After surgery concerns.. Help!
Bariiime replied to Bariiime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okkkkkk so UPDATE yall!!! I can't recall if I told yall that I had the UGI done and it came back normal supposedly right.... so how about today i had my endoscopy done.. come to find out what they found so far is that my sleeve had twisted! She said it could be from the way it healed. But I read that it could also be from the way the staples were placed. Have anyone ever heard of this happening? I know prior to the surgery before they drugged me she said i will check it out and if anything I will do a dialation because she said my sleeve is really tiny.. whatever that mean. LOL I thought everyone sleeved their stomachs will be the same size so did she make mine smaller... weird. Nevertheless when i was in the recover room drugged i faintly heard her telling me stuff and i just recall nodding. So now I have to wait until my follow up visit to find out more details and if she was able to actually fix the twist. I do still have some of the symptoms as in the original post I made but they haven't been that bad in the last 5-6 hrs so we will see. I did read there there is several fixes for this issue with one of them being bypass which I was trying to avoid. Mainly because of not being able to take anti inflammatory meds, scared for another major surgery and me keep being out of work to recover. I feel like she may suggest this especially if i keep having heartburn and acid reflux 🫤. She also ordered for me to get another UGI before I follow up with her.. not sure why though since the 2nd one didn't even show her anything smh. Btw have anyone broke out from taking reglan? I took ot for 3 days and felt veey down, tired and weird just not myself and i immediately broke out on my face and chest prior to this I have had no breakouts whatsoever. This have all been an experience and I will try to remain positive for better days.... excuse typos as I'm still coming down from the medication they have me on. -
Struggling to envision weight loss
Blessd1 replied to mcipanda's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm so glad you posted this @mcipanda. I'm scheduled for gastric bypass on 3/29, and as it gets closer I try to visualize what is coming. Like you, I honestly can't wrap my head around nor visualize myself being significantly smaller. I'm also afraid of self sabotage and failing, you're not alone in that! I have struggled with weight since my teen years and am currently 46 years old. It's so hard to believe things could change for me and this is real! I keep reading posts on this forum and take comfort in knowing so many not only felt this same doubt, but they overcame it to reach their goals! Thanks again for sharing this, and I wish you well in your journey! -
Had gastric bypass 10/3. Down 77 pounds total. 19 of that was before surgery. Anyway, I am barely getting in 600 calories a day at this point and can only handle about an ounce and a half of protein with a couple bites of veggies at meals. I have a very clear full signal and don’t eat past it. I haven’t had sugar or carbs since surgery and I intend to stick with that. I cannot tolerate cheese, nuts, butter, basically anything but lean proteins and some vegetables. I even struggle with fruit. I don’t have a dietician so I have no idea if I am on track or not with my eating so I just take each day as it comes. I am happy with my weight loss. As most everyone I wish it was faster. But I have only stalled once and that was at the 3 week mark. I am exercising some but with the low amount of calories I am eating it is hard to have a lot of stamina. If anyone has any pointers let me know. I also still rely on 1-2 protein shakes a day to get protein up to around 80 grams.

Post Op 2 days Gastric sleeve / body swelling?
Possum220 replied to Victoria_Faith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I put on lots after my bypass as I was on IV fluids for two days. My feet were very puffy. Leaving it for two weeks will give your body a chance to get rid of the extra fluid. Now might be a really good time to record your measurements. I do this on a monthly basis. Sometimes we lose pounds, At other times we lose inches. -
Hi! I had my surgery on November 16th and I have lost 57 lbs in 3 months. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi, my bypass was 1/23/23. I was nervous as well not knowing what is going on with my insides healing. Very scared at times navigating drinking clear fluids and protein shakes. I couldn't gage how long the liquid took to get through the swollen areas of the surgery. I wished I had superpowers of xray vision ha! I have had surgeries before that I'd gage my healing on visible scars and inflammation. This was new and different. I want to validate your feelings of fears as I too had these anxious moments. You'll start to get better learning your new organs function as with everything new it's going to take time. I'm starting my new phase of soft foods(from pureed) and will have to figure out again how my healing is going. (Secretly hoping for those xray vision superpowers, ha!) Cheryl

I just had gastric bypass on 2/14 and have had weight problems all my life just like you. I was extremely self conscious for a long time about mentioning that I was considering wls to anyone for a long time because I was afraid of the judgment and stigma that surround it. Having support is invaluable. I would particularly point out your comorbitidies and how this surgery could help them. There are many patients that have completely stopped having to take any medications for diabetes and even put it into remission. Also if you look into the history of the gastric bypass it was originally a procedure that was used to assist people with gerd and gastric reflux to get rid of these issues and it just happened to have the side effect of weight loss. The more informed and logical on your approach would be the route I would go in getting her on board. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

What did you feel like the night you had surgery to 2 days post op? Anybody feel discomfort? Does it feel like you're swallowing air when you drink anything or eat yogurt/jello? I'm feeling this. I'm going to tell my surgeon in the morning when he checks in. I hope it's a normal feeling. It definitely feels restricted. Hopefully all I'm feeling is gas...gas that won't come, just tiny burps. I'm scared to eat jello and yogurt, I only took a few bites. I was so scared.

