If you are thinking of a revision or the sleeve (boring)....
LisaNLasVegas posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Here are my quick stats: Lap-Band in Monterrey, Mexico in 2003. Over 11 years I lost 100 pounds and gained back 40. Revision to Gastric Sleeve in Las Vegas August 5, 2014 When I was first researching about a revision surgery and the sleeve, I read about so many complications. I learned a lot about what could happen. For those of you who are debating surgery, here is my success story: My experience has been great. I have NO REGRETS. I had my revision surgery from the lap-band to a gastric sleeve in one operation. In fact, it was done as an outpatient. I arrived at the hospital at 6am and was on my couch recovering at about 4:30 pm. Since the first day I was able to drink Water and a ready-made Protein shake. It was slow drinking, but had no issues. I took my pain medication for 2 days, only because I was scared that if I didn't take them, I would have pain. I didn't. I would say the worst pain I felt on a scale of 1-10 was about a 4. I slept on my side after about 3 nights. I took a shower the day after my surgery and walked a lot. On about day 3 I got the gas pains, but took Gas X and they only were bad for about an hour. I had no problem getting in my 60 grams of protein - in fact, I usually had 80 grams (2 shakes and one powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup broth) On day 10, my Protein Shakes started to disagree with me - well, my intestines disagreed with them! As soon as I started drinking, I could feel my intestines filling with water and would have to run to the bathroom. TMI I know, but it happened. 14 days after surgery at my 2 week follow up appointment, I told my doc that the protein shakes were giving me issues and his response was to stop drinking them and "let's get you on solid foods." I haven't had one since (almost 2 weeks ago). Since then, I have been eating real food and I feel great! I have mostly had softer foods like deli turkey or eggs but last night I had salmon and it was great. I feel better today 25 days after surgery than I have felt in the last 2 years. I have lost 25 pounds but it must look like more because everyone I see is asking me if I have lost weight (I don't think I look like I have, but that's another issue.....) I have energy like never before. I sleep better. I feel "normal" when I go out to eat. I sometimes want the junk, but I am able to resist. My stomach has NEVER growled and I don't feel hungry. Sometimes I feel "empty," but I can wait to eat. I am a boring patient. I LOVE being boring! Anyone else out there proud to be boring? -
Today is the first day I got on the scale since my surgery. I only weigh once a week. I learned not to weight every day since I started the dieting and exercise program in May. It seems like most of the gas should be gone from what has been going on I have passed a lot of gas (TMI) but I am just so discouraged. Shouldn't have any water weight left either. Lol. I use the bathroom all the time. I hope you are right. I have a doctor appt next Wednesday. I guess I will stay off the scale until I have to get on the scale then, I sure hope I lose because I will be very depressed if I don't.

VVV, I was sleeved on 8/25 and I regretted it for about two days after. I was in pain. It does get better. You start to realize what gives you gas, what you can tolerate and what to avoid. I've learned everything except broth makes me gassy. Lol. TMI. Each day will get better. You had major surgery. Your body needs to heal itself. You've been through a trauma. But, you took the first major step in getting the surgery. Keep your chin up.

Hello all, looks like I'm the wimp of the bunch. I've slept for 72 hrs. I was very dizzy and just gave up walking. I have suffered from dizziness in the past. Gas is bad and abdominal pain a close second. Gas coming out slowly and today I made it to my living room. I've sipped some liquids and also found burping after helps. Not to ask TMI but has anyone had a bowel movement? I can actually see improvement so I'm not giving up. Good luck to all of you guys.

New to the process - help?
Bring It On replied to natalie132's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Everyone is definitely different. Depends on the surgeon and your insurance company. Even people on here with the SAME ins. company have slightly different requirements, depending on what part of the country you are in. I am Tricare (military). I said "YES" to the program on July 7. Since then, I have had a nutrition counsel, exercise physiology counsel, psychological counsel, and after everything was turned in to insurance, they wanted a Pulmonary Function Test, which I had today. My last nutrition counsel is tomorrow. Hoping my ins will give me the thumbs up by the end of the week. The only thing I would suggest is the more co-morbidities that you have, the better. (Diabetes, HBP, high chole., sleep apnea) the easier the process. I have Diabetes, so I had my PCP write a letter of medical necessity to my ins. company, and I think that helped quite a bit. Lastly, the higher your BMI, the longer you may have to be required to have a special diet BEFORE surgery. This process shrinks your liver, so it can be retracted easier to get to your stomach. I know, TMI. Good luck to you. Keep us posted!!! -

