How to intake more protein and cals

may not be a popular answer, but if you are looking for a high protein, high calorie, low density food, chicharron (aka pork rinds or cracklins) was my go to back in the day when i had very low stomach capacity and was trying to stop weight loss. worked like a charm. mind you they are also very high in fat (and depending which brand or how you make them, are also high in soduim) so keep that in mind.
  2. Most definitely! Finding my new style when I lost weight was very exciting. I used to wear a lot of architectural/structural clothing with volume, panels, angles darts & folds to give interesting shapes so more avant garde. Partly so people would look at the clothing not my large body. Became obvious pretty quickly that I didn’t have the body to support these designs (being short didn’t help either). I was drowning in the volume of fabric & being overwhelmed by the designs. I had so much fun going on shopping sprees to stores and boutiques to try on different styles just to explore and see what now suited & not always to buy. Now I tend to go for sleeker more fitted clothing much like your body con pink birthday dress. I like some volume but have to balance it with a fitted top or fitted bottom or in the cut or fall of fabric. Still like things with a difference in fabric or cut & generally don’t follow fads or trends so have a wardrobe of timeless, statement pieces. Some sadness though as some designers/labels I used to love wearing are too big now (in style &/or size) but am very happy to be able to wear designers I used to wear when was smaller in the past or coveted. (Yes, I have a clothing addiction and spend too much on clothing). PS - Your new pink hair is very flattering on your skin tone. Perfect colour choice. ❤️ And happy birthday!

I did it! Made it to Onederland

Congrats on your weight loss! Major WIN love it! I'm only 11 months postop and I went from my heaviest 313 to now my smallest I believe 179. (I don't own a scale 😮) I'm really metabolically well, no longer on any diabetes medications, which is a major win. I do not want to get bogged down with reaching the lowest weight. I'm in various bariatric groups and I noticed a reoccurring event, People are consumed with the lowest weight and they're also overconsumed with stalls in which stalls happen. In fact I believe I'm in a stall now. Get as low as you like just try not to become over consumed with that number lean into being metabolically well. From my analysis on various groups that number plays with a lot of people's mental health and some people seem to never be satisfied with their current loss. We can't live like that!

    Hypoxi

I'll be honest. I'm skeptical of this, but before we get into that, I think you may need to clarify something? You stated that you have: This would be highly unusual, since lipoedema is normally seen over the entirety of the legs, but is typically most pronounced in the buttocks & thigh area. Have you actually been diagnosed by a physician? If it's just your calves, it would be a lot more likely for this to actually be muscle, not fat. It's extremely common for formerly obese people to have larger than normal calf muscles. This is so because basically you've spent your life doing heavy calf exercises daily just by walking around with all that extra weight. If this is the issue, your options may be somewhat limited. Eventually, with targeted diet and exercise, your calves may shrink, but it won't happen quickly. Another fairly common cause would be another type of edema such as lymphedema. Edema is common in obese people, but lymphedema specifically often goes undiagnosed. Unfortunately for some people, losing weight may not fix the problem. Bottom line, if you have not already done so, I would strongly encourage you to talk with a doctor about your concerns so you can get an accurate diagnosis. Now for my thoughts on hypoxi and the reasons I'm concerned: The basic principle here goes against our current understanding of how fat loss works. The only study linked on their website doesn't actually show ANY increase in fat loss. All it shows is a reduction in size of the "treated" area. This is a HUGE red flag. If the subjects didn't lose additional weight, even in the main study they link on the site, then what caused the size reductions? The most plausible answer is that this was simply fluid loss and thus extremely temporary. The study linked does not appear to have ever been published in a peer reviewed journal of any kind. This is another huge red flag. The fact that no one else has made similar devices seems odd? If the science were sound and the results reasonable, then copycats should be everywhere. Quality medical devices simply don't exist in a vacuum. It's also a bit sketchy to me that these devices can only be found in their "studios" and nowhere else. They seem to want to tightly control things, which seems odd if this really works as well as they claim? Why not sell them to health clubs, rehab facilities, etc? Best of luck whatever you decide.

    Long term issues

I had the Sadie and my research on it from my doctor says that the Sadie is only 25% more mall absorptive than the bypass. Whereas the traditional Didal switch could be up to 80%. I don’t use Bariatric vitamins. I take the same vitamins and supplements. I have always taken, but I raised the amount by 50% to cover the 25% loss and my blood work is just fine.

    So Scared Now, Please HELP!

