Yes gas pain and pressure can be monsterous! I just found out today that i have to switch to Lactaid as opposed to skim milk because im lactose intolerant. Milk has alot of protein so i was using skim milk in the protein shakes instead of water and it was causing alot if gas and pain. They said its not uncommon for ryn patients to be or become lactose intolerant. Walking has helped alot to ease gas pain and pressure. Now that i know there will be no regular milk for me!....yogurt and aged cheese they say is alot lower in lactose....looking forward to having yogurt again in the near future! Yay! Never really liked milk anyway

A little food advice, please and thank you!

I think your NUT is crazy. Ice cream, milkshakes & the like are slider foods and completely empty calories. Fat & sugar will either upset your stomach at best or cause dumping & sliming at worse. Soft cheeses, cottage cheese, Peanut Butter, and greek yogurt are a much better choice. Instead of the 0% greek yogurt, go for the regular. Hell, have some guacamole, it's loaded with good fats. Drink whole milk for your Fluid intake. Just do your best on getting quality calories, not just hitting the number. It will come in time. -
I just had an apple and rhubarb yogurt - full fat, I hate low fat yogurt, so I dont eat tons of yogurt, as the saturated fat is not that great. That was breakfast. I was planning on a sandwich for lunch - probably ham and salad dinner tonight is a barbecue, got some nice lamb loin chops which we'll have with salad. Might have a small glass of wine with dinner. I try not to eat between meals at all. I do better on a 3 meal per day, no Snacks kind of routine, once I start eating at 4pm I cant stop kind of thing, so I just dont start. Thats an average day for me. I dont diet, I dont count calories at all and I most definitely dont do low carb. I just eat what I ate before in smaller portions minus all the snacks and crap in between. And whilst I dont do low carb, we have far far fewer Pasta dinners and much more plain meat and 3 veg type dinners now.

Need to lose 14pds to get VSG date
BeagleLover replied to Slimsoon1988's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suggest getting a good tasting 100% Protein isolate Protein powder (for example, UNJURY), Torani or Da Vinci sugarless flavorings, sugarless puddings, FAGE sugar free low fat yogurt.... piece of cake. You can easily do this by Dec. 29th. -
Flying after surgery, and puréed foods

You can bring packets of Protein powder and a collapsible funnel with you. Then just buy bottled Water or milk once you are through security and mix the Protein Powder into the bottle. A lot of airports also have thing like yogurt or cheese sticks for sale at various stands. Are you allowed cheese sticks in your pureed stage? I was. If you don't know, maybe you can ask your nutritionist ahead of time. For eating out, you are going to be pretty limited to just Soups. Be careful to not eat any of the more solid chunky bits. Definitely do NOT eat the celery if there's celery in there. It's way too fibrous, even cooked. -
Hello - Missed U Guys

Wow... I hope you start to feel better real soon. I have my protein shake for a morning snack around 10 - 10:30, it takes me a good 1/2 hour to drink. It is 64 grams of protein, then I have approximatley another 20 grams of protein, thru yogurt, cottage cheese etc. -
Which Yogurt Do You Like With Most Protein?
diochick replied to AngieG0410's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've tried other Greek yogurts, but I must say Chobani is my favorite. It's a much smoother texture than others I've tried (which I've discovered to be gritty feeling). -
Finally in the post op side!

Question about shakes!
CrissyRing77 replied to jroxhere's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I was worried too and I'm only supposed to have 2 oz and I'm 8 weeks out...but I asked my surgeon bc I seem to be able to gulp without even thinking and was worried I was messing everything up, he said nope this is normal bc your tummy is a sleeve and especially depending on how vertical the portion is that remains it may nearly go straight through you! No worries! My bet is if you are in mushies or when you can start adding some dense proteins you will be full must faster! I still am barely able to finish two oz, so for example I am supposed to have 4TBSP of food(yes 2oz) so last night I had 2TBSP Taco Ground Beef(heated) then topped it with 2 TBSP Cottage Cheese, so all protein and I had to stop with one to two small bites left. If it was Greek yogurt it woulda gone down super easy. Hope that helps some! -
The stuff that sings to me....gets re-homed. Just takes too much emotional energy to slip up and feel guilty. I'm tired of the food drama in my life. My food at home falls under two categories... 1. Healthy legal stuff. 2. Naughy stuff my husband likes that I find repugnant. Not saying I don't eat treats once in a blue moon. I do. But I make a point not to bring it into the house, or only bring it into the house for a special occasion with a very limited quantity. Lots of steps that make me THINK about the choice. Not saying I can't make that choice once in a while....but it's gonna be my idea and not the singing. LOL:) I want my food choices to be deliberate. (even the occasional splurge) There is one legal-ish item that I struggle with a little. Yasso greek yogurt bars. God, how I love them. LOL. They come in a box of four. I usually get them when I take my mom grocery shopping. I take two home (one for me, one for hubby), and leave two at her house. They have a hell of a time singing to me....from her house:)

