  1. I totally relate @cindyw41. I started doing body pump class this week after a few years off. I can get on and off the bench easily for the chest and triceps tracks now. My NSV, I did 84 push-ups in one of the body pump classes this week. It is just nice to actually be able to do body weight exercises again.
  2. My NSV.. My husband goes with me to the gym. He does a lot of free weight exercises laying down on a weight bench. The first time I went months ago I had to roll off the side of the bench. After that embarrassing episode he has helped me get up. Today I was able sit up on my own!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. What an amazing NSV!!!
  4. My daughter left for France the day after my surgery with her HS French club. While waiting for her arrival today, I was standing with parents whom I've known since she was in Kindergarten. They watched me ballon from 140 to 280. They've known my struggles with meds and having rheumatoid arthritis. The steroids, the pain, the chemo drugs to try and control it. A friend took one look at me today and said " Omg Lisa! You look wonderful. Amazing. Your face looks like the old you!" Ok. Well maybe it doesn't completely yet- but it's been 9 years! Lol. None know I had the surgery. But I will tell you- it felt SO DAMN GOOD to get that kind of welcome instead of the sad faces " how're you feeling these days" I'm so used to hearing. Yay gastric bypass!!! 15 lbs since surgery- 25 since starting!!!

    October List of Surgery's

Congrats on the loss and all the great NSVs! As for the arms, I'm right with you. I'm debating an arm Lift when I get closer. If you look on the real self app you can see before and after pics and it's truly amazing how much it improves. I'm definitely going to do plastics and I NEVER thought I would. I'm thinking a breast lift, tummy tuck and arm lift. Hopefully I won't need a body lift to get the results I want. I have another endoscopy because I have developed an ulcer but I'm hoping the medication is doing its thing. Anyway I hope more people post. I e followed this group since the beginning. How is everyone?!?!?
  6. You both look fantastic. Love the weeping willow! My NSV for the week: starting Monday, for the first time since my surgery on 3/10, I've been able to keep food down, so I've met my Protein and fluids goals this week! And I've gotten reacquainted with a couple sweaters I haven't been able to wear in a couple years, at least.
  7. @@GibbsGirl you both look so happy, congrats on your success, you look fabulous (and your hair is an awesome color!) My NSV this week was seeing someone I had not seen in a while....she was so surprised by my weight loss, she kept stammering "you look amazing...I mean you look amazing...I mean really, you look really amazing". She sounded so shocked it was funny that she said the same thing at least half a dozen times.

    NSV shout outs

Walking shoes? Lucky you. We're still in wellies here in the UK!!! Took my dogs out for 2&1/2 hours yesterday and although the smaller pair were giving me 'that' look that told me they thought that I had gone a bit far (literally) the bigger re-home bitch was still going strong. I keep telling them that seeing as we have the best park (Bushy Park, right across the road from Hampton Court Palace) for dogs five minutes walk from home we might as well use it. I would never walk that far and for that long before my sleeve. Ain't life grand with all these little but really, really important NSVs

    NSV shout outs

So it's a half nsv/ half sv...I'm only 20 lbs from a "normal" weight/bmi...I don't remember the last time I could say that. It's funny because I am really quite pleased with my weight now, my personal goal is just 3 pounds more, and now I am a bit curious...just a nice "dilemma" to have I just realized I'm posting in the wrong forum...I just saw nsvs and got excited lol.

    You won't believe this NSV

Oh I know EXACTLY where you are coming from! I have not had anything like you experienced happen since I have had surgery (and I hope everything checks out OK for you!). I have lost over 200 pounds, and I know all too well the way I was treated “differently” as a morbidly obese patient! Earlier this month I had to go in for my first Colonoscopy (I am now 51). It was SO NICE to be treated like a ‘normal’ patient!! I think the only things that made me stand out was that I got really cold and I was dehydrated after the prep so my blood pressure was low and they had to give me IV Fluids. I would guess that these are two things they see in a LOT of patients – probably more that are close to a normal BMI (which I am). I am sure we all have stories that we could share about the horrible treatment by the medical establishment BEST NSV that I have read in a really long time! Thank you so much for sharing!! Carol

Glad you are doing better. Hope the monitor helps find the cause so it won't happen again. I can completely understand how this can be an NSV. Thanks for sharing. pam

How can you tell you lost weight?

Here is a NSV 7 days post op- this am in my closet for the heck of it I grabbed a pair of size 20 Capri jeans I couldn't get over my hips let alone ZIP 4 weeks ago. Guess what? I'm wearing them right now!!! And they look good on me!!!! Yahoo!
  14. scale sudoku BP Getting rid of stuff that I don't need (clothes too - NSV).Anything that just add clutter (books, VHS tapes, knick knacks, extra bedding, extra plates/pots/pans). Its like extreme spring cleaning - simplifying my house - is my excuse!
  15. I lost 22 pounds on my two week preop diet. Then it took 3 months to lose another 17 pounds after surgery. But Unlike so many others that whine about being "slow losers", I was thrilled. I'd lost 39 pounds for sh it's sake! How was that not awesome?! You really need to embrace this as an entire new lifetime of weight loss/maintenance. You shouldn't have any time-related deadlines. Just keep on plan, listen to your body, make adjustments to your nutrition as needed, and enjoy the NSVs. If you need numbers to concentrate on, make those numbers your Protein and Fluid goals. take your Vitamins. Use the next few months to learn new eating habits and coping mechanisms that will carry you through a lifetime of hardships to come. Don't worry what the scale says or especially what other people's scales say.