@@georgia72886 sorry about your old habits sneaking back!!! don't know how much weight you successfully lost you were loosing ok? but then stalled for quite a wihile?? gave in to old eating habits because you got frustrated?? doesn't really matter the why i guess glad you know you want and need to get back on track people that are in your similar boat (don't worry you won't sink) frequently will do 3 Protein shakes a day (like the good ol' days ) this will give you a good jump start, make you feel better to get on program its been awhile, do you remember all the basic rules?? Kathys' Refresher Course 101!!!! sttop drinking 15-30 minutes before you eat never drink with your meals (people have been shot for less ) must drink at least 64 oz of Water after you eat wait 45-60 minutes before you drink always take smallll bites moderation eat with small utensils, take a bite of food put fork down eat slllllowly chew food well before you take another bite always eat protein first (ie dense protein like chicken is great cuz it makes you fuller faster) watch your carbs - SUPPOSED to be only around 40 (that can be a challange) 60 gr of protein is important try and exercise - even walking is better that sitting on your tush i can't relate to raising a youngun while you are trying to eat properly it must be very hard that being said - whatever good food you are required/need to eat - that would be great for him to eat too he is still very young - so stand firm , even if he's screaming - try not to give him or you junk we all know the rate of obesity for kids going up and up - making fat adults not pretty working 12 hr shiftsgood must be stressful and hard!!! luv my yogurt, mix in some fresh blueberries with granaola spinkled on top I JUST told my neighbor yesterday the yogurt tastes so good - almost like having an orgasm TMI? eating junk food??? KNOCK IT OFF we both know you can get back on program and continue to be the success i know you are I believe in you you should too!!! (believe in yourself) now you go girl - show us what you are made of!!! good luck kathy -
August Sleevers Check In
Karen Scott replied to Sweet Pea STL Sleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it will come. Had surgery 8/29/14 I had a bm 4 days later but not the norm, it was runny (tmi) now I can pass down there freely. My problem is I don't know wen I am full so I drink a lot of liquids so I don't get dehydrated. A lot of spasms though. And medication makes me halleucinate. Stopped taking it. -
I've heard a lot of people talk about how after surgery they were deathly nauseous because of the "anesthesia". I've had at least 4 other surgeries before my vsg which is coming up quick (9/8/14) and have never experienced nausea from going under. So my question is, is the nausea actually caused by the anesthesia or the pain medication that is administered?..That one I can believe as I was nauseous and throwing up the whole labor and birth of my daughter (TMI) after they gave me my epidural.

JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP
Ree224 replied to SMED0308's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Diridon, thank you for posting this link... wow i never knew that about the colors. I thought I was drinking enough, but I'm not usually at the top color. tmi= i'm usually the 2nd or third color which indicates i should be drinking even more than i already am. doesn't seem possible, but i'll work at it. today was my 2nd post op visit, where I asked the doc about my stall - I lost 21 pounds right away and have been stuck at 23 pounds lost for the last 4 of the 5 weeks since my surgery. He asked me about my exercise and i told him and he then proceeded to poopoo me and said a. you are only 5 weeks out you shouldn't be looking at things that way at this point and b. as long as i continue with a good exercise regimen the pounds will shed off of me and to not worry about this at all. (nota bene: my ticker is going by my highest weight on record, which is why it says 33 lbs lost. the doctor/official number is 10 lbs less than that because they are using a weight from a preop office visit that's lower than my highest recorded weight.) which is good, but then i look at everyone on here that are 4-5 weeks out and I'm seeing 30+, 40+, 50+ and sometimes even as much as 69 pounds lost in a month since surgery and I can't help but compare myself to that. Which I think I need not to do. that said, it's hard. I love reading everyone's posts here and i'm glad to be a part of this july sleever's forum. thanks for being here guys. Do not get discouraged. I had the quick weight loss in the beginning now, not so much. When I mentioned to the doctor about not losing as fast he stated that healthy weight loss is a 1 or 2 lbs a week. It gives your body time to adjust to the loss and the skin to tone better. I know it's hard, but I am going to have faith and keep true to the plan and I believe it will come off. Best of luck and congrats on the weight you have lost. : ) -

Hi Jen! You just described my feelings exactly. We are very similar in height and weight as well. I am day 2 post op... Although I've had some post -op issues, the surgery itself went well. Maybe TMI, but, after they took out the catheter I was obviously expected to urinate in the bathroom ( I may also mention that I am on the heaviest menstral cycle I'v e had in over a year). Well everything went well until I realize I couldn't bend to wipe myself. It was rather eye-opening and embarrassing to have the nurses' aid wipe for me. And the second time I went to pee, I roughed through the wiping part, but my underwear fell to the floor and I could t pick them up. Again, mortifying. Luckily my nurse was super understanding to made me feel a bit better. So far the best information I could give you is to advocate for yourself. If you're in pain, tell them. If you need help in the bathroom, tell them. There is a reason you're in the hospital and the nurses are there to help. - Angela

