Check with your team. While there can be similarities, different surgeries can have additional vitamin needs. Bypass often has very specific vitamin needs but sleeve not as much. I only had to take a multi vitamin with my sleeve & stopped taking them at around 8 months. Surgeons have different requirements too in regard to whether you can swallow vitamins or need to get gummies/chewies or patches. Plus your blood work may show you need or don't need a specific vitamin/s as well. Vitamins are too expensive to just randomly buy them without finding out exactly what you need first. Some will make you nauseous so be warned & yes don’t take your iron with your calcium. Spread them out through out your day if yiu have trouble with them.

I had my revision to bypass in August 2022 as well. I still get the foamies/slimes occasionally. It's strange but with the VSG I had experience dumping (fast heartrate, sweating, feeling clammy, malaise...Etc. but with the RNY, I experience foamies but no dumping. The only way I can stop the foamies is first, I keep blowing my nose when I first notice it, so no more will build up, then if that doesn't stop it, I use one of those tongue cleaners and rub the back of my tongue a few times, makes me cough and all the slime comes out. I remember in the beginning they would last for hours and hours. Now it's usually till I can clear it once. Last time I had it was after eating at a restaurant, on the way home in the car. I didn't have my tongue cleaner but used a chopstick from my takeout bag and an extra plastic bag. Eww. lol -
Thanks for the information, if you don't mind can you post your milk diet. It seems to me whether it's the bypass or the sleeve everyone has a different regiment for the two weeks prior to surgery mine's just consist of two meal replacements 3 to 4 oz of a protein and two string cheeses in the host of liquids the first week and then the second week is all liquids

I was advised the pre-op diet is essential as the liver needs to be shrunk enough for the surgeon to get behind it; the pre-op diet it conducive to the liver shrinkage. I was given two possible pre-op diets to follow. One consisting of milk, water and an oxo cube in hot water or yoghurt and soup diet (it is specific yoghurt and specific soup). I can move between the diets intermittently as i choose but cannot mix them on any given day - it has to be a full day of one or the other. I am on my second day of the milk diet. Apparently, that is the most popular. I think for me, it just takes away from having to shop and choose which yoghurt, soup etc. I could also prepare a soup but it would need specific ingredients. Have to say, there is some relief in not having to think about food in that was for a while. With each of the diets, we have to take a multivitamin and mineral. I'm on day 2 of the milk diet. its not as bad as i thought it might be. I had a bit if a headache this morning but that has now significantly subsided (i do not need a painkiller). I had a good sleep apart from waking couple of times to empty my bladder! I'm not really feeling tired at this time. 13 days to go and counting until my bypass 😊

Hey guys, i had a gastric bypass yesterday. I spent most of the day sleeping, then woke up about six hours, and went for a walk around the recovery area. I was not allowed to drink anything so in order to take away the dryness of my lips I used a wet gauze. The gauze also helped to clean the inside of my mouth to remove the anesthesia remnants. I was transferred to a room about an hour later to continue my recovery. I have experienced cramping, gas, gas pains in my collarbone, but it has been manageable. Today I have spent the day walking a bit, sitting on a chair and moving around the room so I don’t lay down. I had a G.I. test done this afternoon, which is done to make sure the stomach doesn’t have leaks. I was cleared for stage one diet, which consists of 2 ounce of chicken broth, 2 ounce of tea, and 3.5 ounce of Jell-O. I managed to sip the broth, but there was some cramping so I stopped. I read somewhere that I should take 30 minutes to sip the 2ounces.. that’s all for now guys. I’m supposed to be discharged tomorrow. How is everyone doing? Would love to hear about your journey. -

