oh yeah well i can say this for sure that the pain is much better day by day :Banane37:. Well as far as the drinking part i was given ice chips and water about 2 hours after surgery. (the nurse offered me a diet soda but as far as i know we aren't supposed to have anything carbonated so i just didn;t drink it). the water stayed down with no feelings of nausea. I only got a lil nausea when i stood up to walk up and down the hall which was about 3 1/2 hours post op. my surgery was schedualed for 8am and i was out by 2:30 ish. Now i am drinking water. and i mix in some of that kelogs potein water to get some protein. My insicions are doing well except for 1 that is well sorry if this is TMI but it's ight under mt breast and it kinda is rubbing on it. I just put a paper towel on top of it to prevent running. no gas problems but i been using the gas-x strips just in case. i take bout 2 a day. as far as home i live with my parents but really i can do everything for myself. i showered the next day after surgery but immediatly took something for pain. i do work but i have 2 weeks off before i go back to work or school :sleep2: oh yeah andi don't have any children but if i did i wouldn't be able to care for them much. i have pretty much just beenlaying around on the couch for the last 2 days. oh and also it is painful to sleep laying down so i have been sleeping on the couch sitting up. i have heard people say it is very comfertable to sleep in a recliner.

UGGGH!! THe gas pains for me were the worst too!! I had gas so bad under my ribs, I could not take a deep breath. AND, I am sorry to tell you but nothing helps but time. I think it was like day 4 when mine broke loose. I started tootin' and tootin' and then I got the squirts. I was so happy to have them. But, be careful tootin, cuz you might just poop your pants. I did....3 times!! LOL, TMI!! Hope you feel better soon, cuz that gas is NO JOKE!! Kelly -
I Kno This Might Be Sick But
traceyinflorida replied to mbasile's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
During the liquid phase, other than the bit of diarhea I had in the hospital (very little and yes, tmi) I did not have another BM for several days and that was mostly liquid. I am seven weeks out and on regular food now and still only go either every other day or every third day. I read in my post surgery guide that this is not uncommon. -
so, i was banded w/crohns, had horrible stomach issues - would go days w/out going to the bathroom (sorry tmi i know) & i just avoided salads for fear that the roughage would cause more damage - NO. last wk i had my checkup w/my band surgeon, and while we were talking it dawned on me that i go to the bathroom EVERY day now - no flare ups. he said that was a HUGE sign that my digestive system was working on all cylinders and a mark of proper health. i lived on carbs beforehand & while i did/do love fruit & veggies - i didn't include them in my EVERY day diet. i do now, my body actually craves it. had grilled shrimp on romaine for lunch yesterday - kept me satisfied for 5hrs......was so good, i'm having the same today.