It could be from taking your meds with only liquids. I know if I take ANY meds without something mushy or semi-solid that I will be nauseous as soon as the medication hits the bottom of my stomach. Our new stomachs have a narrow curve at the bottom now so pills tend to sit there as they dissolve and it can irritate the stomach lining quite a bit if they are sitting on bare tummy. Try taking them with something solid or yogurt or pudding at the very least so that the pills can dissolve in the food and not directly on the stomach lining before passing into the pylorus.

I agree with the turkey breast idea. I have the "cajun injector" and they make a yummy marinade that's roasted garlic and herb, or you can make your own. I use OJ, lots of spices and butter when I don't have any ready made marinade. Green bean casserole made with greek yogurt, and cream of mushroom Soup is yummy. If you can tolerate cauliflower, I love roasted cauliflower mock mashed potatoes with cheese and bacon.

PINKBERRY AND FRO-YO
No game replied to lifelovekix's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I'm sure you can eat it... But is it a comparable replacement for the shakes? No. If your on full liquids try some Fage plain Greek yogurt with some Splenda and vanilla extract. -

Yoplat makes a really good frozen greek yogurt popsicle....the vanilla and honey tastes like ice cream. I lived off of that for a couple weeks LOL -
Thanks Rachel! My concern is that I had it done overseas, so needless to say the DR has been very lax in the post-op diet and Im left to do my own research online , which can be frustrating with the amount of information. To make matters worse. I managed to get a head cold that has made me super weak with flu symptoms , so Im not able to be active to assist the first week. Im just so nervous.. I guess tomorrow I will re-start and only take in Water, Soup and tea.. and elliminate the sugar free Jello and diet yogurt..

Hi, I was also banded on 4-12-11. I have lost 16 lbs so far from starting my pre-op diet. Don't worry, you sound like you are doing it correctly. I have been having yogurt and pudding and it is working. I was in the hospital for 3 days due to low potassuim, so I was loaded with liquid. I have been having a yogurt everyday and have been losing. I have make up my own sort of yogurt conconction that is working great. Here is is in case you want to try it: Half of a dannon light and fit pinapple/coconut yogurt (3 ounces) about 2-3 ounces of 1% milk or skim scoop of vanilla Protein powder few ice cubes Blend it up and it tastes like a virgin pina colada and loaded with the protein! Takes a little time to finish it all, but you should only sip it. I have also added Protein Powder to any instant sugar free pudding (usually a half a scoop)

Not losing like we should
Matt Z replied to Sleeve12/27/2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sucks that you can't tolerate meats... Have you asked your surgical team about it? Are you able to consume other protein heavy foods? Cottage cheese, yogurt, etc? How's your water consumption? Your tag block says you've lost 108 lbs since Dec 27 already, that's pretty epic! Things to factor in, when we get older and thinner the basal metabolic rate slows, meaning the baseline calorie requirement for someone to exist without any added exercise (ie if one slept in bed all day long) lowers. So we have to keep adjusting that calorie target or increasing exercise to combat the reduction in the basal. Also, muscle mass increases causes increases in daily caloric requirements, so weight lifting for mass can be helpful in fat reduction. Good Luck! -
i had my band 4/2. I've been on Protein shakes and have been good for the most part, and some okay foods like yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, etc... i refuse to "puree" stuff. yuck. yesterday I had some very moist skinless chicken (diced, and I chewed very well). later in the day, I had a couple Doritos (no, I dont intend on being bad), and some cashews. chewed the cashews well, of course. sorry, I have been exercising ALOT more and for some reason have been alot hungrier.. I've lost 14 lbs since my band 10 days ago..! a couple days ago I had a couple pieces of wheat melba toast. so far everything has stayed down fine without discomfort or anything else. any thoughts or feedback from anyone? is my band going to slip? am I hurting myself? or is everyone's healing a bit different?

