  1. Perfect, thank you again. I will look into Genepro as well. Yowza, what a learning curve!
  2. I purchased Genepro unflavored powder to mix into foods, but I don't like the way it tastes. Even though it doesn't have added flavoring, it still has a taste and I find it unpleasant. I would not drink it in plain water. When adding protein powder into foods, I prefer to use flavored protein powder for sweet foods like yogurt, pudding, applesauce, and oatmeal. I only use Genepro in savory foods like soup, beans, and pureed vegetables.

Food Industry Vets, Identity, and WLS

Bob, I work for he federal government in an agency that regulates food. cynthiarm2000, I admire you for eating the way you do. I would very much like to be eating organic...grass fed...ethically treated...minimally processed...uncured.. ...foods. I would like to have my own chickens, so I know they are humanely treated in the eggs I eat. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to purchase organic, grass-fed, ethically treated products. They do cost more than the factory farmed ones in the grocery store. Working full time, I don't have the time to raise my own chickens. How has my identity changed since surgery? I'm now called "skinny". I concentrate on getting my Water in, Protein in, taking supplements, getting regular exercise and doing things one day at a time. I try not to preach weight loss surgery to those I am so tempted to prosleytize to. I know that people have to come to their own decision about weight loss surgery, since it is highly personal and everyone is different. Before surgery, I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Now I have to do a considerable amount of planning regarding what I will eat, when I will eat it and how I will prepare it. Because I am not a cook, work full time and have a busy life, I live on GENEPRO Protein powder and Quest bars right now. I would like to do more cooking when I retire in 7 years. I hope to raise chickens in 7 years but I'm thinking that may change too. I would like to travel when I retire as well. Having chickens to take care of and traveling don't work well together. I think you'll find some adjustments to your occupation as a "food guy" but I wonder if it may give you an opportunity as well. You will be in a position to create new recipes that are high in protein and lower in carbs. IMHO there will be an opportunity in the near future for those businesses catering to people like me who are needing high protein, low carb meals. I notice advertisements are proclaiming how much protein their products have. I LOVE it when I can go to a restaurant and they have something tasty on a menu which fits into my food plan. Something that doesn't come in a HUGE portion that is high protein and low carb. I don't know if my rambling helps you or not. I wish you success with your surgery and hope you have an easy recovery. Blessings, Kathleen

Sorry it took me so long to reply! I use "Genepro next generation protein". Amazon.com. expensive but so worth it. Sent from my SM-G892U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Hi folks... I am 12 days out from surgery and using Genepro powder. I am having problems with it clumping. I am only doing 5 oz of broth, tomato soup etc and I mix it in a cup. Any suggestions ?
  8. I usually heat 2-3 oz very very very hot and then mix the remaining room temp with the GenePro then mix the 2 no clumping
  9. TEXASLADY52

What will I need as for protein etc.

GENEPRO http://www.musclegen.net/ .... this is oderless and tasteless and does not clump. You can add it to hot or cold....or just sprinkle over your food. This stuff is great. One tablespoon equals a scoop of whey and has 30 grams of Protein. It is approved by John Hopkins and has 96% absorbtion. You can also order it from Amazon. I go by every morning to a shake shop....get a Chunky Monkey (35 grams of protein).....add a scoop of Genepro (30 grams of protein)....later I fix a Crystal Light and add another scoop.....I already have 95 grams for the day!!! I understand you can contact the website and they will send you a sample?
  10. Thank you for your reply, my pea Protein tasted horrible so I returned it, I bought the GENEPRO, hopefully it comes when I leave the hospital. I am now getting ready for my surgery. I was called last night 3 times and my surgery was changed from 10am to 12pm to 9am, I have to be at the hospital at 7am, and it is now 4am. I am feeling very ready and nervous, I left packing for the last minute and I also haven't slept. I figured i'll get enough sleep later. Good luck to everyone having surgery today, I will update later on how it went. Here is my preop photo 10/07/14
  11. Hey Bronxmerci Sorry It took me so long to reply but I am in the hospital just got my computer and it want to act out. But GENEPRO is the best. It's unflavored, you can use it in hot foods and drinks. I've personally used it in HOT tea an HOT chicken broth. You Can not taste it. I ordered mine from Amazon. I had tea with Genepro (30 grams protein) in the morning and a Premier shake at lunch (30 grams of protein) for lunch. That gives you 60 grams and you still have the rest of the day If you wanted to do a little more.
  12. @msspicybaby does genepro taste good? I was reading up on it and heard its a tiny scoop that dossolves into anything and that sounds amazing at 30 grams per serving. Where do you buy it? I bought pea protein and I'm hoping it doesn't taste too horrible, I really want it to be unflavored.
  13. Where can you find that? Walmart doesn't carry it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App I ordered on Amazon, I got GENEPRO.
  14. I was sleeved on May 23, 2016 and I had a really hard time in the beginning getting my Protein in. I spent tons of money trying new shakes and powders hoping to find one that didn't make me throw up. And thanks to this site, someone mentioned GENEPRO. It claimed that one scoop (1 tablespoon) is equal to 30 grams of protein. I was elated! No more 1/4 cup scoops of nasty powder to get my protein in! However, I'm a researchy (is that a word?) kind of gal and I decided to read up about it online and there is no hard evidence to back up their claim. I found a site where the actual developer commented on body building threads about the validity of its product, they also had a lawyer telling random internet people to "cease and desist" slander against their product. What legitimate company responds to negative reviews by having their lawyer telling people to stop or even scours random web forums? I kept looking online and found a YouTube video where the creator of Genepro talks about his powder.... This video is done in his house, in his kitchen, with low quality equipment. That's odd. He talks about how well his powder dissolves and how it doesn't change the texture of whatever it's mixed with, but if you take 1 tablespoon of any other kind of Protein Powder, it mixes just as well... Hmmm... So, if his process of making protein molecules smaller to take up less space is actually legit, why don't more people, especially in the body building industry, use it? I'm skeptical now... Genepro - too good to be true?