I don't want to tell anyone at work
hills&valleys replied to digi1024's topic in Insurance & Financing
I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but all it takes to find out the surgical procedure is a basic Google search. Just type "CPT" (Current Procedural Terminology) and the procedure number; example: CPT 43773 is "Laparoscopy, surgical, gastric restrictive procedure". The CPT # will most likely have a modifier added to differentiate the various restrictive procedures (Band, VSG, ESG, Duo-Switchn etc.) HR should not have access to HIPAA protected medical records submitted to the company's insurance provider or division. The Healthcare provider/Surgeon and facility should be filing the insurance claim directly which would bypass the HR Dept. -
How long were you off work?
Jeanniebug replied to Bandedbut's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had RnY gastric bypass. I took 3 weeks off. However, I wish I could have taken more time off. I'm one of the rare patients that had a prolonged period of pain, afterward. The pain wasn't horrible - liquid Tylenol took care of it - but it did make it quite uncomfortable for me to sit upright for long periods of time. -
I am 4 months and a few days post op, RnY gastric bypass. My restriction experience has been as expected. Until a few days ago... A week ago, I was able to eat about 3-4 ounces of food in one meal. I've been able to eat that for probably about a month. Totally textbook. All of a sudden, I am full after about 2 ounces. I started forcing myself to finish my food and it has been messing with my head. I know that overeating is a very bad idea, so I've decided to stop doing that. I've only been doing it for about 4 days, so I don't think I've caused myself any long-term damage. But, I'm kinda weirded out about the fact that I'm suddenly having the restriction that I did earlier on. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm 8 yrs post op on a gastric bypass and have now started regaining weight. I'm considering the bypass revision or what appears to be another name duodenal switch. Curious if anyone has done this and what are their results...Also this would be a self-paid surgery and I was looking for an estimated cost.

I am scheduled for a March 20tj bypass - it’s getting real and the questions are hitting me fast and furious. Appreciate any advice and insight: 1. Dying my hair/roots - any issues. Should I do it now or closer to the surgery date so it lasts longer. Same question for a new cut. Time for people to get use to it? Should I start taking collagen, non-sulphur shampoo - anything to manage the hair loss a little Walking post surgery - should I get walking sticks? I know there is no weight lifting post surgery - what about other non-weight bearing exercised- exercise bike, yoga classes etc. COVID, flu, tetanus, - anything else I should get ahead of Any kitchen things I should get- can you purée with a hand blender?

February 2023 surgery dates!
Erin18 replied to Erin18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery went great. It's a little bit sore where they did bypass. And a little gas I feel. I walked twice so far. I know I should have been walking more -
Anyone else with an April surgery date? Apparently my surgeon is going on vacation and lots of the patients approved October and November deferred until after the New Year, so instead of getting a March date, I've been pushed all the way to April 25. I'll be on full liquids on my 35th birthday. Not doing well with the waiting!

I’m about 3.5 months out from mini gastric bypass and I’m really worried I’m stretching my little stomach. I get nauseous really easily (although it’s better) and sometimes I have foods that sit really heavy in my chest but I can’t tell if that means I’m full or not. I’ve noticed I need to slow down between bites and so I’m going to work on that. I’ve been steadily losing weight, averaging 1.5 pounds a week and I haven’t had a stall yet. Could I be missing cues of fullness? I’m just so worried I’ll undo the entire surgery.

