    6/25/12 Sleevers?

Yessss. I just got over that 3 week stall. I knew it was normal so I just kept doing what I had been doing. Its comin off again now.
  2. Your bodies need more calories to burn fat, and work properly. It's just how it works, and the dreaded 3 week stalls happens to probably 98% of sleevesters. If you are still on shakes/protein supplements, drink an extra shake. Try adding 100-200 calories a day through a Protein snack/meal for 2-3 days, then get back to 600 calories for a day. Our bodies have been through a traumatic event. We went from consuming 3000 calories a day to a mere 450-500 calories. Least to say, it's not happy about it, and isn't going to let itself starve. It's going to hold onto everything you're giving it. Shake things up, try to not stress, some people put away their scales because it's too stressful. Honestly, when in your life have you ever lost 34lbs in 6 weeks? How amazing is that really? How on God's green Earth could that be a failure? I think that is quite amazing to be honest. I know it would have taken me a solid 4 months of hard core dieting and excessive working out to drop 34 pounds pre-op. Relax, and look at the big picture, we didn't get fat overnight, we can't expect to get skinny overnight.

    3 weeks post op

the dreaded 3 week stall Hit me too. I didn't change a thing and the scale started moving down after 6 days
  4. I have been having some nausea lately, but I am still trying out new foods. I hit the dreaded 3-week stall and thought a couple if times about throwing the scale through a window. But, the stall is over now and including my preop diet, I'm down 40 pounds!!! I have had a recent flare up of my kidney stones, but besides that I haven't felt this good in a long time. My back doesn't hurt, my knees and ankles don't crack and grind any more. I can't believe it has already been 1 month!!! I was so excited to break 300 and now I'm melting away day by day!!!!
  5. @@katie09/21/2016 I've seen hundreds of posts from people (including me) who have eaten all their Protein, taken Biotin, Zinc, Omega 3, stood on their heads and did a rain dance, and NONE of it prevented hair loss. So a surgeon patting someone on the head and telling them to just eat their protein and take their Vitamins and they won't lose any hair IS FULL OF CRAP. Believe it or not, they don't know everything. Most of the time they know NOTHING about what happens to us after they operate. I mean, just the fact that none of them even mention the 3 week stall tells me that. If they spent the hours and hours on these forums like a lot of us do here, they might actually learn a thing or two, lol.

Weight stalled third week post op

3 week stall is super common. Google it.

    Low calorie protein powder

Well, I checked ExtraFoods (superstore) and Shoppers for that Beneprotein... but nothing. So I doubt we have it here (yet). I did see that Kiwi-strawberry stuff at ExtraFoods, but it was like $30 or 40! I was tempted though! I'm holding out for clear, tasteless stuff. Maybe I'll break down and order some from the states. I think I saw somewhere that sells samples.... hopefully I can try it out (isopure) before I buy. Buffie, I'm doing pretty good. I'm finally losing again, after a stupid 3 week stall. I am feeling super duper, and kinda like I could do with another fill, but I'll hold out as long as I can!

    Arkansas Roll Call...

I was 4 weeks yesterday. I got sick last week with a uti and ran high fevers... I don't know if it's coincidence or what, but I've lost 4 pounds since then... Maybe it was just the break of a 3 week stall

Post op day 3 and struggling

In my packet of info from the hospital it actually says "you may feel you are on an emotional Rollercoaster" It will get better, right now....don't look any farther then today. One day at a time. If you actually feel hungry it may be acid in the stomach, or head hunger. We go from eating whatever whenever to not eating at all. It's really hard, but let me tell you....it's worth it. You are going to be amazed at how good your going to feel. It was my 3rd week out when I noticed I felt pretty darn good. Pain subsided, started a little excercise. Then I hit the dreaded 3 week stall and got really down on myself. With the words of others I realised this was just time my body needed to play catch up. I'm 20 weeks out and down 80pounds. I feel like a new person, and soon you will too. Just get through one day at a time (it's all that wacky stuff going on inside our bodies that makes up weepy)

    So what does everyone eat?

