    NSV shout outs

So it's a half nsv/ half sv...I'm only 20 lbs from a "normal" weight/bmi...I don't remember the last time I could say that. It's funny because I am really quite pleased with my weight now, my personal goal is just 3 pounds more, and now I am a bit curious...just a nice "dilemma" to have I just realized I'm posting in the wrong forum...I just saw nsvs and got excited lol.

Oh I know EXACTLY where you are coming from! I have not had anything like you experienced happen since I have had surgery (and I hope everything checks out OK for you!). I have lost over 200 pounds, and I know all too well the way I was treated “differently” as a morbidly obese patient! Earlier this month I had to go in for my first Colonoscopy (I am now 51). It was SO NICE to be treated like a ‘normal’ patient!! I think the only things that made me stand out was that I got really cold and I was dehydrated after the prep so my blood pressure was low and they had to give me IV Fluids. I would guess that these are two things they see in a LOT of patients – probably more that are close to a normal BMI (which I am). I am sure we all have stories that we could share about the horrible treatment by the medical establishment BEST NSV that I have read in a really long time! Thank you so much for sharing!! Carol

Glad you are doing better. Hope the monitor helps find the cause so it won't happen again. I can completely understand how this can be an NSV. Thanks for sharing. pam

How can you tell you lost weight?

Here is a NSV 7 days post op- this am in my closet for the heck of it I grabbed a pair of size 20 Capri jeans I couldn't get over my hips let alone ZIP 4 weeks ago. Guess what? I'm wearing them right now!!! And they look good on me!!!! Yahoo!
  5. scale sudoku BP Getting rid of stuff that I don't need (clothes too - NSV).Anything that just add clutter (books, VHS tapes, knick knacks, extra bedding, extra plates/pots/pans). Its like extreme spring cleaning - simplifying my house - is my excuse!
  6. I lost 22 pounds on my two week preop diet. Then it took 3 months to lose another 17 pounds after surgery. But Unlike so many others that whine about being "slow losers", I was thrilled. I'd lost 39 pounds for sh it's sake! How was that not awesome?! You really need to embrace this as an entire new lifetime of weight loss/maintenance. You shouldn't have any time-related deadlines. Just keep on plan, listen to your body, make adjustments to your nutrition as needed, and enjoy the NSVs. If you need numbers to concentrate on, make those numbers your Protein and Fluid goals. take your Vitamins. Use the next few months to learn new eating habits and coping mechanisms that will carry you through a lifetime of hardships to come. Don't worry what the scale says or especially what other people's scales say.

If you don't already, carry some trail mix or string cheese and a bottle of Water everywhere you go. I used to faint when I was normal sized (ah, to be thin again... soon!) because I was hypoglycemic. Blood sugar would crash, and down I'd go. It happened with some regularity until I brought Snacks with me. If you feel faint, eat a few bites and it should pass. This is if I'm correctly understanding the issue. I'm glad you had a positive experience with the EMTs and lack of embarrassment - I definitely understand! But fainting can be dangerous depending on where you are. I've heard of folks suffering from fairly serious head injuries from fainting in the bathroom and hitting the sink or tub, for example. You can't control how you fall. It's like one second you're standing up, then your vision clouds and hearing goes into a vacuum, and boom, you're awake on the floor surrounded by panicked faces. Congrats, though, on the NSV!
  9. Cheeky!!!!!!!!! It's the thought of you dear boy in that strip of Lycra that has addled my poor brain! Anyway, at 59 1/2 I'm allowed to talk about the weather. I'm practicing to be a miserable old git. But hang on, a NSV for me this week-bought a beautiful, black leather biker jacket in a UK size 14. Yay!!!!!!!! Looks fab with black jeans and slightly high black boots. I haven't had the boots on for about 9 years as they couldn't get up my calves. I'm so pleased! I'm having fun with my clothes now instead of hiding the rolls of suety, lardy rolls of flab under track suits. What my husband doesn't know cos I've hidden them, is that there is a new pair of black, very long boots waiting to be worn once the legs get a wee bit thinner. Must go and get some new, sleek black leggings to wait with them. I wish I had had surgery years ago. I am in the process of growing old VERY disgracefully. By the way, have managed to swim half a mile every morning this week. Ain't life grand. Yes, I've got some real crap going on in the background of my life but my slowly diminishing silhouette doesn't half cheer me up. Happy Easter bariatric pals x
  10. I wished I'd known how easy it would all be. Luckily I was blessed to have no major complications. But even the preop diet, surgery and anesthesia, postop diet, stalls, diarrhea, constipation, food intolerances, learning how to eat, eating healthy, being able to control head hunger, etc has been much less dramatic than most of the posts I read on these forums. Sure, it takes effort, but if you are committed and truly embrace the WLS lifestyle with a good attitude it is not that bad. The fun and exciting NSVs far outweighed anything negative I went through. I also wished I'd known I would get gallstones so I could have had my gall bladder removed during my VSG.