Please help me figure out surgeries!
NovaLuna replied to Jessa4140's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 32 (almost 33) and had the Loop DS at my surgeons suggestion because along with the original DS it has the highest average percentage of weight loss. I say average because some people can lose just as much with the other surgeries, but I have hypothyroidism and so the Loop DS was their suggestion. I was 321 on the day of my surgery and now five months out I'm 245. So I've lost 76 pounds in these past 5 months (and 64 before my surgery). The thing with the DS though is you occasionally get really BAD stomachaches. Like my system will be fine one minute and the next it's like RUUUUUNNN (or you know, accident). It's kinda the norm now though so... you get used to it, but my family knows when I get an odd look on my face that I'm gonna be 'occupied' for a while. Oh, and this is TMI but don't think you can escape the constipation curse that people often get with weight loss surgeries if you have the DS, because it happened to me TWICE and it shocked my surgeons office because apparently I'm their first Loop DS patient who ever had that issue... but it CAN happen! Also, I have a reaction to wheat that was remarkably similar to dumping syndrome even though that's not SUPPOSED to be possible with the DS or Loop DS (I started having stomach pain, sweating, nausea, followed by... bathroom time, about 15 minutes after I ate. Worst nausea I'd had since BRAIN SURGERY! Needless to say I avoid wheat products like the plague now!). Soooo, yeah. I don't know if it's just weird abnormal stuff that happens to me or if a lot of Loop DS patients have had similar experiences lol. I don't regret my choice for surgery though. Every surgery has their ups and downs so you kind of just have to go over those and decide what'll work for you! I wish you the best! -
yesterdayyyyy all my troules seemed so far awayyyy
shmack replied to shmack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Nawww thanks laffy :blushing: Last night I had a REALLY bad night... I was up until about midnight because my bf and his bro were 'hanging out' = lots of booze and stupid computer games lol... Anyways, being the one not drinking I was designated driver to maccas for a mighty angus meal at 11.30pm at night. Got home after the boys were talking about cochroaches in the car (dont ask how they got onto that topic) and all of a sudden I had the urge to be sick... TMI but I even started the whole sliming process and knew if I didn't lay down straight away I would be dry heaving in no time and at risk of slipping the band... Luckily the moment I laid on my back the pain and feeling went away... then I stood up again and it was back again... I'm wondering whether it could be because I had a big day and maybe the drag on my skin/stomach from the port cord could have been a bit much??? Any ideas? This morning I have a very sensetive incision in one spot.. i feel a bit bruised up and when I stand I can feel a bit of a drag.. probably normal as everything else so far has been...but you know the story.. waiting for my bad luck to return lol:unsure: -
I have a somewhat TMI question. I can’t find anything on Google about it so I figured I’d ask if anyone else has had this problem. I’ve had bladder and urinary tract pain for the last six months and I’m wondering if it’s related to the RNY or the loose skin I have from weight loss. I am a year and a half out from surgery so it’s not related to the catheter. I’m thinking it’s a loose skin issue. The majority of my loose skin is in my stomach, lower pelvis area, and upper inner thighs. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hello again, I'm sorry I have posted so much.....but wanted to know if anyone else has had experience with this....I started full liquids today so I had 2 premier protein shakes, water, and 1/2 cup of tomato soup...I have also started having diarrhea today. Does anyone know what could be going on? Thank you!

VVV, I was sleeved on 8/25 and I regretted it for about two days after. I was in pain. It does get better. You start to realize what gives you gas, what you can tolerate and what to avoid. I've learned everything except broth makes me gassy. Lol. TMI. Each day will get better. You had major surgery. Your body needs to heal itself. You've been through a trauma. But, you took the first major step in getting the surgery. Keep your chin up.

Wheetsin, Really? Even mild dehydration? Because the first night I got a headache happened to be a day I had cried a lot. My only day of crying really. It was the first week and hormones you know.. Anyway, I thought because (excuse the TMI) that since my urine was not bright yellow that it wasn't the fluids. But maybe later on during the night the crying caught up with me. I will pay closer attention and see if this is a pattern. Thanks! And thanks everyone else who said it may be the fluids. I hope it is as simple as that..

