    Fill

Just got my fill today at 10:30, and I've been vomiting very since. 2nd fill with 2cc. Is this normal for today..? Or should I call my doctor.
  3. I am freaking out. I am 6 days post-op (9/10) and have been taking care of myself and wearing my binding. Well this morning I noticed 2 little drops of pus or blood on my binding. I have the liquid stitches so I can see my scars and am scared that it is the start of an infection at the port site. ARGH!! Nervous and super scared of corrosion. Have any of you used antibiotics or mercurochrome (Sp?). I have left a message to the P.A. and just waiting but I am wigging!!
  4. My surgery has been scheduled for Jun 8th. I must admit that after years of wishing for this I am a bit nervous. My question is this. If you could change anythingyou did or didn't do to prepare for you surgery, what would it be?

    Day 4

Try to get as much rest as you can, I was on day four as well, took 3 naps then slept for 10 hours. I think that you are on such a high from coming home, having surgery finally behind you, some meds still in you. Now, that has worn off, you begin to feel everything. I am having a hard time choking down the Protein shakes. sleep well....
  6. I have what feels like spasms in my tummy when I eat or drink something. I also have the feeling in my tummy that moves it reminds me of being pregnant. Has anyone else experienced this weird feeling?

    DR.KIM

My surgery is today. Had to be at hospital at 6:30 am. My surgery was scheduled for 10. It is now 12:20. 2 people are still ahead of me. Nurses say this is very typical of Dr. Kim. Just be prepared to wait...
  8. Today I met with a second surgeon, Anita Courcoulas and I have to say I was very comfortable with her. Thank you all who suggested to get a new surgeon. She answered my pages of questions and listened to me and my concerns, also explained the entire procedure to me all over again. One question I had for her was about the pre-op diet, she does not require one, and does not require me to keep track of calories although I have been doing it the last 4 months so I may continue for a bit after until my comfort zone. She does not put in a fill at time of surgery but first follow up is in 10 days after surgery and first fill at 5 weeks. I also found out the name of the clotting factor I have it's Lupus Anticoagulant (I have to see a hematologist tomorrow) to probably get more test and make that a certain, and will probably have to take lovenox for 6 weeks. Also found out I have a small hiatal hernia, but the DR is not worried, she said when I have the LB surgery it will tug down on the hernia causing it to come down, therefore eliminating that problem. I also asked what kind of band will be placed she said she determines that at the time of surgery either Realize or LapBand her choice, was her words to me. But I trust her judgement. Sorry for such a long post just wanted to share my day!!

    First visit today...

Ouch! I only paid $10 deductible for each visit so $60 bucks out of pocket. No program fees??? Never heard of this. I would look at other docs too, the insurance companies pay these docs well. Check ur coverages are they paying 100% 80% that could b the issue, BUT if it would have cost me $2000 to get to where I am today I would have gladly paid it. Best Wishes!!!

So. Cal Kaiser Options Program help?

Hi, congratulations on making the decision to have WLS. I'm Kaiser Southern CA and the first thing you should know is that the insurance requirements vary greatly, not only from company to company, but area to area with the same insurance. Kaiser is a very good example. So what I'm describing here could be very different for you. I started my journey back in August 2014, which was when I first talked to my PCP about the possibility. He was very supportive and told me that all I needed to do to start the ball rolling was to call the Wellness Center in San Diego. When I placed the call I was told that I would be sent an info packet and after reading, if I decided to proceed, to call back to schedule a date to attend two mandatory seminars. One for weight management and one an intro to the Options program. I attended both seminars on 09/11. There they gave us a 10 page questionnaire to fill out that had to do with medical history, past weight loss attempts (you only have to describe them not provide actual proof), etc. After about a week I received an email telling me to get a few pre program labs, blood draw, EKG, stool sample, fasting glucose, and I think that was it. The faster you comply with their requirements, the faster you move along. A week or so after this I was contacted again to make an appointment for a one on one meeting with the head of the Bariatric Options program. Mine was for 10/06, and it only lasted about 20 minutes. The weight for this appointment is considered your Options starting weight. There I was told that I had been approved to enter the program and I would be contacted with the information on when my Options classes would begin. For my area Kaiser requires 24 weeks of classes (or 6 months), one class a week. But most other areas of Kaiser in CA only require 12 weeks (or 3 months of classes). I was also told that I will be required to lose 10 percent of my weight, which in my case was 24 pounds. My classes started in November and meets each Thursday night. This week will be class #11 and I've been surprised by how fast the time goes by (mine end in mid May). For the most part they're interesting and last 90 minutes. Last week we had a speaker, which was a former student who had the sleeve about 1 1/2 years ago. You can only miss four classes, and have to make up each one you miss. If you miss five you're out, and this has actually happened to a couple of people in mine. You're weighed each time and will be required to keep food and exercise logs. In my area Kaiser contracts out to Pacific Bariatric in San Diego, and the surgery is done at Scripps Mercy, also in SD. We are required to attend one of their seminars. I go next month. From the workbook material I've read that after graduation, if you've lost the 10 percent you then wait to be contacted to take a stress test. If you pass, then your file is forwarded to Pacific Bariatric. You will be asked to get a series of pre surgical labs/tests, not sure which. Then PB will contact you to schedule an all in one appointment for psych eval, surgical consult, and I think a medical internist. And at some point in all this you will get your surgery date. They do the sleeve or bypass. They no longer offer the band. If you don't lose the 10 percent there's an extra step before the stress test where you have to go back and have a consult with the head of the program. We were told in the intro seminar that the process averages about 9 months and it's been on line for that. Good luck with your journey!
  15. I had vomiting since I first got the Band and once I was stuck so bad but it would not go up or down so my body was still trying to vomit it up and after a while I vomited some blood but was still stuck. Twenty minutes later I was vomiting blood clots. I was at a support group meeting at the time. Freaked my friends out. I called my Doctors office and they gave his cell number as it was a Saturday afternoon. I called him and he told me to get some Water and drink a tiny sip which I did and threw up more blood. Then I continued to take tiny sips for the next 10 minutes and thank God it went down. He told me he would meet me at the office in an hour if I needed to. I am more than an hour away from his office.I felt totally better and did not go in he told me to be on liquids for 3 days and that I had busted some blood vessals and that was what it was. For some reason the first year and a couple of months when I got stuck it always had to come up and out it would NEVER go down no matter how long I waited it out and I waited it out many times the longest was about 8 hours. I could feel it trying to go through the Band but was like stuck in the middle could not go either way. I also suffer from anixiety and the stuck feeling starts me in the direction of a panic attack. I usually have to let my med for anxiety dissolve on my tongue as it would not go down. My Doctor and I could never figure what was wrong. I had a Floro at every office vist, only have 3.8 cc in 10 cc Band. But after a while things just changed and things started going down instead of up. Almost everytime I have ever been stuck was with some type of chicken. I still get stuck some but not like in the first year. I know sometimes it is my fault as I do not chew enough. If I go out and eat with my son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren I can not sit next to the 4 year old as she talks so much I can not chew as she is waiting for an answer. Even with all the throwing up in the beginning I love my band and do not regret getting it. Cheri
  16. Our fair is this weekend. I am mourning not eating the food. Really it is the grossest but at the same time it is so amazing!! I am only 10 days out so even a bit is out of the question. I am staying home. A little jealous of your outing