The creators of Genepro live in an alternate physical universe from the one I live in . . . in my universe, a gram is a standard physical measurement of weight, and you can't get 30 grams of protein from 20 or so grams of mysterious powder. Genepro must come from somewhere with some sort of alternate quantum physics? But I live in my universe, so Genepro isn't going to make sense for me here.

Genepro - too good to be true?

Which is another reason to aim to get as much of your protein requirement from food as possible. Of course early put it isn't (and for many of us we continue to need to supplement) but even then I try to get my protein from many sources even the supplements, in case one isn't all it claims to be, like the Quest bars and the GENEPRO. I figure if I am not relying on that one source too heavily I'm still good because of all the other sources.

Genepro - too good to be true?

Do a search on the forum. I can't remember the specifics but there are many discussions with some legit concerns about the science behind Genepro.
  18. Basically Genepro's competitors do not understand the idea of purified Protein (getting rid of all the waste) and the addition of prohydrolase to increase protein bioavailability. Many of the competitors that are "complaining" about GENEPRO are themselves under a lawsuit for spiking their protein powder.
  19. Post-op, I just couldn't do Protein Shakes anymore - ordered Genepro based on recommendations and it might be just what I needed. I've been enjoying my mushy foods but couldn't get enough protein and Isopure protein drinks are somewhat disgusting. I just added a scoop of Genepro to roasted butternut squash and it's delicious. I'm hoping my stomach agrees with me.
  20. The biggest one is that they claim 30g of Protein from 15g of product and since grams are a weight measure, not quite sure how that happens. Read this thread or do a search http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/372406-genepro-too-good-to-be-true/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. So my primary focus is on getting protein first and foremost. Partially because it’s filling and partially because I am working out so much that I need the protein for my muscles. I eat 3 meals a day and usually 1 snack. I definitely try to avoid refined carbs for the most part. Now, I’m not going to lie - I’ve had a cookie 3 or 4 times, or a tiny scoop of gourmet ice cream, but those are occasional one-offs and not something I keep in my house. I’m currently at about 1200 calories a day. My breakfast is pretty boring - I either have chobani less sugar added Greek yogurt with a scoop of genepro protein powder, 15-16 raspberries or 10-12 blackberries, and 1/3 a cup of purely Elizabeth grain free granola, or half an “egg wrap” - which is using a low carb tortilla (I like the ole version), egg, grilled veggies (zucchini, red pepper, yellow pepper, red onion, zucchini and spinach), ground turkey sausage, and shredded mozzarella. Lunch and dinner are just dependent on what I’ve cooked - usually something like spinach stuffed chicken breasts, a fajita bowl (meat, a little cheese, grilled onions, and salsa), ground chicken burger, taco salad, etc. Snacks are usually one of the following - 3 apple slices with 2 TBS natural peanut butter (just peanuts - no sugar or salt), cashews, chicka boom popcorn (the sea salt one and I measure out 2 cups), or if I am short on protein, “protein pudding” - 1 sugar free pudding cup with a scoop of genepro protein powder. I do also throw in sugar free popsicles and sugar free fudgesicles (but those are part of the liquids and I don’t have to wait to drink after those). My goal is minimum 80 grams of protein. I still try to be low carb and low sugar but my net carbs are usually around 50-60. That is now - I was definitely lower early on - but trying not to be carb phobic of the good carbs now. I was extremely carb phobic at first. Have added more veggies and fruits in the last couple of months, but again, my #1 goal is protein.

    I want to succeed

I can't stand most of the protein powders or pre mixed drinks because they're all sweet and take forever to drink so you feel like you're never meeting your protein requirements. I got Genepro it's an unflavored protein powder and you can put it in just about anything. It's a tiny scoop for 30g of protein and you can finish it in one sitting. Also walk walk walk as much as you can and it will help that gas sort itself out better. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. I have bought some PB2 and I was wondering if anyone has any good thinks to do with it than the usual. I am also trying to find unjury in my area and am unable to find it. Can anyone give me any ideas on things to get besides Unjury? Same as the GENEPRO, I can't find that either.

    Green Smoothies

I tried but I can't do protein powder... The genepro doesn't add anything and I don't feel like a real green smoothie is sweet enough on its own.