Hi Bugg. What you are feeling is totally normal. I had similar or kind of similar fears. I was sleeved in 2017. Best decision ever. I lost 40kgs and have maintained with variations of about 5kgs on and off. I had no health complications and feel so healthy. I still drink water in 2-3 swallows only then rest. It is not a big deal and I am used to it now. With the total weight loss, most people lose the most weight in the initial aftermath and you will likely gain some of it back. I maximized the most weight loss I could experience in the initial phase. Last but not least, remember you don’t anyone an explanation about your private health information. People don’t go around explaining their blood pressure, asthma, yeast infection treatments etc. That applies to your bariatric treatment. You share what you fell like sharing with whoever you want to share with. It’s your private health information. Good luck with your treatment.

    January 2025 Surgery Buddies!

Yay! Happy to hear it went well for you and that you are feeling pretty good post-op. Congrats on the weight loss and the progress you've made so far! 🤗
  9. Thank you for your truths! It just proves that despite what non weight loss surgery people think its not the "easy way" out. It IS work and will continue to be so with constant diligence for our lifetimes! You've got this, I love reading your posts and get inspiration from them. Keep up the good work.
  10. My boyfriend and I broke up over the weekend, and I just wanted to reach out to my bari-family for support 😓 I remember reading loads about how after surgery lots of people found that their relationships broke down for one reason or another, and the statistics around this being quite shocking. Whilst I don't contribute my break-up to my surgery/weight loss, I am struggling at the moment with the emotional side of things following it all. Rather than emotional eating, I am finding that I have 0 appetite at all, I just don't want to eat, I don't want to do my exercise, ugh. But I am also scared of just doing nothing. I don't know guys, I am rambling, but either way , just wanted to reach out to see how others have dealt with this in their own lives. ❤️

    Revison Surgery

For me it has been a life changer. I had the sleeve and lost weight but not as much as I had hoped and then I gained it right back plus some. Never did have the metabolic changes or the changes that made it a little easier to eat healthy so when I got done with my SADI revision I know right away that it was going to be different this time. I mean I still want pizza and burgers but I don’t hate chicken and fish now either so it makes it a little easier to make the healthy choice most of the time. I also exercise a lot and I think that has made all the difference in my commitment to my new lifestyle as well as My mood and overall health. Obviously I can’t say I know if it would have been better or worse with the Bypass but statistically as a revision the SADi does provide more loss and a more durable loss. Of course it is never so not as much long term research has been done and bypass is the tried and true gold standard but as a revision the loss is statistically less than as a virgin surgery. I think for me it was a perfect fit but you will want to keep in mind that you need to understand your surgery well enough to explain it or call your surgeon and ask them to when it is appropriate. Most of my doctors have never heard of it and when I was about to get an endoscopy/ colonoscopy done and the dr hadn’t heard of it I called my surgeon to see if that was okay and he called to explain my anatomy to them. Another thing to consider is whether you surgeon is resleeving your stomach. Mine did not. He said the difference in weight loss was not significant amount to take the risks that come with reducing the pouch. Something to do a bit of research on to decide if it’s worth it to you. If you have any specific questions about my experience let me know.

    My scale lied to me

Aaah scales. They have the power to make or ruin your day just by standing on them. Did you weigh more at your doctor’s than at home initially? I weigh differently at my GP, my follow up doctor, the hospital & at home. So they keep their records and I keep my mine. The actually weight loss is the same just the numbers are different on the scale. Check your batteries. How old are your scales? As my old scales were failing my weight was erratic until they finally read I weighed like 100kgs more than I was. They went in the bin & I bought new ones that day. Remember you have lost 43lbs in 4 months so averaging 10lbs a month. That’s fantastic.

Always feel free to reach out! Well done on your loss so far!
  15. I feel down right now too. I took stock and realized it is mid winter. I do this every winter. I have a nice hair appointment set up, a vacation planned, and a new angle for advancement at work. My back up plan is to work a second job that’s completely unrelated to my current one, and see where that goes. I work out first thing in the mornings. The trigger is to put headphones on and I feel weird if I DON’T exercise. I hope this helps, cause it’s all over the place. You are not your job, but I remembered reading a post from you about nursing being your bucket list dream. So, nursing can go so many different directions. Keep your mind open to possibilities you haven’t expected?

    Weight Stall at 10 months

Hey! Stalls are really common, and I think around this point in the post-op journey it does seem to hit! My weight loss has stopped at the moment, but my surgeon did say to me that a stall is only really considered a stall when you have been stuck at the same weight for around 6-8 weeks! just keep doing what you are supposed to be doing, eating well, keeping hydrated and getting some form of exercise in and hopefully it'll break soon ❤️

possible to stall after 9 day?