I am 4 days post surgery. I have NO energy...I know that I didn't have a lot before the surgery because of the weight, but I had more than this. I am walking around the house as much as I can. I am drinking my Protein Shakes, lots of Water, some tea. I have eaten some yogurt, applesauce, and broth. All of which is on my instructions. I would like to be doing some normal things, Am I rushing it ? Any advice is welcome. I know I am still on the liquid diet and that is fine, but I want to be able to do more. I really don't see how people go back to work at this stage...I am a teacher, so thankfully, I have the summer to recover and get used to my new lifestyle. I can't get the ticker tracker to show up on here!!

Hello everybody! I too am new-just joined yesterday. I got banded on 10-7-05 and Dr. St. Laurent says that I have done real good for a bandster because I have lost 58 pounds in just 3 months!!! However, I had my second fill 5 days ago and and am not doing well at all. I can just barely keep down liquids or a few bites of yogurt. I'm going to give myself another 3 or 4 days and if no improvement I will call the doctor back. Does anybody think that this is too restrictive or should it settle down after a week or so? I tried a few bites of baked fish yesterday and it got "stuck" and lasted for about 2 hours and I about died. Couldn't throw it up but it finally stopped. I am afraid to eat any solid food right now and I swear that I will never go through that again!!!

7 days post-op what should i expect
jen120 replied to tracey-ann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seems like every doctor has a different plan with regard to easing people back into food. This is the plan from my nutritionist... 2 weeks post op...Protein shakes only 3 weeks post op Phase 1 Eating...soft Protein such as cottage cheese, yogurt, Beans, lunch meats, regular cheese, tuna, eggs 4 weeks post op Phase 2 Eating...adding in fruits and veggies 6 weeks post op Phase 3 Eating...adding in harder Proteins such as chicken breast, steaks, etc 8 weeks post op Phase 4 Eating...adding in carbs such as bread, starchy veggies etc -
This is hard. Almost feel like I did right after surgery. 11 months out and getting a little reminder of what surgery felt like. Stomach hurts. Can't drink much at a time. No solid food. Dreading having to get some isopure. But even my syntrax shakes are killing my tummy. Diluted G2, sf Popsicles, if no improvement tomorrow adding isopure for protein. Ugh.... Feel so stinking weak. But working on not getting dehydrated. Fingers crossed I can tolerate some Greek yogurt tomorrow. Need sustenance.

I am in this stage as well, but less than 2 weeks post op. My pouch likes eggs. I did a scrambled egg with some american cheese to moisten it and it went down well. I also did egg salad smushed to a puree and that was tasty and good too. I ate the crab/cheese filling of a few crab rangoons that sat in my stomach like a lead weight. I won't try that again, but it was silly of me to try that so early out. The family had goulash and garlic bread one night so I took some of the meat sauce before the Pasta was added and tossed it in the magic bullet (blender) until it was the consistency of cat food. I sprinkled some parmesan cheese on it for added Protein and ate about 2 T. of that. It was delicious and sat well. Today I am going to puree some lentil Soup for lunch. I have a sweet potato for later in the week. I will bake it then mash it up with some liquid to thin it out. I prefer to stay away from white potatoes because they are a waste of space in the tiny amount I can eat at this point. I also plan to make chicken chili later this week and will puree some of that and add liquid of needed. I've only been doing real food for a couple of days so I haven't tried much and can eat so little, but everyone is different. My pouch likes Greek yogurt best and I can actually eat a whole serving of it. You may be different. Search the boards for ideas. Ricotta bake seems to be popular. It's like no pasta lasagna, just layers of ricotta mixed with an egg and seasonings, layered with sauce and cheese and baked. I also have some refried Beans I'll try next week. They seem too thick to try this early out for me.