If you don't already, carry some trail mix or string cheese and a bottle of Water everywhere you go. I used to faint when I was normal sized (ah, to be thin again... soon!) because I was hypoglycemic. Blood sugar would crash, and down I'd go. It happened with some regularity until I brought Snacks with me. If you feel faint, eat a few bites and it should pass. This is if I'm correctly understanding the issue. I'm glad you had a positive experience with the EMTs and lack of embarrassment - I definitely understand! But fainting can be dangerous depending on where you are. I've heard of folks suffering from fairly serious head injuries from fainting in the bathroom and hitting the sink or tub, for example. You can't control how you fall. It's like one second you're standing up, then your vision clouds and hearing goes into a vacuum, and boom, you're awake on the floor surrounded by panicked faces. Congrats, though, on the NSV!
  18. Cheeky!!!!!!!!! It's the thought of you dear boy in that strip of Lycra that has addled my poor brain! Anyway, at 59 1/2 I'm allowed to talk about the weather. I'm practicing to be a miserable old git. But hang on, a NSV for me this week-bought a beautiful, black leather biker jacket in a UK size 14. Yay!!!!!!!! Looks fab with black jeans and slightly high black boots. I haven't had the boots on for about 9 years as they couldn't get up my calves. I'm so pleased! I'm having fun with my clothes now instead of hiding the rolls of suety, lardy rolls of flab under track suits. What my husband doesn't know cos I've hidden them, is that there is a new pair of black, very long boots waiting to be worn once the legs get a wee bit thinner. Must go and get some new, sleek black leggings to wait with them. I wish I had had surgery years ago. I am in the process of growing old VERY disgracefully. By the way, have managed to swim half a mile every morning this week. Ain't life grand. Yes, I've got some real crap going on in the background of my life but my slowly diminishing silhouette doesn't half cheer me up. Happy Easter bariatric pals x
  19. I wished I'd known how easy it would all be. Luckily I was blessed to have no major complications. But even the preop diet, surgery and anesthesia, postop diet, stalls, diarrhea, constipation, food intolerances, learning how to eat, eating healthy, being able to control head hunger, etc has been much less dramatic than most of the posts I read on these forums. Sure, it takes effort, but if you are committed and truly embrace the WLS lifestyle with a good attitude it is not that bad. The fun and exciting NSVs far outweighed anything negative I went through. I also wished I'd known I would get gallstones so I could have had my gall bladder removed during my VSG.

Glad you are ok!! Totally get the NSV aspect of the situation. It is a good feeling to be "normal size" and not have to worry about the small things. Take care your yourself!!
  21. This is weirdly a great NSV! I was in a car accident before my sleeve surgery and had two broken ankles and refused to go in the ambulance. I was horrified thinking about getting on the stretcher and the EMTs lifting me up. 130 lbs less I wouldn't worry about it now.

Glad you are feeling better and I can completely see how you would consider it an NSV. I had a similar experience when I was in a car accident in December. Wasn't self-conscious about my weight when bystanders and EMTs tended to me.

I do believe it because you have an honest face. That is quite an inside-out NSV, but I get it. Isn't it amazing that some past experiences resonate today so that we weave them into current events? I'm glad you're fine today, but think you should have your own doctor give you a look-over. We're not supposed to faint for no apparent reason.

Ummmmmmmm... Congratulations?? I mean, the subject is awful... But I really do see your NSV... Therefore, yes - congratulations!!!
  25. So for the first time in my life (57 years old) I passed out. Fainted, face planted...whatever you want to call it. I was with my sister on line waiting to purchase tickets to a show we want to see. Was doing fine...my sister, who is obese, was sweating and had to take off her coat. This is what happens to her when we're just walking quickly, which we were. Doesn't happen to me anymore. I stood on line with her with my jacket closed and not a drop of perspiration (thank you lapband!!) Suddenly I got light-headed and dizzy. Sounded like everything was under Water and told sis I needed to sit down. That was the last thing I remember till I woke up with sis in my face calling my name. The theater manager called 911 even though I asked them not to. The EMTs come running in, take off my coat, put a BP cuff on and ask me questions. I know they're checking my cognitive function. They knew I was OK when they asked me to get in the ambulance so they could do a quick ECG and I said OK as long as my sister stayed on line for the tickets. So..here's the NSV. First one...no embarrassment over this. No feeling like ugh..the fat woman is sick. She must have done something to herself. No one staring at me..only concern on their faces. Second NSV..Being able to climb into the ambulance. Never had to do that before and I know that when I was heavy, it would have been impossible. Third...no worry that the BP cuff would fit. Fourth..no worry when they asked me to sit on the 'bed' which was really just a shelf with a plastic cushion. Fifth...and truly the best NSV...the relief that my weight would not be an issue or even be mentioned. I'm normal sized now and that's what everyone sees. So I'm fine today and will wait to see if my doctor wants me to come in. I did tell the nurse what happened and she said she'd let me know if I need to come in. But that's not really the point. The point is that I felt like a normal person and was treated like a normal person in a rather unusual situation. Those of you who are/were morbidly obese as I used to be will understand where I'm coming from.
