sleeved March 19 SW 236 pre op diet Operation day was 228 CW 218.5 Total WL = 17.5 lbs Today I went back to work and my pants fit.... not the standard hold your breath and hope for no splits. I mean they actually fit lol. I can't wait to drop a size but since I've been on the dreaded 3 week stall I haven't lost since Wed. I might be a slow loser too. But ill take it. A loser is a loser which makes me feel like a WINNER! woohoo!
  18. I hit that 3 week stalled I've heard about. Any suggestions???
  19. Yes, the 3 week stall seems have more posts than any other subject so I was not surprised at all. It's just good to know that it will pass and the journey will continue with or without the scale's approval. That is a beautiful thing!

    RNY vs SLEEVE Wt loss...

Sorry you are dealing with this. I'm interested to know where you got this statistic because I had not heard that. My doc's office lumps the RNY patients in with the sleeve patients for statistical purposes. Based on that, it looks like I'm losing slow, but I don't so (even though I'm in the midst of a 3 week stall!). We still absorb every calorie we eat, so really, we can't expect our bodies to behave magically different than they did before the sleeve. We all know it's only a restrictive tool, but I keep thinking that the laws of nature will win and we will lose weight (slowly for some of us) as long as we continuously maintain a lower calorie intake. So, I'm wondering, is that considered a failure? Is less of a restriction a failure? Is continued hunger the failure? I'm not sure, but would love to know. I have much less restrriction than some people here report, but I still have a LOT less capacity than before. I could easily "eat around" my sleeve right now, if I chose to, but I think that woule make me the failure, not the surgery. I would love to see studies about what constitutes failure, and the causes. I'm sure you have tried all the things we all must do to lose the weight, so I'm not going to give you advice about things you already know. Again, what you are describing is my worst feat, and I'm so sorry you are going through this. I do wish you success!

    Any March Sleevers?

Hey I found this article on slider foods and it helped me understand it better. http://5daypouchtest.com/articles/art002.html And as far as stalls, I think eventually everyone goes through one. I think the biggest thing is to try not to get too frustrated. The most common stall is the 3 week stall. I think it's because many people are transitioning to mushy or purée foods and the body needs to adjust(that's just my logic don't quote me on it).

    Watch the salt!

I'm having the dreaded 3 week stall! I hate it. It's very frustrating. Hopefully the scales will move soon. Being as we are able to eat so little you would think the sodium would no longer be an issue, but it is. Just ridiculous.
  23. My "3 week stall" actually occurred at week 5. It was 13 days long. My weight loss pattern between month 1 and month six was basically lose for 2 weeks, stall for 2 weeks, repeat. It was frustrating at first, but got used to it after a while. Let me start with a little personal history. A lot of my weight dropped month 1 and 2, with mostly walking. Month 3-5 dropped about 1/2 rate with mostly ellyptical. Month 5-7 dropped a little faster with mostly running. Now trying to improve fitness and gain back some lean muscle with cross fit, incline running and yoga as well as supplements. One suggestion to limit stalls is to eat more good carbs, lots of Protein (120+ and plenty of Water (100+ oz) during weight loss period. I did eat a lot of quality protein and drank a lot of water, but did not eat good carbs until recently and really leaned out in upper body, mostly due to hard running. There are some supplements I have learned about recently that might help preserve lean muscle such as BCAA (amino acids) and catalyst so your exercise does not eat all your lean muscle during loss.

    My story

I had a 3 week stall at 3 weeks post sleeve and then list for two weeks then another 2 week stall. I know it's a normal process of the body readjusting so keep doing what you are doing and walk walk walk drink your water and don't worry!! I hate stalls too but I have to be patient!!!

    Post op march sleevers

I think I;m having the 3 week stall too. Oh well. I guess the scale will move eventually; I did have a couple of incisions open up a little when the stitches came out. I've been nursing them for 2 weeks and they are finally healing pretty well. I'm down 21 lbs and waiting for more to fall off! Glad to hear all of you are doing well too. Is anyone still extremely tired?? I am!