IBS Attack 8 months post sleeve
Mommysonadiet posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I had my first IBS attack last night at 9PM after I drank a kids cup Lil Angel from smoothie King and had 1/2 scoop of greek frozen yogurt. I have had these items before and was fine... I thought my appendix was going to burst or my intestines were inflamed from having diarrhea for the last few days (TMI sorry)...I haven't felt pain like this since the week after my surgery! Thankfully 1 hour ago, almost 20 hours after the pain started, I am feeling well enough to get out of bed. Has this happened to anyone else? -
Well I found something that does not agree with my new tummy. Premier protein strawberry flavored. I took about 4 sips and my tummy felt sore and now I'm in the bathroom an hour later. Tmi.
-
First off thank you for responding. And oh no you give me all the tmi. Lol I'm one to research everything and although I hear everyone's story I can't help but feel scared. I just want to hit a fast forward button and get to a couple months after my surgery date
-
I know TMI but darn Aunt Flo is visiting and all I am craving is everything salt related! I broke down and had salty food last night. One happy thing is that I am back at it with logging now just to get that motivation a moving to get back into exercising!
-
I had the same problem this month too only difference is I wanted chocolate. I gave into the craving and now I am done. Sometimes you just need to indulge and be satisfied! Like @Dragonsmate said, don't beat yourself up. This too shall pass.

Oh my goodness I can completely relate to your feelings. They were identical to mine up until 2 weeks ago. I was just sleeved on this past Wednesday and I feel amazing. Sore, yes, but mentally I finally feel free of my cravings and good obsession. Literally it's like food, cravings, and guilt were this massive weight on my shoulders. Now? Completely different. I'm not hungry. I have no cravings. I don't particularly mind that I can only drink Protein shakes, broth, and sugar free Jello. Food has turned into something I merely need to work into my day. Not the focus of my day. It is super early for me but I now am 100% sure this was the tool I needed to overcome my obesity. I'm sure it will get more difficult to resist my favorites but by then I know I'll have enough positive momentum to keep on heading in the right direction. And can I tell you how amazing it is to get on the scale and always see a slightly lower number? I've never had that! I'm still bloated and constipated from surgery (sorry for the TMI) but I have already lost 10 pounds from my pre-op diet to now. It's so scary, yes, but it will change your life. Just prepare for a tough pre-op diet which is horrible for the first few days. By day 5 of the diet I could already see that my cravings were going. It was like the diet started to reset my mentality and surgery finished it. Good luck!

Well things got complicated Friday night. Started having bright red blood in my stools (sorry if TMI) which surgeon said was fresh bleeding. Went to ER and waited almost 4 hours to be seen. Admitted Saturday morning with acute hemorrhage but no transfusion was needed. Bleeding stopped on its own and they sent me home Sunday afternoon. Glad to be home! -
TMI but it fits the conversation ;0) My breathe and body odors are the same but my BM's are horrid! Very foul. I don't know if its due to the increase in stomach acid or protein, but they are definitely stinky. Also, I'm more prone to eatery stools than anything else. Yep, TMI....;0)

August Sleevers Check In
amorga replied to Sweet Pea STL Sleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Post-op day five and I'm hoping the incision pain gets better soon. I practically have to give myself diarrhea (TMI, sorry) in order to have a BM cause it's too painful to push. This may sound crazy to some, but I'm so looking forward to the puree stage so I can get more protein in with less volume. It takes me 4 hours to get down a smoothie of Greek yogurt and a half cup of milk. I feel I spend all day trying to get my protein in that it doesn't leave much time for fluids. One thing I'm super happy about is that I've lost 4.5 lbs since surgery day. Wishing everyone a speedy recovery! -
I'm out of the 270s and I just wanted to pat myself on the back out loud. I've been really struggling with this 3 month pre-op weight loss. Every day I fight the demons that tell me it's ok to eat more, I deserve it/I need it. Every day I battle with hunger, something I've never let myself feel for very long in the past. It has never been so very hard for me to lose weight before, because I always did WW, and if I was hungry I ate something, even if it was veggies or a fruit. Now I'm working so hard on getting the habits my nutritionist told me I need for post-op, like not eating between meals, and limiting the volume of the food I eat instead of stuffing myself with veggies. I woke up this morning knowing that last night's intense struggle with my demons would pay off. I hopped on the scale, naked, before Breakfast, after pooping (I know, tmi, sorry) as I always do, and eureka! 269.8. I started the journey over 280. I am blessed with a man who has gone through his own weight loss battle (lost over 100 lbs w/o surgery) and is filled with patience for listening to me as I go through my own private war. I would not have gotten through the night without ordering Pat's Pizzeria's turkey club sandwich with extra mayo, waffle fries and a Pepsi without him. Talking it out helps me tremendously. I am in this to win this, and now I'm convinced I'm going to do it.

All of mine was gone til this past Sunday when I decided that was it and I must indulge in.......well,sex. So then it started hurting a little more but is almost gone again. TMI, I know.
