  1. This may be TMI but how long was it before you all had your first bowel movement? I just want to make sure I'm not getting backed up or if it's normal for the first couple of days or so? Thanks.

    Please help

Is anyone else having trouble moving their bowels? Tmi I know but I feel as though I've tried everything and nothing is helping at all.
  3. I'm supposed to lose 170 to reach a "healthy" BMI. I started at 315. I was 309 when I started my 2 week preop and now I am 200 (anxiouslybawaiting the 199). Surgery date was 12/13/13. I am almost 9 months out and down 115. I've gone from a 26/28 down to a 14 so far. I chose to be very low carb. I don't like artificial sweeteners so I only drink Water. I still don't drink with meals. I've definitely had stalls but I just stay the course because it's a numbers game and if you're doing what you're supposed to, it has to work. I'm shooting for losing as much as I can in the first year since that window gets smaller and smaller every day. I don't eexercise a lot but I can move so much easier now, I'm out hiking a lot and doing tons of yard work. This will be TMI but usually my stalls will break once I have regular movements. I have issues with constipation. Miralax is great, but not in plain water. If you drink other SF things, take miralax daily. I'm 41 and 5'2 and have been overweight most of my life so the saggy skin is gross, but so worth it.

    Tomorrow's My Day!

Hope you are doing better now than earlier. Just a few tidbits. I had to wait in the pre op area for my surgery for FIVE, yes count 'em-5, hours! My surgery time was supposed to be at 10 am, arriving at 8am to get checked in a prepped. Well at the last minute my surgeon's partner had an emergency case that took my booked OR room and I got pushed back. The hardest part? Smelling coffee at the nurse's station and not being allowed any! LOL After surgery I had a very, very hard time waking up. It was early evening before I finally came to and after 10pm before I was coherent. I too was extremely sick to my stomach. In fact, my first memory when I regained consciousness was throwing up lots of blood. (Sorry- TMI) It was gross and totally freaked my visitors out, but that is all there was in the tummy to come up after major surgery - duh. Turns out the pain meds made me sick. They had to give me an anti nausea chaser with each dose of the pain meds. I still felt queasy but it helped keep it in check. I could only manage ice chips until the day I was released. ( Surgery on Monday, released late on Wednesday) I was given some apple juice on Wednesday and only managed about 1/4 of a small plastic cup of it. My initial swelling/ restriction was EXTREME. But as with all good things that ended and now I long for those days again. ( Made the weight loss a lot easier) I tell you all of this to let you know...this too shall pass. ( speaking of passing....the first BM takes a while) I wish you a speedy recovery, lots of success in your weight loss and hugs and kisses from your baby!!! Enjoy the new you!
  5. I go in for my 4 week check up tomorrow. The only issue I've been having for a few days is unpredicable stomach pains (gas?). I *think* it's becuase I'm full, but it's happened at some odd times, i.e. when I haven''t had anything to eat or drink for a little while. The pains can be really unconfortable, making it hard to take a normal breath. If not all ready standing, I have to stand up and walk around. Lots of times I burp a few times, things grumble, and it eventually subsides but it takes a while. I've also noticed I have to eat less. For example, used to eat 4 oz of greek yogurt, or 4 oz of blended Soup. I can still manage the Soups (mostly), but with yogurt I can only get down 2oz before I don't want it and start to get a full feeling. Then I burp and say, that's it! I do eat very slowly, with tiny bites. I've slowed things even more, hoping it would help, but no. I'm hoping it's just that my stomach is healing and I'm starting to feel more. What's disconcerting is that when I get this pain, it's on the left side, just below the ribs, also up under ribs and left boob. I thought left side pain was potentially a problem...but I'll know tomorrow. I was really hoping I'd get moved on to the next food stage (mushies). Fingers crossed! Oh ,and to make things even more enjoyable - TMI warning - my visitor is back after only 2.5 weeks. sigh. Comes along with WLS I guess :-)

    Banders #6

Just wanted to mention that I need new stockings. I'm wearing a pair I got from the back of the drawer and now I know why they are there. Talk about baggy ankles...I keep having to pull them up so high that the waistband is up under my boobs. I know...TMI for the guys on this thread but you're all married so you know the score. Have a great Monday everyone!