Glad you are ok!! Totally get the NSV aspect of the situation. It is a good feeling to be "normal size" and not have to worry about the small things. Take care your yourself!!
  12. This is weirdly a great NSV! I was in a car accident before my sleeve surgery and had two broken ankles and refused to go in the ambulance. I was horrified thinking about getting on the stretcher and the EMTs lifting me up. 130 lbs less I wouldn't worry about it now.

Glad you are feeling better and I can completely see how you would consider it an NSV. I had a similar experience when I was in a car accident in December. Wasn't self-conscious about my weight when bystanders and EMTs tended to me.

I do believe it because you have an honest face. That is quite an inside-out NSV, but I get it. Isn't it amazing that some past experiences resonate today so that we weave them into current events? I'm glad you're fine today, but think you should have your own doctor give you a look-over. We're not supposed to faint for no apparent reason.

Ummmmmmmm... Congratulations?? I mean, the subject is awful... But I really do see your NSV... Therefore, yes - congratulations!!!
  16. So for the first time in my life (57 years old) I passed out. Fainted, face planted...whatever you want to call it. I was with my sister on line waiting to purchase tickets to a show we want to see. Was doing fine...my sister, who is obese, was sweating and had to take off her coat. This is what happens to her when we're just walking quickly, which we were. Doesn't happen to me anymore. I stood on line with her with my jacket closed and not a drop of perspiration (thank you lapband!!) Suddenly I got light-headed and dizzy. Sounded like everything was under Water and told sis I needed to sit down. That was the last thing I remember till I woke up with sis in my face calling my name. The theater manager called 911 even though I asked them not to. The EMTs come running in, take off my coat, put a BP cuff on and ask me questions. I know they're checking my cognitive function. They knew I was OK when they asked me to get in the ambulance so they could do a quick ECG and I said OK as long as my sister stayed on line for the tickets. So..here's the NSV. First one...no embarrassment over this. No feeling like ugh..the fat woman is sick. She must have done something to herself. No one staring at me..only concern on their faces. Second NSV..Being able to climb into the ambulance. Never had to do that before and I know that when I was heavy, it would have been impossible. Third...no worry that the BP cuff would fit. Fourth..no worry when they asked me to sit on the 'bed' which was really just a shelf with a plastic cushion. Fifth...and truly the best NSV...the relief that my weight would not be an issue or even be mentioned. I'm normal sized now and that's what everyone sees. So I'm fine today and will wait to see if my doctor wants me to come in. I did tell the nurse what happened and she said she'd let me know if I need to come in. But that's not really the point. The point is that I felt like a normal person and was treated like a normal person in a rather unusual situation. Those of you who are/were morbidly obese as I used to be will understand where I'm coming from.

    NSV - shorts! (xposted)

where I work I can dress in jeans/shorts/etc so I have been wearing clothes that I bought 10-12 years ago hoping to wear. Now they are falling down, I look like one of the teenage boys will all of his boxers exposed if I am not careful. I told hubby yesterday I have got to get a pair or two of shorts. I proceeded to go back through the smallest jeans/shorts I have and I can wear all of them but one pair!!! To me these are the best NSVs. The scale hasn't moved but I know my body is changing because my clothes are fitting differently and everyone keeps complimenting my weight loss and that I must have lost more weight (since Christmas). Not! I have lost around 4-5 lbs since before Christmas so the inches must be coming off. I will take that.

How can you tell you lost weight?

The local fast food restaurants go out of business. Your dog gets fatter (now that there are leftovers). Your scale doesn't make a groaning sound when you stand on it. You have a fancy designer label on the back of your jeans instead of "Pass" and "Don't Pass" over the back pockets. But seriously, at first you may see yourself as the same, but people will be noticing the difference. Your clothes will fit looser, you will have many NSVs, you will not mind having your picture taken or looking in the mirror or weighing yourself, you will have more energy; the list goes on and on.

    NSV - shorts!

I've noticed my skin getting kind of loose on my legs and arms. I think I'm just not far enough along yet for it to be as bad as it could be. I try not to worry about it too much even though it does get to me sometimes. Your NSV is a great one! Congrats on 90 lbs gone

    NSV - shorts!

