Too Good To Be True?
BigGirlPanties replied to MzGawjuss's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes try Protein drinks...watch out for the sugar and carbs...another is carbmaster yogurt which is available at Kroger...if you have one... low carb and sugar... Also, as you progress, you can apply for free protein/vitamins/scar cream at InsureNutrition.com ... I get it delivered each month...the cream is really light and not greasy, and helped with other scars I have had for YEARS.!!! -
Oh, it's soft and creamy (I added broth and greek yogurt, pureed onions, eggs, zucchini....) it's been fine the first two weeks. I guess today was an 'off' day for me.

I am also newly sleeved (4/4). I have been doing a lot of smoothies that my nutritionist recommended. I seem to like the yogurt smoothies the best. The pre-mixed protein shakes I lived on during pre-op phase sound terrible to me now. For smoothie: Any container Greek 100 yogurt (sugar under 10) 1/2 c milk 1 scoop unflavored protein powder 1/4 c dry milk Half banana (or other fruit) It takes me half the day to get it down, but it tastes good. There are a few others I can share if you're interested, or Pinterest seems to have a lot of good ideas as well. Good Luck!

My doctor's office told me "no carbs" but the sample eating record & food list both include things that have carbs! So I've been confused and doing my best. I mostly eat Protein (eggs, cheese, yogurt, chicken) with a few blueberries or 1/3 banana here and there, plus Protein shakes. I can live just fine without rice, oatmeal, potatoes, Pasta and bread (tho I really really love bread) but crave fruit and vegetables, things I have always been told to concentrate on eating while watching my weight. Using Sparkpeople.com, I'm keeping track of calories, carbs, fat, Fiber, and protein. Tho my carbs are high according to the doctor, they're not even registering on the bottom of the "healthy for you at this stage" carb range. For now, this is the best I can do, especially since a lot of things just don't stay down well.

The hubbs and I were JUST talking about this!! I'm trying to steer away from using as many processed things as possible when possible, and when I DO use them I have to read labels because I'm having reactions to anything with MSG, aspartame, and citric acid. I've been using cream cheese made with greek yogurt, but I am starting to second-guess that decision! My poor hubby still has it in his head that low-fat and sugar-free are the way to go... We still have some work to do.

Confession: I’m terrible with numbers. I see that the post-op puree diet suggests meals which include measurements of both ounces and tablespoons (and cups). Are these interchangeable? For example: 4 Tbsp pureed chicken ½ cup refried Beans 3 oz. yogurt ¼ cup cottage cheese 2 Tbsp yogurt I bought a pack of condiment containers which are marked 2 oz. It took about 3 1/2 tablespoons of tuna, when I measured. I also poured a 2 oz container of Water into my ice cube tray, and it fit perfectly into three cubes. So, if I want to measure a proper serving of Protein, am I safe to assume that whatever fits into the 2 oz cup is considered a serving? Or it depends on which food it is (refried beans vs. yogurt vs. pureed chicken?) Thanks!

I am a bus driver for our local school district. I'm driving for a field trip on Friday (for my daughters class ) I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good cold sack lunch to take with me. Just to let everyone know, I dont do tuna, yogurt, or cottage cheese. LOL Thanks and I cant wait to read your suggestions!

I'm gonna try the granola idea, and the Protein addition. I'm going to do plain yogurt, then use the fruited ones for a splurge. Thanks guys, you gave me some great ideas and opinions. It helps!

Soft foods on my list was scrambled eggs, yogurt, refried beans, stuff with a puree consistancy.