My surgery/hospital stay.
ajoneen commented on ajoneen's blog entry in Watch out life, here I come!!
I had surgery on 3/4 at 10am. Great time cause I got to sleep in a bit. Arrived at the hospital with my sister and husband and was directed to the surgical waiting area. They called my name, I was taken to pre op and given a gown , slippers and a hat, pointed to a tiny restroom. I changed, put my clothes in the bag with my name on it and came out into the pre op area with the beds separated by curtians. I was weighted (255) and assigned a bed. Note on the gown- nice and big made of soft paper and had velcro at the shoulders for-I found out later- ease of removal in surgery. The nurse asked me a million questions-allergies, what I was there for, name, is the ID band correct, medication Im taking. She started the IV, gave me a shot of Lovenox(hurt, stings) and my family was brought in. Anesthesiologist came looked at chart and left. Sidebar- I contacted the complementary medicine department at the hospital about relaxation therapy before surgery and was told to purchase a cd in the gift shop and listen to it before surgery. Than this lady, Irene would come up to pre op to help me with the stress of the surgery. Ok Im game. I buy& listen. In comes Irene all cheery, did I listen to the cd? yes. Am I still nervous? yes. How about listening to the cd again? screw the cd, I need more then the cd. She rubs my forehead and ears kind of like a massage, but not. She has stinky perfume. Ok I smiled said she could stop. Now she just hovered next to the bed talking about grace and mercy. I tuned her out. My Dr comes in & starts talking about the procedure and how everything will be fine. OK here it comes- I say It will be fine as long as I don't have a catheter. Dr says well thats not how they do it here. Wait for it..... Amanda FREAKS!!!!! I banged both hands on the rails of the bed and started in on how I was the patient and what I said goes. I gotta give the Dr credit he didn't freak (Irene jumped and disappeared) He just continued talking like I never popped a fuse and said maybe I wasn't ready for the band. My sister gives me the look and said I needed to explain why I wasn't going to have the cath. Now Im a little embarrassed about popping off and pissed that the cath has anything to do with getting banded. Staring off into the ceiling I explain why- infection, pain, and (the kicker) if no cath I will get up and walk more in recovery as with the cath I will remain glued to the bed. I will be a happier more willing patient. The Dr stops, blinks, says OK, and walks away. I am so pleased with myself. The Anesthesia nurse comes in with the good drugs, asks me who I am then pumps them in the IV. They start pushing the bed out of pre op. Sister squeezes my hand and husband gives me a kiss. I totally freak-again. Am I doing the right thing? Did I think this through? Someone is going to be CUTTING ME! This all passes though my head in about 5 seconds. Deep breath. The drugs must be kicking in. I don't care any more. Im just enjoying the view. Rolled into the surgery suite, asked to slide to other table, centered myself and told them I was "equadistance from both sides of the table". Ha ha. Next thing Im waking up in recovery. Im asked if Im in pain, rate it 1-10, I said 3 or 4. nurse said you mean more like 7 right? Nope , then I remember about how if you say you're nauseated they give you something that has a side effect of making you really sleepy and Im thinking sleepy would be really good now. So I say Im nauseous. In go the drugs out goes Amanda. I woke up about 2 hours later with the nurse saying that I needed to be moved to the bed I would be in overnight. HA? Bed? You mean moved to room, right. Nope. No room at the hospital, Im going to be staying at the back end of the recovery with 3 other Lap banders. Great. So they tell my family to leave and get me out of bed. Here is where I found out about the velcro on the gown. noone redid it after putting it back on after surgery and as I go to sit up I flashed the recovery room and my fellow patients all my new incisions and my boobs. Great. I get wrapped up, moved, pit stop at the john where I have to pee in a container they called the hat and connected to monitors and compression bootys. So starts my first overnight stay in the hospital. I could keep going about all that happened. The bed didn't work, the compression booties stopped working about midnight, pain shot (that I took only to get some sleep) gave me a headache, I used the sore throat spray on the scrape the Anesthesiologist made on the top of my mouth, ate alot of ice, tried to sleep, 3am ripped out of sleep by the fire alarm clanger next to my bed, the people running through the fire door also next to me,(the false alarm was never explained but since my hospital was in the fire district my husband volunteers in I knew I was in good hands), 8pm 12am,5am 8am temp and blood pressure, 2 more Lovenox shots(ouch), multiple trips to the john (about 500cc each for those that were counting) 8am trip to radiology for the barium and x ray. They messed up the first picture and had to do a total of three which meant that I drank 16oz of barium. Then Im sent home with instructions to drink 1 ounce every hour. (I asked about the 16 0z of barium, no one had an answer or comment) a pain scrip (later at the pharmacy I found out it was one that Im allergic to) and the instructions printed out from the nutritionist for my meals for the next 5 weeks. I dont think I want to go to the hospital again. At home all things are better. Heating pad for the shoulder, liquid Tylenol(good stuff!) for pain, lots of juice and broth with unjury added. Im a happy camper now. Very minimal discomfort. I don't think I will ever stop passing barium. (ya-TMI) Before surgery I drew a smiley face (my signature as I have one as a tattoo somewhere) and a green shamrock on my belly for the Dr to find. It was the first thing he mentioned to my family after surgery. Said everyone got a good laugh and he put the port right under the shamrock. Im thinking of getting a shamrock tattoo there later. So I guess Im really committed to this shrinking shamrock thing. TTFN -
OK so today overall was a bad day. It started out well, went to the gym 1 hour cardio I felt really good after. I has a poached egg and 1/4 of o piece of wholemeal bread toast. Lunch about 1/2 a cup of chicken salad (with a teaspoon of low fat mayo and 1 of low fat greek yoghurt) After noon I had 1 chocolate chip cookie, and 12 mini carale slices,i know i know, i shouldn't have done that, still in losing stage. Was out with the childre all afternoon came home starving. Had a few flakes of smoked salmon and a few spoonfulls of mashed potatoes, way to quickly and it all came back up again and I was sick, a horrible feeling of chest oppression and nausea, not nice at all. It might be TMI but just so others don't make my same mistake, always have healthy snacks that you can tolerate when you're out and about so as to 1) not eat fattening junk 2) not arrive home starving and eat too quickly! I won't be doing that again for sure!

