Icon23! Where are you?
icon23 replied to ByeByefatgirl.'s topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm doing great! I might be in the 3 week stall, but I lost 2 pounds in the past week, so I don't exactly consider it a stall. I lost 15 pounds the week before that, though, so it's a big difference. I'm just trying to be patient with the process and pay more attention to how I feel and how my clothes fit. I'm down from a tight 22 to a comfortable 20. My birthday is in 2 days and I already feel like I've given myself the best present -
I lost 20 in the first week. Probably a big part of it was water weight from the surgery. Not a single pound since. I'm 4 weeks today and have been in a 3 week stall. How can I possibly not be losing? Tomorrow is my 1 month check up. Maybe she can tell me what's going on. And yes. So frustrating.

No Weightloss by week 3!
flblueeyedgirl replied to GemJar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm at a 3 week stall as well. Everything I've read and advice from others to continue doing what your song and you'll get through it. I'm down 22lbs and am almost at 1 month. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App -
I had open surgery so 5 days in hospital. Then I had a week at my in laws, before coming home. I didn’t weigh myself over that time because no scales - but weight goes up just after surgery because of all the IV fluids. When I got home, I had lost 10lbs. Within a month of surgery, going back to work, 18lbs and needed new trousers (out of storage, thankfully!). The two lbs a week has been very steady ever since (apart from the 3-week stall, the 3-month stall, which is a week (or 2 or 3) with no loss - but you might drop a clothes size! It really, looking back, is fast - although early on I was thinking ‘too slow’. Now I am thinking ‘ok, how do I slow this’!!!

Minimal to no weight loss?
The Greater Fool replied to MshellL87's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Everyone reacts differently to surgery. The 3 week stall is a thing, but it does not necessarily wait until the 3rd week. Your surgeon isn't worried and he did comment that you were a lower BMI to start, probably lost weight before surgery, so not losing much the first 3 weeks does not sound way out of whack. So... Get off the scale. It is crazy making and distracting and discouraging you. You don't need it for the important stuff. The important stuff: keep following your plan. Exercise if you are so inclined. Keep doing both. If you follow your plan, you will do fine. It will be OK. Honest. Good luck, Tek -
I'm pre-op still but I have read so many people talk about the 3 week stall... Metabolisms are weird. Drink a ton of water, stay the course and it will come off... I'm hoping to only weigh in monthly for this reason. Don't know how I'll do with that, but I'll try!

Didn't effect mine at all. I've got hashimotos (severe under active thyroid--auto immune my body is actually killing it) and I've taken 150. Mcg of synthroid for over a decade. Course, I'm not losing super fast either and right now I'm on my 3 week stall -

How do i Break my stall
loridee11 replied to anniedebbie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Lots of water and focus on protein. I know some people really struggle with fluids early on but it is really important. My "3 week stall" lasted 3 1/2 weeks. It eventually broke and I've done well following the plan. -
Stalled At 3 Weeks?
Newfoundlove replied to Preacher's Wife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is the famous 3-week stall. My surgeon and NUT told me to expect it. Do a search on this forum and you'll come up with all kinds of posts. I had what I would call a mini-stall - only lost a pound (barely), but this week I lost 4 pounds. -
Is a 7 month stall a thing?
KayBee1972 replied to wakeupmaggie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Initial 25lb loss, then 5 week stall, followed by a 5.5 lb loss, and another 3 week stall. 5 days a week exercise(ish). I was at a work event for a week so it was much harder to track food and exercise when in a hotel working 12 hour shifts. I'm tracking every bite in MFP and come in between 850-900cal per day. No idea what to do. But you're not alone. -

Is There Something Wrong With Me? I Have No Problem W/3-4 Oz
LadyIvy replied to Isabel'sGma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It looks like you are doing great! I am worried often too, because I healed really fast as well. I am doing what I am supposed to and recently figured out that when I hiccup, it means I am done. Took me a month to figure that one out. I hit my 3 week stall (which lasted about 5 days) and now I lose a lb about every 3rd day. I am getting in between 600-1000 cals a day and because we heal so quickly we have a better chance of getting in all the required protein so there won't be any hair loss! You look like you are doing great! Just chew chew chew and go slow. -
Think I am hitting the dreaded 3 week stall. Any early May sleevers gone through it yet? How long does it last on average? I am going to do some measurements soon and see if I am at least losing inches, trying to stay positive and not let it get to my head.