I’m glad I ran into this forum. I had Gastric Bypass back in August 2022 and it’s now May 2023 and I still get the “Slimes” (or what some people call, the “Foamies”) from time to time. Sometimes more often than others. The worst is when I’m out and it happens. It literally disables me for 2 hours straight each time. It happens usually if I eat a bite too much, too fast, or the food is fairly dry (which is why the mucus is created), I think your body is trying to wet the food to get it through your system and thinks it’s stuck. The worst part for me is that I can’t stop salivating, and if even a little bit is swallowed it adds pain to my stomach and I have to force push it out (essentially with that terrible feeling of when you are vomiting) and instead, a bunch of slimey mucus and saliva come out. If I do it enough, you start to see juices from the food and little chunks from it as well. I have yet to actually vomit up straight food though. Most of the time I just have a cup on me to spit in and not even kidding you… I often fill up a medium Dunkin Donuts cup full of saliva and mucus… it’s disgusting. Either way, it’s terrible, and there’s no way to stop it once it’s started (for me at least). Every single time, after about an hour or two of this, you start to feel a little better and then this sinking feeling of relief in your stomach hits and you know something has caused it to stop. From there you feel so much better again. I’m experiencing the end of it right now as I’m typing this. It’s honestly a nightmare sometimes and I wish there was a quick solution for it. The only real solution for it is to eat very, very slow! And make sure your food is not too dry (I can eat wetter food so much faster than dry). Praying that this one day goes away completely … Good luck to everyone going through it! The good news from all this is that at my highest I was 540 pounds… after gastric sleeve, then 9 years later, gastric bypass, then within a few months gallbladder removal (due to gallstones) and finally, circumferential body lift and medial thigh lift, I’m feeling like a completely different person at 222 pounds… it’s surreal and as shitty as the slimes could be, I’d take it every day if I had to, in order to never go back…. ❤️ -
Hey Mona19234 - you have your surgery the day after me! I started my pre-op liquid diet today - its not been too bad to be honest. I had a bit of a headache earlier but that seems to have really subsided now. The excitement has helped I think because for me it marks the beginning of the road to the surgery - cant believe I'm two weeks away and counting. What surgery are you having done? I'm having a bypass.

In my early 30s (~220s lbs.), I knew I was in big trouble. Serious comorbities. Monthly ER visits. I was a thin child, a thin teenager but after a horrible thing happened to me, like many others, my weight became my shield, until it didn't... No diets, pills, injections worked. I didn't have the funds nor insurance then but as soon as it was available, I went for it. That's why I am so thankful for the opportunity to have had it. So many people could only dream of it as it is expensive, especially back then. I was in my 40s with lots of comorbities, a little over 300 lbs when I finally got the chance. I'm in my 60s now. I am healthier now than in my 20s. I have had a revision due to a slipped band, then another due to gerd but I never complained about it, as I am so gratefulful I had the chance. Because if it, I haven't been anywhere near 300 lbs nor have I had serious comorbities for 15 years. -

Little bit about me... Had the lap band in spring 2007 after hitting a high of 450... dropped down in to the 320s... stalled, had some different life issues cause some emotional issue... needless to say I bounced back up nearer to the 380s at one point. Settled in around 360 and decided to go get a revision to DS... which was Friday. Weight at surgery was right about 360. Stepped on my home scale this morning... 338.4. It's a lot in a short time. I feel like a million bucks, though. I've taken minimal painkillers other than tylenol in the last couple days. Woke up with some pain in the center of my back and couldn't really get comfortable after that... so I took one of my happy pills this morning at 8. I've done a good job staying hydrated, slightly under protein target but working on it. I've been able to move around the house (up and down stairs as well) without much issue. All the internal plumbing is working. Follow-up is tomorrow morning with the surgeon. Should I be waiting for the other shoe to drop? Am I doing *too* well to expect this will continue? Is reality going to kick my butt in the next few days? -
Hi guys - I start my pre-op diet tomorrow in preparation for my bypass on 1st June. Its really happening - I feel very excited but also a little nervous. Thank you all so much for your posts - I don't feel so alone on this journey. I'm sure the pre-op diet will be challenging but right now, I feel like a warrior and I'm going to fight hard! I'm ready to reclaim my life back - lets Gooooooo!

