You will probably need a sleep study, EGD, and psych appt for sure as well as medically supervised weight loss classes. But I know my doctor said that some preoperative appts had to be within 6 mos or 3 mos of surgery date. So wait on psych evaluation. But get a sleep study scheduled asap bc this takes the longest.

4 Days Post-op....feeling really depressed and lots of anxiety...
KatFight replied to DMF3296's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. It’s actually not uncommon for some WLS patients to feel depressed or anxious after surgery. As I deal with both, my nurse practitioner has been monitoring me closely. So far I’ve been well. Over time, WLS surgery can help relieve depression. So, be gentle with yourself. It can feel overwhelming bc you want to do everything perfectly. I napped daily for weeks. My biggest focus was (and still is) getting protein, fluid, and moving. I certainly wasn’t close to my 69 grams of protein initial goal nor my fluids goal. In fact, I still work hard to get it in and my surgery was 12/28/17. I saw my surgeon today and she is very happy with my progress. Of course, if your exhaustion is severe, you may need to have your iron and b-12 levels checked. Rest assured that what you’re experiencing is not uncommon. You know your body and should be concerned, please call your surgeon. That’s what he/she is there for. I’m happy to hear that you’ve moved about. Your body needs rest too and it’s perfectly fine to give it what it needs. Sending you [emoji295]️ [emoji304] and [emoji882]. -
I am 10 days out, was doing good then 4 days ago hit 217.5 only to have been stuck here! I am getting really mad that it's not moving!!! I can't work out but have been walking I can say I'm not getting my 60-80 grams of protein bc it makes me so queasy. I am however trying to supplement with food as possible. Idk I really hope this starts moving again

What were your insurance company requirements for approval?
Peacedove replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have BS of CA because the company I work for is based in southern CA. Otherwise, I'd probably be in the same boat. Several gals at the home office have had breast reduction surgery...basically, they wanted a lift after loosing a little weight, and the insurance also paid for that! I am going to do that next, if I don't loose all my boobs with the weight loss. I still need to find out if they will cover the fills, and follow ups. I don't see why they wouldn't. Good luck to you all and I hope your insurance is a good to you as mine was! -

Hi Everyone! My first appointment with the nutritionist, doctor and psych eval is on May 27th. I have Blue Cross PPO and I am wondering if you have to have any documentation from your PCP. I am going to a Center of Excellence and when I talked to the insurance company they said that they would pay 100% of a COE, but I am a little worried because I had to fire my previous PCP due to the fact that he almost killed my son when he did not diagnose his Type 1 Diabetes (his bc was 829 and he had all the signs!) My new PCP doesn't believe in lap-band. I have only been going to him for a year. I hope the insurance company does not need a letter from him. Also, my BMI is 39.1 right now. I know that is under the usual 40, but I do have a couple of the co-morbidities. -

CC.... Blue Shield varies DRASTICALLY from state to state. I'm told that Alabama requires 6 months of doc supervised dieting, as does GA. But I have BS of CA and although I live in GA, they give me all the same benefits as a policy holder in CA. So, they approved me in 4 days without the 6 month dieting! It was crazy unbelievable. I got evaluations from the shrink, the dietician, and the surgeon gave the medical and surgical evaluation....after I'd only seen him once. I also happened to have a letter from my orthopedic surgeon in favor. They approved me with no questions asked. As for getting your Primary Care's approval. NOT necessary with a PPO. Just make sure you pick a bariatric surgeon that is in your PPO network. I have to drive 3 hours to get to mine. But BS is also saying they will reimburse travel expenses because of this. -

I am SO mad!!!! You would not believe what someone at my insurance company emailed me with!!!! I spent ALL day yesterday driving 6 hours to and from my surgeons office and the hospital to do pre op testing and when I got home last night, BS of CA sent me an email that stated I had not been approved for this procedure!!!! I was so mad that I called and got some young gal who didn't know anything and couldn't find my approval. She told me to call again today. Today I called and got hold of a woman that took 10 minutes to find it, but DID find it. She then told me that she was going to find the person that sent me the email and call them to straighten them out. I was asking them about travel reimbursements and instead they sent me into this emotional whirlwind. I'm so mad.:wink2: -
I need to order some vitamins what all do you guys take?
lifeisjustbeginning2011 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ordered some liquid fruit flavored Vitamin called Reviva. It is sold at costco and Sam's (but my Sam's didn't have it). http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11622501&search=reviva&Mo=2&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search〈=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=reviva&Ntt=reviva&No=1&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1 There is a Multivitamin kind and a calcium kind. I ended up buying from costco.com because I couldn't find it locally. I'm not a Costco member, but I was able to buy through their website and pay a small premium (maybe $1.50 total). Hasn't arrived yet but I'm hopeful that I'll like it -
Hey guys. So I'm new to this forum... I was originally going to get rny but decided on the vsg. I am scheduled for surgery may 20. Anywho i was curious how bc plays a role in surgery before and after? I know it's virtually ineffective with rny but what about vsg?? Also did you ladies have to stop before surgery because of risk for blood Clots?