Low Energy Levels after bypass?
Mia the Pug replied to AmPriSi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
( I had gastric bypass surgery on January 23,2023. Right after my surgery I was able to walk the halls of the hospital and get a thousand steps in at a time. When I got home reality hit and I felt exhausted! I know I had pain meds during my overnight stay- but- when I got home, I’d sleep all night, wake around 8 am, and then nap from noon to 3. This was my first week home. I barely was awake enough to drink my protein shakes, and sincerely considered trips to the bathroom or to fill my water bottle exercise. The second week I walked almost everyday- one trip around my pond- 1,080 steps. When I’d get inside, I collapsed into my recliner to warm up and rest. But- I still felt tired and not peppy, nor did I see massive weight loss. I am at the end of week 3- beginning of week 4- I’ve lost 20 pounds, am getting my protein requirement I, and 60 plus ounces of water a day, I take my vitamins- but, honestly, I still don’t feel energetic. Oh, I also had a 5 cm hiatal hernia fixed at the time of gastric bypass surgery. I am letting my body sleep when it needs too, respecting that I must exercise , feed and hydrate my body and am just…allowing this journey to unfold at its own pace. I want to be thin, healthy and active, but at this stage- I respect that my body must heal from the trauma of surgery- which is a big deal. I am just grateful to be on this side of surgery, grateful that I had the opportunity to go through it and looking forward to the wonderful life ahead, being healthier, enjoying my family and experiences without unhealthy co morbidities that haunted me before gastric bypass. These are just my thoughts! -
Predicting a (bridesmaid) dress size
ChubRub replied to smc124's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Are all of the bridesmaids wearing the exact same dress? Maybe since you are the MOH, your dress could be a little different, which might allow you to purchase something off the rack instead of having to order it months in advance? Not sure where you are on the process, or how much you currently weigh, but it wouldn't be unheard of for someone to go from a size 20 to a size 4, between now and November! Many on here have done similar in that same timeframe! -
Predicting a (bridesmaid) dress size
smc124 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi all. My sister is getting married in November and I’m her maid of honor. I will need to order my bridesmaid dress for her wedding by late May. I will likely wait until as close as possible to deadline to order. I am going to probably err on the size of larger size and rely on tailoring or even possibly get two dresses. I roughly know what size I was when previously in the weight range I think I may be by November but it’s all a bit of a guessing game. Anyone have first hand experience doing something similar? -
Any success stories that started as slow weight loss? (MGB)
amylittlelbs posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Starting weight: 262lbs Height 5ft Hi all, I'm just over 1 month post-op (Mini bypass). I lost 14lbs on LRD (2 weeks), and since surgery I've lost 19lbs. I've pretty much had stalls throughout this month and I'm so disheartened that the scales aren't shifting much. Literally everyone else I know that's had surgery lost at a fast rate in their first month and meanwhile I'm chugging behind. I healed extremely fast, tolerate anything I'm cleared to eat and drinking as much fluid as I can. I'm also walking more with my dogs and soon to be cleared to go to the gym. I feel hunger still as well, and to be honest drinking water makes it worse for me. I didn't expect this to be a quick fix but if I have to work out 5 days a week to even go near my target, then surgery was a big waste of money as that just isn't suitable for my lifestyle. The reason I'm saying 19lbs is slow is because before surgery I could easily lose 2st in less than a month, obviously would gain it back but that was the norm for me. Has anyone got a similar story to mine where they started off slow but still hit their target? Thanks -
For those of you who have gotten the sleeve do you wish you had gotten the bypass?
smc124 replied to Tinkerbell1991's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Apologies - on re-read I can see how this came off that way. I’m a lawyer and it is my curse to be using overly persuasive language even when it’s not my intention. I meant no offense and certainly understand why GERD would play a big role in the decision for someone who’s had it previously- I perhaps misread the OP’s concern about GERD to be about future GERD and not previously having it as well. Regardless the right surgery is ultimately the one that will make each of us thrive based on on personal needs and that’s only appropriately determined on an individual basis. What was most important for me to convey to the OP was the malabsorption of daily medications - as someone who takes adderall for adhd, and occasionally Xanax for anxiety malabsorption for me could have been crippling. This was front of mind for me in seeing a recent post of someone 10 years out who had struggled with the same for her anxiety meds. I apologize if what I actually typed seemed like a rant against bypass. I think it’s an amazing life saving surgery and value all my BariatricPal bypass havers for the fantastic support they’ve provided me. Finally thank you for teaching me something about malabsorption I was under the mistaken impression unlike dumping it was experienced by all bypass patients and now I know better. -
For those of you who have gotten the sleeve do you wish you had gotten the bypass?
pintsizedmallrat replied to Tinkerbell1991's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a sleeve, and when I was experiencing severe acid reflux in the beginning, I had some regrets about not going for bypass. At over a year out I seem to have less difficulties with various foods than my friends who had bypass (I can more or less eat whatever I'd like in reasonable quantities), and I feel like in my own particular situation, I may have had even more difficulty than I already do with keeping what weight I have left ON...I have been attempting "maintenance" for about 4 months now and still am losing 2-3 pounds a month, and I am done actively trying to lose. It's actually hard to eat enough to maintain my current weight. -