    What to expect

Well this is probably not the answer you are looking for but to be absolutely honest everyone is soooooo very different. Some people seem to just sail right through with little to no problems, some have minimal problems and others like myself experienced a few problems post op. None of this is meant to scare you but I wish I would have known. I was allergic to the pain med they gave me I the hospital, I had severe itching and they had to give me benedryl. With all of the IV antibiotics they gave me I developed a yeast infection. That wasn't fun either. I did not experience the gas pains, I did not have a drain, once they discontinued the pain pump it was difficult to take my meds crushed up. Yucky! The liquid pain med they have me gave me migraines and all I could take to help was children's chewable Tylenol. I had trouble getting down enough fluids and protein and still struggle from time to time. I had my surgery (sleeve) on August 25th. Things are getting better day by day some days being better than others. Oh BTW four days after surgery I weighed myself and I had gained 6 pounds, not being warned about the IV fluid weight I was devastated. I vowed to stay off the scale. Bowel movements can be tricky and I usually only go once a week now. (Tmi). On the upside, it's over and I am trudging forward. I have to go back to work on Monday. I am still very very tired. So all in all all you can do is hope for the best. I have also read that some people have nausea and a stomach cramping when drinking their protein shakes or eater but I never had that. I am back at the YMCA walking 4 miles a day. Not quite where I used to be before surgery but day by day I am hoping to get there! Good luck on your journey!

    Shelf Butt Blues

I HAD junk in my trunk, but after losing 60 pounds it's all gone. All I'm left with is what looks like a deflated balloon:( My butt is now saggy on the outside AND inside (nobody told me about the inside saggy part, I discovered that one day when wiping myself after using the bathroom - sorry if it's tmi). I kinda sorta miss my plump butt, but I don't want to carry all of that around anymore. Also, for weeks when I would sit in my car I thought something was sticking out of the seat or that I was sitting on my keys or something, then I discovered that it was my boney butt that I was feeling! lol I never imagined that I would actually "feel" my bones ever again.

    I AM BAD....OPINIONS.

You mihht have done yourself a favor by not going out to eat. 4 weeks after being banded we hit a favorite Mexican restaurant. I very carefully had 4 small bites of the inside of an quesidilla, and 2 tiny sips of hubbys margarita. I forgot and used the straw. I dont know which part of all that didn't agree with me, but tmi alert............it was a run for the bathroom time, and the rest came up in the parking lot. Alot. Very bad. So, you might have done yourself a good thing because sometimes 4 weeks just isnt enough. My hubby is very happy otherwise with my being banded, it just was a few adjustment s, and then it got better and better ! Good luck to you and your hubby !!

    Pre op liquid diet

Thank you! I think part of the gain was because it was 3:30 in the afternoon and the beginning of my time of the month ( tmi) sorry! Will see what happens on Monday when I see the nutritionist.
  13. thanks guys, i lost at the july session but i have my august session tomorrow. I've had a really stressful month and my period (sorry if TMI) so I think I will show a gain and I am terrified they are going to tell me. well that's it. I've been doing much better over the last week and a half and I am in the middle of a flare up with my fibromyalgia so working out has been a total bust which I know was the big variable last month.

Band to Sleeve in One surgery

Hi, my surgeon did the band/sleeve revision in one procedure. I was under for 3 hours so waking up took some effort. Like ambc35 my recovery took a little longer too. I took off two weeks and I needed the time. I was pretty tired and there was a fair amount of pain where the port was. I've had absolutely no problems since returning to work 3 weeks after surgery. I don't have kids so I can't speak to that. I have a dog and that forced me to walk every day after I came home from the hospital. Walking was the very best thing I did for myself to speed recovery. My weight loss is slower than I'd hoped. I wish it was more but I'm not too discouraged (yet). I think it's a combo of my starting weight and limited pre-op calorie consumption. I couldn't keep down much I was banded because I threw up practically every meal. (Sorry for the TMI.) Would I do it again? Absolutely. Stats: Surgery July 28, 14 Pre-op 212 Now: 183 Goal 140

    AUGUST 25TH HERE!

Not to share TMI but yesterday I thought I was going to blow up! I hadn't had a BM since before my surgery on the 25th. The pain was unbearable...finally I was able to go. I walked this morning and had another successful event. Gas is still bad. Anyone else having this issue?

    Wanted: September Sleevers!

Im super excited but nervous. I start my clear liquid diet and Miralax prep tomorrow and surgery weds! I hope everything goes ok as planned. I did cheat on the 2 week diet with chicken breast and veggies but did do the soup, shakes, sugar free jello, and increased my water intake dramatically! I haven't lost much weight though but have lost some. I think its because I was taking in to much protein (or constipation...I know TMI)... Good luck to all the Sep 3rd surgeries!