    Getting Nervous

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY! Take a LOT of pictures...it is my only regret. I took about 10 and it wasn't enough. You will want many showing yourself in different outfits (including a bathing suit) and many different angles to really see the difference.
  18. Are u drinking plenty of water? I am almost 3 weeks out and I get hungry, although I thought the removal of Grehlin was taking care of hungry.. :/ I have found that if I don't drink enough fluids I get hungry more often. When I wake up in the morning,I require myself to drink 20 ozs of clear liquids before I put any food in my mouth,10 more ozs before lunch and at least 10 more ounces before dinner. This keeps me full and works on getting the required amounts of liquid in too.
  19. Just 22 more LOOOONG days until I'm finally banded. My thoughts are racing around in my head. I'm freaking a bit today, I'm nervous, and I am so anxious to get this over with. I'm ready to start my pre-op diet, this way I know I am doing something to prepare for surgery. I've been reading a lot on the "complications" board, and I have to be honest, It freaks me out a bit. I think the most thing I worry about is erosion. I read on one of the boards that 25% of banding patients will have to have thier band replaced or removed. Thats a pretty high number. But, i guess I'm hoping I'm the 75% that wont have to have anything done. I'm just nervous about everything, I think the not knowing is scary. I know a lot about the band, but everyone is different, how will I handle th band? Will I be an accessive PBer? Will I not lose weight? Will I be a failure? Will I , Will I , will I? The list goes on and on. I just don't want this surgery to be another "diet" attempt. I am so sick of failing at every diet. I always do so good, I lose 20, 30, and even 70 lbs, and everyone goes on and on how great I look, then its like I wake up one morning and gain it ALL back. Why? I still haven't figured that out. Its like I eat one thing and I put on 20 lbs. I swear, I can gain 10 lbs in a night, and I'm NOT lieing. I've done it, I swear it. I hope this time next year, I can reflect on my journey and say this was the BEST decision I had ever made. I hope to say I have lost 70 lbs, or 60, or even 50. Scale this morning 229.2 (I'm about to throw the scale away, I promise.)

    Aspirin

I know aspirin is not recommended for Sleeved patients, but it's the only thing that works for me in catching a headache early before it turns into a migraine. Otherwise it's Percocet and a dark room. I see my surgeon tomorrow for my 10-week check, and plan on begging then, but in the meantime, anyone still use aspirin on occasion? TIA, Lisa
  22. I'm starting day 5 of a 14 day liquid diet. I tried drinking a shake with my night time meds and it didn't work out. I got so sick. I'm supposed to have food with it. The next night I drank the shake and about 30 minutes ate a small banana and it went well. I figured that was better than just picking something up to eat. Surgery date 10/25. Is this dumping?!

All day I've had the worst stomach cramps, I've had horrible, at times even uncontrollable diarrhea (sorry TMI) - I haven't change anything in my diet, I'm only 10 days PO and still on full liquids. This is awful. I have hardly ate anything all day because I immediately cramp up and run to the bathroom. I feel like I need something substantial in my stomach, like bread, rice - BRAT diet stuff to stop this - Is this dumping or is something wrong?
  24. Yep, I'm having this now. I'm taking gas-x strips, walking for 10-20 min every hour, and using a heating pad on the area. This combination has been keeping the pain at a minimum.

    What am I doing wrong?

I had surgery on March 10, 2014. I have lost 17 pounds since I started this journey. Part of which was from the liquid diet before the surgery. I can feel restriction, so I don't think I'm overeating, but I've been at a the same weight for a month now. I am very discouraged. I walked two miles yesterday. i just don't get it. i have not got this figured out yet. i had this surgery so I would not have to worry about dieting any longer, yet here I am worrying again about food! I will take any advice offered. Thanks, Mississippi Girl