I'm almost 6 weeks out and I'm getting burnt out on yogurt and protein shakes too. They were my main source of protein for 4 weeks and I lost 50lbs. Now that I can eat real food I haven't lost a single lb in 2 weeks. I've heard about the 3 week stall. I hope I'll start back soon. I think I've got to lay off fruit and oj. I buy the trop 50 oj it's less sugar less fat but I love it. I want a salad so bad but I haven't tried raw veggies yet. Kinda afraid to try. Spike in weight

I was and am a daily weigher. It keeps me accountable and connected to my data (food log, measurements, activity level, water intake, etc. ) To each his/her own. Do what makes you tick. Weight fluctuates daily. Impossible to determine without knowing more about your food log. Maybe you ate something salty yesterday like broth or V-8? Maybe you drank something that spiked your insulin and that prompted a refuel of your glycogen stores (2-4lbs btw). Some people have dramatic insulin spikes when drinking some brands of protein drinks. I know I did. I do better with a combo of concentrate and isolate rather than the isopure clear (pure isolate) that made me gain 9 lbs of fluid! Also, maybe you slept poorly the last couple of nites? You're about to get to the 3 week stall. It's normal. Relax into it.

    4 Months Post Op Pics

Great job...What Did u eat or What are u eating? You guys are awesome and such an encouragement!!! I just took these pics after being in a 3 week stall and was feeling pretty discouraged, so you all are a huge pick-me-up! Thankfully the scale started moving again and I entered ONERDERLAND today. Woohooo!!!! Anyway, to answer your questions...... I use myfitnesspal.com to track EVERY SINGLE THING I eat or drink. It helps me learn what works and what doesn't. I keep it simple really. I stick to my Protein goals (65-75g per day), Water goals (at least 8 8-oz glasses), and keep my carbs 30 or under, and low sugars/fats. As far as exercise, I really am only doing cardio for the time. I'm training for a 5K in April, so that has been my focus.

started soft food gained 2 pounds

It could be that your body is hanging on to the food, but you're also in the right time window to hit the dreaded 3 week stall so buckle up, keep doing what ou are doing, and join the hordes of us suffering through the same thing! Sucks doesn't it? Good news is, it's temporary.
  14. So I was sleeved on February 20th an all has been well. I did have a small stall (4-5 days long) around the 2-3 week mark. Now I am almost 2 and a half months out an my weight loss has slowed a lot with two decent week long stalls in the past 3 weeks. I lost 2 lbs between them but it is back now. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? I follow my diet to the T. I do struggle some days to get my protein in just because I can't eat that much. When I do manage to hit my target I seem to just end up gaining an losing the same pound. Just wondering if this is normal? I did start back to shakes today to try and break the stall since some have reported that helped. Not the full liquid diet but mostly . Anything else I can do to get past this?

    Am i done losing weight?

My vote is it's a stall. Mathematically, it just takes more than 1100 calories to support your current weight, even given the metabolic slowdown your weight loss has caused. I just came off a 3 week stall, so I totally feel your pain! If your body is accustomed to your cardio routine, you might consider adding wrist or ankle weights, or adding variety to your workout in some other way. But my gut says the scales going to start cooperating soon regardless! Congrats on your amazing success!

    Stand Still & No Loss

Everyone is different with weight loss. I learned early not to compare myself to others. There are lots of factors. The pre op diet, amount of weight they have to lose, when their foods change. I went into a 3 week stall when I was allowed to actually eat...(I was a liquids for 5 weeks. One week clear, 4 weeks full). I'm 10 weeks out Thursday and down 42 pounds. Yes there are some who are down 60 plus, but this is my journey. I'm enjoying it in my own way. Down from a 22 to a loose 16... So happy. Enjoy it. You learn a lot about yourself

