I'm almost 7 months out & really haven't purchased that many items of clothing..(89 pounds lost). I had to buy a pair of black pants for a funeral & went to a store. I automatically went to the plus-size side. The saleswoman immediately came over & asked me "why are you in this section when you're so skinny. Get to the other side" - I went gladly!!!! Down 5 pant sizes....

I went to my primary care doctor yesterday because I have recently noticed that my resting heart rate is really low. I wasn't concerned until my blood pressure was running higher then normal on Monday. Well first the physician assistant came into the room and said it's the incredible shrinking woman, let's get you weighed. The my doc said that before surgery my heart rate was 70 and that it was lower now because of the exercise, particularly the running. I countered but that's the resting heart rate of an athlete, at which point she gently reminded me that I am running 9 miles at a clip and am an athlete!!! I have noticed that my weight is dropping quicker than my brain is able to comprehend and catch up. I still see myself as the big girl who needs to shop in Lane Bryant and def not as an athlete.

kmed21 never did a scrapbood but....... you can do anything your "big" heart desires the skys the limit you could keep track of your approval letter ( that you posted on line earlier ) pictures of yourself through the months aka before and after you could print off good suggestions/posts from the board on food, carb et al that you see from the VSG board important dates - like your 1 month, 3 month , 6 month et al surgiversary you might write a post on the board signifying any of your many future successes then print and put in the scrapbook whatever your pretty self wants after all, its your life maybe also start a blog recording all your experiences good or bad your successes (NSV's) good luck kathy

Absolutely - your journey is going to be full of NSV's. I seriously suggest you make a NSV storybook - rather than a journal...take picks or write about when you had your NSV's about how that felt, how it compared to before...mention things it made you think of or emotions that it brought to the surface. This can be a very good reference and motivational tool later on.

NSV #1 - So I am at the dog park today walking with one of my male dog park friends. As we are walking, one moment we are talking away, the next moment I am on the ground!! I was knocked over from behind by a dog. Needless to say I was in shock and a little embarrassed, but here is the good part. My male friend offers me his had to help me up; the first thing running through my mind is OMG he is not going to be able to pull me up!! WELL pull me up he did, I actually felt "light" if you ladies know what I mean, he didn't have to grunt or bend over!! Thinking of this now it was an amazing moment, I haven't felt like a "light" woman in a very, very long time. NSV #2 - I was in the ladies clothes store purchasing some new clothes as I hardly have any left that fit me right. So at one point I was asking for a jacket on the wall that the saleslady had to take down for me. So she says to me," Well you must be a size 11 but may need a 13 for your broad shoulders". A SIZE 11!!!!!!!! OMG when have I ever been a size 11, well I can't really tell you how I felt: to be recognized as a "normal" size person and not an obese one. It is definitely one of the best weight loss moments of my life!!!!

What's an NSV?

I am a nurse and wear scrubs all the time. At work last night I was told to get some new dang clothes! They said I looked like I had on a droopy diaper bc my pants were so big! But they said it in a loving supportive way. Question, at what point did others buy new clothes? I hate to spend money now when I am only 1/4 of the way to my goal.

So, lately I've been bummed and stuck on a plateau around 50lbs loss, but today during my couch to 5k I ran and enjoyed it! Never thought I would jog for almost 20 minutes and be happy about it!

Riding my bike outdoors and my knees not hitting my stomach

So, just had a really positive NSV this evening when my hubby and I took our two kiddos to the carnival in town. I can ride all the rides without smushing my guts into them and feeling like the restraints would give at any time. I tell you it was really a good feeling to just hop up on the ride, pull the harness down and go! I didn't feel like people were starring at me anymore! Awesome NSV!!! Sent from my iPhone using VST

Congratulations! That's definitely a NSV for both you and your husband. A longer healthier life! That's awesome. Thanks for sharing!

Just When You Thought Everything Was Cool...
moofish posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm almost a year and a half out from surgery and I've almost reached goal weight- have completely changed my lifestyle, and I'm pretty proud of my progress. I went from a size 22 pair of jeans to a size 8 (I'm 5'9"). I walk close to 4 mi./day. People that I knew from before will walk right past me in the grocery store without recognizing me. Talk about a NSV... Then, a couple of weeks ago, I fell and broke my jaw! Ugh! It was competely wired shut for 2 weeks. Hello liquid diet again! Fortunately I had previous experience with that, so I knew to make home made chicken and beef stock, Protein drinks, and I ordered powdered supplements from Celebrate. I knew that RNY peeps are not really supposed to use straws, but, what choice did I have? I lost an 10 additional pounds, which I didn't really need to lose... Now, they have replaced some of the wires with rubber bands, so I can barely bit a baby spoon between my jaws. So, on to the puree stage! Can anyone say deja vu? Again, I knew just what to make/buy for this stage of my recovery. Next week, I move on to mushies. Needless to say, I can't wait until the final stage of this, but it will be a while before I eat anything crispy or chewy again. Then I will buy a 3 oz. portion of filet mignon, season it, sear it in a pan, and rip it apart with my fingers and teeth (I adore meat lol). So, I had a little set back but, ironically enough, my RNY experience has helped me to successfully and HEALTHFULLY navigate this episode. -
Great NSV. Sweet dreams.

Congratulations! Fantastic NSV.

Jimmy, Congratulations!!! You're already seeing results, which is so wonderful!! Don't give in to the urge for something carbonated. Do check with your doctor about an acid reducer and/or a nausea medicine. You'll be amazed at how much better you feel as soon as you start taking them. Are you allowed decaf tea or coffee right now? If so, maybe a cup of one would help with the idea that you need soda. I love that you're already looking for those NSV's! I'm gonna turn every one of the newbies into NSV ho's like me!

That is a wonderful nsv. When you move into the category where people see you as thin/skinny without ever knowing that you used to be heavy. Congratulations, gingerbug. You are doing wonderful . . . especially at a little over a year out. I agree exercise makes all the difference in the world, without it I would have exceeded my goal, I probably would have been 20 to 30 pounds away from goal.

Hey Tina, congrats lady!! You're doing great and no matter what the NSV is, I'm happy to hear of it. Woot!!