Not wanting to go to next phase
gomekast replied to ualaw08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way. My nurses didnt blame me and said it was not a big deal. I did what another poster said and took my time. If I wanted to try puree chicken I did..but stuck with the yogurts and shakes. Now, 3 months post op, I have a tiny sleeve that doesn't allow for much. I like it that way too. -
Most unusual food in your tracker..?
Domika03 replied to FLORIDAYS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Funny you should ask... just today I tracked 1/2 cup yogurt (not a big deal) AND 1/2 a clementine! Yes, 1/2 a clementine, which I might add, had no protein but is yummy! -
yes, at one point I simply went and ate extra spoonful or two of yogurt because I was completley wiped a little freaky feeling like that to much, but post surgery diet gone I don't have these troubles at all, 3 months out now.

Almost 8 weeks out, down 26 pounds from 271 to 245 So I got my first fill last week, and I am REALLY tight. So much so that I've lost 5 pounds in 6 days! I am finding it extremely difficult to eat anything in the morning. I even feel stuck just trying to drink some water or juice in the morning; warm coffee seems to go down much more easily. I had a particularly bad day this last Saturday: so let me first say that of course I recognize that no one who is trying to lose weight has any business eating anything at McDonald's. However, every so often I allow myself to indulge, and Saturday morning was that occurrence. I was soooo excited about eating some of that sausage biscuit, let me tell you. I was going to be taking a quick road trip of about an hour on Saturday morning, and I figured with this great restriction it would practically take me an hour to eat about a quarter of that delicious biscuit. Well, I think I managed to eat a total of one normal sized bite, taken in teeny tiny little pieces which just REFUSED to go down. UGH! Never has a human being been so disappointed. I cursed the band, let me tell you! I wanted to eat that damn biscuit in the worst way! And, to showcase my food addiction even more - instead of throwing the blasted biscuit away when I reached my destination, like any sane person would.....I wrapped it up and saved it, thinking to myself, maybe I'll loosen up later today and I can still eat some of this later!! I tried, not once, but twice more throughout Saturday to eat some of that biscuit, and EVERY time I tried it was worse. Waaaahhhhhh!! I also had my first PB (productive burping) episode on Saturday. I now know that it was precipitated by the biscuit incident in the morning, but I wasn't smart enough to be worried about that when I sat down to lunch with my husband and some friends......I unrolled my chicken salad wrap and picked out a tiny forkful of tender shredded chicken. I chewed and chewed and chewed until it was liquid, and when I swallowed, at first I thought it was OK, but after a few seconds I got that awful pressure feeling in my chest. So I sat there and talked and waited for it to subside and eventually decided to take a bite of my fruit cup - one tiny cube of mushy peach, which I chewed up to nothing and then swallowed. I immediately got the stuck feeling, and my mouth started filling up with saliva. This has happened to me before many times, but somehow I realized, luckily, that this time was different. My husband's colleague was in the middle of asking me a question, and I literally jumped up from the table, completely cut him off mid-sentence, and was barely able to choke out 'please excuse me' before I was running to the ladies room. As soon as I got in there, up popped the peach, and lots and lots and lots of saliva. BLECH! I thought I would feel immediately better, but I didn't. I stayed in there a while trying to regain some composure. In previous episodes where I would get that stuck feeling, and would "slime" for a while, at a certain point I'd feel things settle down and go through, and I'd be fine and would actually want to resume eating. This time, however, there was no way I was going to try to eat anything else for a while. I had to be really careful even drinking water for the rest of the day. I finally had a very few morsels of dinner (a couple bites of mashed potatoes and a tiny piece of husband's soft and gooey chicken quesadilla) many hours later, around 8:30pm. They went down OK, but I was scared bc we were in public at a bar, and I did NOT want to have to race off to the bathroom again, so I didn't push it. Sunday morning there was very little change, I still felt extremely tight and had to be careful even swallowing my yogurt. But, by lunchtime I had loosened up and was able to eat half of a turkey sandwich with no problems. So, on Saturday I was feeling a little panicked, and thinking - maybe I'm too tight?? Maybe I should get a slight unfill? But, now, a couple of days later, I've realized that there's something to be said for being this tight - it absolutely forces me to take tiny bites, chew properly, not drink after eating......it basically forces me to be accountable at all times to the band. I think as long as I'm careful and don't PB all the time, maybe I'll just deal with it?? Because you know, of course I'm loving, loving, loving watching the scale drop each day! The only thing I'm worried about right now is how to explain my sudden bird-like portions to friends. This weekend when someone made a comment, I just said, "Oh, you know me! I'm just trying to lose some weight....AGAIN, ha ha ha..." I just wonder if someone is eventually going to catch on to my secret! I really, really, really hope not.