    August Sleevers Check In

Hey, I am right there with you. We all hear about the 3 week stall, but sure hope and pray it does not happen to us. I hit mine right at 3 weeks, when I switched to soft foods. Doc explained to me that it has a lot to do with just having more food in you bowls (TMI). This too shall pass. I just quit weighing everyday. So I will be 4 weeks out this Thursday and I am not going to get on the scales until then. I am just going to focus on doing the right thing each day, protein, water and mover. Our bodies are wonderful things, we just have to trust them. But it does pi$$ me off also, wonder if being pi$$ed off burns more calories, LOL. Take care, Laura
  18. K so I had gastric sleeve surgery on December 22nd. I am out of town for a bachelorette party. From eating spicy food and drinking my stomach is so torn up. I can't think about eating or drinking anything!!! HELP!!!! I got sick last night and have a feeling I'll be on the toilet most of today. I know TMI but I just need advice
  19. I did a search here and everyone complains about gas right after surgery. I want to ask about gas a couple of months out after surgery. What do you do? Luckily I live alone so that's not an issue...but what will I do when I start work?! It's gross. And this is TMI but it's like all day!! Never happened before the surgery, and now it's like I can participate in a farting competition Any suggestions?! Please help :S
  20. This is a cross post- Here are my quick stats: Lap-Band in Monterrey, Mexico in 2003. Over 11 years I lost 100 pounds and gained back 40. Revision to Gastric Sleeve in Las Vegas August 5, 2014 When I was first researching about a revision surgery and the sleeve, I read about so many complications. I learned a lot about what could happen. For those of you who are debating surgery, here is my success story: My experience has been great. I have NO REGRETS. I had my revision surgery from the lap-band to a gastric sleeve in one operation. In fact, it was done as an outpatient. I arrived at the hospital at 6am and was on my couch recovering at about 4:30 pm. Since the first day I was able to drink Water and a ready-made Protein shake. It was slow drinking, but had no issues. I took my pain medication for 2 days, only because I was scared that if I didn't take them, I would have pain. I didn't. I would say the worst pain I felt on a scale of 1-10 was about a 4. I slept on my side after about 3 nights. I took a shower the day after my surgery and walked a lot. On about day 3 I got the gas pains, but took Gas X and they only were bad for about an hour. I had no problem getting in my 60 grams of protein - in fact, I usually had 80 grams (2 shakes and one powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup broth) On day 10, my Protein Shakes started to disagree with me - well, my intestines disagreed with them! As soon as I started drinking, I could feel my intestines filling with water and would have to run to the bathroom. TMI I know, but it happened. 14 days after surgery at my 2 week follow up appointment, I told my doc that the protein shakes were giving me issues and his response was to stop drinking them and "let's get you on solid foods." I haven't had one since (almost 2 weeks ago). Since then, I have been eating real food and I feel great! I have mostly had softer foods like deli turkey or eggs but last night I had salmon and it was great. I feel better today 25 days after surgery than I have felt in the last 2 years. I have lost 25 pounds but it must look like more because everyone I see is asking me if I have lost weight (I don't think I look like I have, but that's another issue.....) I have energy like never before. I sleep better. I feel "normal" when I go out to eat. I sometimes want the junk, but I am able to resist. My stomach has NEVER growled and I don't feel hungry. Sometimes I feel "empty," but I can wait to eat. I am a boring patient. I LOVE being boring! Anyone else out there proud to be boring?

    Sleeved 08/26

Today is the first day I got on the scale since my surgery. I only weigh once a week. I learned not to weight every day since I started the dieting and exercise program in May. It seems like most of the gas should be gone from what has been going on I have passed a lot of gas (TMI) but I am just so discouraged. Shouldn't have any water weight left either. Lol. I use the bathroom all the time. I hope you are right. I have a doctor appt next Wednesday. I guess I will stay off the scale until I have to get on the scale then, I sure hope I lose because I will be very depressed if I don't.

    Sleeved 08/26

VVV, I was sleeved on 8/25 and I regretted it for about two days after. I was in pain. It does get better. You start to realize what gives you gas, what you can tolerate and what to avoid. I've learned everything except broth makes me gassy. Lol. TMI. Each day will get better. You had major surgery. Your body needs to heal itself. You've been through a trauma. But, you took the first major step in getting the surgery. Keep your chin up.

    AUGUST 25TH HERE!

Hello all, looks like I'm the wimp of the bunch. I've slept for 72 hrs. I was very dizzy and just gave up walking. I have suffered from dizziness in the past. Gas is bad and abdominal pain a close second. Gas coming out slowly and today I made it to my living room. I've sipped some liquids and also found burping after helps. Not to ask TMI but has anyone had a bowel movement? I can actually see improvement so I'm not giving up. Good luck to all of you guys.

New to the process - help?

Everyone is definitely different. Depends on the surgeon and your insurance company. Even people on here with the SAME ins. company have slightly different requirements, depending on what part of the country you are in. I am Tricare (military). I said "YES" to the program on July 7. Since then, I have had a nutrition counsel, exercise physiology counsel, psychological counsel, and after everything was turned in to insurance, they wanted a Pulmonary Function Test, which I had today. My last nutrition counsel is tomorrow. Hoping my ins will give me the thumbs up by the end of the week. The only thing I would suggest is the more co-morbidities that you have, the better. (Diabetes, HBP, high chole., sleep apnea) the easier the process. I have Diabetes, so I had my PCP write a letter of medical necessity to my ins. company, and I think that helped quite a bit. Lastly, the higher your BMI, the longer you may have to be required to have a special diet BEFORE surgery. This process shrinks your liver, so it can be retracted easier to get to your stomach. I know, TMI. Good luck to you. Keep us posted!!!
