Heart palpitations, dehydrated or naughty eating habit?
Kristi schumann posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m feeling scared and frustrated and uneducated. I have always had heart palpitations and high pulse. Before surgery I was on 3 no pills. I’ve had several full cardiac work ups and it’s always been normal. I’ve struggled with fluids since surgery as in I’m probably always dehydrated. I have weened off of two of my bp meds (lisinopril hctz and norvasc) and I take 25 mg of metoprolol twice daily. Everytime I try to come off of beta blockers my bp and pulse sky rocket. I had an incident in July I was at work and all of a sudden my pulse jumped to 140-160s they gave me adenosine (med that stops and restarts your heart) and it didn’t work they gave me a beta blocker and I went back into normal rythme and rate. Then a couple of weeks ago I was standing next to my bed and all of a sudden I had back to back palpitations and I ended up in ER, they gave me fluids and it stopped. Since then I have had pretty frequent palpitations. I do notice they get better when I drink water but I dunno if I can say everything they do because I just started trying to figure out the link. I’ve reached out to my cardiologist and was told on mychart they would call me to schedule an appointment. I’m just wondering if any of this is normal “relatable”. I’m wondering if it’s from lack of water. I’m also wondering if certain foods can trigger the fast heart rate and palpitations because I’ve noticed I’ve gotten entirely too comfortable cheating here and there and. I am gonna restart from the basics. any input would be appreciated! -
I am fortunate to be a very fast recoverer. C-S was harder, but it was relatively easy for me to recover. Lapband was a walk in the park in comparison. I had some discomfort after I came to and then for the first 12 hours or so, but nothing I thought was just awful. The anesthesia hangover was by far worse than the surgery itself. I was at the mall 3 days post both surgeries.

I finally have a date!
life_after_gastric_bypass replied to kparadisek's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't be discouraged, the time will fly by so fast. just keep busy and continue to surf the boards and gain more knowledge of what your doing. Start preparing yourself for cleaner eating habits and tracking your food intake with a app like my fitness pal, and learn from those who have had the wls... hearing and seeing about other people will make your more excited and soon it will be your turn...GOOD luck to you -
Ok, so I am a recovered bulimic, meaning every day I still have to work at it. I was diagnosed bulimic and treated with professional counseling. In fact, part of the reason I gained so much weight is that I was able to stop purging but not binging. I would take in some 3000 cals or more in a sitting on my way to recovery. 100lbs came on FAST. Not pretty. So to answer your questions: 1. Does anyone feel they have traided in one eating disorder for another? (like we use to eat our feelings now we starve them?) No, I don't. I think I have the same eating disorder but I've learned that those demons are incredibly tricky....and adaptive. I can physically no longer binge on food.....but I can "binge" in bandster portions, still feel bad about it, still barf it back up. For a while I was PB'ing A LOT and one day leaned over the toilet I realized......basically I was a bulimic again, just in a different pattern. So I got back to my therapist. It's not cured, it's still a battle. With an ED, you are ALWAYS fighting the demons....it never stops, it just goes quiet once in a while. 2. Does anyone chew there food and spit it out? Like others here, I only do that if it doesn't feel right in the mouth...like it's not breaking down right to swallow. Tho there are documented cases of Eating Disordered people doing this. It's something to look into. 3. Does anyone feel like a bulimic? Yes. I have for about 15 years now. The band actually makes me feel LESS bulimic because I have some tiny bit of control on binging out....I can eat FAR less than I ever could. And all of that helps in this fight...... Hang in there...and get to a therapist!!!!

Diabetes & High Blood Glucose Levels
AnnaKarenina replied to Angie's_Ocean's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your blood sugar is skyrocketing, call your doctor and let them know it isn't working for you. My doc and I have been adjusting and adding, trying to help me get there. I have a similar story. I've been Type 2 since 2004. I changed doctors a year ago because the doctor I had didn't seem overly concerned that my A1C had climbed to 11 and nothing was bringing it down, even when I ate really low carb, walked everyday, took my medicine. My new doctor was on board with the surgery when I went to her last August, I did my 6 month diet that my insurance requires and I had hoped that I could have surgery in the spring but my A1C had only come down to 9 and the surgeon said that was not good enough. I am not on insulin but I am taking 5 oral medications, and we keep tweaking the dosages and times I take them. I started taking Jardiance last month which is a newer med and costly $180 per month with insurance but it seems to be working. My fastings are down to 120, as long as I watch what I eat it doesn't go much higher. I test like crazy and feel like I'm obsessed with my blood sugar. I don't have labs again until September, but I am hopeful to have better results. If not I don't know where to go, my 6 month diet was Sept thru Feb and my psych visit was last November so my insurance may make me repeat all of that. I have been so frustrated too, it seems like I'm working so hard and not getting there. I've seen so many people have their surgery already and I'm still waiting. -