Thanks! This one had no fruit pieces, But I put it in the nutrubullet anyway. It really didn't do anything but whip it around for a second. But I ate the yogurt and feel fine. 6 oz!

I've been hiding...now I'm back needing support
GreatlyBlessed replied to MamaJava's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi MamaJava, I haven't been banded very long (2 months) so I know I can't give you more helpful advise than someone who has been banded longer. I just want to say I think you should relax. Sit down and think about what you are eating. Be honest with yourself and keep a journal of everything you eat and record your exercise. If you make sure your calories, sugar, and carbs are low I don't see how you can't lose. I know you say you are not eating breads and Pasta but carbs are in a lot of other things as well and in high numbers. I keep my food and exercise journal on my computer. Anytime I pick something up to eat I go straight to my computer and type it in along with the calories, fat, carbs, sugar, and Protein it provides. If you just have to have ice cream try low fat yogurt. I eat the low fat yogurt or no sugar added ice cream but I only eat it maybe two to three times a month. I don't eat it everyday. You could also try sugar free/fat free pudding made with 1/2% milk. I love that, I sometimes mix bananas in it. Other than that just make sure you are doing everything you possibly can to lose the weight. I know I want to lose this weight so bad and I will not sabotage my success by eating things I know I shouldn't eat. -
I've got the same thing. The only protein I can drink is Unjury. And the only meal replacement I can drink is Chike (it's got 23 g of protein). And for another minus- I'm allergic to soy, so I gotta be extremely careful. Sometimes yogurt will help with the allergy as well. But you can't have that pre op.

Do you eat out all weekend? Uf you do then you need to plan ahead and bring foods with you and also have a plan of where/what you can eat on the go. (for example; I can have black bean soup at panera or a veggie burger minus the bun at burger king) If you are eating junk at home get it out of the house! garbage is garbage whether it gets there by eating it or tossing it. Just toss it! replace with healthy snacks/food. Laughing cow cheese wedges are great, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, etc. I found that not planning ahead was a big problem and I have been working on always having a plan.

I am 5 weeks out from surgery and can eat pretty much anything now. I haven't tried certain things (like lettuce or fruit) but so far everything has been OK. the thing is, i'm running out of things to eat. this was my problem before surgery and its my problem now - i'm a picky eater! and i get sick of things easily. i can only get down 2-3oz of food comfortably and that is great, except that obviously will not give me enough Protein and it takes me an hour (sometimes more!) to eat. i've been having a Protein shake in the AM, a Protein Bar for lunch (it was cheese last week), and then meat for dinner. usually i have to throw in some protein hot chocolate as well. i know i should be eating regular foods but i don't have the damn time and i am out of foods to eat. would i like a hard boiled egg? yes, i would but i would only be able to eat 1 and that is like 6g of protein - big whoop. i'd rather just suffer through a protein shake and get 20g in the AM. i am sick of tuna fish and chicken salad. i bought store brand deli chicken and low fat low sodium cheese and tried to do roll ups. well they just tasted disgusting. i tried making tilapia but it didn't taste great (i think it was frozen too long). i have been living off of meatballs for the past week. i'm going to try chicken tonight. next week i'll make chicken burgers. i do love dairy (hate greek yogurt though) but its got so much fat. how do you find a balance between eating and getting enough protein and using supplements? i just feel overwhelmed and never know what to eat. what am i supposed to bring for lunch? if i don't bring lunch, what the hell am i supposed to eat out? how am i supposed to get all of my protein in? I should add that it is just me - i don't cook for a husband or family. I'm also 23 so my cooking isn't that great. LOL HELP!