I've known several people who've had adjustments or revisions, and the weight always come off much slower the second time around. It'll come off again if you really work at it, but yea - it's usually a long, slow process... -

I will say it will get better. Had Bypass surgery on May 3rd and the only real problem I had was not keeping my soft foods down the last couple days. I read something that said drink something hot/warm before your eat time so I tried it today and boy it was a game changer -
Just got rescheduled from May 22 to June 7th! Not very happy but I guess it gives an opportunity to lose more weight! Hope everyone’s surgery goes smoothly! I’m getting Gastric Bypass with Hiatal Hernia surgery.

I had my surgery 10/4/2022 and my surgeon is amazing! The whole team at the office is great and very helpful. Dr. Semeret Munie was my surgeon and now I mostly see the nurse practitioner, Kelly Columbus-Kline who is amazing as well. Dr. Munie made all the right calls when it came to my care and helping me select the right surgery for me. I was approved for gastric bypass until my pre-op day the week before I was scheduled. At that appointment we chose to change my procedure to gastric sleeve because my iron levels were so low she was afraid I may become infusion dependent on iron. I'm glad she didn't go ahead with the bypass and paid attention to my bloodwork so closely! The person I've had the most contact with through classes, appointments, and support groups is the dietician, Marsha Copley. She has been SO helpful and has helped me feel less guilty about being human regarding some of the choices I've made and has definitely steered me in the right direction with her guidance. I love them all so much. I didn't see any posts about Dr. Munie on here so I wanted to write one so that people can find this information about them.- 3 replies

I know what you’ve been going through has been absolutely awful but it did lead to them finding the cancer. Thank gracious it was picked up so early & you won’t need more aggressive treatment. Have you tried using resistance bands or other less strenuous exercise? Remember exercise only contributes to about 10% of the weight you are to lose. I didn’t exercise through my weight loss & all I do now are stretches (on the floor) & a few resistance exercises. I do short bursts of 5 or so minutes about 4 times a day. My arms are nicely toned & I see a little muscle definition in my knees & thighs which is what I wanted & my back doesn’t cause me as many issues. Actually have had to drop my sit ups (the most strenuous thing I did) because I had a fairly significant retinal bleed in my ‘better’ eye & was ordered not to by my specialist. (Not completely disappointed because I really hated them. 😁) Praying the end is in sight for you & you’ll be cleared for your revision soon. -
Five-week follow-up for gastric bypass and now on lifetime food plan. No restrictions. In all that time I was fortunate to get sick only one time, week 1, on Easter. Chicken broth...go figure.

It all kicks off for me early next week when I start the pre-op diet in preparation for my bypass on 1st; I just cant wit now! We have choice of two pre-op diets and I have chosen the liquid diet. This weekend, I'm trying out protein rich recipe's that are easily pureed for after the surgery. Here we Goooooooooo!

Got my results from the colonoscopy. What they removed was 2 adenomas. 1 medium and 1 large. Stage 1 cancer. No further treatment needed since there was no chance for it to spread since it was caught and removed so early. Need to be watched closely with more frequent colonoscopies to make sure it doesn't come back. I also have to have a small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) test done in the next week or so. All my stomach polyps came back pre-cancerous but benign. Now I have to have a large uterine fibroid removed and tested and see a colorectal specialist for 2 other...things...removed. Then another endoscopy to check my stomach to see if polyps have come back. After that, if none have, I should be cleared for the revision. If they have, then I need to have them removed and tested and see what's next. So I still have AT LEAST another 3 months of this crap before I can even remotely look at the revision. And that's still a huge maybe at this point. My weight loss has completely stopped, I can barely work out (I can only do 30-45 min tow to three times per week instead of 1 1/2 - 2 hours 5 days per week...no weights, no core or strength training...just the treadmill if I go easy and the bike), and my diet is a mess because I still (even on 80mg of Nexium per day) get break through GERD and excruciating pain in my colon area that we're still investigating, so I can kinda sorta stick to my diet, but on really bad days I eat whatever will stay down and not hurt (like mashed potatoes, beans, bread, etc). I try to be religious with my diet when I'm having good or even ok days. But I'm literally about to lose my mind over here. I just want the GERD and polyps to STOP. I want the pain to stop. I want to get back on my diet PROPERLY. I want to really work out again. I miss my life the way it was before. Fun times over here, lemme tell ya.... 😵🙄