You look great. I wish I looked like that, the skin hangs so far down it's gross, but very grateful for my sleeve and my 90lb weight loss. My biggest nsv, i think is fitting into booths that I could not fit into last year.
  21. I was sleeved on 9/30/15 at my highest weight of 205. As of yesterday I've lost 50 lbs and am down to 153.8. I still have 27 pounds to go to reach my goal and I'm hoping I get there by my one year surgiversary. Even as a kid I remember being too self conscious to wear shorts. I ventured into the juniors department at Belk today and tried on these pink scallop shorts. I'm still not 100 % comfortable in them but I'm hoping I will be by summertime Sometimes the number on the scale doesn't move and sometimes it's so easy to get discouraged. Celebrating non-scale victories helps me keep everything in perspective. What are YOUR favorite NSVs? (cross posted in post op forum)

    Taking off my fat suit

This update feels very poignant. I started this thread in May last year laid on a sunbed at typhoon lagoon whilst on holiday in Florida. It was 9 days before I saw my consultant and 23 days before I had my sleeve surgery. Today, 10 months later, I am again laid on a sunbed in typhoon lagoon whilst on holiday in Florida - and life is incredibly different in many ways! I am fitter, healthier, happier, have more self confidence and self esteem, few if any aches or pains and notably the day I left for Florida I weighed in at 183lbs - 98lbs lighter than I was when I wrote my first post last year!!! I was really hoping to have hit the 100lb loss but you know what, I know I will so really it doesn't matter and I'm just celebrating the achievement This journey has been incredible and I am so very glad I took the decision and had surgery. I had to be brave, I had many fears and worries, but I needn't have had as I have been blessed with an uneventful experience with everything happening smoothly and text book. My weight loss has been slowish but steady and my approach to eating has been moderation rather than deprivation and I am happy with both my lifestyle and progress to date. Being in Florida almost 100lb light has been a real eye opener. The heat for starters seems so much less intense without all the extra fat! I have even had to wear a cardi a few times due to being cold and had the heating on at night rather than air conditioning! Yesterday was a real milestone and NSV in a big way. We spent the day at Busch gardens. Last year I avoided going there as I knew the harness for the rides wouldn't fit me and I was really sad as I love that park and was desperate to ride the new Falcons fury at the time. Well...yesterday I rode all the big rides, and in a standard seat with plenty of extra room And slack on the seat belts!!!! And it felt A-MAZ-ING!!!!! I have never ridden in a standard seat, always needed the one for bigger people. But yesterday I was just one of the crowd, blending in and unremarkable. That's felt sooooo good. And the Falcons fury...well the ride was good but the thrill was more in fitting in the standard seat Another thing about being in Florida is the food. I normally couldn't get enough and the huge portion sizes was always what I loved! This time I look at portion sizes and can't believe I ever ate all that! I wondered if I would feel deprived or like I am missing out but I really don't. I'm ordering what I like, whilst still being mindful of Protein and drinking Water, but as I said my approach is moderation so whilst on holiday I am having treats...but when I'm full that's it and I move on, no over stuffing myself to the point I can't hardly move! I still have a way to go. My stretch ultimate goal is 149lb but my realistic goal is 161lb. I have a lot of loose skin which I knew would be the case and I will likely have plastics which I will discuss with my surgeon at my 1 year check. Progress from here is slow going I know, but I'm ok with that, it's a lifestyle not a race and I know I will get there. I also know I have to remain ever vigilant. I am an emotional eater and that hasn't changed. Hunger is also making a return at times. So I have to keep on top of these things but I believe I can and will. Tomorrow is a day at magic kingdom for my daughter to meet all the princesses. Then Friday I will be shopping shopping shopping!!! I can't wait to shop in regular size stores and treat myself to all the things I have longed to buy in the past when in Florida but they didn't fit! This year there's no stopping me!!! Life is good ️
  24. I'm on day 9 of pre-op diet and I just had my first major NSVs this morning!!! Today, I put on a pair of grey ponte pants that I bought in the middle of February for an interview. They were TIGHT when I bought them, like just this side of fitting, and now they're falling off! I keep having to pull them up, they're loose in the thighs, and I can pull the waist out a good 2-3"! Also, when my fiancee gave me a hug this morning, she put her arms around me and went, "where did you go???" For the first time, she was able to not only completely encircle my waist, but interlace her fingers at the small of my back!! Such a great motivation to continue on this liquid diet and stay focused! So excited!