I totally agree! I refused to drink the recommended Premier Protein drinks. I am alternating Primal Protein mix and Jay Robb grass fed mixes. They have stevia but I feel that is the least of the enemies. Glad to see someone else shares my concerns! Sent from my SM-G900T using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi! I had my lower body lift (360) on July 16 so I am just under 3 weeks post op. The first few days were really painful and I opted to stay a second night in the hospital to get stronger pain medicine. Now that I'm home I'm still taking my pain meds every 4-6 hours. But I can stand up straighter now. I used a rolling walker for almost 2 weeks bc you have to stay bent over initially. I also got a shower chair and still use that bc I get tired easily. My swelling has gone down but the dr said I am still swollen several inches. I wear a garment provided for me by my dr that looks like a crotchless wetsuit. That way you don't have to take it off and on so much to use the bathroom. I'm used to it but it does get itchy. My dr was very up front that this would hurt and she didn't lie. Also I'm not allowed to use any core muscles which includes using my arms to get up and down. My family helps me every time I need to get up and/ or turn every 2 hours to prevent incision from opening up. That's around the clock. I have slept in the recliner since I got home. My girls (19&23) take turns sleeping on the couch. We set alarms to turn me every 2 hours. My appetite has been really low and I've been really nauseous. My sleeve had complications so my stomach gets unhappy easily. Plus the garment is really tight and eating just isn't comfortable. I will take some more pics tomorrow and post. I've been taking them daily but they show a lot lol. Oh, one surprise is that my "lady part" got a lift as well. Lol. Even though I'm still swollen I can see a huge difference on how I look and I absolutely love it!! I workout 6-7 days per week normally and the extra skin was making frustrated that I didn't look how I felt. My dr removed about 6+pounds of skin. Stats: Pre weight loss wt 275lbs Pre plastic wt 135lbs I weighed last week 130lbs I'll be curious where my weight settles once the swelling is gone. I don't really want to lose any more. Yesterday was my first day to venture out of the house and go to a movie and walk around a few stores. I was exhausted when we got home and more swollen today. The hardest part is getting in and out of a vehicle. My husband is really strong and can easily lift me but he's on crutches w a broken leg bc we had a motorcycle accident 2 nights before my surgery. Stupid plan to go riding so close to a non refundable surgery lol. I'm lucky I have adult kids to help me. Good luck! Holly

I don't post often but lurk almost daily. I am almost 2 years out, lost 50 lbs the first year and 30 so far this year. I have always been a slow looser and I have to work hard at it. There have been 2 times when I stalled for 2 months or so. (total bummer, but I did not let it get to me, I kept going) Anyway recently I was laid off from my job.....last time I was not working was in 1983 or so, so this is completely forien to me. (and scary) But I have learned that anytime you make a major change in your life it is easier to change other things, I guess because it is in the air. So I did not have to eat Breakfast before I went to work cause I did not have to go to work, there was no standard "lunch time" either. So I was not eating because I was not hungry and my scheduled eating times went out the window. I AM NOW ONLY EATING WHEN I AM HUNGRY, NOT BASED ON MY SCHEDULE FOR EATING! I know a lot of us have talked about the clean plate club and all, but now it has hit me in the face. And what about the 3 squares a day? I have come to the realization that my estimate of what one normal person needs to eat in a day is seriously to much. I would like to see laid out on a table how much say a 150 lb person should eat in a day, and how often. After thinking about this alot I also realized that I have had the idea of three square meals a day drilled into my head and that it is just not necessary. Not my idea of a meal anyway.:nervous And then I recall my little sister being made to sit at the dinner table till it was bed time because she did not finish her food. I had finished mine and I am very large, but my sister now at 45 years old is still 120 lbs and had 2 children. I love my sister and we are best of friends now but it was really hard growing up overweight with 6 very normal brothers and sisters. My point in all of this is that this revelation has now helped me begin to loose again, 5 lbs last week! In fact over the holidays at one point I began feeling ill and could not figure out what it was, well I was not eating enough because of everything going on. I had not had enough time to eat, I had to start stopping myself to take time to eat so I do not get that low again. I have always kept myself well fed I had never felt this way before. The moral of this story is to change it up. (my thinking, my routine and my mothers rules) This has helped me learn more about my eating habits and begin to turn the tide on my unrealistic food thoughts. Hope this will help someone else, best to all. Trish

Yeah don't listen to people who tell you to stop losing weight. I can see if you were in mid onederland or something but 300 lbs. Yeah it's bizarre that they'd say that. Plain and simple they are full of it and just want to keep you from succeeding either that or they're being phony. I'm relatively new to the weight loss surgery game but I think life has a messed up way of trying to bring you down when you're winning and people can be down right evil. Just ignore them or make them feel stupid if it annoys you that much but you keep going toward your goal and don't let anyone's bs hold you back. Do not listen to them I don't think they have good intentions. I think they're just trying to throw wrenches in your plan.