My problem hasn't been fruit, it's been sliders. But after a 2 week, "dreaded 3 week stall", I decided that this was more important than the moment of satisfaction I got from eating the wrong thing! I'm back on track now and hope to stay that way! You just need to make up your mind if this is worth it, if YOU"RE worth it! You know the answer as well as I do!!! Let's do this!!! -
When will the stall end??
NovaLuna replied to It’sMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stalls happen. For me, they happen all the time. However, probably something like 80% of people have their first stall within the first month. It's generally referred to as 'the 3 week stall' because it usually happens around week 3 post op though can happen around weeks 2-5. Stalls generally last between 2-3 weeks. My longest one lasted 47 days. And no, I'm not joking. I lost 2 pounds on May 5th and then didn't lose anything until June 22nd where I lost 1 pound. Fifteen days later I lost another pound (it's been two days since I lost that last pound lol so who knows how long until I lose another). However, I'm also 17 months out so I'm getting closer to maintenance so my experience is a little different I guess, but I've had stalls constantly throughout my journey. It's an annoying part of it, for me. But hey, I've still lost 138 pounds since my surgery (and an additional 68 pounds prior to surgery) so try not to stress (next to impossible not to, I know). -
My story is almost identical to yours. I had a 3 week stall and then some. I was sleeved on April 4 and lost a lot at first then May hit. I knew it was going to be a challenge. The 15th my daughter graduated from College in Chicago, so we spent a 4 day weekend there. On the 22nd we went down-state Michigan for a memorial service for my wife's brother and then 3 days ago, one of my best friends got married. So it has been a lot of travel and crap. On May 8th I weighed 200 even and I actually somewhere in there went up to 204. Last week I went to the surgeon's office and I broke the 200 at 199. About 2 1/2 months before surgery I started physical therapy. My doc. thought it was sciatica, the therapist thought it was the piriformis muscle, but the MRI showed I have a pinched nerve at S1. So I haven't been able to exercise much at all. I am seeing the neuro-surgeon about it tomorrow and having an epidural on Thursday. The pinched S1 causes the muscles in my calves to cramp up and the muscles in my buttocks hurt a lot so even a recumbent bike isn't an option at this point. But I am learning to be gentle with myself.....this things shall pass and the weight will come off. Don :P:P:P

One month update photo... Belly Where? Lol ????
Dknal2 replied to Dknal2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you so much. Give it some time. My starting weight was 242 lbs in July and to date I have lost 47 lbs so this wasn't an overnight thing. So please don't think I'm one of those that posts 100 lbs gone on 2 weeks????????????. Not true here. This has been a challenge this entire month and I have already had the dreadful 3 week stall but I kept pushing through and will keep doing so until I reach goal. I encourage you to do the same and we will both get there. Success is within reach... I can taste it. -

Thanks for the great advice! Yeah, Ive def heard about the 3 week stall, just wasn't expecting it after 1 week! -
So I started at 314, now down to 274, but the scale has stopped moving completely. I've been at 274 for over a week and I'm soooo frustrated. I only weigh myself on Friday mornings.....how long does this stall last? I'm cleared to start working out again on Monday, can't wait and hoping that will help

5 months out...tortoise or the hare?
HaddocksEyes replied to ItsMeAgain's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a slow loser too. Right now I am losing about 2 pounds a week. I have only had one stall, and that was the 3 week stall everyone mentions. Pre-gastric sleeve, I had to practically starve myself to lose one pound a week (I lost 70 pounds as a teenager). So the slow loss doesn't surprise me, but it is frustrating because you DO wonder, what if it slows down even more the closer I get to one year out? My nutritionist and the nurse both said that the closer you get to one year, the more likely it is that weight loss will slow down. They were telling me that because I had not lost the amount they believe I should have lost at my two month checkup and they wanted to warn me it may get harder in the future to lose weight. I don't need it to slow down at all - that would be hard to deal with but I would have to learn to deal with it. I've still got 100 pounds to lose. They are wanting me to lose 70 pounds (total, so another 30 pounds for me by February) by my six month mark, which is what I have been striving for. I go to the gym 3-4 times per week (should be 5-6 times a week but life gets in the way) and try to be active outside of the gym. I eat 1000-1100 calories per day. But I can do more - like walking during lunchtime. I am wondering if there are people out there that were slow losers throughout the whole process and still met their goal. I am wondering if people like us will just lose at this rate the entire time or if they slowed down even more as time went on. -
I might be freaking out but....
slvarltx replied to xxjosettexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That certainly can be discouraging. I lost a 30 lbs. in the first 4 weeks and then hit a 3 week stall. Bottom line, there is no reason for concern unless it is 3 lbs in 6 MONTHS! Focus on your surgery recovery and make sure you are getting your walks in! It will happen.