Unfortunately weight loss isn’t consistent. You won’t get a lovely perfectly straight line on a graph. It zig & zags. More one week, less the next. None one week and a gain the next. We also have natural fluctuations in our weight which are all normal and when we are weighing ourselves every day they suddenly are very obvious. There are many reasons why we have these fluctuations and I swear sometimes it’s just your body messing with you. As long as your weight loss trend (over weeks and months) is in a downward direction you’re doing well. Add some soluble fibre to your soup or shake each day to help with the constipation. I got into a routine too. No poop for three days I took a stool softener. Remember too at first you’re not consuming much so you don’t have much for your body to excrete from so don’t expect to go every day. Despite some hiccups (like the power outage and loss of food) things seem to be going pretty smoothly for you. Yay!

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

At some point we all plateau in our weight loss. The thing to do is hit the protein shakes more than you used to. Pretend it’s the earlier stage, where you were limited to protein shakes and almost no carbs. I’ve had to do that myself when I gain weight or plateau. It’s not what we want, it’s what we need to do.
  19. I'm hoping to get a revision to a bypass for gerd and sleep apnea if that is a possible. I called tricare and the lady said that they only cover 1 weight loss surgery in the lifetime or the person. Any experience with getting approved with tricare select?

    Serious Plateaus After Bypass Surgery

Thank you for your insight. Yes my surgeon knows about me working out two hours a day and he is happy with my progress. He is only concerned that I am not consuming more food. I don't feel like eating much. I just focus on protein. I will try not to worry about weight loss. Thank you again
  21. I tried the green tea thing back in the 90’s. It made me regular. That was it. If you like the taste try using it to have less coffee because there’s less caffeine. I love the flavors Celestial Seasonings had, but my favorite is a minty green tea. Sometimes I use to use it after a meal to signal to my brain that eating done. It was the minty taste like toothpaste that was the signal. It’s an old weight watcher’s trick, use a minty thing like gum, tea, toothpaste to learn to stop. It hurts to drink after eating now so not a good choice. Trader Joe’s had some nice green tea choices too.I like a bag in my water bottle to add flavor. It doesn’t cause weight loss. It could make you drink more water.

    Hypoxi

Probably a good idea to postpone your appointment. I'm skeptical as well based on the study on the web site. I would focus on your personal health and wellness and less on the physical look of your body. Your body will end up being what it is when you finally meet your goal, which you have met from your scale. Body sculpting or plastic surgery is probably the next thing you should look into but it is not necessary for a healthy and well body. Remember that it takes more than just physical beauty or thinness, it also takes a mental health well being too, so focus on your mind and realize how much you have lost, if you are healthy now and can move like never before. Obesity is a disease that never goes away with the loss of weight until you deal with the loss in your mind, and look in the mirror and see someone who is healthy. This is just my personal point of view, but then again I don't care what others think about my body, it is my mind and quick wit that people enjoy about me. I didn't lose me, I only lost weight and don't care that I have some sagging skin or dimples here and there. My beauty is on the inside, right? You might also have a body image issue and might need to talk to someone about it. Having Lymph edema is different than lipo edema, one has compression to assist with the circulation of the body, the other is fat fat cells. You are saying you have fat fat cells, but you have compression devices, which is confusing. Which do you have? Problems with your lymph in your lower legs, or fat cells that have swelling?
  23. I opted for surgery over the meds for a number of reasons including insurance coverage, med interactions and life long use of the GLP-1 meds. I did manage to lose quite a bit on my own when I woke up to the trash I was eating. A very simple tool helped me here. A phone app. It doesn't matter what you use (there are many to choose from) but actually logging everything you eat and drink even over just a week can be very eye opening. Read label too. Portions in restaurants are WAY too big. When I started keeping track and cutting back to actually serving sizes instead of overeating it helped a lot. If you start with that it will give you an opportunity to continue with researching the weight loss drugs while being aware of what you are actually eating. It is a pain to weigh and measure portions, but it makes a HUGE difference. Best of luck with your health journey!

    5 Month Anniversary

Thank you! Yes, it's been a rough month but I'm definitely doing much better than 6 months ago! I still feel better physically than I did before the weight loss. I've always been overweight too. I still feel really happy that I'm a size 16 (UK) when I haven't been since I was 16 years old! Just got to keep looking at my progress overall!

    Anyone else

It sounds like your scalp might be reacting to the rapid hair growth, which can sometimes cause itchiness due to increased oil production or sensitivity. Dandruff could be a sign of dryness, buildup, or even a mild fungal imbalance, which might explain the itching too. An anti-itch shampoo could definitely help, especially if it has ingredients like tea tree oil, salicylic acid, or zinc pyrithione, which are great for calming irritation and addressing dandruff. You might also want to try moisturizing your scalp with a light oil (like argan or jojoba oil) to balance dryness. If the problem persists or worsens, it could be worth checking with a dermatologist to rule out any underlying scalp conditions. But hey, congrats on the extreme growth—that’s a nice silver lining!