    Valentine's Day Challenge 2013

Well, I am in a 3 + week stall, so not sure if I'm going to lose the 12 lbs I thought I would when I first started this post. I thought I'd get to 173 by Valentine's Day from 185. BUT, so far only 2 of those lbs came off!! GOTTA LOVE stalls LOL!! Keep on keeping on for everyone though, cause either way, WE are amazing!!
  18. You're doing just fine. Some people don't feel "true" restriction until they start solid foods. Liquids and mushies can slide right through the sleeve. Wait until you eat your first egg or meat. You'll feel it. The stall is utterly and completely normal and happens to 98% of us 2-6 weeks post op. It actually has a name...."The Dreaded 3 Week Stall". It mostly happens around week 3. Try not to stress and concentrate on protein and fluids. Stay off the scale for a month. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you get back on.
  19. Ok, question for all you preops and maybe newly sleeved folks....Have ANY of your surgeons or nuts explained to you that you will gain a bunch of weight while you are in the hospital for your surgery? In general, this is from the IV fluids they give you and from all the inflammation and swelling caused by the surgery itself. And have any of you been told that you will likely have a stall at about 3 weeks postop? Did they explain stalls to you at all? The reason I ask is because over half the posts from newbies are about these two subjects. (Those and the ones asking if it's OK that they just ate a cookie or a slice of pizza 2 weeks postop cause their mean family doesn't support them by keeping these things out of the house) Everyone that spends more than an hour on any WLS forum knows about these things. I just don't understand why surgeons aren't preparing their patients for the normal post surgical things that tend to send so many into such a panic. Just curious if anyone is actually being given any helpful instructions prior to WLS, or are you just left to fend for yourself on the Internet?
  20. What really counts is your measurements in my opinion, I bet they’re moving. Don’t worry about it, it’ll drop and remember you’re fresh out of surgery, your body is healing too. Classic 3 week stall....don’t stress.
  21. I was sleeved 10/22 and down 33 lbs as of today! I've hit the 3 week stall ugh

    Pre-surgery NSV

Thank you Autumn. I am quite proud of myself. Congratulations on your acceptance into your Vet Program. hey you don't have to lose much to have a NSV!!! You will be amazed. Couple of things you should do before your surgery, 1) take BEFORE photos so you can compare 2) take your measurements - so that when you hit the 3 week stall, you can check your measurements and see there are things going on and you don't get as frustrated. Sheila
  23. Does anyone know why there is a 3 week stall? Medically or otherwise? I got sleeved right after you, May 4th, and I'm also in a stall. I have gained and lost the same pound for the last week. I keep reading about the dreaded 3 week stall and am assuming that's what I'm in..... but like you I am so discouraged. I had to do the pre-op diet for 10 days and lost 10 pounds on the pre-op diet, and was happy with that. I had my surgery and when I got home (a whole week later) I hadn't lost anything, and I was very discouraged but chalked it up to fluids and swelling. After I got home I started losing quickly and the weight flew off for a week. Then it was like I hit a brick wall and haven't lost since. I've been walking and started gently swimming 4 days ago. I know I'm not as active as I was pre-op, but still have pain on my left side so taking it easy. I was able to start mushies today. I needed to lose 87 pounds and have lost 24 so I have 63 to go. Hang in there..... you're not in your stall alone...... looks like a few of us are there with you.

    Plateau

Jodie, I wish I could help but I am also in the midst of a plateau. I expected it to happen when I went from full liquids to mushies. I've lost 23 pounds since my surgery, almost 4 weeks ago. I lost 20 pounds quickly but have really struggled with these last 3 pounds. I've gained a pound or two back, then lost it, then found it, then lost it again. Jeez, it's annoying! I'm hoping it's just the usual 3 week stall that so many people experience. I have increased my exercise level and I am making sure that I'm getting my protein in first, then any carbs. Unfortunately, at this stage I can't eat fruits or too many vegetables yet, although I did have a tiny bit of lettuce today. I think your body is just in shock and is trying to hang on to every calorie it can find. My body usually holds on to calories for about 4-5 days and then I lose weight for 2 days then back to holding on. I'm sure I have messed my metabolism up from all the dieting and losing and gaining weight over the past 20 years. Maybe it's time to try a different activity - like bike riding or yoga, that might jolt your body into letting go of some weight! Good luck!