Been a month out now! Need some suggestions and advice!
gordonfamily3 replied to vericks's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
They are so correct....try everything you can to stay away from carbs..you want stay full long at all and that will just cause the grazing. A fill shouldn't be done until you are at lease 6 weeks out. So hang in there. Get some yogurt and add some unflavored protien...you will be suprised how long that keeps you full. Hang in there... -
For those of you who drink a Protein shake in the am, how long does it hold you? Since my last fill I am tight and in the mornings I don't really feel like eating something solid, so I decided to give the Protein shakes another try. For the last two days I have drank the Slim Fast High Protein, it has 180 calories, 20 g of protein, 2g of carbs, 2 g of Fiber. The shake taste pretty good and it doesn't give me indigestion like other protein shakes have done so a plus plus. However, about 2 hours after I drink it I am hungry. I drink it around 7 am so by 9 I am starved, but I don't want to eat my snack (greek yogurt) until 10 so that will last until my lunch at 12:30-1. How do the shakes work for you?

Good for you!! I'm almost two weeks out from surgery... I had to do a two wk liquid diet prior and that encompassed my birthday and the fourth. I did not cheat!!! I am still on a liquid diet and I will be till I see the surgeon on the 30th. I feel so good since I had the surgery not being able to eat has been rough. I'm not hungry but I just want something different. I am lucky that I can have yogurt and SF pudding but after almost a month it is getting old. My family has hugely benefitted because I've become obsessed with food TV (sadistic I know) and they have had a home cooked meal every night for the last week and half and yes that is how good I feel since surgery. All I can say is I am really looking forward to my appointment and pureed food, which previously didn't think I wanted to do.... I was just going to keep doing liquids and wait for soft foods, but now pureed sounds great!!!'

No, I just weigh it before I pack it and/or bring portion controlled, single-serving items (I am very guilty of eating Lunchables and leaving the crackers behind in a pinch LOL). I actually pack both my breakfast AND lunch AND snacks when I go into the office, a 10 hr day that starts at 6:30 AM once a week. The way I figure it I need to take care of Future Me's needs so I don't feel tempted to go poking around in the vending machine. My lunch usually looks like this (I am 18m post op and am in maintenance, but my calories are low because I am a small person): Breakfast: Zero sugar Chobani, 1/4 oz of chopped walnuts or pecans, Super Coffee protein shake as a mid morning snack. (all in, about 200 calories and 25g of protein) Lunch: Veggies, some kind of dip (if you aren't making dips with greek yogurt what are you doing with your life?), usually a couple of "lunchmeat roll ups" that are each one slice of deli meat and half a slice of cheese, another 1/4 oz of nuts (usually pistachios this time), a couple pickle slices (usually somewhere around 250-ish calories and another 25g of protein) Snacks: Options include Babybel light and a couple triscuits, Campbell's Well Yes sippable soups, protein shakes, or half a protein bar (I usually end up with leftovers)(any of these would give another 10g or so of protein). I eat dinner at home with my husband on these days and it's usually something protein-heavy

You say cold yogurt goes down easily - have you tried cold water? Just a thought.

i'm eating about a 1/2 cup at a time. very rarely am i full with that -- i'm forcing myself to stop eating. i figure the hunger is normal at this stage. i've lost that immediate post-surgery (where a 1/4 cup of yogurt would make me feel like i had had 4 plates of Pasta carbonara), but i'm definitely not ravenous. well, except for yesterday when i had less than 60 grams of Protein. i noticed around 4pm that i was super fatigued and hungry. (drank 1/2 a Protein shake and was MUCH better within minutes.) i think until we get fills, we're pretty much "dieting" on our own, or with minimal help from our bands.