feel sluggish..anyone else
joatsaint replied to blackie220's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Applebtmgrl77 - I agree, after watching the movie "Super Size Me" I began to think the same way. There are 32 ingredients in a chicken McNugget. 32! They admitted that the more processed a food is, the lower the nutrition and it becomes less healthy to eat. I can only imagine what they do to the Big Macs to make'em taste so good. If you haven't heard about the movie, the star went on a 30 day diet, eating exclusively McDonalds' food for every meal. At the start, he went to 3 doctors for a baseline reading and their expectations of what would happen to him. They figured he'd gain weight and have higher cholesterol levels. But by the last week, they were telling him to stop eating fast food - it was destroying his body. Check out reviews, it was a great movie and will really open your eyes to the stuff they put into fast food. http://goo.gl/n8BPk -
I would just say "I'm fasting," "I'm trying to do a clensing diet," or "I'm trying to stay away from fast food/resturant foods." And then just move on. That way you won't feel like you're lying, because you ARE on a diet I know we will all be put in a weird eating situation while pre-op or post-op, but we have to stay focused and comfortable with who we share our personal information with. Good luck!

You're not alone! We must have been banded on the same day. I thought my hubby might go on a supportive diet with me during the fasting, but if anything he's bringing pizza and fast food into the house more because I'm not cooking. He's a great guy, but he has no idea how close I've come to strangling him these past two weeks. :-) Anyways, the thing keeping me going is definitely the scale, even though most of it is probably Water. I try to make sure I'm full with a Protein shake when my family is eating, and I just keep counting down the days to mushies. I keep telling myself that soon this will be a distant memory, and it will, so hang in there. We can do it!!

Hi kim Welcome how are you feeling? Hopefully you well have some restriction here in the immeditate future. They usually say you know for sure by 2 weeks have you talked with Paula yet? She is real good at doing my fills has never missed so far and is usually so fast I do not have time to worry about the needle I have met Steve but I really prefer Paula I am justso use to her. I did go to the Party for a bit Tuesday night it was quite nice but I had to leave early since it is a work night. All the staff was there and Dr. J as well as the rest of the staff. Wish I could have stayed longer. Well back to work for me

How long is the liquid diet after 1st fill
peprmentpati replied to J in Vermont's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually fast the day of, get my fill - remain on Clear Liquids for the 1st 24 hours. The next 24 hours are for soft food or thick liquids, and the 3rd day you can return to regular diet, but start slowly. Personally, I love getting fills! I usually use that time to take it easy on my regular diet and lose more rapidly. Good Luck! Rebecca -
Larae, I've been through it too. My problem is sudden closing up so I can barely tolerate liquids. I had a 3 week wonderful fill & boom, total restriction. I've been unfilled 2X, once totally. Now Dr. Martinez has prescribed Reglan, he said he noticed that the liquid rushes down too fast when he's done fluoro, so I'm taking it nice & slow, had .3cc's added today, now at 1.3. This pretty much sucks, but I'm taking it REAL slow. And yes, I did gain a little weight. But that was my fault, I figured no restriction, poor me, and let's eat whatever! I hope it works out for you, and for me too!

Got awesome news today!

No, sorry. I have BCBS. I hope your approval comes super fast! -
Well, it's Feb. now and although I did go down to 187, I am back up to 192. I hate myself so bad. I have gotten 3 fills, and I know the band is there because when I am really hungry, I eat too fast and the food gets stuck, it's very painful. I had foot surgery on Dec.15th and have not been able to exercise since. I can ride my bike now, but it is too cold. I am at a standstill and disgusted with myself. My friend who had her gastric bypass the same day I had this is down 96 lbs. That really made me depressed. I have no will power and really should have gotten that done. I ate right today but ate 2 cup cakes tonight. I pray I can get this right. I am ashamed:think that I did not loose more. My family wonders why. Patti