June sleevers?
DallasSleeve replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone! My surgery was June 10th and I have to admit it was pretty rough! My Dr. said the surgery went really well except that they had trouble getting the camera scope down my esphogaus. Apparently, I have a little curve in it so they had to do a lot of wiggling. This led to a lot of chest pain afterwards! I was in recovery for 3 hours because I could not stop vomiting. And it was blue vomit- tmi, I know but did you know the dye they use in surgery was blue? The nausea did not stop there- I threw up and dry-heaved several times the next 2 days, including the barium swallow and the first dose of liquid pain meds. It REALLY hurt every time! I was definitely questioning my decision to have the surgery. BUT, now 6 days out, I am feeling so much better. I've only been on liquid tylenol so I was able to drive yesterday, go to church today and start feeling normal again. And I slept on my side last night! I am excited for this journey and to get to the mushy stage- I'm really having trouble getting in the protein. Can't wait to see how everyone else is doing! -
I don't know about anyone else, but I have experience some things with the new me that I did not expect!!! I was never told that the high Protein diet will give you constipation:blushing: (TMI I know) which can lead to hemorrhoids:blushing: (which is an experience all in its self if you have never had them!), your feet loose weight which makes all of your shoes loose:thumbdown:, and your rings start to fall off:mad0:... Anyone else have any surprise outcomes??? But I wouldn't change it for the world!

how 20lbs loss has changed my body so far :)
juzmejnee posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I may not see it so much yet in the mirror, but I can definitely feel a difference from losing the first 21 pounds off my body. I can walk up stairs without being out of breath, I can sleep on my back without being woken up from my gasping snores. My size 18 pants fit loosely while I was wearing size 22 my blood pressure has been normal ever since. This one is TMI, but after I clean myself after using the bathroom, I am not short of breath like I just walked up a hill. I noticed I'm smiling more, and that people are smiling at me. I guess I used to not have good eye contact lol. I can walk in a mall with my energized hubby n son and not have to stop n sit for a few minutes because I'm tired, and my back hurts. So far this is just a few things I've noticed. Can't wait to keep going ! Can't wait to see what 50lbs loss will do to my body! Thanks for listening! -
Did my tiny stomach growl or was that my imagination???
texaschick replied to 4me-and-my-girls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My tiny tummy has been very vocal! I had surgery on 6/8 and it started rumbling the next day. I tried protein shakes today for the first time and they went right through me (TMI). I am sorta hungry, but not overwhelmingly so. -
I am scheduled for june 8th- nyp. I just pray all goes well with my insurance and I can kick this infection under my arm. I know TMI but hey, im excited.
-
The towel wrapping was great and satisfying. I also go down stairs normally. At my heaviest I was going down sideways which was something I remember my mom doing. And if its not TMI I can wrap my legs and cross my ankles around my husband now during sex. I can't believe I just said that! Posting quickly before I can erase..

My prayers were answered! My youngest, DS has two minor procedures being done tomorrow at Children's Hospital (nothing serious). The prep today involves no eating, laxatives, etc. TMI. It's 11am and he's "starving" already :glare:(13 yr. old going through a growth spurt needs hourly food). The hospital doesn't give you the time of the procedure until the day before. So, I've been saying prayers that he would have a morning procedure...another 1/2 day of no food would not be pretty.:rolleyes2: The OR nurse just called and he's the first one scheduled tomorrow!:rolleyes3: 6:45am check-in...yay! A tiny miracle...but one all the same...he and I were doing the happy dance around the kitchen! I'm a little nervous:unsure: about the general anesthetic he's getting for the first time, hour and a half under in the OR...sounds like forever to me (he's got asthma and so many allergies)...please send prayers! We're having "jammie day" and playing games...distractions. I'm off to play (Wii)...