Banana. You did not deserve the unprofessional scolding. Could your hormonal issue be treated by a family practitioner? All of us have experience people that value appearance. It's fed to us daily. We are bombarded with the message we are not good enough just to sell us a products. The only validation you need comes from you. The rest of the world can bite it.

Blame it on dealing with life without food numbness, but my tolerance for BS seems to be at an all time low right now. Getting crap from my mother who expects me to live in her head. I had the audacity to have my Saturday planned with my friend after my morning dental appointment, and didn't know she was thinking (not saying, just thinking) of asking me to run to the mall for her before a candy sale ended at one pm today. This was at noon today. She's openly hostile and accusing me of never helping her. Good God. Getting crap from the not-soon-enough-to-be-ex who's texting me again because he's pissed that some mail addressed to both of us actually got forwarded to my new address and he couldn't intercept it and hold it hostage. What part of "no contact" does a narcissist not get? Oh yeah, all of it. Getting a FB message from one of his friends who decided to scold me for not attending his recent anniversary party with my husband (are you f-ing kidding me?). There's more, but suffice it to say I feel like a s)&t magnet this week. I went out last night to a political banquet and had a blast. It was something I could never do in my marriage because NSETBEx was a member of the "other" party, and ridiculed every opinion and decision I ever made. It was so refreshing to be in a room full of intelligent people who shared my world views. Today and tonight I am celebrating Christmas with my best friend. One of the only people in my life who remains bull$:!@ free. Thanks for listening.

My surgery was November 2017 (VSG) and I've had issues with breakthrough bleeding on my usual pill, and still despite changing pills about 3 months ago. My provider thinks it could be an absorption issue, which I don't know if I necessarily agree with considering I had VSG and not bypass, but anyways... Has anyone gone to the Nexplanon (arm) birth control after surgery? Thoughts on it? I'm half a** looking into it (aka kind of not really) but wanted to see if anyone had personal experience on here going from pill to arm implant.

Hi Sunny, Nice to see someone else from Nebraska. I am still in the insurance phase. I plan on having my done either at Creighton or at UNMC here in Omaha. I talked to my insurace company and they still have not recieved my pre-auth paperwork yet. UNMC tells me check by in two weeks and if BC/BS still doesn't have it, then they will resend it. Why can't they just do it now? I guess after thinking about doing WLS for about 8 months, including the hours spent researching, I can wait a few more weeks. I just want to get things started. Hope to "hear" from ya soon,

I hope my surgeon didn't make a mistake
oldoneyoungagain replied to Amanda R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
But she is stating the scan is showing the remaining part of the stomach, if that is the case, then she had to have had bypass. They couldn't leave a non-functioning stomach that is not being fed with blood as it would rot then she would be in a world of hurt. This is just my thoughts. -
Oh ok thats good to know. I am looking into bc but I want to have more kids in a few years. The minera soes not really convince me. My friend has it and I hear no so good things. So I will continue to see what can I do.

Hi again, maybe every doc is different but they told me no cab bc they need to be able to contact that person if needed, as well as, make then responsible for u. Again sweety, call bc no need wasting money on a trip if they turn u away. They asked me when I got there to meet my driver nd made him give his number to call when they were done. I'm just lookn out for u. Did anyone else go thru the same thing as i did with requiring a driver to be there?

Married ladies, did your dh go to your PS consult with you?
beachcitygirl replied to spoiltmom's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had 5 surgeries in less than 2 years. 2 shoulders, Gall Bladder, Lap Band, and Breast reduction with a lift. My husband went to all appt. with me, held my hand throught it all. Changed my babdages, fed me, made sure I always had everything I needed, most of all loved me through it all. it has been a year since my last surgery. He still sleeps in the spare room and hasn't wanted to be intimate with me. he is still very loving and suporrtive, but I think he saw me as a patient and now has a hard time seeing me as a loving wife. I think the breast reduction sent him over the edge. It was brutal. -
I have a bread craving, I'd kill my granny for a crusty loaf and lump of french butter. Maybe it's because I'm sort of disappointed. I know in reality you don't wake up a size 10 after your op but there in the back of your mind there's a glimmer of hope so I guess I feel my weight's not coming off fast enough. I seem to have stalled somewhat. I'm still not getting the scales out the shed until next month so I may be wrong but I just don't feel any skinnier and not one person has asked me if I've lost weight. Think I'm just fed-up.

Good for you! Keep pushing...it took me a year to get approved. This included the 6 month pre op with primary care and constant calling to the dr's office. One year - a totally frustrating difficult year. So hang in there and be prepared it is going to take more time to get to know the band, work with it and get to where you feel comfortable with yourself again. I'm not there yet bc I'm only at a 51 lb weightloss in 6 months and can barely notice the loss. Hang in there and keep pushing!