How long before you were in bandster hell?
ALuv82 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone. I was just wondering how long after surgery people stopped feeling restriction and went into bandster hell? I'm 3 weeks out and I'm wondering not because I'm there already, but because I'm not. If anything, I'm actually afraid I'm too tight. Is it too soon for me to tell that, or should most of my swelling have gone down by now? I've been on mushies for a week now. I had my first post-op appt last week 1 day after starting mushies and I told my doc that when I ate I got that pressure in my chest that feels like indigestion without the burning. He said I was probably just eating too fast and I should slow down. Well, I've been eating plenty slow now. The info packet I got from my surgeon's nutritionist said eat 2 oz protien and 1 oz carb at a rate of 5 minutes per oz. Well, it takes me at LEAST 15 minutes to eat that much and I still get the feeling. Yesterday I even felt uncomfortable with a yogurt and a medifast. Although the weird thing is that the more solid stuff actually seems to go down more smoothly. I had turkey meatballs and felt fine, but apple sauce is almost always nucomfortable. I haven't PBed yet, nor have I had anything stuck, except maybe a piece of canned peach and that only lasted for about 5-10 seconds. My surgeon does prep the band with a small amt of Fluid at surgery, although I'm not sure how much. Has anyone else still felt this way 3 weeks post op or were most of you already in bandster hell? Is it possible to tell this soon that I'm too tight or will I still continue to loosen up some. I have already talked to my doc like I said and he wasn't concerned but that was a week ago. If it keeps up I'll definitely call him, but I was just curious how other people felt this far out. -
How long until I understand my new Stomach
Cinderella replied to cludgie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your new Sleeve, and welcome to a new and better life. Is Gastric Sleeve the most popular WLS out there now, or WHAT? Can't imagine why anyone would want anything else. But like the song says, "Slow down, you move too fast..." it will be a LONG TIME till you fully understand your new teeny tummy. You're only in your first days, so a tiny sip or two, a bite or two, and you're full. My best advice: DON'T push it, if you aren't hungry don't eat, and don't feel bad about throwing away food. You don't need much right now, after a few weeks you'll start to fall into the patterns. At 5 weeks out, I can tell you that I am constantly surprised at how LITTLE I can eat... no matter how small of helpings I take, it's usally too much. Think: doll sized portions. good luck! That "full" feeling and another question
bearbandit replied to julieg40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am just over 3 months post op. I was like you measuring all my food and stopping at that point regardless. It all depends on what food I eat. For example lets say I eat some salmon. Salmon is a lot more dense thus I get full on 4 oz. If you eat some steamed veggies they are less dense and you can eat more. So how much food depends on how dense it is. The feeling of full is really hard to find or understand. Remember your brain takes twenty minutes to realize your full. You are looking for that physical feeling. Hince thats why we have bands because we eat till we feel full. At that point we ate way too much. I have 5.75 cc's now and I have to be very careful on how fast I eat. or I can get stuck, which hurts. I still measure out my food volume. your only two months out so your still healing. Measure out your food and stop. Time yourself between each meal. if you start to get really hungry at around 2 hours after then you need a fill. I eat every three hours regardless. As for drinking water, (only after about 45 mins after you eat), I drink that stuff down like there is no tomorrow. It wont extend your pouch as it will pass right on through. When you get good restriction and you just ate a very dense meal and didn't wait long enough after you ate to drink water....ouch! that really hurts. P.S. I also had my 3 month labs done. all was good but Vitamin D was low. apparently this is very common. You need D to absorb calcium. Just a heads up. Good luck! Be diligent and dedicate yourself to exercise and good nutrition.:sneaky: -

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I needed to vent. I should have questioned my dr. more. It seems that she wants me to begin seeing a nutritionist. Since I am going through my insurance, I guess this is the beginning of the process. They will cover 100% of the procedure, so I guess equates to jumping through more hoops. I just got my hopes up a bit too high after reading through the threads and seeing others progress and assuming my experienece will be just as smooth, fast, etc... Thanks again and wish me luck!

Whats up everyone my name is Chris. I've been on "the lap band journey" for about 9 months now. During the summer of last year I went to my doctor for a checkup and he asked if I ever thought about weight loss surgery. I told him I thought about it and have done a little research but haven't pursued anything yet. He recommended me to an associate of his who does WLS so after a couple of weeks of thinking about it I gave him a call. I spoke to his secretary and got an appointment for January since he wasn't accepting any new patients until after the New Year. The day of my consultation finally came around after a long holiday season. I did the basic physical(weight/height/etc.) and from that he determined I was a candidate for surgery. Fast forward to today, I'm now done with the Upper GI series, liver/gall bladder ultrasound, stress test/EKG, nutritionist, and psych eval. My last step is to see my surgeon again next week and hopefully submit everything to insurance. If all goes well I will get my date for surgery. Wish me luck.

Hi Everyone: Did anyone use the low carb slimfast plan for thier pre/post diet? I have been trying and they are not bad but it only comes in vanilla and chocolate. I bought the strawberry but it is not to high in Protein. I like the premade drinks because I don't have to make them. Thanks for any advice. Debbie

Skipping Meals / Drinking & Eating
attitudefree replied to PurricanChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no fluids 30 min before or 30 min after food- for the same reasons you listed above- mainly it pushes food out of your stomach too fast -
WOW, I guess I am the only Female in the world that doesn't have the craving for chocolate! I like white chocolate but I eat it maybe 2 times per year? Maybe? I tend to want oatmeal Cookies, but it is funny,, i just want a couple bites! lol I know that I am a satiety eater, so i don't have very few cravings unless I am starving! This began post BANDING, I crave hot creamy foods,,, like gooey cheese. I do discover I am un able to eat as fast as my stomach wants but only to find that I eat less when I starve. So, am I wondering do you know of any other Female Bandsters that don't eat chocolate?