5 Days Op With A Few General Questions
cab0ad replied to cab0ad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
mews, thanks for the reply. I feel a difference in my attitude and pain every day. every day has gotten significantly better. The first 2 days I was miserable. I couldn't even sip Water without severe chest pain on every sip. I couldn't sit down or get up without pain. I couldn't even sleep in bed because it hurt too much to get up (and I couldn't get up by myself. hubby had to help me!). Day 4 was much better. the pain was more manageable and the chest pains when sipping were only there occasionally. today is day 5 for me and I feel even better. Today i have reached many milestones already. i can get out of bed myself with no help (still hurts, but at least I can do it!), I can reach to wipe after using the restroom (tmi...I know), I can drink without chest pains--they are much fewer and farther between! I can stand and sit without much pain. I feel SIGNIFICANTLY better today. I can't wait to see how much better I feel tomorrow! hang in there! Each day truly does bring more surprises that you will be thankful for! -
My Surgery is Tomorrow!! Dec/13/23
Courtnay replied to Courtnay's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
To be quite honest if I had known that the gastric sleeve was a real possibility for me I'm not sure I would of proceeded with the surgery. I really had not expected this outcome so my emotions are running wild. 😢 So worried it will increase issues with my acid reflux, as I heard it does cause that problem for many. I already have bad acid reflux so the thought of it being worse is concerning. Let's hope not though. I want to say though that things happen for a reason and maybe just maybe this outcome is what I needed and all I will need to be successful. I do worry about having to have another surgery down the line if this is not. I really do not want to go through with another surgery. 😩 But the good news is I stopped my pain medication yesterday! So I hope that means I won't need it anymore. I woke up a couple times last night, but I am not use to sleeping on my back. Always been a side and stomach sleeper lol. Please tell me that one day down the line I can return to those sleeping positions? 😴 Now this is tmi but I peed the bed last night. I read though that urine incontinence can be quite normal after a major surgery such as gastric sleeve. It thankfully only happened the once last night and that's all so far. Not sure if anyone else experienced this? but it scared me at first. My health anxiety started running wild. I will be letting my bariatric team know though just so they do. I already do have incontinence from my pregnancies, but I never peed the bed. Only with sneezing or coughing hard lol. I hope my experience does not scare anyone from having these surgeries. I was initially unsure about sharing as I did not want to scare anyone. It's been a wild ride lol but thankfully doing good otherwise. I even felt well enough yesterday to take my kiddos to get their hair cut, so things are looking up!! Thanks for checking in ChunkCat!! 🥰 -
just making sure this is normal...
Gwynni replied to Dragonsmate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 11 days post-op and still on liquids. I've had a number of embarrassing moments which have sometimes been uncontrollable - I now carry extra knickers with me just in case. I had irritable bowel prior to the surgery so it's not entirely new to me, but the frequency and urgency have definitely increased. I'm really hoping it eases once I start on puréed foods. Sorry for TMI! -
I so scared ti eat!
TEXASLADY52 replied to mrs.papa923's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery 6/10 and still cannot eat. I know within minutes if it is going to come back up. The most I can eat is 1-2 TBL. I usually cannot eat at night at all??? I can eat about a half of egg and it is ??? whether it will stay down. I get a terrible feeling and then thick mucus comes up (TMI). I do a little better if I don't drink thirty minutes before I eat and wait 45 minutes after I eat. I have to take little bity bites and chew chew chew! Wait between bites. Tried watermelon last night and I knew immediately that I had messed up with the first bite. I was able to get a few bites of potato Soup from Scholtzsky's down today at lunch and so far so good! -
Oh please forgive me for this post! Had anyone else had the problem with their bm smelling way different and yellow? I KNOW TMI but its really gross and I'm concerned.
